Spoilers if you haven't seen the episode
The title of this week's episode is a reference to Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" poem specifically the line "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood". A good title for how General Sam Lane and Lois's lives "diverged" from one another after all the things that happened between the two.
Starting things off, General Sam Lane is hiding from Taskforce X and has covered the windows in Clark and Jimmy's apartment. Clark and Jimmy return and they get a knock on the door. General Lane is naturally jumpy at this but it turns out it's a package for Jimmy from S.T.A.R. Labs (I talked about the laboratory here) and the message says Jimmy is invited to speak at the symposium thanks to his Flamebird app and documentations about the occurrences around Metropolis, Superman, and the alien tech everyone's been getting. The message refers to Jimmy as Superman's "best friend" (and later on Lex Luthor calls Jimmy a "pal" both of which are often used as a way to referred to Jimmy in the comics. There's even been comics titled Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen, that lets reader's see Jimmy's adventures in relation to Superman. The latest run of it is fan-fucking-tasic! Highly recommend reading it!
In a, I'm assuming rented limo, Clark reads off who will be at the S.T.A.R Labs Symposium. First is CEO Hamilton, who we can assume is Emil Hamilton, General Wade Eiling, and Senator Hackett. Later at the symposium we even see General Eiling in the animated flesh with Hank Henshaw (who I talked about here) and sitting next to Mayor Fleming and Senator Sackett (both of whom I talked about here and they are wearing their outfits from episode 4 season 1).
Emil Hamilton makes his first appearance in the Adventures of Superman #424 (1987) [W: Marv Wolfman, P: Jerry Ordway, I: Mike Machlan, C: Tony Zuiko, L: John Costanza] as a former S.T.A.R. Labs employee who lost his job and his technology credit thanks to Luthor buying them out and claiming it as his own. He's Superman's science confidante and helped build the Phantom Zone Projector and the Superman robots. But later on he delves into more villainous territories.
General Wade Eiling I briefly talked about here but I can expand on it. Like I said in the previous post about General Eiling, he made his first appearance in Captain Atom #1 (1987). He becomes an even bigger threat to the Justice League in JLA #25 (1999) [W: Grant Morrison, P: Howard Porter, I: John Dell, C: Pat Garrahy, L: Ken Lopez]. General Eiling gets rid of his old human body and transfers his consciousness to the body of the Shaggy Man, shaved it down to what you see here. Now, he's granted super strength, near invulnerability, super stamina, and heightened sense of smell.
At the symposium, we see some tech demos with one being the invisibility vest that Mist wore in season 1 (I talk about him here) and the shield that blocks laser fire. Glad that someone on the MAwS team is a Gundam fan because that shield is designed to look like the Gundam RX-78's shield.
In a flashback to Lois's past, General Sam Lane explains to Lois what her mom's name means in Korean. Much like her comic counterparts, Eun-byeol's name starts with an E just like Ella/Elinore/Elenor Lane. Very smart of the MAwS crew to keep the consistency. Based on what was said in these flashbacks, Lois might be an only child, so no Lucy Lane, Lois's sister in this continuity.
As Lois and General Sam Lane try to hide themselves from Taskforce X, we see them get cornered in the sewers by Atomic Skull who I talked about here.
Continuing their escape, General Sam Lane and Lois meet a pawn shop owner, a friend of Sam's named Winslow Schott, a weapons and technology expert. This name drop is a reference to Superman villain, the Toyman.
Toyman's first appearance was in Action Comics #64 (1943) [Cover art by Sam Citron and Don Komisarow]. In this continuity, Winslow Schott was a talented toymaker who turned to the life of crime in order to get his thrills. In his debut he makes two robberies with his toys, but Superman stops his third robbery. Toyman captures Lois and attempts to kill her but was stopped by Superman.
In the silver age, Toyman makes his first appearance in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #9 (1955) [W: Otto Binder, P: Curt Swan, I: Ray Burnley]. Here Toyman goes by Winslow Percival Schott, which becomes his full name from then to this day. In the comic, some crooks kidnap Jimmy and use him to answer some Superman trivia on a quiz show.
Winslow would be revamped again in Superman #13 (1988) [W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tony Zuiko, L: John Costanza] where he is a digruntled toy designer employee who was fired for not being able to adapt to what children wanted at the time. So as a result of his firing Winslow would go after his former employers and kill them with his toys. This was origin of Winslow I am more familiar with thanks to Superman the Animated Series (highly recommend watching that cartoon too because its incredible and also Toyman in that show is FUCKING creepy).
There have also been other people who took up the Toyman name. Jack Nimball, the second Toyman uses the same gimmicks as Winslow, but Jack is dressed as a Jester. You may recognize the design in the Super Friends cartoon. The third and heroic Toyman was Hiro Okamura who was a rich Japanese teen with incredible intelligence and mechanical skills. Hiro would be most famous in the pop culture zeitgeist when he, Superman, and Batman teamed up together to stop a giant kryptonite asteroid from colliding with the Earth as seen in Superman/Batman #6 (2004) and the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies animated movie.
At the end of the episode, Clark feeling alone after overhearing Lois agree with her father that Clark was weird and hearing that Jimmy helped Lex get his start, he uses the beacon to contact Kara, his cousin who I talked about here. So I have a weird theory. It is possible that the person flying over Earth is not "Zod" but actually Kara?. In season 1's finale "Zod" uses the "kneel before me" line making all of us think its Zod, but the credits list the character with a female VA. So my idea is this was Kara receiving the signal from the beacon.
We seen in next weeks episode preview Kara will be showing up and that close up on the bracelet makes me think this is how she compacts the armor. Will I be right? Who knows, but all I can say is:
Very good episode this week can't wait to see what they'll do with Kara next week!

Here's another theory oneshot
Again, based on one of my theories for Unraveled.
(Keefe pov)
Keefe and his friend were driving to the store. Keefe hadn't been in a car very often, and it freaked him out.
Why would humans put their lives in the hands of other people in metal boxes on wheels going sixty miles per hour? Humans seemed way too comfortable with something that could easily kill them.
Milo wasn't aware that Keefe was an elf. So that meant Keefe had to keep his freak out to himself. Milo, unfortunately, just thought his driving was bad. He wasn't horrible. Keefe just didn't trust the other people beside them.
He relaxed when the car came to a stop at a red light. Eventually, the light turned to green, and their car started to slowly pull out.
Keefe relaxed into his seat. But both him and Milo screamed a moment later. A car came barreling out from the other lane. It slammed straight into the right side of the car.
The airbags went off. Pain shot through his body he was squished between the car. Milo beside him, let out a blood curdling screech.
Keefe's head rammed into the window. A sickening crack could be heard. Throbbing bloomed throughout his skull.
The momentum finally came to a stop. He fumbled for the car door. After struggling for a moment, he managed to get it open. He spilled out onto the concrete.
Sirens got closer and closer. But Keefe's head was getting hazier and hazier. It felt like he was somewhere else. And suddenly... he was.
He was standing by the British Library. He was at a street corner, his mom beside him. On the other side of the street, Ethan and Eleanor Wright.
His mother crouched down to his level. "Ok, Keefe. We're going to practice your telekinesis. When I say go, you're going to use it to pull that little girl closer to us."
Little Keefe nodded. He felt his past self's excitement of being able to go out in the Forbidden Cities was jittery. His present self felt nothing but bad omen. He could do nothing but sit and watch.
As soon as a big double-decker bus came by, his mom told him to pull. Little him followed orders while present him was screaming not to do it.
It was all in vain.
Eleanor was tugged out into the road. Ethan chased after his daughter. He grabbed hold of her hand and-
Screaming. Blood. Crying. Ethan had his head cracked open on the pavement, his eyes staring into the abyss. Eleanor had gotten run over by the wheel. She was so eerily still. It reminded him of the awful scenes he had seen of small creatures on the side of the road. It made him feel sick.
Little Keefe stared in horror at what he had done. Present him did too. Because... it was his fault, after all. He had killed them.
Little him screamed at the top of his lungs. His mother turned to hold him close to her as he cried at the horrific scene before him.
"It's going to be alright," she assured him. "The washers will be here soon."
