don't know how to say this in a nice way but. the food recalls we're having? the shortages of (and high prices) of eggs due to bird flu? they're not JUST because of lax regulations under trump though they are. they're also because animal agriculture when done intensively is fraught with risk and because we literally don't have the space to sustain ourselves like this. and some of us are so privileged by the fact that this global clusterfuck of a food system we have is designed to feed the western empire that they don't realise how bad it is
I know going vegan or even eating less meat is not possible for many people but i am BEGGING you to please, let's all collectively get our heads out of our asses and realise for one more time that just because individual behaviour does very little it doesn't mean that there isn't a LOT of collective action and systemic change that needs to happen. because nutritious food from plants should be cheap and easy to access but it isn't! because animal products, despite taking a lot more resources to get to the point of consumption are heavily subsidised. because our whole food system is based on competition rather than making sure everyone gets enough to survive, starting with the most vulnerable who aren't going to have as many options as the rest of us.

Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye to promote importance of food safety announce that a well-attended event is organized to celebrate World Food Safety Day on 7 June 2024.
The WWorld Food Safety Day 2024 event, organized in cooperation with MoAF and the Federation of Food&Beverage Industry Associations of Türkiye/TGDF (the largest NGO in Türkiye in the field of food), will be held at the MoAF Conference Hall and will be hosted by the Minister. The event aims to highlight the importance of food safety and promote the efforts of the MoAF and its stakeholders in matters of food safety regulations, implementation and crisis preparedness. The Chief Scientist of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) will provide information on European perspectives related to “Science, safe food, sustainability”. Meanwhile, the chairs of the seven Scientific Risk Assessment Commissions will moderate a session focusing on scientific applications in the field of food safety in Türkiye. Additionally, a dedicated session on “Information pollution in the area of Food Safety” and “Food Literacy” will be organized with the attendance of the representatives from NGOs (including TGDF and others), the FAO representative in Türkiye and the Heads of the related Departments of the General Directorate of Food and Control of MoAF. About 500 guests are invited to the physical event, targeting all the actors in the food chain, particularly, policymakers and national authorities in Türkiye, as well as International Partners such as EFSA and FAO, food producers and associations, non-governmental organizations, academia, and consumer groups.

Age 4: Nellie, Age 2, the Three Children of Mr. Thomas Patterson, 258 Symington Avenue, Who Were Poisoned by Eating Colored Caramels, and Had a Narrow escape from Death. ---- Poisoned by cheap, colored caramels, which had been purchased in a Yonge street candy store, the three children of Mr. Thomas Pattison, 258 Symington avenue, have had a narrow escape from death. Shortly after eating the caramels, which had been given them at supper-time on Sunday, they all became violently ill. Dr. Hannah Reid was summoned and worked over the children till well on in the morning. before they were past the danger point. Had it not been for timely first-aid administered by the mother, the youngest of the three probably would not have survived.
Mr. Pattison is a street car conductor, and the caramels were given him on Sunday afternoon by a new man he was taking over his run. He took five of the candies home, gave one to each of his children and ate one himself. A couple of hours after the carameis had been eaten, the youngest child, Nellie, aged two years and three months, became ill and began to vomit. Then Howard, aged six, and George, aged four, became similarly affected, and the mother and father had to attend to three children in agony all at once. The mother made the children swallow castor oil, and to her presence of mind the youngest at least owes its life. Neighbors were summoned and came in haste to help with the children. So far gone was the youngest that after two hours' incessant vomiting blood was coming from the stomach.
The father felt no ill effects from the caramel he had eaten, but complained of unusual drowsiness. The fifth caramel was taken down to the city hall for analysis yesterday and was found to contain poisonous ingredients. A quantity of caramels was purchased again yesterday from the same store where the candies were secured on Saturday, and of these an analysis will also be made.
The children have now quite re- covered from the effects of the poisoning.

What do you mean not meant for humans. Some people eat the milkbones treats despite of it. Then if they're fine nibbling on it. Then it must be human safe and you're just lying.
Pet food does not have the same safety standards as human food. The FDA does not care if twenty rats or a fistful of plastic was accidentally ground up during the manufacturing process if the end product is not meant for humans. Eating a milk bone won't make you drop dead but I also would not recommend you do that

"COMPEL USE OF ABATTOIR," Ottawa Citizen. August 10, 1912. Page 13. --- New Health Act Places City in Position.
The one objection to the establishment of a civic abattoir in Ottawa has been removed by the new regulations of the provincial board of health, which have just been announced. It is now likely that definite steps will be quickly taken towards the establishment in the city of an abattoir with a view to ensuring a better supply of meat and regulating the price.
The matter has been before the city council on several occasions and the city has gone so far as to acquire land adjacent to the incinerator site, which would be an ideal location for an abattoir and cattle yard, lying as it does close to the railways and the Rideau river. Then the question was referred to Con. Parent and Dr. Shirreff, medical health officer. The latter, while he has strongly advocated a civic abattoir, said it would be useless to establish one unless the city had authority to compel people to slaughter their animals there. The city did not have that power and so nothing was done for the time being. The new regulations of the province provide that where a municipality has established a public slaughter house it may pass bylaws requiring that no carcass or meat shall be offered for sale in the municipality unless it bears the stamp of the local or Dominion or provincial inspector.
"This removes the one objection there was to the establishment of a civic abattoir," said Dr. Shirreff to The Citizen when shown the new regulations. He says he will again urge the city to establish one.
BUTCHERS WELCOME IT. With regard to the regulation as to the inspection and stamping of meat in cities where civic abattoirs exist. there is no doubt that Ottawa when it gets its abattoir will take advantage of the act and that the butchers of this city will welcome it.
Mr. B. Slattery said to The Citizen: "This is exactly what we want, and a civic abattoir without such a regulation would be worse than useless. The whole object of an abattoir would be that only inspected and approved meat could be sold in Ottawa."
Another authority on the question doubted whether there would be a single butcher in the city who would object to the regulation. "It is a pity," he told The Citizen, "that Ontario has not gone further and decreed. that every city of a certain size must necessarily have its abattoir. At any rate, if Ottawa gets an abattoir it must certainly have a regulation that all meat sold in the city be stamped by inspectors for the civic authorities."
