I personally like Thunder's prosthetic. Explained it to my friend (who does use a mobility device, a cane and wheelchair, and listens to me rant and infodump about BB) and they agreed, it's important to know that not every person needs what someone wants to give them. It's another example of "bad ableist person does a thing that hurts a disabled person because they are bad and ableist".

Clear Sky got Jagged Peak killed and would have killed Sunlit Frost! He would absolutely force his disabled son to be "normal" and present it like a privilege. "I wouldn't do this for anyone else, it's special, why don't you want to be helped?"

Thunder Storm should toss it in Clear Sky's face. (I would say toss it into the river but we do not pollute waterways in this house)

Since BB!DOTC tackles some of the heaviest topics in the entire series because its canon equivalent is so dark, I think very carefully about what I do here and how I show it. I take feedback on its sensitive aspects very seriously. If I'm understanding the criticism properly, it's that I should avoid stigmatizing prosthetics by making sure Thunder Storm's not the only one with it-- which he's not! And I'll add even more.

I don't want to avoid something only because it's uncomfortable if the topic is important, and my portrayal is respectful. Ableism IS uncomfortable! There are some situations where a prosthetic is not wanted! I think the rejection of this particular one is both a good opportunity to show a type of ableism and ALSO is very fitting for the characters.

In BB!Clear Sky's mind, the villain, he's fixing an old mistake. He can't admit that he got Jagged Peak killed or take REAL accountability for it (though he will, occasionally, apologize insincerely), but deep in his bones, he knows what he did was cruel. He'll never tell anyone this because he doesn't really cognate it himself, but Thunder Storm NEEDS to take his gift.

If Thunder doesn't take it, it blows a hole in his newest story. You see, throwing Jagged Peak out was All That Could Have Been Done back then. It was a Tragedy and he simply Made A Hard Choice. He regrets it very much, But You Have To Understand.

But now? Now? Well, behold. Look at what he's accomplished since the tragic death of his little brother. His cats are well-fed, cared for, and stable enough to make such incredible advancements. If only Jagged Peak had been able to hold on longer, if only he could be here now, I could fix him.

Just like I can (MAKE YOU JUST LIKE ME) fix you.

"Everything I've ever done is for Jagged Peak. For Fluttering Wing. For you." Thunder Sky is SPECIAL, but if he rejects any gift, tries to turn down the "privileges" offered to him, in an instant that becomes ungratefulness and arrogance. He both forces him to be special, and then leverages it against him if it's rejected. "Spoiled brat, doesn't appreciate what I've worked so hard to give him."

It all goes back to him and his own guilt. He can NEVER be wrong. He can't accept his family doesn't have to be "normal" or reflect his own ability. He won't see himself as a bully, let alone a murderer. It was never about his son's comfort or finding out what Thunder Storm wants or needs, it was about his own ego.

...All that said I'm still taking feedback if there's anything else I should keep in mind, or if anyone has a counter point, especially if you also have experience here.

Weird Creature of the Day: Giant golden-crowned flying fox

What a beautiful large boy! It's Acerodon jubatus!

This is one of the largest bats in the world, weighing up to 1.4 kg (3.1 lb) and growing a wingspan of up to 1.7 m (5.6 ft)-- that's nearly as long as I am tall! That's longer than many humans are tall!

A. jubatus is only found in the Philippines-- one of the most biodiverse places in the world! They are currently endangered. Their populations are declining due to habitat loss and bushmeat hunting (which occurs mostly in rural, impoverished areas). The prevalence of bushmeat hunting comes from a long history of colonization, labor and land exploitation, and natural disasters exacerbated by climate change (which is itself a result of colonizers' exploitation and pollution of the global South).

They live in colonies of hundreds to thousands, and sometimes live in mixed-species groups with large flying foxes (P. vampyrus). The two species often hunt and rest in the same areas, as both are nocturnal.

Moms of this species give birth to 1 individual at most once a year. Not much is known about the child-rearing behaviors of this species, but parent individuals have been observed helping their offspring with food and other needs as they grow into adults. Most individuals live between 13-30 years in their natural habitat.