The memory hazed back out, being thrown back into the present. He trembled at the uncovered memory. His throat was closing off.
He only realized he was laying in a sticky red substance when a paramedic rushed over to him.
He couldn't make himself speak when asked if he was ok. He just continued to shake and cry.
He hurt. His head felt like exploding. No doubt was he scraped and bruised and battered. But the worst part was the emotional storm going on in his brain.
My fault. My fault. My fault. My fault, was all that repeated in his head.
It had been his fault. He pulled Elenor into the road, and Ethan went after her. He let out a scream, putting his head in between his knees.
The paramedic waved others over. Keefe fought against them when they tried to help him, too disoriented from the trigger.
After plenty of struggles, they managed to get him trapped down to the gurney. He thrashed against the person who was trying to clean off his head wound. One of the others filled a syringe. He tried to squirm, but it was injected into his arm.
It made him start feeling dizzy and lethargic. The world started spinning, and he surrendered to the inky black pull of sleep.
When he awoke, he was somewhere unfamiliar. From the people walking around in scubs and the smell of anti-septic, he deciphered that he was in a human hospital.
His limbs ached. He reached up to his head and found stitches where he had hit it. If he was there, then.... where was Milo?
He sat up. One of the signs read, 'Trauma Unit'. He tried to get out of bed, but something kept him tethered. He glanced down where he felt a tug on his arm. Something was taped down inside his arm. He ripped it off
He hissed in pain immediately after, and a whole bunch of machines around him started beeping. The spot on his arm was bleeding.
Nurses came rushing into the rooms. They crowded around him with hands held out like he was a frightened animal.
"Where's Milo?" he asked before they could restrain him. "Milo. My friend that was also in the accident. Where is he?"
Keefe stood waiting for an awnser. After a couple of seconds, one of the nurses finally spoke up, causing his entire world to come crashing down
"Oh, honey." She gave him soft, sad eyes. "He was pronounced dead on scene."

Sixteen: Give Me Your Goddamn Kutte!
Charles Leclerc x Nova Teller (OC)
Till the wheels fall off masterlist
Small town meets the fast lane. What happens when two souls meet? Will it end in happiness or will they both crash and burn?
Warning; Jax loses his shit
As always reblogs and feedback is highly appreciated ❤️ if you want tagging in future parts let me know ❤️
Juice kept quiet as Jax planted his hand firmly on his shoulder, he didn’t care if he was squeezing the muscle like it was a piece of paper ready to be tossed into the trash can. The whole club pulled their weight, paying their dues each month and making sure all the businesses are fit to make as much money as possible, yet for some reason Juice decided that he could be the one to slack off.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw the cutest sight, Elenor sitting on Nova’s knee whilst Charles had his arm wrapped around his sister’s shoulder and with the other hand he was helping Elenor color in whichever coloring book she had brought with her. He felt his heart flip watching the three of them together. The only thing was worried about was when Charles had to leave for the rest of the racing season, he knew it was going to not only break his sister’s heart but also his daughter’s as well.
Pushing the thoughts down, he tightened his grip on Juice’s shoulder, marching him into the kitchen. Jax was no longer playing around with the giant man baby.
This was his livelihood he was playing with now.
The moment they walked into the kitchen a heavy silence fell over the room as Juice backed himself into the corner, “you had so many fucking chances,” Jax growled, slamming his palms against the stainless steel counter, watching as Juice winced at the sound echoing around the room. “I stuck my fucking neck out on the line for you,” he paused for a moment taking in the guilty look that was taking over Juice’s expressions, “but you didn’t know that, did you?”
“No,” Juice muttered quietly, dropping his gaze down to his feet.
“The first time you fucked up Nova wanted me to kick your ass to the curb,” Jax snarled, gripping the edge of the worktop so tightly his knuckles were starting to turn white, “then the second time, I lied for you! Once again so Nova didn’t fucking chop your dick off, and this is how you repay me?”
Jax could feel his blood pressure rising, he knew his voice would be echoing around the room, no doubt everyone in the bar heard every word he was saying, but right now he couldn’t see past the rage, especially when Juice burst out laughing.
“Please tell me you aren’t fucking laughing right now?” Jax spat lunging across the room, wrapping his hand around Juice’s throat, slamming him against the stainless steel cabinets. “Look at me,” he growled, venom dripping on his every word. Juice ignored Jax’s demands, “I said fucking look at me you piece of shit. Fucking explain yourself.”
“I thought it was okay seen as Nova is suddenly swanning around with that fucking Formula One driver!” Juice snapped, narrowing his eyes at Jax.
“You have got to be fucking kidding me!” Jax roared, there was no way he was blaming his sister right now. “Nova fucking runs herself into the ground for this family and this club. If you have forgotten she was running the bar and the cafe for nearly the best part of a year. She hardly fucking slept, she lives off energy drinks and there were about three times she nearly put herself in hospital due to exhaustion and on the fourth time she ended up in the ER from the amount of caffeine she had, but we kept that quiet from you all because you didn’t need to know!” Jax paused for a moment, taking a breath, “oh, I forgot she's been the main carer for JT. So yes, I believe she is the one who deserves to have the summer off, maybe even fall in love, and I was the one to tell her to take a step back.”
Juice didn’t speak, the guilty look on his face had disappeared as quickly as it appeared, instead he was smirking. Jax couldn’t believe he hadn’t noticed this before, the Puerto Rican was high right now. Without thinking he balled his fingers into a fist before raising his arm letting his knuckles collide with Juice’s jaw, “you are a fucking joke right now, showing up high and trying to bring down my sister.”
“Whatcha gonna do? Beat me?”
“I should fucking bury you!” Jax snarled, releasing his grip of Juice’s throat taking a couple of steps back, running his fingers through his hair, fixing a couple of strands of hair that had fallen out of place, “give me your goddamn kutte!”
Juice stared back at Jax in slight disbelief, but his movements were fast as he ripped off the well worn leather hanging on his shoulders, “do you know what Jackson, fuck you!” Juice snapped, launching the kutte on the tiled floor like it was a piece of litter to him. “Everything is about you and fucking Nova, neither of you fucking care about anyone else,” he seethed, narrowing his eyes at Jax, “she isn’t the only one trying to keep their head above water, running multiple businesses.”
He took a step closer to Jax, who was standing there in shock at the sudden outburst from someone Jax thought he knew, turns out he didn’t, “you are actually doing me a favor,” Juice scoffed, running his hand over his face, “I can actually work less to support myself instead of this stupid fucking club.”
“Juicy Boy.”
“Don’t fucking Juicy Boy me,” he snapped, glaring at Jax, “Nova has been looking for a reason to kick me to the curb, no one ever fucking checked on me, it was all about precious Nova! Do you know what screw you Jax and screw the club, all this means is I don’t have to keep providing everyone with weed at a heavily discounted rate meaning my goddam takings at my shop will double!” Juice was now pacing the room but suddenly stopped turning to face Jax with a wide smirk on his face, “plus I will get to keep all my own profits.”
Jax felt his expression drop, running his fingers through his hair. His stomach twisted into a tight knot as he realized that Juice was telling the truth.
“You forgot the shop was in my name, not the clubs, didn’t you?” Juice chuckled, as he made his way to the fire exit, “everyone is working themselves to the fucking bone for this club and for what? You don’t even see what's happening in front of your own eyes! Thanks for nothing, I guess, so much for the fucking brotherhood,” he spat before leaving Jax standing in the kitchen frozen to the spot.
His head was spinning, Juice had never kicked off like this before. Leaning against the stainless steel worktop Jax let out a strangled cry. This wasn’t what he needed on the day of the fundraiser but everything Juice said had struck a nerve with him, maybe he was right, maybe he was too focused on the Teller bubble to notice all the other things that were happening around him.
Did everyone feel like this towards him and Nova?
Were they all putting on a front around them?
“Fuuuuuuuuuuck!!!!” he screamed, turning towards the refrigerator letting his fist collide with the metal, not caring about the pain that seared through his knuckles, he kept punching the appliance trying to release the frustration building up in his body.
