Dr's. Barnes and Rogers (Part 1)
Don't worry I am already writing part two I just needed to set the scene before we get to the goooood stuff 🩷
This is doctor kink territory y'all 💦
Tagging @biteofcherry for being a wonderful enabler. Thank you for bringing this out of me and many others with one simple question 😂
@zonkie-bee
Just note this part contains mentions of pregnancy, fertility talk and a gaslighting ex-husband (he's not in it tho). If that might trigger you just give me a day and the next chapter will be just pure filth.
You sat in the waiting room of the Barnes & Rogers Clinic, feet tapping nervously. You were here to have a fertility check up, already feeling like you knew the sad truth.
Your ex husband had been certain that you couldn't have children, that the process of trying to have a baby had been made more painful for your failures. He was a dick. But the doubt and worries continued to plague you.
Finally a friend gently suggested you go to the best fertility clinic in the city. Then you could get actual answers and real solutions. It took some persuading but you decided to try it. What did you have to lose?
At that moment the office door clicked open and Dr. Barnes popped his head out. "Are you my 10am appointment?" You nod and he steps back, and you shuffle in, hoping he doesn't notice how flustered you are at how absolutely gorgeous he is.
You take a seat on the comfy couch, as he sits in an armchair across from you. You try to relax as he welcomes you and picks up his paperwork.
"So, your papers say you're worried about your ability to conceive? Are you married or trying for a baby currently?" He asks, a strand of hair falling into his face as he looks at you with kind, professional concern.
"Um... No not married anymore. That's um.... That's why we split. I just wanted to know...if it was...me? My ex said.... It was me..."
He nods, a glimmer of anger seems to cross his features. "It's never anyone's fault sweetheart..." you smile a little, a flutter in your stomach but then he moves on. He asks questions about your diet, physical activity, and of course your previous attempts at trying to get pregnant. It brings up some painful memories and he is very sympathetic and gentle with you.
"I know this is hard, you're doing so well. Don't worry sweetheart, we'll sort all this out together ok?" You look at his sweet, handsome face and smile. You feel better already. After a further few questions he leads you into his consultation room and explains the tests he's about to conduct.
The big examination bed with stirrups looks a little intimidating but his hand presses at your lower back and guides you with more confidence. "I need to take a sample, which might be a little uncomfortable but I'll do my best to be gentle ok. Just take off your skirt and underwear and get comfortable in the stirrups." He heads out of the room and you hear him chatting to another man in the corridor.
After a few moments you are legs akimbo and feeling a bit ridiculous. But the leather beneath you is soft and smooth, and the room is warm so you feel as comfortable as you'll ever be. He comes back in and he clears his throat at the view of you.
From his perspective the most beautiful perfect angel is laying spread out on his chair, her most intimate parts there for him to enjoy, but for you, you just feel nervous.
"Ok sweetheart, just relax while I check you over. Don't be embarrassed about any reactions you might have. Totally normal." You huff out a laugh and scoot down at his guidance, goosebumps breaking out as you feel his warm breath fan over your intimate area.
The way he probes you makes you bite your lip as you try not to moan. It's honestly the best pelvic exam you've ever had. By the time it comes for him to take a sample you are almost totally unaware of why you are there in the first place.
When he announces he's finished you are mortified to hear yourself whine in disappointment. Thankfully he either doesn't here or pretends he doesn't so you can chide yourself for being such an embarrassment as you get dressed.
"Ok sweetheart, I'll give you a call once we get the results." You shake his soft hand and he squeezes it gently as you smile and make you way out of his office.
⚕️
So here you were a few weeks later. You felt so nervous because when Dr Barnes called you he didn't actually tell you the results. He just told you to come in because he needed to discuss things face to face.
Finally the door clicked open and you were greeted by the handsome face of Dr Barnes. You smiled tightly as you walked in but were surprised to see another doctor sitting in the office on the couch. "This is Dr. Rogers, I wanted to have him here for this consultation, I hope that's ok?"
You nodded, trying to ignore how gorgeous both these doctors were before dropping your bag to the floor and sinking into the seat. It must be really bad if it takes two hot doctors to tell you what's written on that paper.
