(Episode 10 of DR spoilers)
Wow...
Tumblr media
This... This whole scene from start to finish was just... God damn...
Genuinely lost for words, this is such a good finale for part 1.
Tumblr media
Well, this totally doesn't have any horrifying implications... No seriously what the fuck happened here, it show us that they're literally all dead, and I don't know if this is my eyes playing trick on me it looks like that some of the masks are repeating, like I see what looks to be 2 Lloyd masks, am I the only one or what?
Sidenote:
Lloyd and Zane scene, my life is complete, thank you writers.

Scrolling the tag and just cackling at the amount of people who think Lestat is out for revenge.
It’s honestly so much fun to see people reacting to the story who don’t know what’s going on. 💖

gomez!master is by far the best one of nuwho and I will NOT hear otherwise. she feels so much like delgado!master in that her motivations are not exclusively world domination. even before her redemption arc in s10, she has a complex agenda of her own and sometimes that means her goals align with those of the doctor’s. i love seeing the master team up with companions it’s my absolute favorite thing. her dynamic with clara is absolutely fascinating and i find the “i want my friend back” motivation to be five million times more interesting than the “i want to Destroy You Forever” motivation or whatever it was that dhawan!master had going on

the "i created my own narrative in my head and now i'm mad when canon doesn't meet my exact expectations" gang when they find out The Writers are just regular employees with executive interference, targets, and objectives just like coders, animators, sfx artists, etc, and not some shadowy cabal of malicious entities who have conspired to write something that You, Specifically do not like

Oh you know what's interesting. When TV writers are writing (as many oft forget) they are balancing the needs of the story and characters, and the perceptions and interests of almost two entirely different audiences. The fans and the general audience. Because those are two different writing goals- if you are entirely for one you'll isolate the other and then everyone suffers.
If you follow the wims of fandom you often don't let the story breath and grow organically and may become too niche for the general audience (affecting funding).
But if you Only write for general audiences- the most advertiser friendly demographic - then you are (imo) degrading the art of story.
So the writers have to balance those two elements. (A show runner is good when they know how to balance those things: allowing the story to grow organically and commit to the story you want to tell)

Snook is the best. I’m so glad she gave you the episodes to watch because I need to say this lol.
This might be a mouthful, but this episode hit me more than other episodes, so enjoy my rambling lol:
A Soda to Remember was exactly the kick in the teeth this show needed. What a fun and very heartfelt way to set a new storyline in motion. I had problems with season 1 and was worried season 2 would have similar problems, but man, I was wrong. I loved these first few episodes and the ending of A Soda to Remember certified that. Easily the most heartfelt moment of TGAMM so far imo and just thinking about the possiblities, just thinking about after scratching the surface (heheheheee shaddup) moves me to tears. Gravity Falls had Stan’s brother, DuckTales had Della, Amphibia had **rolls out list**, The Owl House had Flapjack, TGAMM….it has a soda bottle. What amazing writing. Rambling over lol.
You are so right anon, Snook is the best <3 And because I'm shameless, I'm plugging their blog @the5n00k. Go look at their soul-shattering take on Corrupted!Scratch and weep with me!
I always enjoy rambling! I agree, A Soda to Remember was an extremely well-done episode not only in terms of writing and character development, but also the pacing. You could tell the episode was winding to a close when Sharon caught Molly talking about the heist, you could tell there wasn't much time left. It could've been so easy to end the episode there, to give the fans a taste of how Scratch felt about his own life and then only bring it up again in the penultimate episodes a la the Misery Meter in season 1.
But that last minute. That last minute of the episode blossomed into a complete paradigm shift. Somehow, they managed to cram enough potent emotion into a single minute of animation to spawn theories and analysis essays and so so many pieces of wonderful art/fic. Something has transformed in the baseline of the show with this revelation, the pool has deepened in one dizzying vacuum that no one could have feasibly predicted. In episode three.
Damn, the writers astound me with every turn. A minute!! And there isn't even much dialogue!!!
(Also, it's high time to shout out the musical team too, that little piano riff as the closing title comes up gets me every friggin time)