The music had been turned up to drown out the sounds of the argument of Jax and Juice but nothing could mask the painful screams that echoed through the building. Running my hands over my face I pressed a kiss against the top of Elenor’s head, “Ça vous dérange de la surveiller pendant que je m'occupe de Jax ? You mind keeping an eye on her while I take care of Jax?” I asked Charles and Pierre but keeping my gaze focused on behind the bar.
“Tout va bien ? Is everything ok?” Charles asked softly, running his fingers over the back of my neck.
“Not sure yet,” I sighed, taking a deep breath, “if you can just watch her whilst I go see if Jax is okay that would be great.”
“Of course, Sunshine,” Pierre teased, with a wide smirk on his face.
Rolling my eyes at him, I shuffled Elenor so she was now sitting on the leather sofa. “Why don’t you go show Charles and Pierre your fairy garden?” I asked softly, finally looking down at the sweet innocent girl.
“Wait, you have a fairy garden?” Charles exclaimed, making me smile. No one could doubt he was good with Elenor, “come on then, lead the way Little Bear,” he grinned, holding his hand out. My heart fluttered watching her happily take his hand along with the bright grin that appeared on her face at the sound of the nickname Charles called her.
Pulling the sleeves of Charles hoodie over my hands I slowly made my way towards the kitchen, there were no sounds of arguing anymore so that had to be a good sign right? Either Juice had left or Jax completely lost his temper and Juice’s body would be lying on the floor.
Taking a deep breath I pushed the door open, finding Jax slumped on the floor, his fingers tangled in his hair, tugging at his roots, “fuck, Jax, what happened?” I breathed, panic flooding my body, I had never seen him like this before.
In front of me sat the shell of the man I loved.
“Talk to me,” I whispered, crouching down in front of my brother.
“We fucked up Squirt,” he muttered, letting out a heavy sigh before pushing himself to his feet, storming out of the kitchen.
What the fuck was he on about?
How did we fuck up?
For once it felt like things were finally changing for the better, I was finally getting some sleep, everything felt like it was under control and I had finally met someone who made me feel so many emotions, who set my world on fire and I didn’t want to extinguish the flames. It was like always life had a funny way of kicking me to the ground, leaving me in the dirt.
Letting out a shaky breath I quickly followed my older brother, the moment I stepped through the fire escape I felt the warmth of the sun hit my skin making me rethink my choice of clothing this morning.
“Jaxy,” I hummed, dropping down to the floor joining him on the patio, “talk to me, what's going on?”
“You are gonna hate me for this,” he growled into the air, placing a cigarette between his lips before passing the packet to me, “we might have been too harsh on Juice.”
I practically choked on the first inhale of the cigarette, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Had Jax hit his head or something? “Please tell me this is some fucking joke?” I scoffed, resting my elbows on my knees, “he got in your head didn’t he?”
“Nova, just think about it. We have been so caught up with Pops, the whole messy divorce and custody battle with Tara. For the past year at least we have been fighting to keep our family from drowning,” he sighed, taking a long drag of the smoke. “We failed to notice that everyone else was working their fucking asses off for us, for the club. I think we need to hire more people, a lot more.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, Jax was willing to let random outsiders come in and work the businesses the club had worked so hard to build. I felt like I was losing control and there was nothing I could do about it.
The more I thought about it, the more appealing packing everything into a duffle bag, tossing it into the trunk of my beat up truck and hitting the road without a second glance. In the same breath I knew I was tied to this small town in the middle of nowhere, there was no way I could walk away from my family.
“We aren’t talking about this now,” I scoffed, pushing myself to my feet, “we have less than an hour before that bar is full of people wanting to take part in the annual fundraiser. So take a breath, beat the shit out of the garbage can or something but you need your game face on.”
“Nova,” Jax called out to me as tossed the cigarette butt into the metal bin.
“Not the time Jax,” I hollered over my shoulder as I moved around the building going to find Charles, Pierre and Elenor.
My head was spinning, I was happy enough to welcome Nero into the business with open arms because he was practically family but to welcome strangers in, well that was a different matter entirely. Taking a deep breath I made my way towards the one person that could drown out the voices, my worries and fears.
The warmth of the sun didn’t match the feeling that spread through my body as Charles smiled at me, I was falling hard for him. It was like I had jumped out of a plane without a parachute and the ground was coming at me faster than ever.
My stomach twisted into a tight knot the closer I got to him. Everything was suddenly clear, I was becoming addicted and my drug was Charles Leclerc.

8. Is there anything about post-Flashpoint canon you prefer to pre-Flashpoint canon? Be honest.
Be really honest, c'mon. We can take it :D
i answered this once [here] and im unsure if this will fully count but im constantly going back and forth on if i like the changes for elenor lane! lois' father is in the military regardless and is. rough... but her mother changes from someone she constantly bumps heads with as an adult to someone who passed when lois was a child.
in the original canon i love the conflict between lois and her parents! i love the way she openly despises her mother for being "just" a housewife and her fear of being like her mother, of wasting her life away. to me, lois will never want to be a mother. she isnt family based—she takes pride and value in her work and what shes capable of. she loves her independence, she loves getting into trouble, she loves what she does. the idea of becoming just a housewife (or just the girlfriend to superman, always being saved instead of doing anything) is something that terrifies her to her core. and i think her mother hates that. she has expectations on what a womans purpose and value should be, on what a successful and happy life is. shes proud of her daughter but its a 'she'll change her mind' hope. its a 'she doesn't know better/what shes missing and i have to correct her' thing and that conflict of values makes them have tension in a way thats more subtle and repressed than the outwardly way she and sam fights (also i hc lois as fat and the added pressure that'll cause from her mother on what a woman should or shouldn't be, the unsolicited advice for losing weight or what men do or dont like..)
but also the idea of her dying when lois is a child is so fascinating to me!! it makes more sense with how she does end up more family focused and not as resentful towards it because she was raised at such a young age that this is something to hold value in and how important it is and she doesn't have as many years as resenting her mother and the idea of what motherhood will be (OR itll make her hate the idea of raising children more because her entire life shes been responsible for someone and had to make sacrifices for it... i just dont think she'll ever want to be a mom but that's just me so JRIJBFF) but also her raising her younger sister and how much added pressure that was on her since she was young to be perfect. she has to be the ideal soldier to sam (who in older canon (maybe new too?) said he wanted her to be a boy and blamed her mother for not giving him a son). she goes through sam's military hell and training and has to stand her ground against him alone while never being good enough for him because she'll never be that son he wanted. but also having to be the honorary mother, having to fulfill that role as well? having to learn how to cook and having to clean, having to be responsible for the house and little details, having to be responsible for her younger sister and her well-being instead of getting to just play together like sisters do, having these unfair expectations and extra responsibilities placed on her little shoulders and the way it will fester to more complicated feelings as they grow older...
in the original her and lucy arent that close but in the newer canon they sorta are and i think with ella dying when they were younger, it'll make sense for both dynamics to exist. for there to be a little bit of resentment since lucy didnt have to carry the responsibilities of everything and was allowed a childhood, was allowed to grieve, was allowed to be carefree and stumble and fall. but she still loves her. shell still be there to attempt to catch her when she does inevitably fall, just like she always has been—its her responsibility and duty as a sister to cushion the impact despite how it may harm her. it adds more nuances for their relationship and i love complicated, messy family relationships
i think both have very interesting ways it'll impact anything, with both her family dynamics and how she'll place value on things. with how she views motherhood, marriage and children, her work, her core values and what she prioritizes, her relationship between sam and lucy, how she handles things, everything. a major death like that ripples out to and impacts everything she end up doing, it changes her actions and motives and what fuels her decisions in life and how she sees things
so i both like it and hate it depending on my mood and what i want in the story JDKDJ

My DC Cinematic Universe: Superman (Part II)
Chapter Two: Behind Every Superman
There's nobody quite as ubiquitous in the world of Superman as Lois Lane. Even in the 1930s, when women's rights were lefts, Lois made herself a powerful force and competitor for Clark Kent. Yes, she's what I would call the Inevitable Love Interest by definition, since every Superman worth his salt has a Lois that he ends up with, but that doesn't lessen her as a character...when done correctly.
