As one parasocial critic friend said, I have no dog in this fight: I like the Bob Dylan song in this movie and maybe 2-5 more, and that's what I got for ya vis-à-vis Dylan investment. But I like when things are interesting, and as another parasocial critic friend said, Dylan is nearly the antagonist of his own biopic in this, and that is interesting! As she also said, correctly, the version that goes full Miloš Forman's Amadeus OWNS BONES, and this is not that, but that frisson there between Bob and everyone else definitely makes the proceedings more engaging than they could be otherwise. It is also I believe a big part of what makes it so funny.

Is A Complete Unknown "accurate"? Who knows, not me. Does it include multiple moments of women or Pete Seeger watching awestruck and/or annoyed as Dylan noodles out one of his songs? Oh you bet. Did the two and a quarter hours fly by? Honestly yeah.

And I think the main thing I missed mentioning in my initial Letterboxd review, is that there really is a mysteriously compelling quality to the musical performances in this. There is something going on with the way James Mangold shot them, maybe that everyone sung live? Something in the editing? Not sure. But it's nice.

The other thing I missed is just how much Now, Voyager is in this.

screaming into the sun will the execubot 4000 they presumably have in charge of programming decisions at netflix these days please fucking renew dead boy detectives already??? 😫 i want to write a spec for it, but i'm tired of putting weeks of work into a thing that instantly becomes useless when the show gets axed before i can even attempt to do anything with it.

(also dead boy detectives should get a second season because it's a damn good show and one of very few series currently filling the fantasy/horror niche among hybrid-procedurals in a seemingly endless sea of fucking cop shows. but right now i want the renewal for entirely selfish reasons.)

Smiling Friends is a good show, actually probably one of the more interesting cartoons out there right now, but watching that shit off an edible is utterly indescribable. It feels like some sort of cosmic extra-dimensional monkey is combing its fingers through my brain. I know people say that aqua teen is the weed show but no. SF comes at you so hard and fast sometimes it leaves you genuinely stunned for a moment.

To the Xaela of the Horo tribe such as Cuuja, being overweight in such a harsh environment as the Steppe is a sign of wellbeing, strength and even beauty.

As a Danshig Naadam regular, eating specifically large quantities to bulk is an important part of Cuuja's training each day followed by a harsh routine of strength training as he uses his weight against his opponents in combat, so maintaining his musculature is key. Much like one should not misjudge the hippo for its soft exterior, thick layers of muscle are hidden beneath and a wise man does not anger a Horo.

a lil note about muses on here!! i’m going to reduce the amount of muses on my roster, removing characters i rarely use. this may include muses that we write together, but please don’t worry!! i’ll still write these muses with my partners who currently have dynamics with them; they will just no longer be available to the general public and will not be listed on my roster.

i’ll be honest and let y’all know that my focus has drifted away from kny a great deal, and that will be reflected when i edit my roster. most kny muses will be moved to the tertiary list, removed, or reworked for another fandom. i apologize bc i know this will be disappointing for some of you, but i need to make some changes so this blog feels neater and more accurately reflects where my interest lies. i don’t think this comes as a surprise tbh? but still i know it’s not what some people want to hear.

all that said, i do understand if you want to break mutuals — no hard feelings whatsoever!! but i hope we can figure out new dynamics and continue having fun smushing our dorks together if you stick around 💜
