Zara Tindall’s best friend to be appointed as lady in waiting to the Princess Royal
NHS midwife Dolly Maude, who delivered Tindall child on bathroom floor, previously wore joky ‘lady in waiting’ badge on day at the races
By Camilla Tominey for the Daily Telegraph
She once turned up to the races with her best friend Zara Tindall wearing a playful badge bearing the words ‘Lady in Waiting’.
A spokesman for the royal was later forced to clarify: “It was a joke. Zara doesn’t have any sort of lady in waiting.”
But now Dolly Maude, an NHS nurse who helped to deliver Mrs Tindall’s third child, Lucas, on the bathroom floor at her Gatcombe Park home in 2021, has been well and truly welcomed into the royal fold.
Despite the high jinks at Cheltenham last January, the 51-year-old mother of four has been appointed as a lady in waiting to Mrs Tindall’s mother, the Princess Royal.
The Telegraph understands that Buckingham Palace will announce the appointment in the Court Circular on Feb 1, when Mrs Maude will be revealed as one of four newly appointed ladies in waiting to the King’s sister, to replace others who have retired.
Tumblr media
A lady in waiting is an attendant to a female member of the Royal family who acts as a companion on royal engagements as well as helping with their day-to-day duties.
Mrs Maude was maid of honour when the Princess Royal’s daughter married Mike Tindall, in 2011, and helped to deliver Lucas when his birth did not quite go to plan.
Mr Tindall described the birth on his The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast, saying: “Fortunately Zara’s friend Dolly is, she’s actually more important than I am at making sure she’s been at all three of my children’s births. She was there and recognised that we wouldn’t have got to the hospital in time, so it was run into the gym, get a mat, get into the bathroom, towels down, brace brace brace!”
One of Mrs Maude’s friends said: “She’s such a great girl. For the Princess Royal, it’s a perfect fit because of their shared love of dogs and horses.
“She’s not only extremely close to Zara, she also gets on brilliantly with the Princess. She’s fiercely loyal and discreet. It’s a great match.”
Tumblr media
Mrs Maude and her husband Chris have four children. Billy, 26, attended Swansea University; Nell, 24, studied at the Central School of Ballet; Ted, 17, is, like his mother, a keen skier. He was a page boy at the Tindall wedding and Mrs Tindall is his godmother. Their youngest daughter, Mary, 15, is studying for her GCSEs.
Mrs Maude is occasionally spotted looking after Mrs Tindall’s children Mia, who turns 10 this month, five-year-old Lena and Lucas, at equestrian events.
Three years ago it was revealed that the Princess Royal, who carries out the second highest number of royal engagements a year after the monarch, had 11 ladies in waiting, two of whom had worked for Her Royal Highness for more than 50 years, three for more than 40 years, and five for more than 30 years.
Traditionally, ladies in waiting would be the wives or daughters of peers but they can also be a cousin or close friend.
When Queen Elizabeth II died, it was announced that Queen Camilla would not have ladies in waiting but instead be attended by Queen’s “companions”, and that their role would be much more informal.

can i ask you what do you think about using references? i always do my own sketch from a ref first, then put the ref underneath the sketch and modify it in places where it differs the most. if i only compare my sketch to the ref by putting them next to each other, i can't find all the worst mistakes... but it feels like cheating. is it cheating? sorry jskdkdjd
there's no such thing as cheating in art. i frequently use references like you describe as a way to learn to draw a new thing. for practice i use a lot of equestrian videos, i pause the video at a random spot and trace. then next time i pause i don't trace. then i try to draw from memory. sometimes (for personal art i don't post online) when I just want to paint something mindlessly because i can't listen to podcasts any other way, i trace to get a pose down asap and then colour. it's fun. i don't think anyone's obliged to do more if having fun is their goal
tracing over references should be treated as a study of the subject - you gotta learn what exactly you are drawing, why the clothing folds like that, how that joint flexes, what the shadows are doing. like actually think hard about it instead of just copying an outline. do it to gain insight. when i was seriously studying horses earlier this year i would pause my video and then trace over the animal but without the skin on top, drawing major muscle groups from a different reference (veterinary anatomy posters are your friend) onto the more dynamic pose from the video. this way i could figure out the anatomy from different perspectives (some of these studies are on my ko-fi with the traced ones clearly labelled). so yeah i think it's a fine way to learn and it's really rewarding when you can take the training wheels off and draw your subject without any help but a reference image in another tab (not on your canvas) you flick over to occasionally. if you can't see the mistakes in your sketch this way, it's not a bad thing it just means you need to study more with analytical purpose, gain insight, and you'll get it eventually there's no rush

