I really love gertrude robinson bc how often do you get an older woman character who just really sucks? She sacrifices ppl that trust her. She is so focused on keeping the world from ending that she completely doesn’t notice one of her assistants routinely torturing the others. She dismembered a guy. She does her job badly on purpose. She’s cunning and sneaky. She dares her murderous, immortality seeking boss to kill her. She gets murdered by her murderous, immortality seeking boss. She’s not particularly friendly. She somehow had access to plastic explosives. She’s a manipulator and a liar. She’s bound to the avatar of destruction. She helped a guy get rid of a pig by telling him to put it in conk crete. She is like the opposite of a sweet little grandma and that’s beautiful.

Podcast Interview With Idling in the Impala: "Y/N and Let Y/N…"

Here we go! Sandra and Kasey, the lovely hosts of @idlingintheimpalapodcast — the podcast for all things SPN and fanfiction — invited me on the pod for an interview…

We chatted about Dean Winchester and Jensen Ackles’ early roles, the best and worst seasons of SPN, the joys and pains of writing Soldier Boy, and much, much more.

adam scott says in the "inside the episode" of 2.07 that it allows the audience to "see the magic of gemma and why she immediately took over [mark's] life and his heart" and dichen lachman describes the ep in the severance podcast as "the audience getting to know [gemma] and everyone seeing what mark had that he lost." well, what about gemma? how much do we really get to know her? what did she lose? why did mark take over her heart?

they had 50 minutes for a Gemma Episode and they spent half of it on dead wife tropes and her smiling at mark with come-hither eyes while not giving us a single new fact* about her or a relationship outside of mark and mark's family. a subversion of the dead wife trope is not just scenes later showing they had an imperfect marriage bc mark (or nobody) is the problem in all of those scenes; you need to disrupt the idea that she was the perfect wife, and i don't think we get that. so much of it is explicitly presented through mark's pov. she doesn't hurt him at any point. she's just there being lovely or victimized as he loves or neglects her. everything we learned about her past gives more depth to his current grief but contributes little to our understanding of her current suffering or motivations. that could change with time, but for a first try, i think it's an abysmally bad showing

* that wasn't in mark's 1.07 monologue, his conversations with devon and alexa, or the the you you are pdf, all of which i think did a better job than this episode

january 29th 1992

“i think i love you”, brian says to you, as the confession echoes through the late winter air. his words are pouring out more than he would have hoped. his gaze remained focused on your eyes only, observing your reaction with a mixture of embarrassment and uncertainty. 

he is certainly not the type of highschool teenager to get all shy and nervous around other people but whenever he was around you, brian's demeanor shifted in your presence. he became a gentle and caring soul, a stark contrast to his usual self. from the first day you stepped into high school, he took it upon himself to ensure your well-being, guiding you through the hallways and making sure you found your classes.

the place of confession, in all honesty, isn't ideal. but, it does hold sentimental value – just right outside the back doors of your highschool that had witnessed countless moments between the two of you. from accidental hand touches in the cafeteria line, exchanging silly faces in the hallway and sharing lunches by the football field, this place held a trove of shared memories.

 you always thought to yourself that it was impossible to ever get bored of him. brian had a knack of turning uncomfortable moments into wholesome jokes, gently caressing your shoulder in hopes of making you feel better. everytime he leaves those innocent touches against your skin, you can't help but blush, trying to change the subject as quickly as possible. 

with the help of the cold january breeze nipping against your neck, you snap back to reality. the very boy that you've liked for a year just said the words that you've spent nights fantasizing and giggling against your pillow about. the soft wind tousled his soft brown hair, revealing his furrowed eyebrows, still awaiting for an answer while you were daydreaming.  

a subtle tension lingers in the air between the two of you, like a red string tied to the both of you. brian senses that you felt contemplated in the moment, took a step back, and let you figure out what you were going to say next. he places his hands over his face in complete embarrassment, letting out a nervous laugh and says, “look, i didn't mean to put you on the spot or anything. i just wanted to let you know how i feel for you since i've been sensing some things have changed between the two of us.” 

god! hes sickeningly sweet.

“i.. i never would have expected this,” you say, trying to control your heart from jumping out of your chest. you finally look up to brian to see how beautiful he looks. the winter sun had casted a soft glow on his face, accentuating the sincerity of his brown eyes. 

i wanna kiss him. badly. 

brian, who can't stop smiling, stood in front of you, softly brushing the hair from your face with his fingers. his hands then moved down to your jacket, anxiously playing with the zipper. the awkward silence was filled with unspoken emotions. 

“you know, brian,” you begin softly, “this might sound crazy but, i've been trying to muster those words for the longest time myself.” his lips part gently, waiting to hear what you’ll say next. 

“i love you,” you confessed. his eyes, wide with surprise and joy, met yours, and the entire atmosphere shifted. brian’s mittens, warm against your gentle skin, cupped your cheek. “i've been waiting to hear those words for so long,” brian whispered against your forehead, pressing a kiss against it. 

a moment of hesitation flows through the both of you as your bodies are close against one another. everything is silent except for the sound of the two sounds of breathing and giggles leaving the both of you. he leans in closer to your face, merely inches away. without any needed words, both of your lips met in a kiss. 

you finally feel the lips you've been wanting to kiss ever since the day he lended you his coat when you were feeling a “bit cold”. since the day he held you gently in his arms as you cried in his arms. since the day he “accidentally” kissed your cheek when you accomplished something that you've been wanting. 

since forever.