"Are you ok sweetheart?" Barnes asks, looking concerned at you, reading your mood as Dr Rogers turns towards you, his face also reading concern. Your eyes well up and you sink backwards into the cushions. "Can you just get it over with and tell me I'll never.... That I can't...." You broke into sobs and they both came over to you, rubbing gentle hands over your back and shoulders.
"Oh honey! No! I'm so sorry, it's not like that at all!" Barnes curses and squeezes your shoulder. You hiccup a sob and look up at them both. "What do you mean?" Dr Rogers tuts and grabs the paper from his colleague. "What my partner has stupidly failed to mention to you is that, you are in fact very much able to have babies and you don't have anything at all to worry about in terms of your fertility..."
You glance between them both, Barnes looking sheepish and Rogers looking concerned before collapsing into a combination of sobs and giggles. You can't stop laughing from sheer joy and tears of relief slip down your cheeks. Both of the doctors chuckle in surprise at your reaction. Once you calm down a more comfortable mood fills the room.
"I've always wanted a family of my own. Thank you, I feel like I can have that again now..." You smile at them both and they smile back, "just need to find the right man huh?"
"Well what about another route?" Doctor Rogers draws your attention his way and you cock your eyebrow at him. "What would that be?"
He settles back emanating confidence and professionalism, Barnes reclaims his seat and watches. "We have a trial programme, you can sign up for an insemination and we will monitor you from now until the birth of the child or children. There is considerable remuneration and you can even be provided with new accommodation should you desire it..."
You were dumbfounded. You'd never heard of anything like this before and it certainly sounded life changing, but pretty amazing at the same time. "There has to be a catch?" You say suspiciously, unable to believe this is actually real.
"Well, the insemination process is... revolutionary so it requires some open minded thinking..." Barnes says and you feel a bloom of excitement in your stomach as he looks at you.
"And once the baby is born? Is there still help or monitoring? Or are we just out in the world alone?"
You chuckle but they seem to take it quite seriously. "Absolutely not! We... I mean the programme is very interested in the life span of the child. Besides if you are successful you might want to have another perhaps?" Rogers tries to act casual but you feel like you've stumbled on something there.
Barnes hands you an envelope. "Inside is all the information plus the potential candidates for the donors. Take it home, read it and if you want to take part, call me. If not, no harm done."
⚕️
At home you spent a little while pretending to ignore the envelope but finally you caved and had a read through.
There was very little information about the medical procedures other than the things you might expect. Thorough examination process, compatibility, tests and so on. The next set of documents were mostly about the remuneration which almost made your eyes pop out of your head. Thirty Thousand dollars for the first year! All medical costs covered! It also detailed the new accommodation which sounded like the most luxurious apartment on earth. It was almost too good to resist as you looked around your rented studio flat, your instant ramen going cold as you read.
Finally there was a piece of paper that detailed the potential donors. Only two in fact. A tall blonde, with blue eyes, physically fit and a doctor! The other was a slightly shorter brunette, with blue eyes, physically fit.....and a doctor....
Oh...
⚕️

Does the Witch Doctor in Africa countries make Kabbalistic Pacts with the Devil like in Haitian Voodoo and Jamaican Obeah?
They most certainly do not make Kabbalistic Pacts with the Devil which is a Judeo Christian Islamic concept, which they were not, African priest and priestess doubled as healers both spiritual and physical , they understand there is a duality in nature as in the spiritual worlds one can tap into , eg Horus cannot exist without his polar opposite Set.
Now that said there are areas where both the Christian concepts became entwined with African religious concepts as in the cross roads and Papa Legba.
Because slave owners were worried about potential rebellion, they often separated enslaved people from the same area.
By mixing people from different regions and language groups, they could use the communication barrier to discourage or even prevent revolt. However, many of the deities were similar, and so enslaved people from different parts of Africa soon found commonalities in their spiritual beliefs and practices, which they were forced to keep hidden.
