yes and no! I have a lot of "what ifs" ideas in my head, but I think there's only one I would ACTUALLY write out? But because I too love aus of aus, let me list a few of them uwu

What if Shen Yuan had never left Lady Jia? This is the idea I want to write at some point! Would still be BingYuan, with some intense gender fuckery going on <_<
Some others are;
What if Shen Yuan reincarnated as a girl? if you think SQQ is overprotective now, you have seen NOTHING. Binghe would be fighting for his goddamn life. SY would fight for her own dignity, because OBVIOUSLY she has to become a WIFE, but SQQ is weird as fuck about Sweet Girls Under His Protection and the only reason LBH isn't already dead is because SY is frantically wielding her "i'm your widdle baby girl!" powers at SQQ to shield him. There would be no roomie situation. RIP. But NYY would be hyped about having a sister! And SY wouldn't have any trauma from Zhao De, because MF would be like !!!!!!!!!!!! DONT BULLY A GIRL!!!!!!!! which means Zhao De sticks around and focuses his bullying on MF instead. Lovingly. If you guys haven't read "Toxic" by Prim the Amazing yet, well..............
What if Yue Qingyuan managed to take Shen Yuan? This would basically just be PIWD. SQQ would not take it nicely at all, seeing his Qi-ge taking in a mini-SJ and spoiling him rotten. SY would NOT be allowed on Qing Jing at all, but SY is also Binghe-obsessed and Binghe is in turn SY-obsessed. The only reason SQQ would not abuse SY out of pure jealousy and self-hatred is because SY isn't under his control. YQY would be an adoring fool but also SY would probably not feel 100% safe considering he knows that YQY always yields to SQQ in canon... On top of that, SQQ would most likely treat Binghe much like he did in PIWD. There are perhaps a FEW things that would, maybe, make him treat Binghe better out of pure spite but it would take many twists and turns for that. In the end, BingYuan in this would be Romeo and Juliet romance that would end in insane tragedy for all involved and CQM in flames. Unless Binghe manages to run off to Bai Zhan Peak. A big If.
What if Shen Yuan had met *** while at Lady Jia? Well SY would have brought *** with him to CQM instead! Or *** would have helped him escape and then years later............... hmm but that's a different arc.

The Nightmare of Zoldyck (Musical) was gay as fuck and here's why you should watch it.
Bingeing The Nightmare of Zoldyck reminds me just. Just how fucking gay it was??????? And this was made almost 11 years ago???? And it's just so insane and surreal to me?????? They could've added any sort of twist to the Zoldyck Arc and yet the twist they chose was 🌈🏳️‍🌈??? In all fairness, they did also add Hisoka so maybe that's just how it is lmao
Now you may think I'm joking or being delusional—but no I swear THEY MADE IT GAY AS FUCK OK. IT'S ACTUALLY AMAZING
First, we have the obvious; the adorable, blossoming friendship between Gon and Killua. The very reason this arc exists is because Gon refused to let Illumi's teachings corrupt Killua's self-esteem. It's so, so, so touching in the manga and both anime adaptations, but in the musical they just... The songs just made it come off more romantic?
I'm biased, I love the friends-to-lovers development these two undergo, but I swear, take the shipping goggles off and it's still has a subtle if not in-your-face obvious, romantic tone.
Why? First, the presentation. The Zoldycks are introduced by Milluki through song. They each get lines which are backed up by epic music and stage effects, come together for the iconic chant of, "Zoldyck," before ultimately gathering around and sitting down.
Kalluto, Kikyo, Illumi, Silva, Milluki, and Zeno have a family meeting while Killua's hung above them, representing where he is in the dungeon, and right off the bat, you get hit with "forbidden romance" vibes.

The family talks about what Killua did, what he said, while Killua sings about how he doesn't want to inherit his dad's position. HE ALSO SINGS THIS LINE WHICH IS SO?????

And he sings a little after Illumi visits him in the dungeon and, y'know, messes with his head even more. He writes a letter of sorts to Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio, telling them they should go to protect them from Illumi and he just sounds SO heartbroken...

