Young Zebward: First Swimming Lesson
Tumblr media
A little idea that I had regarding Edward and Zebedee's early years, playing on my headcanon that most engines are unable to swim. By contrast, young tugs are taught to swim as babies.
This picture is set around the first or second year of their marriage, with Susannah being a baby and already starting her swimming lessons. Not wanting to be the only member of the family unable to swim, Edward asked Zebedee to teach her, too.
The first lesson was a nervous one. Despite the life jacket over her Furness red swimsuit and being in relatively shallow water, Edward was terrified by the unfamiliar scenario of being in water that came up to the waist and needed constant reassurance.
This was just a quick sketch, but I tried to make them both look younger, given they're both twenty at the absolute oldest here. Edward's forearm is far too skinny though 🫤

Oh boy oh boy they're finally done, and just in time for the 78th anniversary too!
Pride of the Furness Railway, the K2 Larger Seagulls will get you where you need to go come hell or high water. Why not steam down to Barrow, or take a relaxing summer trip up through the hills to Windermere?
Featuring Edward in his original livery alongside the brothers he would leave behind.

It's Easter, so I thought it'd be perfect to share Edward in both his red liverly and a more feral version of his animal form.

Traintober: Day 14 "Young Iron"
"I surprised everyone."
Tumblr media
[In-Furness Area, United Kingdom, Pre-Great War]
There wasn't really a feeling like it, coasting down the hill through the picturesque landscape that is. He soared along the line, coaches in tow, careful as to avoid a bumpy ride. His driver eased him off, assuring him that there was plenty of time, that he'd put himself ahead of schedule enough as it is. 35, was not satisfied however.
He was on top of his game, and there was no telling how many opportunities he'd get to show off his paces. To exemplify what Furness Railway's 35 could accomplish.
'35', a true example of the Edwardian era's innovations in the railway industry.
-
Sprites and Background by PrincessMuffins, CJ The Creator, etc. [I have only reskinned some stuff]. Not quite sure who made the meadow.
Happy Traintober!
Sorry for the absence, college is a lot of work. Had to take a rest for a day. Gonna get back on schedule soon.

Realising I’ve met 66% (or 50% if you count the buried one) of surviving Furness Locos, only one I’ve not seen in person is 25.

Little Lady Edward
Tumblr media
A little concept for Edward as a child - whose early years as an adorable little hellchild and rebellious teenaged years helped shape her into the kind and wise mother engine we meet on Sodor
I chose an Edwardian coat design, given Edward's build date, and chose similar colours to the Furness Railway.
My headcanon for Edward's childhood and youth is that, while a sweet and kind child to most people, was prone to mischief and tricks to any "wrongdoers" that were careless enough to upset the little engine and his/her loved ones. An adventurous childhood and working knowledge of tricks and pranks was the perfect education for handling the spectrum of personalities on Sodor - including Edward's own twin hellraisers, Bill and Ben!

And here's a photo I took of the same engine a short while ago at East Lancs' Autumn Steam Gala. Preservation has been very kind to this little beast.
They converted her back to her as-built in 1863 appearance, hence why she once again has a tender, which you can't see.

NBA TRAIN FACT 1: According to Steamindex.com, The Furness Railway 115 (N1) Class 4-6-4T's were 13ft 6in high. I mention this because, upon checking with the most trust worthy source on the planet, Wikipedia. The Gresley A1 & A3 Pacific's were 13ft 1in high.
The Baltic's where taller than Gresley's thoroughbreds by 5 inches.
https://www.steamindex.com/locotype/furness.htm - Website link
If i am wrong on this or anyone has any other info on the FR Baltics. Please, correct me & tell me.
Also, not an interesting fact i know, but i thought it was cool.
@mean-scarlet-deceiver Your the Furness Railway expert around here, enlighten me lol

Note
Other things players FL will do for bragging rights: go through the arduous process of getting a veils-velvet scrap just to use it on a single segment of an ambition that the game explicitly states isn't worth it for a vanity status that has exactly 1 (one) use and it's Joining A Club
isn't veils-velvet one of the hardest T8s to get, too? the only non-discordance method is a nonsense amount of scraps, and the discordance method by itself is still... well. the discordance.
