It can take a lot of courage to take that first step with anxiety. If you're not comfortable going straight into a customer facing role you can ask about behind-the-scenes stuff, even if it's just doing some paperwork or cleaning the exhibits. It might be easier to start out of the way and get comfortable with the environment before working your way up to dealing with lots of people. Remember there's no such thing as a stupid question. No one starts off knowing everything about steam locos. They're complex bits of machinery and asking questions is the best way to learn. Once you have your foot in the door and if it's something undertaken at your Heritage Establishment of Choice, I highly recommend asking if you can watch a shunt.
If you enjoy trains and want to "give back" to rail while learning more about them (including getting more familiar and able to identify the different classes and how they work) why not volunteer at a heritage railway near you? Rail 200 is coming up in 2025, it's a great time to get involved.
Hi!! Awesome ask, pretty funny actually, I've grown up in a town with a really rich history in railways, and plan on doing some volunteer work at a local museum, it's an environment I'm very familiar with and not too far away ! They do education-based stuff for young school children, and offer school trips as well as having a cafe, and its a start to getting used to working around other people. Once I'm more comfortable in social environments, id love to look into doing more work and volunteering, and its definitely something I'll look into!! It's just the small steps to overcoming my social anxiety and general anxiety around work and stuff, yk? This is kinda a rough response, I'll probably edit stuff later

Diana Ross - If We Hold On Together 1988
"If We Hold On Together" is the theme song to the 1988 Don Bluth film The Land Before Time, and is performed by American singer Diana Ross. She was the lead singer of the vocal group The Supremes, who became Motown's most successful act during the 1960s and one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. They remain the best-charting female group in history, with a total of 12 number-one pop singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Played during the film's ending credits, "If We Hold On Together" was released on the film's soundtrack as well on Ross' nineteenth studio album, The Force Behind the Power (1991). It was also released as the soundtrack's only single on November 5, 1988. The song was written by legendary film composer James Horner and lyricist Will Jennings. It peaked at number 23 on the US adult contemporary chart, as well as giving Ross her biggest hit ever in Japan (number 1) and later reaching number 11 in the UK.
The Land Before Time was released on November 18, 1988 to generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $84.4 million. The plot features a young Apatosaurus named Littlefoot, who ends up alone after his mother is attacked and dies. Littlefoot, along with a small group of found companions, flees famine and upheaval to search for the Great Valley, an area spared from devastation, where the adult dinosaurs have moved on to. The movie traumatized so many of us as kids, how is this song so unknown on this poll. D: Watch it if you haven't already!
"If We Hold On Together" received a total of 41,2% yes votes. :'(

You'd like Freedom, Truth, and Justice, wouldn't you, Comrade Sergeant?' said Reg encouragingly.
'I'd like a hard-boiled egg,' said Vimes, shaking the match out.
There was some nervous laughter, but Reg looked offended.
'In the circumstances, Sergeant, I think we should set our sights a little higher--'
'Well, yes, we could,' said Vimes, coming down the steps. He glanced at the sheets of papers in front of Reg. The man cared. He really did. And he was serious. He really was. 'But...well, Reg, tomorrow the sun will come up again, and I'm pretty sure that whatever happens we won't have found Freedom, and there won't be a whole lot of Justice, and I'm damn sure we won't have found Truth. But it's just possible that I might get a hard-boiled egg. -Night Watch