Then we skip forward, this is after the gang has won Gotou's approval. Gon writes a letter, and it's so fucking sweet because it's basically him saying look. Look at Zebro, Gotou, Canary, these people who care for you, who love you. You're not alone, we understand your feelings, ok? AND THIS PANEL IN PARTICULAR IS SO RAPUNZEL SO ROMEO AND JULIET IDK

And that super serious discussion between Killua and Silva? He gushes about Gon a lot, and they really took some liberties with Silva because this man keeps grinning like he knows his son's got a crush.

And of course Gon's not gonna back down. Canary asks how their Young Master Killua was like, outside Kukuroo Mountain, and... just look.

I'm not gonna include every damn time they sing together but when they finally meet? They're so. so happy. I can't.
And there's this scene after the party (yes they have a goodbye party of sorts for Killua) where Killua thanks Gon for coming to get him and Gon says ofc we're friends and they play around and they're so happy together...

There's also this moment when it all goes to shit and THIS SONG SLAPS Gon metaphorically slaps Killua out of it too but just. Just listen to it, it made me cry
And since this happens right after the Hunter's Exam, Kurapika and Leorio are still a bit wary of Killua, so while Gon's ecstatic and unwavering about being Killua's friend, the other two sort of bond in the sidelines as well?
Take this shot of leopika dancing. It's short and sweet and they're so stupid but they're at least getting along!!!

I forgot they bickered a lot, especially during the Hunter's Exam, but now look at them. This isn't the gayest part though, because Leorio finds out there's a hot spring in the Zoldyck mansion... and... yeah... I'll let y'all watch this scene for yourselves but uh, stuff happens and I fucking screamed is all

And of course, I saved the murder husbands for last. While the gang have their fun, we would sometimes cut to black and these two would be shown, scheming in the dark and talking about their own plans.

Mind you, there is no fucking explanation as to why Hisoka's there. His narrative purpose is ofc to sow chaos and stir trouble, look out for Gon or whatever, but why is he here specifically in the Zoldyck Estate is never stated. BUT he does refer to it as a vacation. Twice.

Like sure this is just him being a little shit but COME ON. If Illumi really didn't want him there, he'd have chased Hisoka out, swatting him with a broom while at it. But no. They scheme in the dark and Illumi shows him around and Hisoka says it's a vacation. Wonder who could've invited him.......
This interaction also happens. And I will only be thinking about this for the foreseeable future.

HISOKA CHASES AFTER HIM OFFSCREEN IT'S KINDA CUTE AND ALSO RUINING MY LIFE????
Insane that the killugon heart-to-heart, leopika hot spring moment, and hisoillu bickering happen back to back to back. They're all paired off. The way they switch the audience's perspective actually really satisfying. Each couple gets their alone time and it's like seeing the different stages of a relationship. INSANE and HELLA GAY
And, of course, the heart of the cards—easily one of the most iconic lines Hisoka's said, which is, coincidentally, the point of conflict of the entire musical

I just. I love this musical so much. It used to be my comfort watch when I first got into HxH, and while I joke about how fucking gay it turned out to feel (I'm being serious about it though) I do think it's a great production.
The actors did amazing, the dance/fight sequences and the dialogue were so well done, and it just added so much depth to the Zoldycks, y'know? I do wish Alluka was here, but we all know why she's not... That would've been so fun though.

