I have this idea for a Merlin fic (BBC), but since I don't have much time to even develop it… well, I'd like to give it up for adoption.

So, here's what happens.

I have this idea for a Merlin fic (BBC), but since I don't have much time to even develop it… well, I'd like to give it up for adoption.

And what better place to give it up for adoption than this platform?

The basic idea is this: Merlin never had magic. In all his time and adventures with Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table… it's basically him achieving everything he achieved in canon, but based on some weird luck and self-loathing.

Like, he doesn't have a single drop of magic in his body, to say the least. Yes, he's still the son of Balinor and Hunith, but he's not capable of commanding dragons or anything similar.

In fact, he thinks the dungeon dragon is Uther's exotic war pet until someone explains its history to him.

But because he's managed to survive so much and overcome several trials that no one in their life could do without magic, many of the characters he interacts with believe he does have it. However, his ability to survive everything that happens to him is due to pure coincidences and Merlin's unorthodox methods to save the day.

The only ones in the castle who are convinced that Merlin doesn't have magic are Gaius, Gwen, Lancelot, the servants, and—against all odds—Uther. I mean, they've seen the boy; he doesn't have a single drop of magic in his body.

And if he did, it would be a curse. A lot has happened to him since he arrived in Camelot.

Both Arthur and the other Knights of the Round Table, Morgana, and Mordred, believe that Merlin does have magic, but he's just not very good at controlling it, or—as could be the case, from the more innocent perspective of the knights—that Merlin isn't aware he has magic and it's so instinctive that it only activates in moments of high risk.

This leads them all to believe they're keeping Merlin's magical secret… when magic never existed in the first place.

Even Morgana comes to resent Merlin, as in canon, only she doesn't do it because she feels betrayed by the poisoning attempt, but because she believes Merlin knows he has magic but won't tell anyone; she believes Merlin simply doesn't want to use his magic or wants to get rid of it, and that's why he never uses it.

So, as you can see, this is the idea for a Merlin fic that came to me. And while I love it and have some key ideas for that universe, I don't have the time to develop it as I'd like, so I'd like some samaritan soul, a fan of the series, to adopt it.

that one deleted scene where merlin compliments percival and arthur takes him down, then merlin compliments gwaine and arthur takes him down, the merlin insinuates they’re letting him win so arthur challenges elyan and wins. merlin laughs after arthur stomps away and then lancelot comes over to chide him and complain and merlin laughs and says that arthur is just so predictable. out of the corner of his eye he can see the king returning so he flutters his eyelashes and places his hands on lancelot’s arms to squeeze his muscles and goes “and you’re all big, strong men. i’m sure you can take it” lancelot stares, confused, but can’t say anything before arthur plows right through them and grabs a weapon before dragging lancelot onto the field with him. lancelot turns to look over his shoulder with a betrayed look and merlin just waves back with a grin. arthur wins. leon sighs tiredly from beside merlin, scaring him bc he didn’t see the knight make his way over to him. leon doesn’t say anything but just gives merlin his Disappointed Mom stare and merlin mutters an apology

Merlin, *trying to open the cell where Arthur is held*: HOW?!

Arthur: Well, I don't know, I mentioned that a prince can't engage in sexual relations before marriage, and I guess they figured I was a virgin.

Gwaine *dying of laughter*: 🤣

Merlin: Oh, for the love of the gods. Hang tight, we're almost done unlocking this damned lock.

Arthur: Okay... just be quick, if you can. It looks like they're preparing the fire.

Leon *looking at the pagans preparing torches*: I don't know, sir, I think those are just decorations...

Lancelot *looking pale*: I think they plan to throw you into the volcano...

Elyan *looking nauseous while staring at a cauldron*: I think they want to eat you...

Percival *laughing*: Eat, sure, but not in the way you guys are probably thinking *points to a large bed surrounded by torches and flowers*.

Gwaine: Oh my God *sees some naked people* ... so Merlin, maybe it's better to let the princess have a little fun with...

Merlin *jealously breaks the cell door*: Get out of that cell now, Arthur, we're leaving, now! *growls*

Arthur *gulps and steps out of the cell*

So you know how Gwaine, Elyan and Lancelot all canonically (or at least implied) travelled around a lot and never settled down before they became knights?

Well my headcanon is that their paths crossed in some degree before the season 3 finale and then once they’ve all met again because of Arthur and Merlin they recognise each other and it’s like

Ok but it's so freaking intriguing to me that the entire merlin fandom decided that Aithusa is a girl, cause I'm pretty sure that they're a boy in canon??? Like when was this decided who is the diva that started this movement cause I wholeheartedly support!!! Like every fic, headcanon, edit or just generally most fanworks have Aithusa as a girl and that's freaking cool

Thinking about a Merlin modern au and with all the killing and the knights and all im thinking its got to be crime/cop drama

So the knights are cops or FBI or whatever. Whats everyone else? Uther is the highest authority in canon so he's gotta be the same here. Whats that? The police commissioner/agency director? The DA (lawyer)? The Mayor? Is Gaius the ME? And Merlin the ME Assistant? Maybe they've got a situation like Bones and thats how Merlin can essentially be Arthur's partner without entirely being equal? Or would he and Gaius be better suited as EMTs or actual hospital staff/docs? Wheres Gwen? Morgana has lawyer vibes but does that work with what weve established? What stops the Round Table knights from being officers/agents? Is it past criminal records? Bc they're not Camelot citizens (excluding Elyan)? Kilgharrah has got to be some secret high profile imprisoned consultant that managed to finagle a Witness Protection order out of Merlin