So, OK, who is Lois Lane, down to her essence? Well, origin-wise, she's an army brat raised by her mother Elenor/Elinore Lane and strict military father, Sam Lane, alongside sister Lucy Lane. She's a no-nonsense, award-winning writer and reporter for the Daily Planet, and she's all about that story. Lois is, essentially, the prototypical female reporter in the same vein as the real life Nellie Bly. And she's one of the most unchanging characters in comic books, throughout her 84-year history. That's right, she's as old as Superman, making her the longest-lasting love interest character in the history of comic books. She's also one of the few female comic book characters that's gotten...well, a modicum of respect, frankly.
As a character, she's essentially always been put on equal footing with men, and with Clark Kent. That's a bit of a blanket statement, but is still tonally correct. Obviously, she was still prone to the sexism of the time. Her first comic book series was more about her connection to Superman, and rivalry with love interest Lana Lang (more on her later), than it was about her career. Despite this, though, she never lost sight of that career, and she was always treated with some respect. I mean, in case you didn't see what I just wrote, she got her own comic book series! Sure, it was a product of the romance comic boom to a certain degree; and sure, maybe it did some things that aged...
...EXTREMELY poorly, Jesus Christ; but she was still a pioneering comic book character in her own right. She's progressed quite a bit since that point, but she's always kept true to her roots. So, before I move on, let me establish the following about what I think makes a good Lois Lane. Your idea of the character may be different, but that's OK; this is just my version based on the books I've read that feature her.
Lois cares about the truth above all things. She's a journalist because she believes that the truth is important, and she will do whatever she can to expose it and bring it to light. Even in the sexist sixties stories where Lois was pining over Superman, she still tried pretty often to figure out who he was in his everyday life. She doesn't like being lied to, but she's also willing to recognize when truth is not the best option. As a reporter, she's used to withholding certain facts in order to protect someone, but she's never willing to outright lie at the same time. Honestly, I think Lois' dedication to the truth is one of the things Clark likes most about her.
Lois is a realist, seeing the world in shades of gray. I've talked a lot about character characters seeing in grayscale or black-and-white, and that's because it's an important metric for the world of Superman. Clark is aware of the greys, as I mentioned in the last post, but his optimism tends to make things just a touch more monochromatic. Lois, on the other hand, sees things a lot more realistically. This is in part because of her military upbringing, and in part because of her career in journalism. More importantly, she never labels anything as "good" or "bad" until she gets all the facts about the situation and context. Sometimes it does turn out to be that simple, and sometimes it doesn't. Either way, Lois will find out where in the gradient somebody tends to be, and will act accordingly as a result.
Lois is dedicated to a fault, and tends to get in over her head. Lois, as a love interest comic book character, tends to get lumped into the category of damsel-in-distress...A LOT. And while that's a reductive and irritating stereotype for female characters...I think it actually makes sense for Lois. The problem with being Lois Lane is that you're extremely stubborn and dedicated to a story, and thus are unwilling to let go of something, even when it could prove dangerous for you. Now, Lois can read situations appropriately, but she's also not afraid to shy away from the more potentially harmful stuff. So, as a result, she tends to find herself in a bit more trouble than originally intended. I imagine that, before Superman comes along, Lois has been in a hostage situation or two, maybe stuck overseas in a warzone for a little bit, and is probably a well-known name to the local Metropolis PD (who I'll get to in another chapter).
Lois is a strong, independent woman...and she loves Clark. Here's the main thing about Lois Lane. She's stubborn, independent, head-strong, dedicated, street-smart, persuasive, savvy, and powerful. All things that make a good reporter. However, in relationships, she's kind of a lot. Before meeting Clark, I imagine that Lois was happily and perennially single. I would also imagine that she didn't date a ton, and didn't need to date a ton. She's a career woman, and she's happy that way. However...Clark Kent is not only a colleague and a competitor who constantly beats her to the punch, he's also a bit of a mystery. And working together as often as they do, Lois understandably caught feelings for him, while also dealing with her feelings for Superman at the same time. But here's a point to be made: Lois was dating Clark, not Superman. After the '60s settled, and Lois was allowed to not be solely defined by Superman, she began to develop feelings for Clark Kent instead. And those feelings were and are extremely strong. Like I said, Lois is strong and independent, absolutely. But that doesn't mean she doesn't rely on Clark for his compassion, his challenging nature, his relative calmness, and his ability to ground her and fuel her at the same time. The Lois-Clark relationship is extremely important, and I will die on that hill. They are genuinely the best relationship in comics.
With all of that said and done, I wanna look at previous adaptations of the character, before I go into what I think a cinematic Lois Lane should be. Keep reading for more of my rabid rambling.
Lois Lane: Adapted
Because of her central role in the Superman mythos, she's been adapted into nearly every Superman-based production, dating back to the original 1940s film serials and radio productions, as well as the 1950s television series Adventures of Superman. But those were essentially what you'd expect of Lois, with two actresses (Phyllis Coates for season 1, and Noel Neill afterwards) playing the hard-nosed reporter and compassionate champion of the people, respectively. Haven't seen that series, so I can't really comment. However, I will comment on one of the best live-action versions of the character, played by Margot Kidder in the Reeves-led films.
Margot's Lois Lane is determined, lively, witty, and curious to a fault. I think I can say with little argument that she's the best Lois Lane in film. Maybe not in live action in general, but definitely in film. She's a little too damsel-in-distress-y, even for somebody who thinks that role is one that Lois fits, and maybe a little more reckless than is reasonable for a reporter, but I will stand-by this as the best cinematic version. I also quite like her relationship with Clark and Superman, especially as it evolves through the first two films. This version also established the fact that Lois, despite being a great writer, can't spell. She's a charming iteration of the character, even in a film that's already extremely charming. One of these days, I'll talk more about the wonderful Superman: The Movie, but not today. Back to Lois.
Kate Bosworth, who takes up the role in Singer's Superman Returns, is...there? That's almost the best thing I can say about her, because she's an extremely boring version of the character, despite literally being the same Lois Lane that Margot Kidder had played nearly 30 years prior. She's a hard-nosed reporter, I guess, and she gets into as much trouble as Kidder's lane does, but she's a VERY different version of the character. Bitter and acrid towards Superman (y'know, because she abandoned her while she was pregnant with his child, so...yeah, fair enough), Bosworth's iteration of the character made her so very unlikeable. Like, I get it, but that movie's story is so flawed that it actively ruins Lois and Superman individually and together. So many issues. In any case, this Lois is bitter and boring. The mother angle in interesting, admittedly, but doesn't save the character.
Amy Adams is not Lois Lane. Full fucking stop. In the entirety of the Snyderverse, she never once became Lois for me, despite being a hard-nosed reporter who tirelessly pursues an angle in Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. She has the external trappings of being Lois, but she's too...soft? Is that the right word here? She lacks the wit and spunk I think of with Lois and really isn't too much more than a love interest for Clark. Sure, I do love the fact that she figures out who he is basically immediately, because I think Lois actually is smart enough to discern Superman's identity on her own. But here's the thing...she's Amy Adams. It's nearly impossible for me to see her as anything else. Maybe it's the red hair? That's at least a part of it, because she definitely doesn't look or dress the part.
Another part of it is the fact that she doesn't talk back. Ever. She's taken captive or held hostage a bunch of times in those movies, but she always just rolls with it, with little fight or resistance. Lois would fight back, or at least talk back. Definitely wouldn't go down without a fight, and that's basically all this Lois does. She always feels helpless, and I shouldn't feel like Lois is ever helpless. She's an army brat! You really think Sam Lane wouldn't have taught her to kick people's asses in self-defense? She's just too passive, and being Amy Adams really doesn't help.
So, yeah, Margot's my favorite cinematic Lois...but not my favorite live-action Lois. That role absolutely goes to...
Here's the truth: I haven't seen too much of Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois, but what I have seen I very much like. She's definitely playing a more experienced and open version of the character, while also being the determined and passionate person I love to watch. I really should watch more of Superman and Lois (I've kind of soured on the CW shows, for various reasons), but I do love what I've seen of this Lois. Plus, she's a better version of mom Lois than Bosworth's version, looks more like a comic book version than almost any other version (especially Amy Adams' version), and still maintains the toughness I expect of a Lois Lane. A+.