I get how the “secret relationship” stuff in reputation is going to appeal to queer people, because straight people outside of the spotlight don’t have to hide their relationships (unless you’re in a Romeo and Juliet situation I guess). But we know Taylor was dating Joe and we know exactly why she was hiding.
I get relating to a lot of the themes of the album as a queer person, but I don’t get why people need that interpretation to be the “correct” or “real” one. You can relate to the album even if Taylor wrote it about a man, your interpretation can be different from Taylor’s
This is exactly what I said dude. There is no such thing as a correct interpretation of art. There is what Taylor was thinking about (usually autobiographical although she does fantasize and make stuff up because again, she is not a dick powered jukebox). There is what you think about. Things we think about when listening to her songs can change over time (as I said, this applies to what Taylor thinks about them too because it is HER CREATIVE WORK). I guarantee you End Game is giving her a little thrill now that she’s with a professional athlete but she didn’t write it with him in mind.
An interpretation is just that - one way to read something. It’s not limited to sexuality btw like people read things differently all the time. I’ve shared this before: CLM is like the most romantic song I’ve ever heard FOR ME. My current situation actually fits that really perfectly. I played it for my bf a few months into us dating expecting him to love it and he found it depressing and tragic. He didn’t get the romance at all. He didn’t hate the song as like… a song lol like he thinks it’s pretty but he fails to see how it’s romantic. That same day - we were sharing like what our most romantic song is about the other person because it was early days and we were vom cute ew 🤢 - he chose Patience by Guns ‘N Roses and I had the same reaction. Like, cool song ngl but I don’t get how it’s like a grand statement on romance. Idk what the fuck Axl was thinking when he wrote Patience (I suspect very little because he would’ve been high as shit but ok) but for my bf that’s like the grandest statement on love and fits us and for me it’s a little confusing and tbh it sounds like they’ve broken up when he’s singing it??? And that’s his same point on CLM lol. So like yeah people interpret things differently guys. This is what I’ve been trying to say.
Saying “I pick up queer themes in Dress” is fair play. Saying “Taylor didn’t write Dress about Joe, she’s a big fat liar who lies, it’s about supermodel Karlie Kloss- no wait it’s about supermodel Lily Donaldson because there’s a picture of them at a party in a bathtub with like 50 other people and she mentions that public moment in her song and ergo this song is about Lily/Karlie/the homophobic violinist from her first band and who cares what it means to me because I never go outside but Taylor is gay and this is the proof” is just unhinged.
Also there are a host of other reasons to want to be secretive in mf relationships other than Romeo and Juliet or super famous vibes just btw. Hookups within friend groups or intermixed friend groups often have to be kept on the DL. Hookups at work - unless it’s proven to be serious - should be kept on the DL. Dating while in the midst of a divorce or serious longterm breakup has to be kept on the DL. If you’ve got kids, dating has to be kept on the DL unless you’re a messy bitch who lives for drama or until you know it’s serious. Reconnecting with exes has to mostly be kept on the DL until you know it’s serious. I can go on. Being gay or being in a truly forbidden situation aren’t the only two valid reasons to want to know places you won’t be found.
Any of those situations could have you relating to Dress. The best friend stuff makes it sound a bit gay to me (someone who has hooked up with a number of her female friends) but that’s not the only interpretation nor is it factual. It’s also not invalid.
My last thought is like… as fun as muse analysis is, I like Taylor Swift because she articulates thoughts about MY LIFE better than I can. I don’t imagine Taylor and Joe or Taylor and Jake or Taylor and Harry or Hiddleswift or whatever when I listen to my favorite songs. I imagine my own life. That’s what I love about her. It feels like she’s articulating feelings and experiences I’ve felt better than I ever could yk?

