Ettore is strong enough to have lived this long without succumbing to his shadow, strong enough to drink and fuck and carouse without succumbing; Marcus was strong enough to match Justice, the strongest in the Hall, and Cyprian was not only on track to be better than both of them but also was strong enough to resist TDK's direct and intentional control of his shadow right after receiving it

Ettore is a foil for Cyprian in the narrative, the character that directly challenges his beliefs and emphasizes his strengths and weaknesses through contrast and comparison; he is a cautionary tale of what Cyprian would become if he lost the faith and sense of duty that is essential to his character, which makes perfect sense of [functionally] a deadbeat dad introduced late in his son's life during a time of emotional crisis and change

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but Cyprian's name has a very interesting archaic meaning. 🫢 Cyprian used to be a word for a prostitute, a lewd woman, or a harlot. As an adjective, it could mean licentious, lewd, and wanton. The word came from Cyprus, the island where Aphrodite, Goddess of Love (and Lust, Pleasure, Beauty, Passion, Sex, Desire, etc.), was worshipped. The word's first known use was in 1819, which is around the time period Dark Rise and Dark Heir take place in.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read the name Cyprian was Saint Cyprian of Carthage. I thought that connection to early Catholicism made sense for Cyprian because of the quasi-religious order characteristics of the Stewards. St. Cyprian's martyrdom also made me think of the Stewards' own martyrdom after they drink from the Cup.

But, this other meaning adds an intriguing possible layer to Cyprian. Cyprian's name could potentially be connected, symbolically, to Christianity/Catholicism and, also, to the worship of Aphrodite 🤔. Piety, Celibacy, & Martyrdom vs. Sex, Pleasure, and Love. This also potentially adds an interesting layer to Cyprian's interactions with Ettore and their "conversations" about prostitutes. It's very, very interesting. Also, to note, while this specific meaning of Cyprian is archaic and obsolete, it does come up as some of the first results if you Google search "Cyprian meaning." Knows what a kiss is, indeed.

[FASCIAL ANATOMY - OSTEOPATHIC APPROACH]

This post and illustrations are an amazing follow up to my previous post about the pericardium and connection to neck pain.

The heart (1) has obvious importance for sustaining life but it has a lesser known connection to the more “orthopedic” problems commonly seen amongst patients. Specifically, the fascial outer layering called the pericardium is directly connected to multiple tissues in the thorax and spine.

On the anterior is the connection to the sternum (2) via the superior and inferior sternopericardiac ligaments (3,4). Superiorly, the link is the cervico-pericardiac ligament (5), which is connected to the deep cervical fascia (green) and houses the trunk of the brachio-cephalic vein (6). Inferiorly, the pericardium directly connects to the diaphragm (7). Lastly, and perhaps most interesting, is the posterior-superior connection to the cervical spine. The Vertebro-pericardiac ligament (8) directly connects the heart to the anterior aspects of C6 and C7.

Tension on bones is not just muscular, but can be from visceral connections such as this. Tension in this tissue can contribute the anterior translation and sheer forces in the vertebrae and discs. This raises the question why we see so much degeneration, disc herniation and pain at the lower cervical spine. Perhaps a direct connection of cervical problems to poor breathing patterns? Maybe we can positively influence the heart via the neck as therapists? The anatomical LINKS provide us the possibilities!

Pelvis and pelvic triangles of balance, from the Human Architecture series. I once heard, “If it is in the pelvis, it is everywhere.” My immediate reaction was disagreement, but as I sit with this statement a bit more, I find some truth. Our center of gravity and balance is at about the level of the navel or top of sacrum/bottom of spine depending on individual proportions. So it seems to me that if your relationship to gravity is unbalanced, this statement that “it is everywhere,” has some validity…meaning your entire system and its #fascial connections from head to toe are in a state of balanced imbalance (aka compensation). Turns out the repair I did held a lot better than we thought, nothing actually broke this time. The repaired fin had just the slightest bit more flex in it than the others and apparently that caused something to rattle then jam. It just needed another bit of slapped-together-out-of-garbage stability. In the form of some random metal crap and more epoxy. If it works it works.

So I sat here cooking in my room for days and days because my dad had ordered a replacement fan that ended up being the wrong size anyway, and I had actually effectively already saved my own ass again