Hihi! Club and Pet Peeves for any of yours!!
Oooh, interesting! Thank you for the ask!
Club: Which club does your twst OC join and why? Is there anything memorable about the club fair day/their first day at the club? Which clubmate is their favorite?
Ren- Board Games Club, initially to see if it was an avenue to talk with Idia, but also because he wanted to see if anyone else shared an interest in strategy games. Nothing particularly memorable about his first day at the club or about club fair day. Idia is easily his favorite club mate, and by contrast he has beef with Azul that leads to them really getting competitive with one another in the most catty, passive-aggressive ways.
Copper- Track & Field, at Vil's suggestion that it may really help him get healthier and improve his athleticism. Nothing memorable about club fair day, though his first day at the club was him being all nerves and nobody else thinking it was a big deal; he often takes comfort from that when he thinks back on it. Hard to say if he has a favorite club mate! He ends up with pretty decent friendships with Deuce, Jack and your Kingsley, so it's hard to pick faves when he considers all his club mates to be pretty cool!
Chrys- Back when he attended NRC, he was in the former Blastcycle Club! Unfortunately, it was the accident that resulted in the loss of his left leg that ultimately got the club permanently disbanded.
Bertrand "Rand" Anatole- he attends RSA, and he's in their Fencing Club!
Toussaint "Tea" Anatole- he's in a couple of different clubs at RSA, but he has yet to tell me which ones. ._.;;
Marianne "Mari" Anatole- she attends Dame Rose University for Young Ladies (my all-girls fan school) and she's in their Equestrian Club!
Felix and Aurelian Pondicliff- both of them also attend RSA, and they're in RSA's Film Studies Club! Getting to meet and talk to Neige pretty casually about his experience with film versus some of the other angles they have studied was a huge highlight of their club fair day.
Pet peeves: What are your twst OC's pet peeves and which one in the cast accidentally (or not) commit the "crimes"? How will your twst OC deal with that person?
Hmm... Difficult to say for some of them. A lot of Copper's "pet peeves" are more indicative of aspects of his trauma and PTSD, so it doesn't feel entirely fair to put that under the spotlight.
Can a person be a pet peeve? Because not much gets to Ren, but boy does Rook distress him just by Rook being himself. Ren will vacate the area ASAP if Rook shows up and is in his usual exuberant spirits.
Aurelian's pet peeve is people who mock others for liking media, especially if it's considered too juvenile for them. He's very passionate about the fact that all sorts of books, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and music can have value to many differing demographics beyond just the target demographic. And hearing people put down others because maybe they enjoy and find value in an educational show meant for children (or hearing adults try to tell children who have a higher reading comprehension that they're not allowed to read books for older kids because "they won't be able to grasp all the themes and messages") really makes him mad. Felix shares this pet peeve, but Felix is more likely to remain quiet and simply decide that the individual putting others down isn't worth his time or energy and there are better people to engage with, whereas Aurelian will get into an argument if he overhears or interacts with someone like that.
The prompt list!
Taglist: @blithesharem @elenauaurs @inmateofthemind @ramshacklerumble @tixdixl
@distant-velleity @rainesol @thehollowwriter @theleechyskrunkly @twst-migraine (DM me if you'd like to be added or removed from the taglist for my TWST OCs stuff)

EVERYONE is fed up with them...
"Sadly, We’re Not Done With Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Just Yet" | The Daily Caller
LEENA NASIR ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER
April 11, 2024
Sorry folks, but it seems Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are coming back with more viewing content.
Just when we thought they’d bow out of the spotlight they say they hate so much, it was revealed that they will be launching not one, but two new shows for Netflix. The streaming giant has welcomed them back with open arms after they signed a $100 million deal with the company in 2020 to produce content for them, but failed to generate popular content. Apparently, we’re all about to be exposed to Megan Markle once again, according to Deadline.
Markle and Harry will infiltrate your televisions with a new cooking, gardening and lifestyle show in which Markle will star.
There’s no official word yet, but it seems this first show will be an extension of her American Riviera Orchard business, which will dabble in the same sort of content. I’m not sure anyone will really be gripped by watching Markle tackle domestic duties, but she seems to think there’s something special in all of this.
The second show, as you may have guessed, is all about Harry. His passion for the world of professional polo will be explored and fans will get a chance to see what it’s like behind the scenes and in the competitions for the equestrian sport.  Somehow, the belief is that millions of people will want to watch this with bated breath.
I’m not as certain that a success story will come of this.
Markle’s podcast was canceled after just one run because nobody cared what she had to say, and now, we’re trying this all again. (RELATED: Meghan Markle Sinks To Incredible New Lows In Bizarre Coffee Ad)
The pair were already labeled as “grifters” for their initial podcast failure, and this all sounds eerily similar.
Here we go again …