I just think it’s hilarious to think about everyone looking at Merlin and the knights of the round table and thinking that they’re the ones protecting him and treating him like the little brother of the group when in reality if you watch them for more than 5 minutes you’ll see that Merlin is the tired old soul surrounded by these hooligans that actively try to make his life harder

(He’s one more prank away from putting a spell on each of them that will give them dry itchy skin for an entire month)

battle of camlann but merlin wasn’t ancient as shit. he blasts the warriors around arthur away and arthur turns to see a glowering, golden-eyed merlin. he tightens his grip on his sword but isn’t able to raise it. the inconceivable notion that merlin has betrayed him runs through his mind but he cant quite grasp it. his father is screaming in his head to kill the wretched sorcerer but all arthur can see is his friend wearing a face that looks too much like morgana’s. merlin glances up at arthur and the expression of rage fizzles into one tinged with fear and concern - all too confusing for him to unpack in the midst of battle. merlin is slow to approach his side and even then he keeps his distance. before either of them can say anything, mordred appears, sword in hand, glaring at arthur.

merlin tries to draw the former knights attention away from arthur, tries to goad him into fighting merlin instead, but mordred is deadset on fighting arthur. he calls morgana over instead and says emrys’s fight is with her while his is with arthur. with the extra seconds of back and forth, arthur isn’t as shocked when he raises his sword against mordred’s. morgana and merlin blast each other great distances until they’re far away from modred vs arthur and land on the front line between the two armies. both armies back off and watch the light show as morgana and emrys battle until morgana’s army uses the distraction to close in on camelot’s army.

three battles occurring at once until morgana gets a lucky hit in and merlin goes flying. he lands next to a gwaine who is currently bleeding out. he smiles when he sees who’s next to him “merlin!” which sounds so much like his greeting every time they ran into each other before gwaine became a knight. he reaches out and heals gwaine’s wound and leon just looks up at him for a moment before going “you’re always full of surprises, aren’t you merlin?” merlin grins and goes “i got one more” he stands up on surprisingly steady legs and calls on kilgharrah. in for a penny, out for a pound. arthur is already fuming at him, might as well rip the bandaid off right?

kilgharrah attacks morgana’s army while merlin orders aithusa to stand down. camelot’s army is able to march through the charred army and bring down those who remain, mordred is loosing but persevering through rage and spite alone, morgana is screaming (like she always is nowadays). merlin and morgana battle once more until mordred and morgana’s armies have fallen. merlin makes a tactical retreat to arthur who is still staring at him wearily (and definitely irate). he requests permission to kill morgana which is baffling but she is his sister and he’s always cared for her even after her betrayal so he supposes it makes sense. once he gives it, their fight doesn’t last longer than a minute. emrys was always stronger than her, he was just buying time.

camelot emerges victorious though they don’t seem all that excited about it. the other warriors cheer and clap each other on the back, but arthur is just watching merlin. the knights watch them uneasily. merlin returns arthur’s gaze. “is that the fucking dragon i killed?” merlin looks up at kilgharrah who is needlessly burning the remains of morgana’s army. merlin turns back to him “yes.”

Merlin explaining to the knights what happened to him looking all disheveled and like he came out of a fight against dragons.

Merlin: I got to the room and Arthur was sitting on the bed with a scowl on his face…

Gwaine *laughs*: Uh-oh, did you mess up?

Merlin: Well, I hadn’t at the time, but I did later. Anyway, I saw he was angry and got worried, so I asked, “Did something happen?” I thought he would answer, but he just looked at me and said, “Nothing!😡”.

Merlin imitates the prince’s accent and the knights laugh at his imitation, he was very good at mimicking Arthur’s voice.

Merlin: That “Nothing” from Arthur seems to have a direct connection to the devil! When Arthur said “NOTHING!” it was almost like Morgana knew things were going to go wrong and came out from behind the curtain to cause more trouble! I could almost hear her saying, “Go, go, go, fight, fight!”.

Lancelot *drinks his beer*: Jesus, but what happened after all? Why was he so angry?

Merlin: So, that’s what I was trying to find out! So I asked and he replied, “If you did something, then you should know 😡”. So I told the truth, right, that I had no idea what I did. He looked at me and said, “Who is Freya?”.

Leon and Elyan took a deep breath understanding where the story was going, Gwaine and Percival choked on their beer and Lancelot bit his lip to keep from laughing at his friend’s misfortune.

Merlin: Yes, I know, it sounds funny, and it could have turned into a funny situation, but I got so nervous talking about my ex that the best answer I could come up with at the moment was “Which Freya?”

All the knights lost their smiles and were now just looking at Merlin in disbelief.

Elyan: That was so stupid to say, even for you!

Merlin: I know!

Leon: Merlin, if you knew Arthur was jealous, why did you say something so dumb!?

Merlin: I got nervous! But the worst part wasn’t even that, the worst part was that after I said that, I saw Morgana go “Ihhhh 😰” and run away! She left! She left me alone with angry Arthur! That coward! 😡

Gwaine fell to the floor laughing, Leon seemed to suffer from headaches due to the couple’s antics, Elyan just got up and left to laugh and maybe tell Gwen what Merlin said, Percival was just laughing shamelessly while drinking, and Lancelot was on the verge of a stroke while holding back his laughter. Merlin sometimes hated his friends, those idiots.