Authors note: found this in my drafts and started crying reading it 😭 it’s actually so beautiful. It’s the scene in the leo DiCaprio version of Romeo and Juliet when they first see each other. I didn’t finish but after reading it again I just had to post what I have. Is this a comeback ? Abso-fucking-lutely it is get ready for content mf’s. Next up #lasey chapter 5.
Summary: Leonardo sees an angel.
Leonardo walked into the empty bathroom, the first thing he noticed was the giant fish tank that made up almost the entire wall. He watched the small blue fish wiggle back and forth in their habitat. Leonardo was impressed with the glow it emitted, a peaceful quiet place compared to the loud party thumping outside the doors. His eyes were drawn to the coral, beautiful pops of color with interesting textures. He bent over, examining the nooks and crannies of their favorite hiding spots. Suddenly he saw an eye, peering back at him and he jumped. The figure from behind the glass jumped backwards as well. It was a girl, with piercing eyes. Her heart sped up at the sight of him. He could feel the room spinning around them and suddenly all he could see was her smile. His stunning blue eyes tore through the water in between them and he smiled at her, she smiled back and waved. Leo rushed forwards and bumped his snout against the glass but kept on smiling. She giggled. She was dressed as an angel, Leo could see the glow around her and his eyes lit up, was she an angel? She wasn’t sure what he was dressed as. A turtle maybe? She blushed under his intense focus, breaking eye contact to relieve the tension. She couldn’t help but look at him again, she was drawn to him. What was he? Who was he? She pressed her palms against the glass as if she could touch him with enough will power. Leo marveled at her beauty, his eyes following the features of her face like a map to his destiny. An older women burst through the door and rushed into the bathroom behind the glowing angel on the other side,
“[Y/N], your mother is calling for you,” she grinned at Leo before being dragged out of the bathroom back to the Halloween party. Leo’s eyes followed her out the door and he stood against the glass in a haze before realizing he could chase after her. [Y/N] was pulled towards a man she had never met. He was average looking and seemed nice enough. He was dressed as an astronaut.
“[y/n] this is Paul,” her mother smiled before running off and leaving them to dance.
“May i have this dance?” He asked politely. She smiled and took his arm, before letting him lead her. Leo ran out into the hallway from the bathroom and around a pillar at the top of the staircase, spotting her as she stepped on the dance floor. He watched her sway back and forth,but she couldn’t focus.her attention was on the man at the top of the stair case. Paul wrapped his arm around her, trying to keep her attention and she couldn’t help but laugh mockingly.
“Did my heart not love til now?” Leo gasped to himself. He could feel his heart trying to jump out of his chest, reaching for her, aching for her. “Forswear it sight,” he whispered. “For I never saw true beauty til this night.” [Y/N] twirled to the soft piano music before her dancing partner leaned down and kissed her hands. She caught Leo’s eye and he smirked at her as if to tease her. She only blushed in return, trying to be polite to the man dancing with her but she didn’t care. She wanted to be dancing with the stranger from the bathroom. The music stopped and everyone applauded for the band, and she leaned against a pillar. Leo made his way around the crowd swiftly and leaned against the same pillar.
“Really? That guy?” He smiled, but didn’t turn to look at her. Leo applauded with the crowd. She giggled,
“is it really any of your business?” The thump in her chest was getting louder and the lump in her throat getting bigger. They spoke without looking at each other “You know we can skip the dancing and go straight for the kissing,” Leonardo suggested. He reached around the pillar and grabbed her hand, pulling her towards him. She landed against his chest,
“Our hands could touch, and it would be like our hands are kissing,” she picked up his palm in hers. He grinned at the electricity that ran under his fingers against hers,
“Our hands touching is just like our lips touching,” he looked down at her, “so really we could just do both.” He trailed off, leaning in to kiss her and for a moment she let herself before ducking around and behind him.
“You know, my grandmother says lips are meant for praying,” she walked away from him, but Leo ran after her.
“You can use both your hands and lips to pray,” he tugged at her wrist. “When our lips press against each other,” they stopped at the elevator door and Leo leaned closer to her face. “It’ll be like hands pressing against each other to pray,” he whispered against her lips.
“Do you think god would have the same opinion?” She breathed against his mouth. Suddenly she could hear the jingle and jangle of her mother’s jewelry approaching them. The elevator doors sprung open and she shoved Leonardo into the small lift. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in after him.