And for the record, I like Erica Durance's version a lot as well! We got to know her over the course of 7 years on Smallville, and I liked her more and more as time went on. As a fully fleshed out and interesting version of the character, I think she fits that Clark very well, and is faithful to the character as a whole. A- for Erica Durance!
But even then, none of these are my favorite adaptation of Lois. Unsurprisingly...
It's Dana Delany that wins the prize for me. This is my prototypical Lois Lane, taking the best iterations of the character from film and page. Danger-prone but unafraid of danger, hardnosed and always looking for a story, antagonistic to Clark until getting to know and care for him...this is essentially my Lois. If you haven't seen Superman: The Animated Series, I highly recommend it for its adaptations of various characters. Won't be the last time it appears on this list, that's for sure.
In truth, most animated versions of Lois Lane are pretty good, not gonna lie. Basically every one of them has something of merit, but Delany's is still my favorite. Runner-up is probably Rebecca Romjin's version in The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen, which is an underrated pair of films, in my opinion.
But with all of that said...
My Lois Lane
In my theoretical Superman film, Lois Lane will be introduced on the job, which is pretty standard in films. As I've said before, she's a witty, strong, passionate, stubborn truth-seeker, and that'll be apparent throughout this film. Her attraction towards Superman is essentially her attraction to a story or a mystery. She'll get closer to him throughout...but they actually won't interact all that much. Instead, the two will occasionally cross paths while Lois is investigating the villains of the film. But in reality, she won't spend nearly as much time with Superman. However, she will be spending quite a lot of time with Clark Kent. And while Lois and Superman will have some conversations, it's the relationship between Lois and Clark that I'm more interested in exploring. We all know that Lois and Clark get together, but we should be invested in their relationship beyond simple expectation. We should actually WANT them to get together.
In truth, my idea of Lois Lane is pretty simple. It should be somebody who's able to pull of determination and hard-headedness, while also being witty and enjoyable to watch and listen to. Lois should be a fast-talker, able to get somebody to admit to something without even realizing they've done it. Persuasive and perceptive, quick on her feet and quick-witted, street-smart and savvy, etc. We should enjoy watching Lois on screen, and she should command a presence. When Lois is on screen, she should share focus with Clark, not be perceived as the second-string. You pay attention when Lois enters a room, because she keeps you on your toes. When she enters a LexCorp press event, Luthor makes sure that ONLY HE talks to her, because anybody else is at risk of revealing company secrets to her accidentally. THAT is my Lois Lane.
Oh, and one more thing. I don't go into fancasting, because I don't know enough people off the top of my head, but I do want to mention something in these posts: Lois...might be Latina?
I say maybe for a few reasons. One, in recent comics (the New 52, yes, but still), it's revealed that Lois' mother is at least partially Latina, but that's never been fully confirmed. Two, the DC Bombshells version of the character is pointedly Cuban-American. And for the record, if you haven't read Bombshells, it's a HELL of a lot of fun , and well-worth your time in reading. Lois (AKA Eloisa in this universe) takes the role of a teenaged newsie and budding journalist helping the titular Bombshells in their various efforts throughout World War II. And in case you were wondering, yes, she ends up in a relationship with Supergirl. But yeah, she's specifically Cuban-American.
The other reason I say maybe is because, to be honest, there is no evidence for any of this outside of alternate universes or the New 52. So, is Lois necessarily Latina? No. But, uh...why the fuck not? I'm not gonna stand here and say that Lois has to be white, because there's accidentally nothing in the comics that limits her racial background other than tradition. Point being, whoever is the best should get the job. No matter the race, if they can fit those character traits I've put down, they should get the job. Duh. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
Well...Jesus. Now that that's over, it's time to move on to the parental figures in Superman's life, both living...and dead.

highway 59
Just like on any road trip he and Lucy take together, Will drives most of the way. This time, they’re on their way to Milwaukee. Lucy’s on a dissertation committee for a creative writing student out there, some guy who wrote a novel about a boy choosing his mother, like a good version of the movie North. Apparently, Lucy sort of knows the guy through her mother.
“I taught his brother, too, at Wayne,” she says as she makes some last-minute notes on the thick manuscript in her lap. “He was in my freshman comp class. He said Chris was the smart one between them. I don’t think he was lying. This book is really good.”
Will exhales softly. He notices the silence, so he turns on the radio.
I’m not like them, but I can pretend / The sun is gone, but I have a light …
He snorts now.
Thanks, Sam.
“Would you like me better if I wrote a book?” Will asks.
He’s looking at the road, but he can feel Lucy rolling her eyes. It’s her third favorite thing to do, behind two things Will shouldn’t reveal in public.
“I couldn’t like you better if I tried,” Lucy says. “We’ve been over this. Even if you’d been a farmer. Even if you’d been a no-count juvenile delinquent, like you thought you were.”
“I smoked!”
“So did Jan Brady.”
Will rolls his eyes now, too. He merges into the middle lane. According to the map, their exit is coming up soon.
“But if I knew about books the same way you do,” he says, “like you, and Elenore, and your parents, and this guy … what is it … Chip …”
“It’s Chris. Why would it ever be Chip?”
“Why would it ever be Dale? I don’t know. I’m just … I feel like there’s this whole world I’m not part of. Everyone else is there, and then there’s me.”
And that’s how he’s always felt. Like everywhere he goes, he doesn’t fit in. In his family, he’s the only boy, the sore thumb, most likely to be a teen dad. They love him, but does he belong with them? In the Pisces, he always felt like he was the only one who wasn’t really smart, who was faking just so he could keep up with the rest of them. And now, with Lucy and the girls, it’s like they have something on him they can’t even name. Plus, he’s the only boy again.
“Will, listen to me, because I’m only going to say this once,” Lucy says. “I love my job. I love what I teach, and I love what I write. I love that our girls love it, too. But when I look at our jobs … seems like getting people custody of their kids is more important than figuring out if Helen Burns knows she’s angry.”
Will thinks about that for a little while. He doesn’t know who Helen Burns is, and he figures that’s probably the point. But he does help people. That was always the idea. Get the people in the places where they can belong. Get the kids in the right places. Get justice. Justice is a very big thing with Will. He doesn’t even like it when the kids working the two-lane drive-thrus at McDonald’s screw up and take the later car before the earlier one. Maybe that makes him worthwhile. Even if he doesn’t like talking to other lawyers much.
Maybe he has something to be proud of.
“Highway 59’s coming up,” Lucy says. “That’ll get us to Milwaukee.”
Will nods and merges into the far right lane. The college rock station is playing a different song now.
You could stand me up at the gates of Hell / but I won’t back down …
He laughs a little. This song usually reminds him a lot of Lucy. But maybe, just for three minutes, the song can be his.
Thanks, Sam.
He takes the exit toward Highway 59, and it takes them to Milwaukee.

We could call this the 'house in the middle' or 'the one that got away', seeing how it compares to the buildings around it. The charming villa is set in the heart of the Maltese city of Mosta. It has - somewhat surprisingly - remained untouched while around it apartment blocks have risen from the ashes of similarly elegant residences that had a less lucky fate. ABOUT The villa in Parish Street used to be a kindergarten and a primary school run by the Augustinian nuns of St. Monica over 60 years ago. There were two classes, one of each floor. Back in the day, some of the students who attended the school used to be scared of a ghost that was said to appear - maybe that of the family that used to live there but we forced to leave! RELIGIOUS GATHERINGS It was also used as a M.U.S.E.U.M for catechism classes and for meetings for girls that were part of the 'Figlie di Maria'. BABYSITTING When it was run by the nuns, one friend of Kappa Vision told us she used to baby-sit for them for three pence. PARISH PRIEST HOUSE Thank you to Adr Ian who told Kappa Vision that this place housed the first parish priest of Mosta. NOTABLE NUNS As with all schools, there was teachers or nuns (or both!) that students remember. In this case, the names of Suor Elenore and Suor Grazzja keep recurring, but if there are more you remember please let us know! NOTABLE FEATURES The house had a huge garden originally, before part of it was sold to make way for flats. The students used to love having their breaks in these gardens. There is a large balcony on the front, and a magnificent coat of arms of Mosta set in marble on the piece of road in front of it. It reads 'SPES ALIT RUBRICOLAM'. Kappa Vision's friend Nannu Pawlu told us that judging by the hat and tassel arrangement on the outside, it is a Bishop's coat of arms, with the writing meaning 'Hope sustains the farmer'. The house used to be surrounded by trees and narrow country lanes before the area was developed. PROUDLY OWNED AND WELL KEPT The villa is today a private residence that is today kept in pristine condition by its proud owners. Citizenship :Icelandic-Canadian. Or Canadian-Icelandic? She was born in Canada and gained an Icelandic citizenship later,as a preteen.