“The only thing that matters is if the guy is there for you when you need him” says Nick to Jess
as he’s there for her

#one of the things i have loved so much about falling headfirst into this lone star obsession is just.... this show is full of poc#full of it#most of the main cast is people of color like i don't even know how to articulate what that means to me#none of the other shows i've watched in so long can say that#and it's just like#every time grace and tommy have a scene or marjan gets a storyline or nancy is on my fucking screen i'm emotional#especially grace and tommy like seeing how much time the writers have dedicated to their friendship it's just like#usually shows will have like one woc and she'll mostly be treated like shit#this show has four amazing beautiful spectacular women that are just like. everything to me#and paul carlos and mateo also just#believe me i do wish screentime was more balanced between all of the characters but even this is so much#because it's really truly rare#something i've wanted for a very long time is shows w poc in the main cast where the storylines aren't just about racism or racial trauma#i fully understand the need for those stories but sometimes it gets exhausting and painful bc we are so much more than that#so these characters playing first responders just getting to see them excel at their jobs and bring good into the world is just like#idk it's a lot lol#basically i am just very happy with it#i have three more eps to watch and i'm trying to stretch them out to make it till january bc i know i'll miss this show sm#it may also just be hitting me harder bc i've spent the past couple years watching glee and. well. woc are treated like shit there lmfao#so this is the biggest breath of fresh air and i think i really needed it lol#neha rambles

Really disliking this TBH.
Going to be real clear here: fanfic isn't a business. It doesn't pay my groceries EVER. Also if I were like Harry Styles, I would wipe my tears over low engagement with wads of dollar bills. Boohoo.
Fanfic is written for readers, not consumers. We're writing stories, not content. We are fans, not self-marketting gurus.
Reader interaction is the CURRENCY I wish to be paid with.
If I'm not going to get my due because everyone wants to read my shit but nobody wants to talk to me about it, then FINE, I will also drop my account and go write into the silence, except then I'll send the result to a publishing house and cry into my empty fists when they reject me, but that way if I get lucky Y'all actually will pay real life money to read my stuff and I'll buy groceries from writing at last.
Fandom is supposed to be an ecosystem. If you're seeing it crumbling, it's probably because a part of it is caving. And let me tell you, writers come in with stuff already done. Same as artist. The work has already been put in. Then they get disappointed, feel ignored or used, then they leave. Once they post a story they've done their role, and spent hours or days or weeks, fuck some spend months working on their project.
Interacting with it silently is just readers failing to be good *fans*. Sue me or block me for thinking this, IDC. We're in this together and by the time you finish a fic, the author has done their part and now it's your turn to bloody do yours!!
I'm following this super cute fic atm and it has 3 chapters, 29 kudos, and I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHO EVER COMMENTED ON IT..!!! Ashamed for the 28 other people! Poor author was so obviously relieved by my comment it made me upset!
People go around saying 'writers don't owe us fic and readers don't owe them comments' and I disagree. I think you do. If you're gonna read that fic and love it you actually owe a kudo and a comment. It's your role in the ecosystem. It's the oil that keeps the wheels turning.
When people say "I read fic to decompress and I'm too tired to comment" it makes me want to scream. I come home tired from work and I spend my decompression hours writing fic for you and you're too tired to type "Thank you for writing this" in the box at the end? Wish I could block you from interacting with my stuff so you couldn't ever give me another silent hit.
I’ve seen five different authors take down, or prepare to take down, their posted works on Ao3 this week.  At the same time, I’ve seen several people wishing there was more new content to read.  I’ve also seen countless posts by authors begging for people to leave comments and kudos.
People tell me I am a big name fan in my chosen fandom.  I don’t quite get that but for the purposes of this post, let’s roll with it.  On my latest one shot, less than 18% of the people who read it bothered to hit the kudos button.  Sure, okay, maybe that one sort of sucked.  Let’s look at the one shot posted before that - less than 16% left kudos.  Before that - 10%, and then 16%.  I’m not even going to get into the comments.  Let’s just say the numbers drop a lot.  I’m just looking at one shots here so we don’t have to worry about multiple hits from multiple chapters, people reading previous chapters over, etc.  And if I am a BNF, that means other people are getting significantly less kudos and comments.
Fandom is withering away because it feels like people don’t care about the works that are posted.  Why should I go to the trouble of posting my stories if no one reads them, and of the people who do read them, less than a fifth like them?  Even if you are not a huge fan of the story, if it kept your attention long enough for you to get to the bottom, go ahead and mash that kudos button.  It’s a drop of encouragement in a big desert.
TL;DR: Passively devouring content is killing fandom.