Papa Legba soon found a home in the religious structures of enslaved people in Haiti and the Caribbean, as well as in the American colonies. Author Denise Alvarado says Legba:
...stands at a spiritual crossroads and grants or denies permission to speak with the spirits of Guinee, and is believed to speak all human languages. He is always the first, and the last spirit invoked in any ceremony because his permission is needed for any communication between mortals and the loa—he opens and closes the doorway to the spirit world.
Over time, after African syncretic practices blended with Catholicism in the new world, Legba became associated with several saints, including Saint Peter, Saint Anthony, and Saint Lazarus.
In the Haitian religion of Vodou, Legba is seen as the intermediary between mortal men and the loa, or lwa. The loa are a group of spirits responsible for various aspects of daily life, and they are the children of a supreme creator, Bondye. They are divided into families, such as the Ghede and Ogou, and practitioners develop relationships with them through offerings, petitions, and prayers. Often, Papa Legba is the one who carries these prayers to the loa.
Note the cross roads would later become associated with the devil in this religious synchronism.
Statue of Legba as fertility god. Atlantide Phototravel / Getty Images Plus
Legba has evolved in numerous ways from his origins in Africa, where he is sometimes viewed as a fertility god or a trickster; he many be depicted as both male and female, sometimes with a large erect phallus. In other areas, he is a protector of children or a healer, and can grant forgiveness for crimes against others. Variants of Legba exist in many places including Brazil, Trinidad, and Cuba.
Papa Legba appears in many forms in New Orleans Voodoo and Haitian Vodou. He is typically depicted as an older man, sometimes wearing a straw hat or old tattered clothing, walking with a cane, and accompanied by a dog. He's associated with the colors black and red.
Legba is strongly associated with crossroads magic, and is referenced in a number of early twentieth-century blues tunes from the area of the Mississippi Delta. Famed bluesman Robert Johnson is said to have met a spirit at the crossroads, and offered him his soul in exchange for musical success. Although eventually the story was twisted to say Johnson met the Devil, musical folklorists believe that tale is rooted in racist ideology; instead, Johnson met Legba at the crossroads, where he had gone seeking guidance and wisdom.
Papa Legba is a master communicator, who is said to speak the languages of all human beings; he then translates petitions and delivers them to the loa. He is a teacher and warrior, but also a trickster deity. Legba is a remover of obstacles, and can be consulted to help find new, positive opportunities, thanks to his ability to open doors and new roads
Legba represents a West African and Caribbean Voodoo god. This god has many different names depending on the region in which he is worshipped is most commonly known in Haiti as Papa Legba. Papa Legba serves as the guardian of the Poto Mitan--the center of power and support in the home. Additionally, he allows for communication between humans and the spirit world. According to West African Voodoo practices, spirits of the dead are not able to inhabit one's body unless permitted by Papa Legba. The symbol for Legba typically has a red background, one of his representative colors. The symbol includes several keys which signify Legba's control over communications and forms of passage, including locks, gates, and passageways;it also includes a cane, as Papa Legba is generally depicted as an old and feeble man in the Haitian religion. There are many chants to summon Papa Legba, one of which is: Papa Legba, Open the gate for me/Atibon Legba, Open the gate for me/Open the gate for me/Papa that I may pass/When I return I will thank the Lwa.
GYE NYAME - Supremacy of God
Gye Nyame, meaning “except for God,” symbolizes God’s omnipotence through the knowledge that people should not fear anything except for God. Another interpretation of “except for God” is that no one has seen the beginning of all creations, nor will anyone live to see the end, except for God. Gye Nyame indicates the recognition of the supremacy of God over all beings, and therefore is the one that is feared and revered by all. This is one of the many Adinkra symbols of West Africa, Ghana, and is used by the Akan people in various decorations, clothing, and artwork. Some say that the symbol represents a spiral galaxy, or two hands with different gestures that refer to God being supreme to the simplistic ideals of male and female identifications that are used today. The use of this symbol by the Akan people suggests that the Akan had a highly advanced writing language that transmitted religious and cultural concepts, and also might have had a somewhat extensive knowledge of astronomy, which shows their intellect and indicates that the Akan were a more advanced civilization.