Languages:Learned a lot for various roles but is fully fluent in Icelandic and English.
Backstory:Nightwatcher bares the weight of not one but two family curses. The Nattehimmel’s are cursed(or arguably blessed) to live famous, luxurious lives, and the Blackburns are cursed to be just as famous, but suffer because of it. She is the daughter of Starstruck, one of the famous struck triplet, and a famous actress and entertainer,as well as Risingdarkness, who was a famous movie director, but didn’t suffer enough for his curse’s liking, and therefore became a famous unsolved murder case when Night was 13,she ended up finding his body the morning after the killing. She tries to ignore the Blackburn side of her curse, and generally tries to avoid talking about the suffering it may cause her,due to the curse attracting bizarre supernatural occurrences to her, that, though originally only effecting Night, began to effect her friends, and co-workers. She rose to fame expectedly quickly,as she was in the lime light ever since she was born, and started her acting career with Jekyll and Hyde the musical,as well as a few other roles, before moving up to movies such as Jennifer’s Body, that would push her popularity far enough for her to get the two roles said to have locked her in as an iconic actress for years to come,Natasha Romanoff in Ironman 2,and Amelia Earhart in Night at the museum 2,both characters she would go on to play many more times. She is currently as famous as ever, and doing her best to cover up the family curses she bares,as to not upset the public.
Personality:Night’s a weird woman. She talks fast and is quite snarky,a far cry from her mother’s gentle and maternal nature. She’s bad with…most, children, and has a passion for art, dance, acting, music and history. Having the typical ‘Dark type unshakability’ she is daring, and a risk taker, only truly scared of spiders, and will go to incredible lengths to get a role right. She’s known to be quite chaotic and a bit loud, but fun once you get to know her, able to talk for hours. She makes a genuine effort to be seen as friendly by the media, and loves to mess around with paparazzi,if they can even find her that is. She hides a lot of her suffering deep down, not wanting to admit that she too has the Blackburn family curse, not even to herself, and she would do nearly anything for the people she loves, even in the face of the weirdest nonsense brought on by her curse, such as being forced to live out the entirety of the MCU alongside her co-stars,something that would leave Night with permanent mental scars.
Facts:
Nightwatcher’s society given nickname comes from her uncannily similar markings and colours to her grandmother WatchfulNight
Night is left handed
Night have a blend of Dyslexia,ADHD and dyscalculia.
Night drinks tomato juice to help her get in character for Earhart. Night really really hates tomatoes but does it anyways.
Night owns a Fluffy white cat with brown stripes call Spirit!
Night’s favourite colour is purple.
Night can fly a plane. Whether or not she should be allowed to fly a plane with other people in it is up for debate
Night can play both the violin and the flute
Night has a lot of pent up aggression, she is usually pretty lax and forgiving but push her too far and she becomes a terrifying force to be reckoned with.
Night is severely allergic to Salmon and other red fish
Night has seasonal allergies so bad it makes other people think she has some kind of bronchitis
Night can’t eat eggs on their own, they have to be cooked/baked into something or else they make her really sick
Night is unmedicated for her ADHD,she used to take medication, but found that it just made her depression worse and stopped(night still thinks that you should take your meds though.)
Night has light sensitivity issues, typical for dark types. Bright lights tend to give her headache and her skin is very prone to sunburns,a trait shared by most other dark types. She’s nocturnal when she isn’t filming for a movie or show, due to this fact. When she does have to go outside during the day,she wears sunglasses and a lot of sunscreen unless she’s filming outside, then she just takes advil and hopes she doesn’t die.
Night was born an Umbreon. This condition is called ‘Pre-Birth Evolution syndrome’ aka PBES,and can happen with any Pokémon, although it is especially common with Dual Type Eeveelutions, due to the instability of their genetics. With Night’s mother being a Dark/Ice Eeveelution and her father being an umbreon,Night’s PBES makes sense.
Night keeps her hair long so she doesn’t get confused for Watchful, who is a Spy for the Canadian Government. Because the two look so similar at a glance,Night decided to always keep her hair longer then Watchful’s,to help reduce her chances of being mistaken for Watchful and attacked.
Night’s last name literally just translates to Night Sky
Her first name means something similar to ‘gift from good’
The name Nariyah was picked by her father. Night and her family pronounce it similar to Maria, but with an N.
Night’s father insisted that Night take the Nattehimmel family name in effort to protect her from the Blackburn family curse. Obviously didn’t work but an attempt was made.
Night was born the same year her grandmother SoaringShadow died in a piloting accident(1988)
Night has a condition that causes her body to produce to much insulin,so she eats a lot more then people expect but never seems to gain any weight
Mint chocolate and orange chocolate give her a headache
Would literally do anything for a good milk chocolate bar.
Still eats Kraft Dinner religiously, even if she’s rich. It’s tasty.
Base found from(traced over it hence the lack of water mark since it was otherwise unuseable in my regular art program and I’m too stubborn to change programs,once Again base is credited to Keyune);

Lois + her father
lol - by far the tensest relationship in the whole family largely because of how she left and because they’re really similar to one another. With Lucy, there’s been some attempts at reconciliation. With Elenor, there’s been an olive branch extended and some words exchanged now for a couple years. With General Lane? Lois fluctuates between digging stilettos into his side and puncturing a lung and going about her business pretending he doesn’t exist anymore.
Her disillusionment came with high school. For all of their life prior to their father becoming a 4 Star General the Lanes had lived outside of the US and only on military installments around the world. This led to some great exposure for the girls and certain aspects of their lives are all the better for it. However, this meant that the first time Lois lived off base was when she was 14. And the four Lanes moved off base to Washington D.C. in 1988. Overseas, especially on military installments, news of the home country can be slow in arriving or just not all that well broadcasted. This was the era before the internet where info travels super fast. Overseas meant you were sometimes uninformed, especially when your military father tended to keep the news off because when he came home, he just wanted to relax.
So, when they move to the US, Lois and Lucy are suddenly inundated with information and news. Lois begins to get regular newspapers, she watches CNN and all of those conglomerates. There’s an election that year and Lois gets to see how the tv channels handle that aspect of American politics. And it is all vibrantly new to her. The Lane girls also get to experience American Public Schools ( oh the joy ) and it is nothing like the movies the girls grew up thinking it was like. Lois enrolls in her first elective of her time in America - it’s journalism. And she is blown away with how serious her teacher wants these kids to be. Lois starts turning on the news at night, starts snagging the paper in the library when she’s at school early enough. When she starts to talk about the news at the dinner table, Elenor listens, Lucy eats, and Gen. Lane listens with a quarter of an ear. Until her rambling becomes too much and he hasks her not to bring up politics and the news at the dinner table - “We’re eating.”
Lois begins to shut down a bit. It’s awkward after that, but her dad hasn’t out right said “you’re wrong” even when Lois says she doesn’t agree with Reagan or Bush.
Sophomore year, when she’s working on the school paper with her fave teacher and writing actual articles by the mid-semester, is when the disillussionment really starts to set in. She’s talking about something anti-Bush and her father shuts her down. He berates her AND her favorite teacher and her points of view and she gets super upset about it. And unfortunately, Lois doesn’t really have anyone to turn to to hear her out. Her sister has joined JROTC. Her mom doesn’t do anything but brush her hair and say she should relax and not bring up this information to her father.
Lois realizes then that she doesn’t hold the same views as her dad on THIS topic, but she doesn’t completely lose him yet. Until this same reaction happens again and again and again and again. Lois cries herself to sleep and it’s during these episodes that she determines never to be so soft again that she gets like this.
