bum bags
Tumblr media
For my first post on my ~*fashUn Bl0g*~ I would like to bring to you some content on my ATTICA BUM BAG by Alexander Wang. I was initially extremely skeptical about bum bags and actually really turned off by them - I felt like their shape made them look like underwear or a sanitary napkin or something equally as unpleasant. However, this Attica bag caught my eye and stayed firmly rooted in the back of my mind due to its amazing supple leather, shiny nickel hardware, oversized chain detail, and perfect shape/proportions. It sort of has a really classic, simple design that reminds me of fanny packs my aunts wore when I was a small child, and enhances that silhouette with the gleaming hardware and adds a touch of edge with that piece of extra-large chain. I really cannot stress enough how beautiful the leather is on this bag. It’s sturdy, a bit shiny, thick, and wonderfully soft to the touch. This impactful mixture of its stellar quality, under-the-radar shape and these subtle but edgy details made it a firm contender for a waist bag purchase for me despite my initial dislike of the bum bag as a whole, and served as the catalyst to change my mind entirely on the matter. After being out of stock for nearly a year, I managed to snag one when they came back into stock after apparently being reworked to incorporate an even higher quality leather.
Tumblr media
I absolutely love the way the large chain detail amps up any ratty gross outfit you might be wearing (as I pretty much always am on my off days) without looking too obvious or overt. Somehow, for me, the chain blends in PERFECTLY with my (bummy af or otherwise) outfit without standing out too much, and pulls everything together. I always feel like I look so much better when I’m wearing it.
Another great point is that it can be worn two ways: over your shoulder (like pictured above) or across the chest like a front-wearing sling. As a shoulder bag, the bag almost changes shape into an entirely unrecognizable silhouette with a partial chain strap, which looks amazing. As a sling bag, I love how this bum bag maintains its subtlety, as opposed to nearly every other belt bag on the market right now that seems to incorporate lurid colors or logos and draw attention to itself. The crossbody bum bag offers just enough quirk to add interest to your look, but the solid black leather and simple shape keep the entire mixture on the more classic side, with the addition of some small edgy details. F*cking perfection.
Tumblr media
As you can probably gather, I have been enjoying the hell out of my Attica bag and have been wearing it any time I don’t need a big bag to haul my headphones and snacks to work. The interior capacity is a great small size for downsizing to the essentials only, and to be honest it’s worth it for this cute delicious bag. The amalgamation of all its perfect details, the sumptuous construction, hardware, and features, make it the most amazing addition to all my casual outfits and is exemplary of one of my favorite (American!) designers, Alexander Wang, whom I have loved for YEARS since the days of the Rocco bag (which is now discontinued! :( ). His designs are always an impeccable blend of edge, quality, roughness and grace that always speak perfectly to my personal tastes. If you’re on the fence about this bag or bum bags in general, I hope this helped you with your decision, or in any case, I hope you enjoyed reading! :^)
