So Evie and I were talking last night about Thanksgiving & how to mark what food on the table is vegan and what isn't.

And we came up with the idea of using one set of china for the vegan food and another for the non-vegan food - including people's plates, so it's very easy to know what's what when the tables get loaded down with food.

But some things aren't going to get served in the china, so we went looking for a solution, and this is what I found:

So like, we have the china that Evie inherited from her grandma and the stuff I inherited from my grandmother, right?

So anyone who is eating vegan can use a plate from my set, for example, and all the vegan dishes go in those serving dishes.

But on the dessert table, the vegan cobbler gets marked with a kitty paw print, bc I'm not gonna be taking the cobbler out of the dish that it's baked in.

They're reusable - I didn't want to be throwing out a bunch of bamboo food flags after every big family meal. They don't rely on text or color, and they're very cute.

And? They were $6.

I'm actually really proud of myself for this.

The other day I told my dad how I had spoken to my older sister that morning and he asked “Oh, how is she doing?” to which I responded “We didn’t really talk about that. We talked about the impact of agriculture on humanity.”

When I catsat for my Dad recently, I noticed that although Char's outer coat was well-groomed, his undercoat was tangled and beginning to form mats. And I KNOW my Dad brushes him regularly, but clearly the brush he was using was not doing the job

I tried to brush Char a bit myself with our slicker/undercoat wire brush, but he didn't know and trust me enough to let me do it for long.

So when Dad helped us out the next week by driving us and our boys to the vet, I dragged him into the nearby pet shop afterwards and got a proper undercoat brush for Char, with Dad complaining and bitching the whole time that it was fine and he didn't need it and I didn't have to blah blah

That was a few weeks ago. Today Dad came over for the Sunday family Tim Hortons run, and he says to me

"Hey, that brush you got for Char? It really works!!"

"Oh yeah? When he was here I noticed his undercoat was pretty tangled-"

"Not anymore! His coat is great now!"

And I am still just beaming. I helped the kitty :) kitty not tangled now :) :)

Overcoming family trauma doesn't have to end up with starting a family of one's own.

No, sometimes you can be BOTH traumatized by the parental abuse and UNWILLING to bring up a child...not because of said abuse, although it sure made you cynical towards the whole concept of parenthood, but - wait for it - simply because you don't find the prospect of childrearing (and all the sacrifices which come with it) fulfilling in the slightest.

You can be both weary with your family trauma and not at all fond of kids. Being a survivor of childhood abuse isn't the only reason for willingful childlessness, and breeding isn't some golden standard for being reunited with Society.

Some people have healed and now they just want to live for themselves. The might've had to wait until their 20s or 30s in order to be able to do so.

And for them, that's a happy ending.

One of my favourite tropes I love seeing in fanfic is the Batfam kids acting like siblings

- never letting each other forget about the stupid shit they had done. Dick thought he was in the clear for a while until Jason came back and boy did he have stories for the younger kids.

- calling each other names but instantly getting defensive if someone out of the family does that. (You don’t get to call my brother/sister that, only I do because they’re my family)

- circling the wagons when someone has an issue. Big or small, they all get together to murder board it out.

- having competitions over the stupidest things

- full on Lilo and Nani arguments on the stairs

- annoying each other

The things you can play with are endless.

My mom has serious control issues or separation anxiety or something

I love her very much and we generally get along, but since I started cardiac rehab I've been going out more, finding excuses to go on walks to try to meet my cardio exercise quota

And every time she heard the side door (my door) open, she'd text me like, 'Are you going out? Walking the cat? Going to the store?"

And it was driving me nuts, I am nearly 40 there is no need to interrogate me every time I leave the house, I can go where I want

So one day last week she was texting asking where I was going on my walk and all I replied with was 'nope' and refused to elaborate. Then she asked me about it at Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, and I said

"Look. You don't need to know every detail of where I go and what I do" which probably was not the best way to say it but I was getting super annoyed

Today Jon and I went for a walk and grabbed takeout for dinner cuz we didn't feel like cooking, and again, I need to walk as much as I can

Mom TEXTED JON TO ASK WHERE I WAS GOING. He told her he didn't know.

Like. I really feel like I'm being monitored in an uncomfortable way and I don't know how to broach the subject with her. If I am going somewhere interesting I'll tell you! But I am usually just going for a walk or to a doctor's appointment!! Why do you need to know!!!!

It's not like I'm going hiking alone in Death Valley or something dangerous or foolish! I'm walking to Wendy's! I have my phone and purse and usually my husband with me and I am fine and you don't have to track my every movement!! Aaaaaaa!!!