So, that was her disillusionment, but as to how long it took to break wholly from General Lane’s way of thinking ... I’d say that settled itself by the end of high school/beginning of college. The consciously breaking away began in senior year of high school when He forced her to choose between her passion and her family. She chose her passion.
The sad thing about all this is that she was a TOTAL daddy’s girl when she was younger. And her dad loved her to bits and showed her off to everyone. “Hey, look at my kid who speaks 6 different languages.” “Hey, look at my daughter, the precocious firebrand.” “Hey, look at my kid going to beat up the other kid who just punched her. Aww, she’s about to give him a black eye. She’s the greatest.””Hey, look at my kid, the honor student.” Like, General Lane was the guy driving around with a “My student’s an honors student” bumper sticker and his coworkers gave him shit for it, but he was just so damn proud of his daughters. Gen. Lane and Lois went to Daddy-daughter dances. They played sometimes when Lane wasn’t dead on his feet tired.
Gen. Lane loves Lucy, but everyone KNEW how damn proud he was of his straight A daughter with the megawatt smile and the witty banter and the strength of an ox. Lois was the perfect child. Until high school.
Most officers know - especially after one former colleague was demoted for it - not to mention General Lane’s OTHER daughter. Lucy’s the apple of his eye and always has been. Has he told you about how she passed her tests with flying fucking colors?
#scioncfel#[[ and what do you think of her? ]]#[[ hey there daddy dearest ]]#[[ i am not my sister's keeper ]]#[[ she smells of warm bread honey and pepper flakes ]]#[lol this got SUPER long but here it is!]#[the Lane family saga continues]#.

Twenty Eight: Till The Wheels Fall Off
Charles Leclerc x Nova Teller (OC)
Till The Wheels Fall Off Masterlist
Small town meets the fast lane. What happens when two souls meet? Will it end in happiness or will they both crash and burn?
A/N so this is it, this is the final part of this series 🥺 I put so much of myself into this story and kinda sad it didn’t get more love but hey what can you do! I hope you have enjoyed following the journey of Charles and Nova!! They will forever hold a special interest pace in my heart ❤️
As always reblogs and feedback is highly appreciated ❤️ if you want tagging in future parts let me know ❤️
Christmas was now only three days away, it had always been my favorite season. Everything about it made me feel like a child again. The excitement of getting gifts, the ambiance of the tree lit up, the warm fuzzy feeling on the cold winter nights wrapped up with a large mug of hot chocolate. The whole festive period was full of magic and I couldn’t get enough.
But everything was different this year.
It was coming up on three months since we lost Pops and I was struggling to see the magic in anything, everything just reminded me of him.
Walking into my bedroom I found Charles routing through my wardrobe, tossing items of clothing at the open suitcase that was placed on top of my bed. “You won’t find anything in there that's your size,” I chuckled, shrugging off my dressing gown, hanging it on the back of the door.
“Haha, very funny,” Charles laughed, spinning around holding a very sparkly red dress. “Why have I never seen you in this before?”
“Because it was banished to the back of the closet for a reason,” I huffed, grabbing the dress from him, placing it back where it belonged. “I fell in love with it when I brought it but it just makes me feel so self conscious, plus I’ve gained weight since I brought it so I doubt it would fit me anymore.”
Charles slowly nodded at me, wrapping his arms around my waist. The smirk on his face was telling me he was up to something. “Can I ask why you are raiding my clothes and why is my suitcase on my bed?”
“It’s a surprise,” he winked, turning back to the task he was doing when I walked in. “I’m nearly done anyway so make sure you are wearing something comfy and meet me downstairs in ten.”
“You know I hate surprises right?” I huffed, folding my arms across my chest.
“Quit moaning, Sunshine and get your ass dressed.” he hummed.
“Fine, but if this is a shit surprise I will -”
“Rip my limbs off, I know that seems to be your go to punishment at the moment,” he laughed, finally closing my wardrobe.
Rolling my eyes at my boyfriend I pulled what I needed from my drawers before slipping into the bathroom to get ready. It didn’t take a genius to figure out he was planning some sort of trip which was why I found myself putting a bit more effort in my appearance knowing that wherever we were going there would more than likely be press hanging around.
I could hear everyone moaning at the bottom of the stairs as I made my way down.
“I hope your time keeping is better when you are working,” Charles hummed, cocking his brow at me. “because Fred will skin you alive.”
“Baby, you are forgetting Fred loves me, I’m the favorite. He would cover up a murder and help me hide the body if I asked him to.” I smirked, poking my tongue out at him.
Hours had passed and no one was telling me where we were going, looking around the cabin of the private jet I realized both Charles and Elenor were asleep but there was the soft glow from a phone coming from where Jax was sitting. Kicking the blanket off my body I pushed myself up to my feet making my way over to my brother.
“What’s up Squirt?” he asked, pulling out his headphones, pausing whatever movie he was watching .
“Just thinking about the future,” I whispered, settling on the seat next to him, resting my head on his shoulder. “I haven’t told Charles yet but I am actually nervous about starting with Ferrari at the start of the season.”
“Kiddo, you are gonna do amazing,” Jax whispered, gently squeezing my hand. “I don’t know why you kept your talent of photography a secret for all these years. Plus everyone already loves you.”
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at my older brother, “you are just saying that because we are family.” I scoffed.
“I am being serious and obviously Fred loves your work otherwise he wouldn’t have hired you.”
“I guess you are right,” I shrugged, trying to hide the yawn that escaped my lips.
“Squirt, I’m always right,” he smirked, pressing a kiss to the top of my head. “Why don’t you try and get some sleep.”
I was going to fight it but my body was screaming at me to get some rest, I had no idea what Charles was planning so decided Jax was once again right. Soon enough I found myself next to Charles, automatically I snuggled into his warm body letting his heartbeat be the soothing sound I needed to finally drift off to sleep.
Charles was a sneaky devil, the first thing I was surprised about was how I had no idea how he managed to plan a trip to Monaco to spend Christmas with his family without me realizing anything was going on, but it was like he knew what I needed. As much as I loved Charming and it would always be my home I needed to get away from it for a bit, in fact we all did, especially with it being the first Christmas without Pops. The second thing was he had packed the red dress that I told him had been banished to the back of the closet for the rest of eternity.
I couldn’t believe I agreed to try it on but the moment he slowly fastened the zipper on the back I was shocked. The dress fitted better now than it ever did when I first brought it. I was adamant this would never fit me again but one look in the mirror and I was practically reduced to tears. The moment I locked eyes with Charles through the reflection I finally felt beautiful, quietly and without me even realizing it the man I called my boyfriend had single handedly rebuilt my confidence bit by bit.
“Come on then, Sunshine, let's go for a walk,” he hummed, pressing a kiss against my cheek.
“Don’t you think we are a bit overdressed for a walk?” I questioned, spinning round letting my arms wrap around his neck.
“We are in Monaco, some people might think you are under dressed.”
“And what do you think, Mr Leclerc?” I purred, brushing my nose against his.
“Absolutely radiant,” he whispered, his lips gazing mine and his eyes darkening slightly as he spoke. “If I didn’t have plans for us I would be tearing it off with my teeth.”
Leaning up so I was on my tiptoes I brushed my lips against the shell of his ear feeling him shiver under my touch, “If that's the case I’d rather stay right here.”
“Stop being a tease, Teller,” he growled, tightening his grip on my hips. “I have something special planned so get that ass moving.”
The streets of Monaco looked absolutely stunning under the moonlight, I was slowly starting to feel the magic of Christmas returning. For once in my life I didn’t care if the press snapped a picture of me and Charles, nothing mattered at that moment.
Soon enough we came to the sea front and Charles came to a stop, swiftly kicking off his shoes and socks, “fancy a walk on the beach?” he asked, for some reason he was nervously looking around but I didn’t think anything of it
“Why not it’s a beautiful night,” I beamed, taking his hand as I pushed my heels off my feet.
There was no one else around making everything feel more romantic, like there was no one else on the planet and it was just me and Charles.