Nkisi Sarabanda, symbolizing the signature of the spirit, is a representation of a bakongo cosmogram. This symbol portrays how the Congo-angolan people viewed the interaction between the spiritual and material world, or in other words between the living and the dead;the Congo-angolan people believe that these worlds are inherently intertwined. An Nkisi is a spiritual object used for worship purposes, and have been found in places where enslaved Africans have lived in, such as in the plantation homes. Nkisis show the development of African American culture in how they are essentially African objects, but are constructed through American materials. This also reveals an aspect of the melting pot of African and American culture. Sarabanda just connotes "the highest spirit". Part of the symbol takes the form of a cross, because the Congolese had an inclination towards Christianity. Communication appears to take place at the center of the cross, where the worlds intersect, and it was believed that spirits sat at the center of the sign. The arrows represent the four winds of the universe, and the symbol as a whole resembles the form of a spiral galaxy;this indicates their interest in astronomy and affinity towards nature.
Nsoromma, meaning "children of the heavens" or "star," symbolizes the guardianship of God and how he watches over all beings. It is one of the many Adinkra symbols that the Ghanaian people have lived by. The protection of God is constant, like the stars in the universe. The stars also embody light, with the vision of light slicing through darkness as a savior, or protector. The symbol indicates the existence of the spiritual world, in which our ancestors and past families exist and watch over us, creating a feeling of safety and wholeness. Nsoromma expresses the message to live life to its fullest knowing that you are supported and strengthened by God.
Divinity of Mother Earth
Asase Ye Duru—literally meaning “the earth has no weight”—is a symbol that represents power, providence and divinity. The symbol is one of many adinkras, or depictions of important concepts created by the Akan peoples of Ghana. Asase Ye Duru emphasizes the importance of the Earth and its preservation. People must respect and nurture the Earth, and should never act in ways that might directly or indirectly harm the Earth. The significance of the Earth to the people of Ghana is evident in the following proverbs: Tumi nyina ne asase, meaning All power emanates from the earth; and Asase ye duru sen epo, meaning The earth is heavier than the sea. The African Burial Ground honors these principles, as it surrounds itself with natural resources and emphasizes the cohesion of death and nature.

Quick question about CPD for GPs. When NICE guidelines get updated do you guys get alerts or a yearly list or something to learn about the new guidance? Basically, I'm really wondering if I can now assume that the GPs involved in my care know about and understand the 2021 ME/CFS NICE guidelines? This is after a bad experience with a hospital specialist where they were completely ignorant of it.
That's a very thoughtful question. Sorry my answer is late, tumblr has a habit of eating my replies when I've half typed them, and then I'm too tired to type them all again.
I'm sorry that your hospital specialist wasn't aware of the current guidelines. I think it's great that you're familiar with the guidelines yourself and that you're ready to advocate for your needs.
In GP land, I think that most of us DO try to get some yearly training on updates - I know a lot of practices arrange for courses for their staff to stay updated. I received an inch thick A4 booklet of updated guidelines for the course I'm attending soon.
That said, there are a LOT of guidelines with a LOT of fine print. Things are constantly changing, and you do not always get the memo for a while. I can imagine that even pretty on the ball GPs may be a bit rusty on some things - because there us just...a LOT. And GP covers every specialty in human medicine to some degree. So every GP will probably be up to date on some things and slightly rusty on others. That doesn't mean that patients aren't entitled to good care, it means we have a duty to remind ourselves of the most recent guidance if we're not as familiar with a condition or treatment. And it means we should be open about our limitations and seeking help.
I spend what feels like half my life on the NICE website, the BNF and our local formulary and guidelines. I encourage clinicians to be open to saying "I'm not sure where we go from here, let me take a look or get a second opinion, and I'll get back to you".
The other issue that is often not discussed is that sonetimes there will be local guidance released by your ICB or CCG (basically the local services that fund/commission care from your hospital or GP) about what can be offered- and this may be different to what NICE recommends. A particularly egregious example is the postcode lottery that comes with fertility treatment. Sonetimes we simply cannot deliver care in line with NICE guidelines, and it sucks.
Where I've had to differ from NICE guidance, it's often been because we simply do not locally have access to what NICE recommends. I'm not going to assume that's true in your case, bit I think a lot of people don't know about how many limitations NHS services face, so I'm mentioning it here.