Controversial Olympics opinions:
(been listening to too many olympics podcasts lately so my brain is stuck on it lmao. Sorry about it)
They should get rid of golf It's only been in the Olympics like five times (and the first two times were in 1900 and 1904... let's be real). And we shouldn't be making host cities build golf courses!
Tbh they should get rid of sports for which the Olympics aren't the most prestigious international competition The Olympic Games are a good way to showcase smaller sports, but there's no room in the program for much expansion. Take out tennis, take out golf, take out football (soccer)
Strongly reconsider equestrian events Personally I think it's weird that there are events where horses are so central. If motor sports aren't permitted, it seems odd that horses are. It also rubs me the wrong way that equestrian events feel so much more.. upper-class than the rest. Honestly I'll stop short of saying "get rid of these" because I admittedly don't know much about the sport
Bring back tug-of-war It's easy to understand, and wouldn't require an extra facility or anything. It's also a sport that doesn't require expensive equipment or specialized training facilities... a low barrier of entry means you don't have to be wealthy to be competitive. It would be so cool
Consider permanent hosts I do like the idea of moving the Games around so that we get to see elements of local culture embedded into the Olympics. It's a showcase not only for the athletics but also the arts (I have more to say on that next). Unfortunately, the Olympics has gotten to a point where it's difficult to find a host city that's able to support the Games. Can you imagine a village of like 2300 people like Lake Placid hosting the Olympics today?? Not to mention the displacement and other human rights violations that are often tied to the preparations... There are people who think they should just pick a city each for the Summer and Winter Olympics and have them be a permanent host. That's certainly better than destroying lives and local economies like it does now... but what about that cultural showcase thing? I have an idea: Permanent host locations, but invite a different nation to organize each time. That way smaller, poorer countries can "host" and showcase themselves without the enormous cost and difficulty of physically hosting. Also don't let them both be in fucking France
Bring back the art competitions! There were official art competitions as part of the Olympics in the early days, but they voted to replace them with exhibitions in the 50s. I just think it'd be cool for someone to get a gold medal in music or architecture nowadays.
Fucking pay the athletes As much goddamn money as the IOC makes, it's criminal that it's on the backs of people who they're not even paying to be there. Most Olympic athletes aren't raking in massive endorsement deals, and a lot of them are paying to get there out of their own pockets or via GoFundMe. Pay the volunteers, too, while you're at it. You don't have to make them rich, just make it so you don't have to already be well-off to do it.
Let indigenous nations compete as their own team if they want There's talk of allowing the Haudenosaunee Nation to enter a lacrosse team at the 2028 Olympics, but the IOC isn't in favor as of now because they don't have their own National Olympic Committee. Bad excuse; make an exception. After all, the Refugee Olympic Team exists. Y'all literally make the rules
Ban Israel They banned South Africa for decades due to Apartheid. They've banned several other nations due to wartime actions. There's precedent; they can do this (they won't)
Incorporate the Paralympics into the Olympics (if they want) The parenthetical is there bc I don't know enough about what the Paralympic athletes actually want. If they prefer their own event, swag HOWEVER, from an outsider's perspective, I think it's kind of frustrating how it's treated as a secondary competition. There's less coverage, less attention, and the medals don't count the same in the eyes of most people. For example: did you know that American swimmer Trischa Zorn has 41 gold medals? Michael Phelps just has 23. But HE'S the one who gets to be the "most decorated Olympian of all time" because Trischa's medals are in the Paralympic Games. I think seeing adapted sports alongside their conventional counterparts would be fascinating. Put those in primetime with everything else! People who don't care to seek them out need to see disabled athletes too

Royal Summer Challenge 2024: Day 8
Favourite photos of royals at the Olympics
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Many thanks to episode 32 of the On Heir Podcast which definitely influenced this post, I hadn’t realised so many royals had been Olympians. I decided to celebrate a few in this post, namely King Harald, Princess Anne, Zara Tindall and King Felipe who competed in 1964-72, 1976, 2012 and 1992 respectively, but there are many other royal Olympians who have competed in a wide range of sports from sailing and equestrian to handball and bobsleigh.
Fun fact: Between 1956 and 2012, only 2 Summer Olympics have not had any royals from around the world compete in the games, both those born into royalty and those who have since married in - 1980 and 1984.
