o tanadrin, normal politics understander, i'm an american with a german mother (finally applied for my first german passport last month but i'm told processing times are around 3mo, hoping it gets through alright because I would really love to have an EU passport right about now). i'm not a doomer, the current state of affairs enrages me and makes me want to act more than wallow, but by god it's getting really bleak out here. is there any barometer you would look to for a time-to-flee-the-country alert? besides the presidential statement that anyone can and will be sent to a death camp in el salvadore on a whim
you do not need my permission or anyone else's to move countries if you want to (aside from the relevant immigration authorities i mean. you definitely need their permission). if you've got an easy route to an EU passport your main obstacles are just gonna be the usual things that are impediments to moving like how much it costs and finding a job and maybe the language a bit if you're not fluent (and especially if you move to a city without a big anglophone immigrant community).
i have no special insights here about what you "should" do. i come from a long line of people on both sides of my family who for the last several centuries have had the habit of fucking off to new places whenever the fancy took them, and am in general in favor of people spending at least a little time living overseas if they can bc it's an interesting and character-building experience. i will say you should be clear-eyed about the difficulties. money, jobs, language. also just the alienating effect moving to a new place where you don't know anybody can have. but you gotta weigh that against your personal feelings about staying put, how safe you feel, and your ability to maintain your current standard of living where you are.

the utter lack of affection or care amongst my extended family is so bleak and miserable
#like I don't get on or chat with fucking any of my english cousins. the few I did#get on well with disappeared from my life out of nowhere because of family drama#the ones left are older than me and they never cared about me lol#and they're all boys which I don't think helped things when we were younger#but that shouldn't matter. I get on with my spanish male cousin fine ! he's lovely!#but the people I'm with every winter and birthday etc are just completely cold and detached#I have no real relationship with any of my uncles or aunts or cousins#it's not like there's even one I can go and talk to while everyone else is ignoring me lol#I've got my brother and that's it and of course he's just a little kid#he's either trying to get attention from the adults or trying to get me to play with him#which is fine. but. ugh.#it's just like I should've had this big network of people who cared about me statistically I should've had at least one family#member who I had some kind of unique or close bond with and I never did I never got it#I grew up with two sisters and I never got it. I think about what it could be like with sisters who gave a shit about me all the time#If I had someone to talk to besides my parents or about my parents it would be such a weight off my back#and all I've got it my brother and he's just too young for me to put any of my life on his shoulders#my biggest fear is that when he hits puberty he'll begin to think I'm embarrassing and stupid and not like me anymore#and then I'll really have nothing

It is beautiful to see that growth at the end. I'm sure pretty much most Cymry and Welsh speakers have had to deal with someone like this at some point in their lives, especially if they have English family members or friends. It's understandable that my guy was feeling the stress of not being able to understand everything around him, but the important thing is he was willing to learn, and that's all that matters.

Ok so watching this Nintendo Direct made me realize I definitely care more about watching the direct asap than the later half of the first meeting of my damn social administrative law course.
I will either talk to the docent after the "laws of livelihood security, basic security and welfare" course I got with them in the morning. Or I will leave early during the other course.

when the fic mentions linguistics and is just... two steps off from being correct?
#like ok kidfic. theres a child and theyre speaking in proper “grammatical” english#and the adult character goes “thats not how kids talk” but we dont even know how old this kid is#and like. ok so they use fancy vocab. thats cause british kids are weird to americans not because theyre a kid#like after age 7 most kids are at least vaguely in the realm of grammatical correctness. I spoke fluently by age 4#my point is that it wildly varies and also that I'm vaguely sure based on other fics that this kid is like 10#and 10 years olds are absolutely past the critical age period where they do the actual grammatical incorrectness#like sure theyre kids. but they can still speak the language correctly#and considering who that particular kid grew up with of course they speak fancy#also important note is that this fandom usually makes kid and co autistic and that definitely can affect this stuff#again. me saying complete (albiet not grammatical) sentences when I was 1.5 years old and fully speaking by age 4#just. saying “kids cant talk like that. I know that from linguistics”??? no u dont??#I am taking like 3 classes on critical period next semester its one of my favorite things to study#I wanna write one of my final papers for my degree on the lexical categories of morphemes in the context of children#(specifically. because I was unhinged about how “”dis-appear“ is opposite of ”appear“ so ”dis“ means opposite!” at age 8)#((baffled all the english teachers and did Not know what linguistics was until 2 years ago when I decided to major in it))#linguistics posting

I think Chinese deserves a mention here for using the verb 拜 (bài) “to offer respect” for transliterating “bye-bye” (“拜拜~~~!”)
Also shout-out to the Swedes for just borrowing the French "adieu" into their vocabulary and just spelling it "adjö"

It's like Marina said, as bad as the mini fight of that day was, it was necessary, we finally talked about the things we suffered and showed how they also hurt us, and how mom hurts us too, she doesn't understand/doesn't try to understand us, and that's it!, maybe that's just how it is, mom is like that, she's not considerate, she doesn't understand what we suffered indeed
Before that it seems that I/we get it very frustrated with that, even though I didn't admit it, it seems like I wanted her to understand, I/we wanted her approval, but now with this day....we don't need her approval, it's just like that, mom is like that, she'll never understand what we went through, and she's not interested in the things we do indeed, and that's all right, she's just like that, she doesn't understand and she doesn't need to understand, I/we no longer want her to understand and be interested
#reflection#The reason of the mini fight was just that mom started talking about trauma and said that she has afraid of being judged...#We said that we had this fear a lot too but then she question us saying that...#How we have this fear “judged of what?” She said#I snap it what you mean? “Being judged of what?”(Ugh The way she says) I think you forgetting something...#Very important about our life we suffered bullying!! Bullying is basically an phsychologic abuse of judgement💢🔥#We were judged almost our whole life a-and it was in everywhere by people at our age adults kids...#At the english course at school at the street#How dare you say that!!! As if what we being thru was nothing!#I had afraid of going outside I didn't had a voice god and it seems we eventually become a target to judgement just for existing...#People laughed at us i had an anxiety attack almost every day#Are you having amnesia should I get worried? First forget that you liked mine s1fu w0man and now forget that we were victims of bullying...#In a very Young age(these are so unimportant to you that you simply forget)#Then we open up about a very suck day that the school superior screamed at us cuz we didn't find...#People for doing a group project(this story is for another day it was worse than that)well it had a teacher...#That put us in this situation I swear I almost hate this woman till this days cuz of that well mom was saying “ ah it was the teacher job..#She was doing what she has to do?" We fuckin know that it was her job I not saying she was evil I just want you to see how it hurted us...#Marina was the one that fighted more back she said how much frustating it is to open up to mom...#Cuz she always like that she always tries to almost put the blame on us make us understand the other side but NOT OUR SIDE#And we always caring and understanding with her but she is not the same with us that was what marina said...#Then mom just go away crying I guess(I didn't saw my eyes were shut)#Now everybody is okay again time cease those things#....well it was very intense but it was the right thing#I don't understand what mom's being thru and mom don't understand what we being thru....#Cuz we are different people for more similar that “trauma” is we dealt differently....and that's okay we don't need to understand