You're absolutely entitled to make sure that you're being treated as per current recommendations, and that if your treatment differs, you and your doc both know why your treatment is a little different.
Your GP may well be familiar with the guidelines, but if it seems that they are not, I would discuss the guidelines with them. Sometimes it's even useful to bring them up on the screen together. You can also bring a friend for support if you feel nervous about advocating for yourself. I like to recommend people write fiwn their queries, too - it's what I do when I see my own clinicians. Because when I don't, sometimes we miss pretty big things that I want answered.
And if one consultation didn't go well, there's absolutely nothing wrong with booking another consultation or seeing someone else.
I hope it goes well and that you get the right care for you.

PCOS: Understanding Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Introduction
PCOS, or polycystic ovary syndrome, is a common hormonal disorder that affects millions of women worldwide. It is characterized by the presence of multiple cysts on the ovaries, as well as a range of symptoms that can have a significant impact on a woman's quality of life. In this article, we will explore the causes, symptoms, and treatment options for PCOS, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of this condition.
What is PCOS?
PCOS is a condition that affects the female reproductive system. It occurs when the ovaries produce excess androgens, which are male hormones typically found in smaller amounts in women. This hormonal imbalance can disrupt the normal menstrual cycle and lead to the growth of small cysts on the ovaries.
Causes of PCOS
The exact cause of PCOS is unknown, but several factors may contribute to its development. These include:
Genetics: PCOS tends to run in families, suggesting a genetic link.
Insulin Resistance: Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels. Insulin resistance occurs when the body's cells become less responsive to the effects of insulin, leading to an overproduction of the hormone and an increase in androgen levels.
Hormonal Imbalance: Women with PCOS produce higher levels of androgens and lower levels of estrogen, which can disrupt the normal menstrual cycle.
Symptoms of PCOS
PCOS can manifest differently in each individual, but some common symptoms include:
Irregular or Absent Menstrual Periods: Hormonal imbalances can cause irregular or infrequent menstruation.
Excess Hair Growth: Increased androgen levels can stimulate the growth of excess facial and body hair.
Acne: PCOS-related hormonal imbalances can lead to the development of acne on the face, chest, and upper back.
Weight Gain: Many women with PCOS struggle with weight gain and find it difficult to lose weight.
Fertility Issues: PCOS is one of the leading causes of infertility in women due to the disruption of the ovarian function.
Diagnosis and Treatment
If you suspect you may have PCOS, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional. A doctor will typically perform a physical examination, review your medical history, and may order further tests, such as blood tests or ultrasound, to confirm a diagnosis.Treatment options for PCOS focus on managing symptoms and reducing the risk of long-term complications. These may include:
Lifestyle Changes: Maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise can help regulate hormone levels and improve symptoms.
Medications: Birth control pills, anti-androgen medications, and insulin-sensitizing drugs are commonly prescribed to manage PCOS symptoms.
Fertility Treatments: For women struggling with infertility, fertility treatments such as ovulation induction or in vitro fertilization (IVF) may be recommended.
Conclusion
PCOS is a complex condition that can have wide-ranging effects on a woman's health and well-being. By understanding the causes, symptoms, and treatment options for PCOS, individuals can take control of their health and work with healthcare professionals to manage their condition effectively. If you suspect you may have PCOS, it is essential to seek medical guidance for a proper diagnosis and personalized treatment plan to improve your quality of life. Remember, early intervention and ongoing management are key to living well with PCOS.

The History and Origin of Magic in Africa: An Investigative Dive
Africa, the cradle of humanity, is also home to deep spiritual and magical traditions. Magic on the African continent is intrinsically linked to its cultures, religions and ways of life, and has been a fundamental aspect of societies for millennia. This article delves into the historical roots of magic in Africa, exploring its origins, evolution and impact on African societies.
Origins and Historical Context
Magic in Africa has its origins intertwined with the earliest spiritual and religious practices on the continent. The earliest forms of African magic emerged in a context where communities were deeply dependent on nature, and magical practices were seen as a way to connect with and manipulate natural forces for the well-being of the community.
