you know aira as a mixed race character could have been made SO much more interesting with this story if it was written. like the exact opposite of how it was written
so aira in japan was often assumed to be a foreigner because he's blonde and (supposedly) racially ambiguous looking. this bothered him because he didn't like people assuming that he was so much different from them when, in reality, he had pretty much the same childhood as any other japanese kid.
but imagine for this story, they travel to france but instead of immediately being mistaken for a local for some reason (how white is this boy supposed to look), he's instead ALSO assumed to be a foreigner while in france. he doesn't dress like a local, he's not speaking french, and his group of friends is a lot more obviously not white than he is. this should make him happy, right? since they're not assuming he's something he isn't, like they did at home. but it makes him instead just feel really... othered. if he doesn't fit in japan and he doesn't fit in in france, then where does he fit in? why is he too much of something for one group of people, but not enough of it for the other?
but does this not make him even more fit to stand at the side of alkaloid, the unit who's united by their shared experience of being othered? so maybe its alright if a lot of the people around him don't make him feel like he belongs. because he's already found where he's supposed to be.

We see him come and know him ours
Russia: "Carol of the Russian Children," traditional // Kenya: The Nativity, Elima Njau // France: "Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella," Nicolas Saboly // Haiti: Madonna and Child, Ismael Saincilus // Australia: "The Three Drovers," William James // China: Tryptic by Lu Hongnian // Canadian/Algonquian: "Huron Carol," Jean de Brébeuf
#the visual depictions are lovely#but what really gets me every time are the little cultural details in the music#music that tells the story of the Nativity while placing it in a world that's familiar to the listener#fur robed moujiks on snowboard plateaus in place of middle eastern shepherds#bark lodges instead of stables and rabbit skin in place of swaddling clothes#wandering hunter and chiefs from far off places instead of shepherds and wise men (man i love the Huron Carol)#and little french girls running to gather the village to come see Jesus#it's easy for an excess of historical concern to make Jesus feel distant and far off#/I know/ that Jesus was born in the ancient near east and have had my fill of books and sermons and the like unpacking the implications#I've laughed with my friends and family at the wild inaccuracies of Nativity sets and tellings#the crazy blonde mary in the kids nativity set at Walmart#what is that alpaca doing at the living Nativity don't they know those are south American?#yada yada#and then i look at these carols and think. it's okay not to get mired in the history. good even#yes Jesus entered into time and space in a very specific manner#but he also came for all of us#as another carol says: we see him come and know him ours#i just think this practice is lovely#that the impact of the Incarnation was such that it send little french girls running to their villages#and drew algonquin hunters and russian peasants to the manger to see him#it's the great crowd of witnesses in a way#all of us together preparing him room throughout all the corners of the earth#in Bethlehem that night it was only the shepherds who got to see him#but in spirit it was all of us#because it's just like the angel said:#good news of great joy which will be to all people#to all people#starting with the shepherds and going out to all the earth#unto us a child is born#intertextuality

Imagine being in a classics class with 6 kids, I say. Imagine how strange and isolated and mysterious. Then it occurs to me that my high school Latin class had 12 kids and 4 by the final semester senior year.
We wanted to start a Latin Club with some of the other grade levels so that we could have a reason to talk to more people about Roman stuff during lunch, but the activities coordinator said the club was denied because it was too exclusive since it was based on a language too few people knew. The Latin teacher thought that was bullshit so he said we could hang out in his classroom anyway. We started calling this “The Illegal Latin Club” then one day our teacher gave us t-shirts that said “I didn’t choose the thug life, the thug life chose me” in Latin on the back.

Harper was right there, alongside their Dad and Papa, and she looked amazing, Eden thought. She was always interested in designing clothes and looks, and her own fashion style was impeccable. This was also why she stayed behind in Twinbrook to pursue an internship for her passion.
Harper looked just like Papa Lennon, especially after cutting her hair and starting to wear glasses. She retained their elegance and charm, that's for sure. Eden herself always thought she's a little reflection of their Dad Tobias - passionate, active, sociable. She only wished she had as much confidence as him at times.

British publishers seem to have a strange habit of classifying nineteenth century French novels as children’s books (a nebulous category I know- children are often more than capable of reading so-called ‘adult’ books but I find it odd nonetheless).
Jules Verne is the first one that springs to mind, but the one that always confuses me is ‘The Three Musketeers’. Yes it’s got all the swashbuckling ingredients that make up a good boys’ own story, but I’m really not sure that it’s strictly a ‘children’s’ classic.
This brought to you by the fact that I’m trying to sort all my other Dumas books into order when I realised that the ‘Three Musketeers’ wasn’t among them, even though it’s part of a wider ‘series’, the other books of which are in my ‘adult’ books. But because my copy of ‘The Three Musketeers’ was part of a set of ‘children’s classics’, it’s languishing in a box somewhere, alongside The Railway Children and the Secret Garden (great books both, but very different in tone I think). I don’t want to break that set up but I also don’t see why the story of Milady de Winter is more child appropriate than the Count of Monte Cristo.
#I should go back and reread Musketeers but even as a 9 year old I knew something stank about the treatment of Milady#And if it had been wrapped up as an adult book I would have been able to engage with the story and analyse it with the complexity it deserve#But the fact it's packaged up like a book for little children left me confused instead of intrigued as a kid#You could make the argument that any swashbuckling adventure story is for kids but I'm a Scot and I have to repudiate that strongly#Otherwise Scott and Stevenson- though not inappropriate for children either- would be left out in the cold#Why is it acceptable to do that to the French#To be fair Ivanhoe sometimes gets treated like a kids' book#Interestingly Waverley almost never is but that might just be because it's less popular nowadays#Kidnapped and Ivanhoe are both appropriate for kids in my opinion and so are most adventure stories don't get me wrong#Kids are pretty bright and ok so sometimes they're not ready for certain things but that's really up to them as readers#But if there was ever an adventure story that might have been more aimed at adult readers#I have to feel that it's the Three Musketeers#It's definitely a pattern with French translations in particular I think#Though some of the racism in the Lost World (also part of the children's classics set) also seems rather dubious#I don't know much about literature by the way it's not really my speciality so there may be reasoning#And I know that the concept of 'children's books' is a really vague and silly one#I just think it's odd that certain work by French authors tend to get lumped together under that label