New Scotland Yard: A Case of Prejudice (2.2, LWT, 1972)
"Now, what about this audience - do you know any of them?"
"A lot of them, some of them are friends of mine, they live in the street."
"Black and white or... all black?"
"Both, black and white. That's what this is all about, right?"
"That's what what's all about?"
"This place, this street, this district, this killing."
"Tell me what you mean by that, please."
"This was a community venture; I spent ten years in this district trying to get people together: black and white, together. That's what my play's all about, right? Simple people power. Look, my play says that white power is finished, but there is always a chance that -"
"I don't think we want to go into politics, Mr. Buckingham."
"No, go on, please."
"You don't want to go into it? But that is why Charlie was killed!"
#new scotland yard#a case of prejudice#oliver horsbrugh#stuart douglass#alun falconer#john woodvine#john carlisle#rudolph walker#charles hyatt#mark heath#ian gelder#colin rix#antonia pemberton#allan surtees#vic hunter#a proper Issue Episode‚ as the team investigates the murder of a black man with ties to an agitprop theatre group. the language‚ attitudes#and depiction of minorities is not perfect‚ i won't even suggest that‚ but for British tv made in 1972 this does a fairly good job and you#can tell its heart is in broadly the right place (no doubt thanks to co writer Falconer‚ whose CV is littered with socially conscious work#for both tv and film‚ including the excellent brit b movie The Man Upstairs). Woodvine's Chief Supt. Kingdom comes down firmly on the side#of the angels‚ delivering several angry monologues about racism‚ injustice and hate; it's nice to see but not entirely convincing (no shade#on Woodvine‚ but as one character points out‚ the UK police force of 1972 was hardly winning awards in its handling of racial inequality)#Carlisle... sigh. perhaps predictably by now‚ his subordinate of course takes the oppositional seat and acts‚ if not with naked racism‚#then with clear and obviously signalled prejudice. bf caught some of this and is at a loss to understand the point of the character; what i#the audience meant to make of him etc. it's a good question‚ and he remains a largely unlikeable‚ needlessly contrary figure#there have been hints in a few episodes that the relationship between the leads is perhaps meant to be one of teacher and student#and a prev ep had a coded reference to Woodvine being notably older than Carlisle (actually he was just 6 yrs older but the prematurely#grey hair always aged him a little). but if Carlisle is meant to be learning from Woodvine‚ then why does he never actually learn anything?#he always comes back just as objectionable and difficult and unpleasant as the previous episode. oh also shout out to Rudolph Walker#already known as a comedy actor by this point‚ but electrifying here as the moderate voice of black activism being gradually pushed to a#more militant stance by the ceaseless abuse of racist hate groups and the disinterest of law enforcement

I don't think stories about vampires do enough with the horror potential of them needing to be invited into someone's home.
Like, a vampire fooling the protagonist or one of their friends into inviting them in, only to reveal that they're evil and now have full access to their home.
A vampire who waits outside the protagonist's home, meaning they're functionally imprisoned in their own house with dwindling resources, unable to even order things to the house because the vampire could just kill anyone approaching.
Just...there's so much you could do with that