These practices date back to prehistoric times, when African ancestors used rituals, incantations and objects charged with symbolic power to influence events, cure illnesses and ensure fertility. Magic was closely linked to animist religion, in which all elements of nature—animals, plants, rivers, and mountains—were seen as endowed with spirit.
Magical Traditions and Their Guardians
Over the centuries, various magical traditions have developed in different regions of Africa. In West Africa, for example, we find Vodun, a religion that combines aspects of magic and spirituality, where practitioners believe in spirits and invisible forces that can be summoned and controlled through rituals. Vodun had a significant impact, giving rise to Voodoo in the Caribbean and parts of the Americas during the African diaspora.
In southern Africa, the shamanic practices of the San (Bushmen) and other indigenous tribes are central. Shamans act as intermediaries between the physical and spiritual worlds, using trance, ritual dances, and herbal medicines to heal and protect their communities.
Magic is also central to the traditions of the healers, known as “sangomas” in southern Africa. These practitioners are respected for their ability to communicate with ancestors, diagnose spiritual illnesses, and prescribe treatments that involve the use of specific herbs, amulets, and rituals.
The Role of Magic in Society
Magic in Africa has never been merely a matter of superstition. It plays an important social role, regulating behavior and serving as a form of community justice. For example, the use of “juju,” a form of protective magic, is common in many parts of West Africa. Juju can be used to protect against misfortune or to bring prosperity, but it can also be manipulated to curse or punish those who violate social norms.
In many African societies, magic is closely linked to political and spiritual leadership. Traditional kings and chiefs often consult diviners and priests for spiritual guidance, to ensure the protection of their people, and to legitimize their power.
Transformations and Persistence
With the advent of colonialism and the Abrahamic religions (Christianity and Islam), African magical practices faced strong opposition, often being demonized and persecuted. However, these practices did not disappear. They adapted and, in many cases, syncretized with new religions. Today, African magic remains a vital part of the cultural identity of many communities, resisting external pressures and maintaining its relevance in a modern world.
African Magic in the 21st Century
In the 21st century, African magic persists and evolves, both in its traditional forms and in new urban and global interpretations. It is present in religious practices, traditional medicine, and even in popular culture, where films, music, and literature celebrate and explore these magical aspects. In addition, there is a resurgence of global interest in these traditions, with people around the world seeking to learn and incorporate African healing and spiritual practices into their lives.
Conclusion The history of magic in Africa is rich and multifaceted, reflecting the complexity of African societies over time. Although it has faced challenges, African magical traditions continue to be a powerful force of cultural identity, spirituality and resilience. To understand this magic is to delve into the essence of Africa, a continent where the mystical and the real are deeply and inseparably intertwined.

Can I Exercise During Pregnancy?
Pregnancy is a transformative experience, often accompanied by a myriad of questions about health and well-being. One common query among expectant mothers is, "Can I exercise during pregnancy?" The short answer is yes, but with some important considerations. Exercising during pregnancy can offer numerous benefits for both the mother and the baby, provided it is done safely and under medical guidance. In this blog, we'll explore the advantages of prenatal exercise and provide tips for staying active, with insights from the experts at the best fertility clinic in Delhi, SCI IVF Hospital.
Benefits of Exercising During Pregnancy
Engaging in regular physical activity during pregnancy can lead to numerous health benefits, including:
Improved Mood and Energy Levels: Exercise can help alleviate common pregnancy symptoms such as fatigue and mood swings by boosting endorphin levels.
Better Sleep: Regular physical activity can improve sleep patterns, helping expectant mothers get the rest they need.
Reduced Pregnancy Discomfort: Exercise can help alleviate back pain, swelling, and constipation, which are common complaints during pregnancy.
Easier Labor and Delivery: Strengthening the body through exercise can lead to a smoother labor and delivery process.
Faster Postpartum Recovery: Women who exercise during pregnancy often experience quicker recovery post-birth.
Safe Exercise Practices
While exercise is beneficial, it is essential to approach it with caution during pregnancy. Here are some tips from the best IVF doctor in Delhi to ensure safe prenatal workouts:
Consult Your Healthcare Provider: Before starting any exercise regimen, it's crucial to get the green light from your healthcare provider, especially if you have any pregnancy complications.