They are primarily frugivorous and a majority of their diet is figs. In my humble opinion, that shows excellent taste. They travel pretty far from where they roost to where they feed- some individuals have been seen traveling roughly 12 km (7.5 mi) for food.

Like most megabats, they don't echolocate. Thankfully, the figs are good sports and don't try to run far.

As for AU stuff-

I think a super cool side spin to the Drangon!AU would be if IK became the world's first dragon rider, like a HTTYD situation !

I think about the transition from "small weakling human" to "precious baby child" all the time, so I feel like the process of them learning about each other (the brothers + IK) in the sense of being in tune while flying is so sweet,,, like, they all obviously have different flying styles, and I'd imagine that Satan, Levi, and Belphie can't even fly at *all*, so getting accustomed to the ways they operate was probably pretty tough but SO cool for IK yknow

And on the flip side it was probably a struggle for the brothers to learn to trust her cues when training or even actively fighting something when they're so used to being independent, but they have to realize that she's not trying to control them, but work as one essentially

Idk, they just make me so happy!!!!! I love dragons!!!!!!

Any thoughts on maybe who enjoys flying/riding with her the most/who has the easiest time adapting to her cues? or any other misc thoughts, up to you!!

oooooooh humans becoming so close to their creature companions that all their movements are in sync is something so dear to me

i reckon mammon (who is nearly always ik's first friend, no matter what universe, and also the best flier) would be super quick to get used to giving her rides around the place, but at first it's more like just carrying a doll around because ik is clutching him stock-still in Terror the whole time

but then!! there's a moment where it just sort of clicks. i'm vaguely remembering a trick in one of the httyd movies where hiccup jumps off toothless's back, and then toothless catches him again? it'd be like that, except it happens completely by accident the first time, but then they keep doing it for fun

on the other hand lucifer would take SO long to properly sync, because he's always like I Will Do As I Think Is Best, Your Commands Are Mere Suggestions. for him i think it'd take a moment of him being in danger and needing to rely on ik, and that's where it clicks for him. he mellows out, but he keeps acting as if he marches only to the beat of his own drum, even though he is absolutely doing everything ik tells him to

in general ik would have a set of subtle but specific gestures (some of which are unique to each brother) that she uses to both communicate and instruct, and i reckon levi likes that bit the most. since he's more geared for swimming, he'd have a range of clicks and whistles designed for underwater communication, and ik learns to understand and reply - so it's like they have their own secret language

are timie and skull kid friends again now that majora is gone?

Is it bad to say that while Timie and Skullkid are back to normal i don't think they'll ever be the best friends they were before Majora's Mask? Hell even OoT, Timie is a person whos growing up (or if we go by oot is WAY to grown up to be a normal 9-12 yearold to begin with), and Skullkid will forever a child, after a certain point their lives are going to go in opposite directions, sometimes you just grow apart from a friend.

But, Majora isn't dead, it "reset" itself, it's around and is...well Skullkid's BEST FRIEND now. despite all the shit that's happened between them, Majora still wanted to be a friend to Skullkid, and they wanted a friend to stay.

Like SHEESH idk how to explain this but I think Majora saw Tatl Tael and Skull kid all playing and said ME TOO. and then Majora showed them how to take the ladder away from the pool in the sims and it started their murder and mischief spree.

Like Majora has similar feelings of abandonment that Skullkid has. It doesn't understand mortal emotions because it's a God but it DOES understand loneliness. Everything it does was ultimately for both it and Skullkid's amusement and taking revenge on Timie because well Majora thinks Timie is an ass, and they can be! Skullkid and Majora were both under the impression that Timie abandoned Skullkid while looking for Navi.

No one is evil or wrong in this situation, Timie wanted to find Navi and Skullkid doesnt seem to understand who or what Timie was even looking for, in their perspective their human friend woke up one day and started acting like a completely new person, they dont understand all the stuff they JUST went through. And Majora is a sad and lonely child god who had a very bad outlook on creation and just didn't understand the value of life and what being a friend can really be to someone. It ended up finding that out through Skullkid.

Sorry for that SUPER long explanation, I could of just said actually Majora is alive and they're all friends! But its more complicated then that, Timie is growing up, and even though they will forever be friends with Skullkid it's just not the same anymore.

But damn doesn't Timie wish it could be the same again.