3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?
i get possessed by the giant spaghetti monster-- kidding, kidding! i guess it's cursed bc i just open a 200+ google doc? and i wait for it to load? its also cursed bc i usually get into the zone(tm) at around midnight/1am and its good bc yay writing but also some days i just wanna pass tf out and then bamn, i am compelled by the brainworm to stay up till 4am on a weekday. good in the summer, bad during the semester jkbsdkfbs
16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?
my laptop LMAOOOO. i was reading romeo and juliet for a class and instead of using a pen or leaving the book open my body pulled muscle memory on me and i closed the laptop on the book. see, i used to use my laptop as a folder back in hs and that just carried over
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
hm okay, i definitely started back in my freshman year of hs more for myself than anything. i also started out as an ' [y/n] x character ' writer bc fuck it, i really like them. i still read them from time to time. but it started as 'hey, this doesn't exist. i wanna write it'. i also tried getting into poetry like an edgy mf but im not that creative with words, i've always been better with numbers (tho recently this isn't the case lmaooo). my stuff definitely has a lot of domestic fluff because my ass has a sweet tooth for that type of stuff, ya know? it's only recently that i started shifting away from the y/n and to the 'let other characters interact with each other' genre. there are so many bumps in the road, but my biggest ones are being hella wordy and biting off more than i can chew. i want to be hella ambitious with what i write and i wanna write it all flowery and all that stuff but it doesn't happen. im still finding my style. its all rough around the edges rn (in my opinion) but i want to get better! :D i want to be able to write with a nice flow and with multiple characters, not just two.
28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?
all of them are delightful!!! if i had to pick a favorite it has to be DAVIS tho. DAVIS has the potential to be absolutely unhinged but also positively restrained? also a big deus ex machina? bc they just rule everything :D i've always been fond of chaotic neutral/chaotic good characters!!! (little shits are my favorite, and in turn, i love reading soft parent/child fics or fics similar)

So I finished First Kill, and I have thoughts about it.
Serious stuff up front:
I've contemplated talking about the antisemitic tropes that are in the show but I ultimately decided against it. There are Jewish people who have talked about it who can articulate it and speak with much more authority on it than I can. I defer to people who know more than me on this. Nevertheless I think it's important that consumption of this show and discussions surrounding it takes place with the knowledge that these tropes are in it.
Now on to the much less serious shit:
First Kill is by essence, a Romeo and Juliet re-telling, and one that is done with the subtlety of a bright pink meteorite the size of Texas crashing into an ocean of glitter.
But this is not in itself a bad thing. What's frustrating is that it does the same thing that every modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet does and completely misses the point of the fucking play, the love of Romeo and Juliet is not supposed to be aspired to, and it's a pet peeve of mine to see this constantly happen. And like, I get it, love, or what I consider to be more accurate: lust, hits hard and it leads to a lot of compelling drama, but for fuck's sake man, you write another story.
The show also wants to frame both families as equally ridiculous for keeping the leads apart, as though one family is not literally blood sucking murderers. Shit man Elinor has a box full of the IDs of people's she's killed. There is a whole ceremony surrounding a vampire's first kill. But because the Romeo and Juliet framing requires that both families be treated with equal disdain, we just pretend like these people aren't literal murderers? Like Juliette doesn't even renounce her family, like at all. It's tense with them but she still like is cool with them and bickers with her sister because she literally killed her girlfriend's brother with the same dramatic weight one would give to her borrowing her dress without asking.
It is fucking ridiculous because the show refuses to concede Calliope's family either has a point about wanting to keep her away from Juliette or that Juliette is at least ok with the fact that her family FUCKING KILLS PEOPLE.
It's such a strange stance to take.
Also the character's largely don't care about things that should play a much bigger part in the narrative. For like half the show we, the audience, are left with confusion over who killed the person Juliette is taking credit for being her first kill/feeding, and nearly every character quickly learns that she did not in fact kill them. But for some reason, no one seems to give a fuck that this girl has been killed, clearly by a monster, which is something neither family wants in town. No one even questions "If you didn't kill her then who did?" until the pay off comes and the impact is pathetic because the characters have not cared about this mystery for more than one scene.
Honestly the amount of things that should be big but are just ignored are mind-blowing. Oh your estranged brother showed up with his witch girlfriends and has malice in his heart and intent to kill your sister that you for some reason still like? Better not tell anyone that they've already committed murder, created a zombie and approached you for help with destroying your bloodline.
And then there's the Burns family who don't even seem to like each other? All these mfs do is argue and it's not even in like a realistic way. It might just be because this show has a bad case of Only Child Writing Sibling Dialogue, but like for reals, these mfs do not seem to even want to be around each other.
What this series is showing us vs what it is telling us is so insanely disconnected that it just leaves you confused.
I can sit here and I can on and on about bad visual effects, or poor sound engineering, or the lackluster soundtrack, or the how some lines have bad delivery, or the writing being half-heartedly and haphazardly thrown together, or the frankly boring cinematography. But each of these things is not in and of itself the reason for this show being so painful to sit through. Everything kind of intersects to a create a failure that is so much larger than the sum of its parts.
And maybe I'm only noticing all of this because the series failed to capture me so I had the attention available to nitpick but whatever.
And if you like it, whatever, I've certainly enjoyed worse shows.