Choose Low-Impact Activities: Opt for low-impact exercises such as walking, swimming, prenatal yoga, and stationary cycling. These activities are gentle on the joints and reduce the risk of injury.
Stay Hydrated and Avoid Overheating: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercise. Avoid exercising in hot, humid conditions to prevent overheating.
Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how your body feels during exercise. If you experience dizziness, shortness of breath, or any unusual symptoms, stop immediately and consult your doctor.
Modify as Needed: As your pregnancy progresses, you may need to modify your exercise routine. Avoid activities that involve lying flat on your back after the first trimester and exercises that pose a risk of falling or abdominal trauma.
Exercise Recommendations

Unraveling the Enigma: Exploring the Causes of Infertility in Men and Women
Infertility, a condition that affects millions of couples worldwide, can be a source of immense emotional distress and frustration. While there are numerous factors that can contribute to infertility, understanding its underlying causes is essential for effective diagnosis and treatment. In this article, we delve into the multifaceted causes of infertility in both men and women, shedding light on the complex interplay of biological, environmental, and lifestyle factors.
Causes of Infertility in Women
Ovulation Disorders: Irregular or absent ovulation can hinder conception. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, and premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) can disrupt the ovulation process.
Fallopian Tube Damage: Blockages or damage to the fallopian tubes can prevent the egg from reaching the uterus for fertilization. Previous pelvic infections, endometriosis, or surgery may contribute to fallopian tube issues.
Uterine Abnormalities: Structural abnormalities in the uterus, such as fibroids or polyps, can interfere with embryo implantation and development, leading to infertility.
Age-related Factors: As women age, the quantity and quality of their eggs decline, making conception more challenging. Advanced maternal age is a significant risk factor for infertility.
Causes of Infertility in Men
Low Sperm Count or Quality: Issues with sperm production, motility, or morphology can impair fertility. Factors such as hormonal imbalances, genetic conditions, and lifestyle choices (e.g., smoking, excessive alcohol consumption) can affect sperm health.
Varicocele: A varicocele, an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, can lead to decreased sperm production and quality. It is a common reversible cause of male infertility.
Testicular Factors: Conditions such as undescended testicles, testicular trauma, or infections can impact sperm production and function, contributing to infertility.
Ejaculatory Disorders: Disorders affecting the ejaculation process, such as retrograde ejaculation or erectile dysfunction, can hinder the delivery of sperm during intercourse.
Seeking Help from a Male Fertility Doctor
For couples struggling with infertility, consulting a male fertility doctor, also known as a reproductive urologist or andrologist, can provide valuable insights and guidance. These specialists are trained to evaluate and treat male infertility issues, offering diagnostic tests, fertility evaluations, and personalized treatment plans to address underlying causes and improve reproductive outcomes.
Conclusion
Infertility can stem from a myriad of factors affecting both men and women. By understanding the potential causes of infertility and seeking specialized care from a male fertility doctor specialist, couples can embark on a journey towards achieving their dream of parenthood. With advancements in reproductive medicine and personalized treatment approaches, there is hope for overcoming infertility challenges and building a family.

WHAT IS A BABALAWO IN THE IFA TRADITION?
A Babalawo is a male priest in the Ifa tradition. His female counterpart is referred to as an Iyanifa. This individual provides expert advice and service in the Yoruba tradition as he must be highly knowledgeable in its rituals, lore, and history. Someone operating in this role provides spiritual advice and wise counsel to those seeking insight.
The term “Babalawo” can be translated to mean “father of the knowledge of things material and spiritual.” It likewise translates to “father of mysteries” or “father of secrets.” This is because Ifa priests are well-schooled in the knowledge of the Ifa Oracle. As such, they can provide resolute guidance to assist people in their daily affairs.
People consult these individuals when they need assistance with personal health issues, business growth, and fertility and marriage-related concerns. They can help with many life issues, such as illness, financial struggles, and loneliness, and even assist in helping others understand their destinies.