you know, if you see a fic that includes “white french man hit list” in the title knowing that one of the main characters is french and white and are not expecting something that’s going to address, you know, white french men, then i think maybe you shouldn’t read it. or maybe read with critical thinking skills. thanks & peace and love on planet earth<3

Garçon - Koxie
In French, ç is pronounced as a ss sound while a regular c is (usually) a k sound. "Con" means dickhead, "gare" (in this context) means watch out. Basically, this song uses a pun that can't really be translated.
Earlier, I was driving on my scooter in Paris From a car, at the red light, some guy tells me "Hey ma'am, what time is it ?" I answer "12 pm" He tells me "Hey ma'am, you're crazy hot, how about you give me a lil treat ?" His buddies laugh, I didn't understand at the time. I say "Hey dude, you don't speak to people that way, you wouldn't like people talking to your mother that way." The dude looks at me with a guard doig's face and goes "Ayo, don't talk about my mom or I'll fuck you up" I answer "Calm down Alphonse. I don't know you, you attack me, what's up with that lack of finesse ? Nobody told you to treat women like princesses ?" He goes "Yeah, fuck you !" I tell him "You're not, that's where the issue lays"
Did you know that if you take the cedilla out of of garçon, you're left with garcon, and watch out for dickheads girl, watch out for dickheads Watch out for dickheads, watch our for dickheads that lose their cedillas If you take the cedilla out of of garçon, you're left with garcon, and watch out for dickheads girl, watch out for dickheads Watch out for dickheads, watch our for dickheads that lose their cedillas
I go my way, next light I hear "Hey slut, I can take you whenever !" Yet again it's Alphonse with his stupid face I tell him "Come on, you're digging your own grave, that's cringe. Can't believe you dude, get real ! You think you're Tony Montana, you don't even have pubes." He says "Stop being crass, see where I'm gonna put it in" "You're calling me crass ? Talk about pots and kettles. What a joke. Who do you think you are ? Stop that now" I get off, he gets off, I tell him "Your head's a mess. What are you gonna do now ? Aren't you in a situation. I want an apology, I'm waiting, and I'm not leaving without it." He tells me "No, YOU apologise you crazy witch" "That's a good one, I gave you the time, I shouldn't have bothered"
Here's how some boys talk. How shameful. They deserve a good talking to. Wanna play ? Let's play I tell him "Take your pants off. Lots of talking, not a lot of doing You asked me for a blowjob." Suddenly Alphonse snaps out of it. He stands down and tells me "Ok, fine, leave me alone, sorry." I tell him "Good, you look less stupid. Talking to women that way isn't normal There's a serious education issue. And even so, I'm sure you're not such a bad guy." He tells me "You're right, I feel stupid ! My buddies are pressuring me !" I tell him "Ok, no need to cry !" That's the last thing I needed Alphonse breaks down in my arms I tell him "You look like you need some loving. Come here, give auntie a kiss"

Merki 😘

I was scrolling on twitter (shame on me) and I came across some IVE fans tweeting a tag about how he should apologise to IVE (along with videos of them destroying skz merch) and the thing I find funniest about IVE fans telling Chan to apologise to them when he purposefully didn’t name drop anyone just speaks for itself. Like he is denouncing a lack of respect but didn’t name drop anyone to not stir any drama and here you are, attributing that remark to the group you like instead of realising that maybe, just maybe he wasn’t talking about them. Not to mention that by attributing the blame to them, you’re not only admitting that the group you like aren’t beyond lacking respect to their elders, but you’re starting unecessary drama whilst painting the people you claim to appreciate and stand up for in a negative light.
It’s the perfect case of no winner possible because on one hand you’re asking someone who made a remark whilst not outwardly cornering someone to apologise for supposedly offending a group of individuals (who we aren’t even sure it was about them like yeah there were only six groups and he mentioned the person lacking respect being “younger generation” but that by definition only alienates mamamoo and Ive seems like the best contender for that (most recent group with nmixx but nmixx know skz on a somewhat personal level and they’ve have been known to not really emphasize “proper” greetings) but what he said, which is the only thing he can be held accountable for in the end, doesn’t exclude the other groups) who we aren’t even sure were the ones targeted. And on the other side we have a group who may have nothing to do with the situation getting flamed by their fandom for lacking respect when maybe they really weren’t at fault anywhere. And then finally you have the people demanding and receiving that apology and they lose in the sense that they will forever look like clowns in everyone else’s eyes.
And this is no hate to IVE, as I have previously stated, for all we know they weren’t the ones at fault. Even if they were, Chan’s intention was to be able to make a remark in a non confrontational way as to not tarnish another group’s reputation all the while sending a message on the fact etiquette exists. The only thing harming anyone in this story is speculation. I just think this is a perfect example of why IVE keep on getting into controversies all the time, those girls could breathe and someone would start saying they are anti-ecology because the act of breathing lets out carbon dioxyde and therefore they don’t care about the planet. By microanalysing anything and everything you’re just creating an incredibly toxic environment and retroactively, no one can win in the end so it really is just pointless.