What a fucking pretentious menu Clara prepared for her daughter’s wedding. Who the hell would want quail eggs and “chilled strawberry soup”? What even is that?? Can’t we just have steak and chili cheese fries...and maybe a cake made entirely of pizza? GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT, CLARA.
But seriously, why didn’t Nancy at least tell them about Jessalyn’s backpack when she told them about Harper being in the basement??? Was she afraid they’d be pissed she ate the candy bar???
Harper: “Then one day I was older than my older sister, and older still to this day.” This story really does break my heart.

I genuinely love this game. I love how there’s alternate endings and I love all of the characters, even cold hearted Clara. Definitely some plot holes, like who Clara’s father is (we all suspect what happened) and how it was alluded the factory had slaves. I understand why HeR wouldn’t delve deeper into that though because it is DARK. But I really wish they would have it left up to our own interpretation of what caused the hallucinations, carbon monoxide poisoning or not.

betty cooks. she’s so cute and motherly and she adores cooking for her significant other, which is beneficial as jughead fucking adores her cooking
we all know jughead gets hyped for halloween but betty is a slut for christmas (which jughead hates but whatever) he likes the spookiness and scaring betty bc its so cute when she jumps and grabs his forearm in the dark, but she loves christmas and the warm cooking and the open fireplace and the new pjs and the reindeer decorations and seeing her mother (bc mama cooper is loveable no matter how over the top she can be)
betty initiates the couple selfies. OBVIOUSLY. i mean, she has a whole album on her phone just for pictures of the pair that she plans to print off and make into a scrapbook some day. she cant do that without the materials, can she?
jughead forgets all important dates. but he has so much on his mind okay? he doesnt mean to, sometimes things just slip his memory and it really pisses betty off but it’s okay bc a nice meal and a foot rub later she’s all his again
jughead. and betty never sends him food shopping anymore. bc half of the money gets spent on snacks that are unhealthy and tempts her and if she suffers another breakout before this reunion party she will snap. her clear skin has been on a roll for a while now she plans to keep it that way
both of them. bc they’re sappy and disgusting. bets and jugs. romeo and juliet. tweedle dum and tweedle dee. any iconic pairing the two were aware of, they named themselves after, even if they didn’t fit the narrative, bc that’s just what they do :)