THE ROLE OF A BABALAWO
It is believed that everyone has a destiny written for them before they are born, predetermined in Orun (Heaven). The Babalawo’s role is to provide spiritual guidance and help individuals come to terms with their fate. And he assists them with alleviating challenges along the way.
This individual is considered a bridge between the Divine and humans. These priests provide divination and other services that require high-level communication with the spiritual realm. As such, they must master the Cabalistic or esoteric aspects of the tradition. Doing so grants them access to advanced knowledge and skills in making medicines.
These medicines can cure and prevent physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual disease states. Some of these remedies can be explained through Western medicine. But many of them contain spiritual aspects that are beyond the comprehension of modern-day science. By invoking and evoking spiritual forces, a Babalawo can manifest specific phenomena. He thus liberates individuals from the evils of both material and spiritual realms, known as Ajogun.
WHAT DO BABALAWOS DO?
Ultimately, Babalawos are responsible for initiating divination, interpreting the results, and providing guidance based on their findings. As such, their role does not stop with divination. Instead, they are also educators, mentors, and consultants as they guide people in the customs, beliefs, and wisdom of their ancestors and the Orisas. They are likewise medicine men who serve one of the most important roles in traditional Yoruba society.
DIVINATION
Babalawos are primarily responsible for consulting the Ifá oracle. They have vast knowledge about the 256 odus that form part of the Ifá corpus. This sacred script provides valuable insight into various matters concerning all aspects of life. It speaks to the many situations and challenges that we are all subject to encounter in this lifetime.
In traditional practice, the Holy Odu is the guiding force in a divination session. Ifa adherents are expected to follow whatever guidance is given to them through the Ifa oracle. This may include practical advice on what to do or not to do in certain instances. And it will always include an ebo or a sacrifice to one or more Orisa and ancestral or other spirits.
HERBALISM AND MEDICINE
Though many in the western world focus on the divination aspects of Ifa, herbalism is an integral part of an Ifa priest’s role. This individual prepares medicines prescribed during divination sessions or to be used in religious ceremonies. This is known as Akose or spiritual medicine in the Ifa tradition.
Akose involves the use of herbs, leaves, roots, and sometimes animal parts to produce medicines. Despite the importance of ebo, many people won’t experience relief from their issues without taking these spiritual medicines. These medicines can be in the form of soap, powder, cream, etc. And contrary to modern medicine, Akose can cure practically any illness as well as non-health-related issues such as:
Spiritual attacks
Witchcraft
Barrenness
Marital problems
Safety issues
Legal problems
Financial stress
DESTINY ALIGNMENT
Babalawos are trusted messengers of Orunmila as they work towards helping their clients achieve their highest potential and ultimate destiny. An Ifa priest is a highly-esteemed leader who has a deep understanding of both material and spiritual matters. He embraces and respects all other traditions and religions. As such, he can guide others on how to fulfill their soul mission.
LIVING A BALANCED LIFE
Aside from helping others, a Babalawo must also adhere to the principles of Ifa to be an effective practitioner. Such an individual must show reverence for Ifa guidelines and walk in the way of the tradition. And this individual must meticulously observe the guidelines of Ifa to effectively lead and help others. Above all, a Babalawo must live a life of integrity, honesty, and balance. He must live in harmony with man, nature, and the spiritual world.
REQUIREMENTS FOR BECOMING A BABALAWO
Becoming a Babalawo is not an easy or quick process. Before formally entering the priesthood, a candidate must spend many years learning under the tutelage of an experienced Oluwo or Babalawo. In traditional practice, this process typically begins at birth for those ordained in this profession.
However, becoming a Babalawo typically requires four or more years of rigorous research, practice, and study for individuals who were not born in the tradition. One must spend countless hours under the tutelage of a knowledgeable mentor to become an adept Babalawo.
Becoming a Babalawo also requires initiation into Ifa and further study with experienced elders. The first step of the process includes receiving the Hand of Ifa. Thereafter, the person will visit Igboodu – the sacred Grove of Ifa. This is a place where the formal initiation into Ifa takes place. During this period, the priest-in-training receives the gifts and power that allow them to perform divination and effectively guide others.
If you seek guidance from a skilled Babalawo, learn more about our Ifa divination services.