You’ve been listening to Cecil host the Community Radio since you were a kid

You listen to his broadcasts everyday and even send him fanmail

You’ve always looked up at him, wanted to be like him. It’s only natural that you interview for an intern position at the radio station. They’re always in need of new interns

You’re nervous but you ace the interview and Management likes your resume! At least you think the grunts and shrieks from behind the door sounded pleased

Cecil practically adopts you on your first day at the radio station

Your family life is… not great. So you fall into the role of adopted kid happily, just glad to finally have an adult role model in your life. Maybe that’s why he took to you so much?

Whenever he is not on air, he is teaching you the ropes of journalism and Community Radio. He is not a great teacher but you appreciate it nonetheless

He is absolutely enthralled when you tell him how much of a fan you are and that he inspired you to apply for the internship

Cecil practically squeals, placing a hand on his chest and making a dramatic gasp, “Really?! Well dear Intern, I am just honoured!” he does look really touched, “I cannot wait to show you the ropes of everything! Oh look at me, inspiring the next generation!” you shuffle a bit in front of him, a nervous smile on your face. Later on, as you listen to his broadcast, you hear him tell his listeners about you. He recounts how he himself was inspired by Leonard Burton, and how he is so glad the cycle is continuing. It warms your heart.

Cecil actually finds himself more attached to you than other interns. He essentially becomes your mentor, he even starts talking about you to Carlos!

He is always very dutiful to watch over you when you’re sent out on investigating missions, keeping up with your progress more regularly than he usually would. He is pretty protective of you

He gives you a lot of advice on how to do investigative journalism, and how to keep yourself safe

He really sees himself in you, its part of why he took such a liking to you. He remembers when he was an intern, fumbling with the copy machine and making coffee for Leonard

He hopes you’ll take over as Community Radio host once he retires, he thinks you would run it well

He even introduces you to Khoshekh! You think he is adorable and, although a bit grumbly, Khoshekh rubs against your hand when you pet him. You regularly come and feed him or give him water too

After a few months, maybe even a year, Cecil has fully taken you under his wing. Everyone can see he is very fond of you, you can even hear it in his broadcasts. You’re basically his kid now

You even start coming to him with personal issues, like school or your social life and he is always happy to give you advice!

Sometimes he can be a little pushy or invasive but he doesn’t do it maliciously

You meet Carlos for the first time when he comes drop off Cecil’s lunch that he forgot

Carlos waves Cecil goodbye for now as he steps out of the recording booth, lacking the brown lunch bag he was carrying earlier. You make eye contact across the room as you’re sorting papers, “Oh! Hello!” his eyes scan your badge really quickly and recognition lights up in his eyes, “You must be the intern Cecil is always talking about!” he introduces himself and talks to you with a bright smile. Thanks to Cecil’s stories, he also feels a certain duty, one of protection and mentorship, towards you. He takes his leave soon after to get back to his own workplace.

From then on, Carlos visits for lunch breaks a little more often

He sits with you and Cecil and all three of you eat together, almost like a family

Slowly, you start to get closer to Carlos too. You guys taken longer to bond than you and Cecil, but aren’t any less close regardless

He is just as protective of you as Cecil and just as much of a mentor. He gives you advice on school, your social life and even helps you with homework sometimes!

The more reasonable and down to earth of the two, he worries for you more than Cecil does. He doesn’t think a teenage intern should be sent out on so many investigative missions

He also worries more about your home life than Cecil does, sometimes questioning you about a slightly strange anecdote about your family

Unlike Cecil, he knows not to push too deep into your private life. Unless he thinks it is a genuine danger

He talks to you, and Cecil, about his very important scientist work, which Cecil and you both agree is a bit ridiculous sometimes

(Mountains? Really Carlos?)

Carlos sits with you and helps you study, sometimes at their house, sometimes at the station. He’s very patient and explains a topic as many times as you need it

In return for the help on your studies, you try your best to explain Carlos the history of the town and the culture. He doesn’t really get it. But he tries his best!

The two even introduce Esteban to you once they adopt him. You consider him a younger brother. Its not long before they start taking you along on family excursions with Esteban

Going to the local fair? You’re coming along. Cecil’s niece has a game? You best bet they’ve got a ticket for you too

Eventually, you’re in your final year of highschool, facing graduation. So, you decide to invite Carlos and Cecil to your graduation!

Cecil and Carlos file in with the rest of the parents into the auditorium. They sit on the fold out chairs and watch excitedly as the ceremony starts. They’re both so proud of how far you have come, how much you have been through. As you walk on the stage to accept your diploma, your eyes drift to them, a huge smile on your face as you spot them. They’re both clapping, Cecil is cheering for you too. You’re pretty sure he’s also crying but you don’t want to push it. As they watch you enter this new phase of your life, they look at eachother in silent agreement; blood or not, you’re their kid. And they’ll be there for you in the next phases of your life too.