As we were walking across the sand I let my mind wander. The past five months had been an utter whirlwind, never in a million years did I think I would end up dating someone, let alone Charles Leclerc. I always refused to believe in soulmates, to me it was something companies made up to get money out of gullible couples but that all changed the moment Charles came speeding into my life. He caused my world to shift on its axis, he was the one who made me love again and if anyone asked if I believed in soulmates my answer was yes because Charles was mine. There was something about our connection that I couldn’t explain, it was like our souls had danced together in a previous lifetime.
Once again Charles came to a standstill, dropping our shoes onto the warm sand. “Nova Teller,” he whispered, taking my hands in his.
“Charles Leclerc,” I giggled, causing a large smile to appear on his beautiful face.
“The moment you came crashing into the bar reciting the Monza commentary I was drawn to you, I couldn’t get you out of my head. That night I found myself watching you move gracefully around the bar, laughing and joking with everyone.”
My heart started pounding against my chest as I realized what he was doing, this was the reason he wanted to dress up, why he wanted to go for a random walk on Christmas eve. Tears threatened to spill over my lash line as I found myself biting my tongue wanting to let him finish.
“I never thought I had a chance with you if I was being honest, but here we are spending one of many beautiful nights together. I have never loved anyone as much as I loved you. I made a vow to myself that I was never going to let myself fall in love again but that all changed the moment I laid eyes on you.” His eyes were glistening from unshed tears in the moonlight, his movements were slow as he dropped to one knee, pulling out a red velvet box from his jacket pocket.
My hand flew to my mouth as the tears started to fall. Never in a million years did I think I would get a moment like this and here I was experiencing it with Charles Leclerc.
“I couldn’t tell you at the time but this was the reason I had a call with JT, I didn’t want to do this without his blessing and Sunshine the first words out of his mouth was ‘it took you long enough to ask’” he chuckled, as he finally opened the box to reveal the most stunning ring I had ever seen. “So I’m not going to make you wait any longer, Nova Teller, will you be my wife, will you marry me?”
It was like the words got caught in my throat and the only thing I could do was nod my head like a madwoman. After what felt like an eternity I finally found my words. “Yes Char,” I whispered, tears streaming down my cheeks as he slid the ring onto my finger. My heart was bursting with love, especially knowing that he rang Pops to make sure he had his blessing.
Once the ring was sat in the right position Charles pushed himself to his feet, pulling me in for the most passionate kiss we had ever had. I felt like I was in one of those cheesy rom coms, but it was perfection, better than I could have ever dreamt of. Slowly I pulled away from Charles resting my forehead against his, giving myself a chance to catch my breath from the kiss.
The man standing in my arms was the one who never stopped believing in me, and I was proud to call him my fiancé “Thank you for being here and not giving up on me,” I whispered, letting my eyes flutter close.
“Sunshine, I’m not going anywhere, plus you have said you will be my wife so baby you are kinda stuck with me now,” he hummed, running his fingers through my hair. He paused for a second, pressing a tender kiss to the top of my head. Nothing could match this feeling. For the first time in the past three months I realized there was light at the end of the tunnel. I knew I was going to be alright, as long as I had my family behind me and Charles standing by my side. I couldn’t prepare myself for the next five words to pass his lips, but it was the words I needed to hear from the man I loved.
“Till the wheels fall off.”

The one where we explore all the facets of what makes me, me. one by one....
Write about your name. Where did it come from? What does it mean?
While Emily was the third most popular baby name of 1995, I’ve always felt at home in it. Maybe it isn’t the name when it stands alone, but Emily Louella Lanthorne certainly has a ring to it. I’ve always made a joke that the universe made me a girl so I wouldn’t face insufferable embarrassment. My mother and father had the name Tantor picked out if I was a male, and while it was picked years before the Disney animated film Tarzan was created, it never really had a ring to it. My middle name Louella is something I’m sure my mother made up. A combination of my Grandfather’s name Louis and my great-grandmother Elenor. My mother monster mashed the two most important branches of our family tree into one. My last name Lanthorne is a little more muddied. It’s an old English word for lantern and I’m unsure whether we have any family history in the business, but I’ve always taken it as my sign to light the way for anyone who comes along my path.
2. When and where were you born?
I’m not sure where exactly I was born, but I’m sure the firework smoke was thick in the air. I like to imagine my mother drugged up on epidurals watching the bright lights of fireworks going off in-between contractions. I’m a July 5th baby which means for many years of my life my birthday was coupled in with beach trips and hot dogs. Over the years I’ve learned to stop resenting the light show and have instead decided to revel in the beauty of the lights.
3. Write about your Mom. What would you want people to know?
I know everyone writes about their mom being the most selfless person in the world and the epitome of unconditional love. I would want every to know that my mother isn’t perfect. She’s rough around the edges. She’s made mistakes in her life and in mine. She neglected me when I’ve needed her most, and she’s been selfish in ways I haven’t been able to understand even years later. But she is the greatest gift I have ever received from the universe. She has taught me what it means to grow, and to backtrack, to lose everything, to admit your mistakes and continue on growing. She’s naive in the way that a child is. She believes in people like she’s never been hurt, she believes in people the way children do. I’ve watched her destroy herself, literally crumble to ashes and take down everyone with her, in order to take care of the people she loves. She will give you everything she has, every penny, every ounce of effort, blessings, and spirit, and when you come knocking one more time she’ll give you the very last breath of air from her lungs. She’s a no questions asked, pick you up from a drop location, discuss it in the morning phone call at 2 am. My mother has been the reason I cry myself to sleep and my one of my warmest hugs. She’s shown me humility is far more meaningful than being right and that asking for forgiveness is the easiest way to communicate “I’m sorry I fucked up”.
4. Write about you Dad. What would you want people to know?
My dad is hard for me to write about. I hated him most of my life growing up. I resented the way he treated me, the way he wasn’t ever there unless it served him, and the way he fought with my mother. But when I look back on my relationship with my father I can see the love oozing from the cracks in my perception of our relationship. As an adult, I look back and I know the weekly Friday Pokemon sessions, the buttered white bread Kraft dinners, and the way he threw himself into our small interests were the way in which he was screaming I love you. I know now that he rested with demons and regrets that I couldn’t understand when I was young, but he never let us go without. It’s funny how when you’re older you can look back and make connections between the way people struggled and the way they make sure the people they loved would never have to. When my father was growing up he was dirt poor. When he moved from Ohio to Orlando his parents forced him to sell all his toys in a garage sale. I think that’s why every Christmas it didn’t matter what we asked for, he always figured out how to make it happen. I want people to know that I love my father, even when I don’t know how to deal with our past
5. Do you have any siblings? Write about them.
Rebecca is really truly the embodiment of everything I wish I could be in life. I know that younger sisters are supposed to look up to their older sisters but it’s always been the opposite for us. Rebecca has always and will always be true to herself. She’s a magical pixie entity that gives zero fucks about what society thinks. She conscious in the way she consumes, she thinks outside of herself, and she never takes things too seriously. She’s been my balance for a very long time, and I wish I had been a better sibling to her. I know for a very long time in our relationship I let her down. There were so many things I should have been there for that I wasn’t. I hope I have the rest of our lives to make that up to her.
6. Where did you grow up? What do you remember from that place?
I grew up on 120 Margo Lane Longwood Florida. I grew up in the same house that my mother did and it’s the only house I’ve ever know. I remember 3 giant pine trees that made shade for our trampoline. I remember the giant hill that I learned to ride my bike on in the back of the neighborhood and later fell down causing a concussion. I remember the merry go round and the swings that eventually replaced it. I remember the trail that I ran on, biked on, cried on. I remember the microwave that only worked in increments of 40. I remember watching my mother renovate the entire house, one summer at a time. I remember the smell of cigarettes and Michelob ultra, and I remember pressing my ear against the wall listening over the screams to make sure they weren’t hurting each other physically. I remember playing PlayStation early in the morning while my mother made her infamous burnt bottom biscuits and my dad scrambled eggs.
I know that this has been an anchor for when I’ve felt lost and when I had no where else to go. It was a place I was embarrassed by for so long in my life, a representation that we were never quite wealthy enough, but now I find myself missing the humble halls of where I grew up.
