A guy from my screenwriting class shared this one with me and I’m honestly so relieved that this type of media exists
I took Swedish in college and my brain translated parts of songs into Swedish as I learned more of the language. This was also long before my AuDHD was confirmed by a clinical psychologist. It was just another weird secret I kept about my brain

I was listening to pApA $ucre by Eddy de Pretto and got real stuck on "ton truc" being used. Because I knew it meant "your thing", so I kept looking to seeing if it also could be a euphemism for penis based on context.
Because it completely slipped my mind that "your thing" was slang for penis in English too

hello language learners! new this month in the language village, a chill way to practice a little bit every day: the one sentence club! as the title suggests, the idea is to write one sentence in your target language(s) every day. for an extra challenge, especially if your target language uses a different script, try handwriting the sentence too!
join the language village discord server to receive daily reminder pings, get inspiration from a daily question prompt, and participate alongside other one sentence club members!
feel free to tag #langvillage if you post your sentences on tumblr ✨

👋 Hi all! I appreciate your responses on the book club idea so far! Now, if among those interested, we have a disparity in the levels of reading comprehension, I would divide the club in two groups : one of people who can already read whole books in French/fluent/native french speakers, and another group of people currently learning the language who want to practice reading in French and maybe would like the support of others in the same situation.
Each group would read a different book every month to be better suited to both levels; and at the end of the month, we can share our thoughts between groups in various ways. (If done on discord, we could set up voice chat sessions, or have meetings where we read a summary of the book we read, or our review of it...).
I personally would love to be in a group with fellow native french speakers who want to read more french. 99% of what I read is in English, and I've been wanting to reconnect and re-spark interest in my first language. So if that also feels relatable to any of you, you would be so welcome to join this. It would be nice to have a variety of people there.
❤️Like this post if you would like to join, and tell me in the notes/ask/DM if you'd be on Tumblr and/or Discord so I can plan accordingly. Thank you! ✨

I read your pinned post where you mentioned trying to learn French and going off of the fact that you know Spanish to gauge the difficulty and friend. Let Me Tell You. French is apparently HARDER to learn than Spanish (I remember being told why, I think it's because there are less cognates and because well. Look at french, just look at it and also fuck you false cognates /lh) and I can honestly agree with that. I know a very small amount of spanish and even I can still glean a meaning when seeing written spanish sometimes. French before I learned it is fucking unintelligible. I am a 21 year old adult who has been studying since middle school and sometimes I still doubt myself and need to call up my best friend wordreference to make sure I actually know what x french word means. At 11 years old I made the executive decision to take the only language my school offered other than Spanish purely to spite my dad, by high school I was in college-level courses and I STILL wrestle with this language after a decade of study. I've met a NATIVE SPEAKER who tells me even he finds the language confusing. There is no winning with french. Anyways, thank you for listening to my insane people ramblings about the french language.
FRENCH IS SO DIFFICULT 😭
(I have nothing else to add to what you said I just agree …. Spanish is so kind to me in comparison. Even Japanese feels easier than French to me. )

Figuring out what is normal to understand vs what would probably need translated in the Galidraan au re: Anakin, Ahsoka, and Derry is very difficult because despite being bilingual and working on a third language I do not know if the gaps in my language skills are normal or if I am just an idiot.

“but sasha you just spent like the past hour complaining about having to talk to other people in french why would you want to go back to europe” easy. i don’t speak german or italian or spanish. and the awkwardness of being an english speaker in austria or italy or wherever is far better than trying to speak subpar french to a french person
