How did Eugénie die?

Eugénie (Alastor's mom) fell seriously ill. She gradually withered away and suffered from very severe pain. In the last months, all she could do was lie in bed. While she was slowly dying, her husband was slowly going "mad". Fell into greater despair. She was prescribed morphine as a painkiller. One day her husband couldn't take it anymore, how she suffered in pain, and when it came time to give her painkillers, he purposely increased the dosage, causing an overdose and she eventually died.

So Evie and I were talking last night about Thanksgiving & how to mark what food on the table is vegan and what isn't.

And we came up with the idea of using one set of china for the vegan food and another for the non-vegan food - including people's plates, so it's very easy to know what's what when the tables get loaded down with food.

But some things aren't going to get served in the china, so we went looking for a solution, and this is what I found:

So like, we have the china that Evie inherited from her grandma and the stuff I inherited from my grandmother, right?

So anyone who is eating vegan can use a plate from my set, for example, and all the vegan dishes go in those serving dishes.

But on the dessert table, the vegan cobbler gets marked with a kitty paw print, bc I'm not gonna be taking the cobbler out of the dish that it's baked in.

They're reusable - I didn't want to be throwing out a bunch of bamboo food flags after every big family meal. They don't rely on text or color, and they're very cute.

And? They were $6.

I'm actually really proud of myself for this.

My oldest sister, Pam, was sorting through my sprinkles, trying to pick out which jumbo jimmies to decorate her cookies with, and Mom leaned over and was like

"Do you know how they make those?"

Referring to the metallic jumbo jimmies. You know, these:

And Pam was like "... no?"

And mom whispered conspiratorially, "There's spaghetti in the middle! They build the sugar around it!"

And Pam was like "WHAT"

And I was all proud cuz like. Mom knows that cuz of me. I told her about weird sprinkle shit. And she thought that was neat enough to tell Pam. Sprinkles are so neat :)

Even when I was a kid my parents would tell me to get ready to go and then stand around talking for an hour.

The other day I told my dad how I had spoken to my older sister that morning and he asked “Oh, how is she doing?” to which I responded “We didn’t really talk about that. We talked about the impact of agriculture on humanity.”

"Did you know that powered flight evolved independently 4 separate times?"

And I was like

"Oh! Yeah I know this uhm - birds, bats, bugs aaaaand... no, wait, flying snakes glide that's not true flight uhmm..."

"It's -"

"NO DON'T TELL ME UHHHHH - PTERODACTYLS! Flying reptiles!"

And he was like, yeah, that's right!

Overcoming family trauma doesn't have to end up with starting a family of one's own.

No, sometimes you can be BOTH traumatized by the parental abuse and UNWILLING to bring up a child...not because of said abuse, although it sure made you cynical towards the whole concept of parenthood, but - wait for it - simply because you don't find the prospect of childrearing (and all the sacrifices which come with it) fulfilling in the slightest.

You can be both weary with your family trauma and not at all fond of kids. Being a survivor of childhood abuse isn't the only reason for willingful childlessness, and breeding isn't some golden standard for being reunited with Society.

Some people have healed and now they just want to live for themselves. The might've had to wait until their 20s or 30s in order to be able to do so.

And for them, that's a happy ending.

side note: all male kryptonians have one sylabel name: kal jor and zor plue its always attached with the last name -el while the women are two sylabel kara and lara without the last name