The World Was Wide Enough
I have some shit to say about this damn song. I’m sorry in advance, this is going to be all over the place.
This song right here. The World Was Wide Enough. This song is filled with so many intricate details musically, thematically, and lyrically, it blows my mind. I’m gonna focus on the musical aspects for this post bc I don’t want to be THAT annoying. Keep in mind, I don’t know music terminology very well. I’m just a Big Nerd who likes to listen to the instrumental versions of songs. In “The World Was Wide Enough”, there are a few repeating melodic motifs that we’ve heard in previous songs. 
The first one I noticed is towards the beginning. Lurking in the background of the music, beginning with the line, “We rowed across the Hudson at dawn” is the melody that underlies most of Burr’s narration. It started out as the simple piano line in “Alexander Hamilton” (which later became the whoa-oh-ohs from “My Shot”), sounded a bit more casual and syncopated by the beginning of “What’d I Miss,” and now has a more eerie tone, played on a synthesizer instead of a piano (I think, I don’t actually know shit from fuck). This echoes Burr’s descent from a reasonably dispassionate narrator into someone with a very personal stake both in how things play out and how events are perceived after the fact. Burr is now an unreliable narrator.
As we progress through the song, there are popping noises hidden in the background that sound like gunshots. They get more and more prominent, to the point where the drumbeat itself mimics gunshots during the line “They won’t teach you this in your classes” and so on.
At this point, you hear a clock/timer ticking as the chorus starts to count down. I think this is the clock Hamilton has been hearing his entire life, why he writes like he’s running out of time. Philip counts to nine in French in “Blow Us All Away” and “Take a Break”. I think that this is a motif for the duel itself and the count is a foreshadowing of the duel but in a larger sense this endless counting could be representative of that ticking clock as Hamilton is running out of time
The legacy monologue. I could go on for ten million years about this damn monologue, but I want to focus on the background. When you first listen, it sounds like nothing, it’s basically spoken word poetry. But if you listen to the instrumental version, you notice that the background noise sounds almost like the ocean (“I didn’t drown, I couldn’t seem to die”, this couldbe alluding to some ocean symbolism involiving icarus falling into the sea, hamilton being icarus, thesun being his ambition, and the sea being eliza, but that’s another post for another day son). After the second “legacy” the noise gets more noticeable and you hear wind start to pick up and it culminates in actual hurricane noises that don’t stop until he thinks of Eliza. Finally, this mf thinks about how this major decision, to through away his shot, is going to affect his wife. You can hear the grief in his voice when he says “My love, take your time”, and the hurricane noises cease. In Hurricane, all he could think of was his legacy. Even when he mentioned Eliza, it was about how his letters won her over. Here, he is thinking of her and what he is leaving her with (a lot of debt).
Burr shoots homeboy. From the moment the bullet hits Hamilton until he dies, there is a soft pulsing bass line underscoring the music. While this bass line was used as Philip died in “Stay Alive (Reprise)”, it also very closely follows the rhythm of the claps at the beginning of “Wait For It” and the pulse underneath “Aaron Burr, Sir” It is interesting to note the correlation of this pulsing, yet steady rhythm, with the heartbeat of a dying Hamilton, almost as if to say that if Burr had decided to “Wait For It” they would have been applauding him. 
The shock of the moment continues into the lyrics and delivery. Not only does Burr sounds dazed and a little numb during this verse, he even forgets to rhyme. He is no longer “succinct'” and it takes him until he “hear[s] wailing” for it to sink in, then he returns to a rhyming pattern. 
The pulse stops with the clang of a bell at the word “both,” signaling to the audience exactly when Alexander passes away. The bell symbolizes the church bells tolling for Alexander’s death, but it also recalls Hamilton claiming to be “louder than the crack in the bell” in Hurricane. The bell stops right as Burr says “Death doesn’t discriminate” which really reinforces the shock of what just happened here. 
We, the audience, knew Hamilton was going to die. They told us in the first song. In Lin’s own words, “That’s exactly what you want when you’re producing Romeo and Juliet. ‘Juliet, just wake up before he drinks the thing!’ And we know what’s gonna happen! We know they’re both gonna die! But if it’s a good production, you gasp anyway. And that’s what we’re after here. By Oskar pushing and pushing, he got us to a place where we get the audience gasping.”
Behind the line, “death doesn’t discriminate...” we hear the piano motif for “Wait For It”, however, it sounds different here. I don’t know music theory or anything, but I think it’s in a major key at this point, whereas in the actual song “Wait For It” and every other instance we’ve heard this motif, it has been in a minor key. Now, I feel like, given the circumstances, this should be reversed. Burr just villainized himself in the eyes if the country he helped build, why is that melody so bright, when it was so somber and complex before? I think that's the irony of it. It's mockingly upbeat because Burr got what he thought he wanted. He got even.
