Amarande who was born at the castle and then Luca who was taken to the castle as a refugee from a collapsing kingdom and they grew up together since they were Itty bitty

Ula & Urtzi:

Ula who ended up in an orphanage because her mother went off on a mission (and later died) and then her father died and then Urtzi who also ended up in the orphanage and cut in front of her in the supper line so 4 yo Ula stabbed him in the neck with a fork

Ferdinand & Osana:

Ferdinand (an affair child) who was kidnapped from Koldo by Geneva and took him to grow up in the warlord camp and Osana who her and her sister who also grew up in the warlord camp because of their father and were spies for the warlord (geneva) and they both knew each other as children

Ula held her tray, waiting for her turn in the line. It was hard adjusting to life in the orphanage. She missed her father deeply. And she may never know if her mother ever came back. Maybe her mother enjoyed her new life better than her old one. Maybe she had passed.

No matter the reason, she was here now. Crowded with too many other children.

The line dragged on. There had to be at least twenty other kids in front. Her stomach growled and she sighed. But a boy who was at least a foot taller than her shimmied on in the line in front of her. Oh no, he just didn't.

Never mind the fact he cut in front of her. But there were several smaller kids behind her who were also hungry.

Before thinking out the consequences of her actions, she swept up the fork from her tray. It was made of hard steel, not the cheap stuff. She sunk it straight into the soft flesh behind his ear.

He yelled and spun around. Brown eyes settling on her. The fork was still stuck in his dark skin

The other kids around her gasped and began shuffling away. Ula wanted to do the same, but then she'd look weak. The last thing she wanted was to look cowardice.

She sucked in a breath and willed her hands not to shake. "Back off, you oaf! We're just as hungry as you are."

He narrowed his eyes. Ula braced herself for retaliation. But all the boy did was snatch the fork out, and drop it on the ground. He stalked away, hand cupped on four bleeding punctures.

When Ula finally settled at her table, she realized she didn't have a fork anymore. That didn't matter. She could eat with her hands.

But she saw a familiar face at the end of the table. The boy she stabbed was sulking. She guessed he was too embarrassed to go back in the line.

She slid down several seats until she sat across from him. He was holding a damp cloth against his wound. His gaze flicked up to her, immediately on edge.

"What's your name?" She asked him.

"Urtzi." He glared. "Yours?"

"Ula."

Ula didn't know why she took pity on him. Maybe it was the fact he was sat by himself, too, but she took her piece of fruit and slid it to him. Urtzi was hesitant in taking it. He glanced up, waiting for the catch.

"If you're not going to eat it, I'm wanting it back," she warned.

He took the apple and crunched into it. He maintained eye contact, as if she'd stick another fork in him if he didn't keep an eye out. It was probably smart.

"Thanks," Urtzi murmured, mouth full.

He didn't apologize for cutting in line. She didn't apologize for stabbing him. But the gesture got the point across.
