"The Implications of Trump Vance 2024 for Swing State Voters"
"Trump Vance 2024" represents a speculative presidential ticket combining former President Donald Trump with J.D. Vance, the newly elected U.S. Senator from Ohio. This hypothetical pairing reflects the evolving dynamics within the Republican Party and ongoing discussions about its future direction.

Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, remains a dominant force in Republican politics despite his 2020 election loss. His potential return to the presidential race in 2024 continues to be a subject of intense speculation and debate.
J.D. Vance, author of the bestselling memoir "Hillbilly Elegy," transitioned from Trump critic to supporter during his successful 2022 Senate campaign. His journey mirrors shifts within segments of the Republican Party, potentially making him an attractive running mate option.
This theoretical ticket would aim to blend Trump's established base and populist appeal with Vance's credentials as a younger, intellectual conservative voice. It could potentially broaden the party's appeal, particularly in crucial Midwest swing states like Ohio.

The "Trump Vance 2024" concept also highlights the Republican Party's efforts to unite different factions - from Trump loyalists to more traditional conservatives. It suggests a strategy of combining Trump's confrontational style with Vance's ability to articulate conservative ideas to a different audience.
However, it's important to note that this pairing remains purely speculative. Trump has not officially announced a 2024 run, and vice presidential selections typically occur much later in the campaign process. The concept primarily serves as a talking point, reflecting ongoing discussions about the future of Republican leadership and strategy.

Here's my thing. If you have lost all faith in the democratic party and do not want to vote for their candidate, I get it. I really do. But you have to have some kind of plan. Not voting at all isn't going to make any kind of statement to the people in power. It's not an effective boycott because it's not disrupting anything. It's not making your voice heard, like voting uncommitted was in the primary.
Do you live in a blue state? Great! Which 3rd party candidate are you organizing for? Jill Stein? Cornell West? Claudia De La Cruz? Pick one and start organizing for them. If you can get at least 5% of the country (which means about 807,000 of your fellow like-minded leftists in blue areas) on board with one specific candidate, that candidate receives a boost in federal campaign funding in the next election cycle. Choose someone who is willing to use their platform in the next 10 years to promote ranked-choice voting on the federal level so that we don't keep having this same discussion every fucking election cycle.
Speaking of which, voting in your local and state elections is key to getting those initiatives on the ballot in the first place! Do your research on local candidates. Go to town hall meetings. Volunteer at a phone bank. Start getting people into positions of power who are willing to fight to get your long-term goals met.
I truly do empathize with people who cannot bring themselves to vote for someone who has been complicit in genocide and feel as though their vote does nothing for democrats anyway. But guys, we have to stop being so short-sighted and defeatist about this. Abstaining completely from the electoral system does nothing to bring attention to the situation in Gaza and the West Bank. If you can't vote for Kamala, figure out who you WILL vote for, and start getting other people on board. Because voting third-party also does nothing if they get 0.3% of the vote nationally. We need to start being smart about using the momentum that leftist politics have gained in the younger population in recent years.
#us politics#kamala harris#donald trump#current events#joe biden#third party#btw this isnt addressed at the people who are currently organizing for these or other third party candidates#this is specifically geared towards the people that are refusing to vote or get involved at all#and especially @ the people that say anyone willing to vote for kamala isnt a 'real leftist'#like. come on now.#especially those of us in red counties or states there is a clear choice here#and i truly believe people are currently more willing to organize than ever before#this could be a historic election for third parties if we get our heads out of the tiktok sand for a few months#2024 elections

happy election eve, uk folks!
going to give a shoutout to https://voteforpolicies.org.uk/—their quiz is a super useful summary of the largest parties’ stances on various policies (you can pick the topics that matter to you and do a little quiz where it removes their names so you vote unbiased, and then it gives you your results), and even if you end up voting tactically, it is *extremely* useful and interesting to get a succinct summary of what the various policies are in different fields (spoilers: reform are extremely easy to spot and utterly terrible, and there’s… lots of transphobic policies.)
also bit of a shoutout to https://tactical.vote/ which is just ‘get the tories out’, and will probably tell you to vote Labour in most constituencies in England which yknow you may not want to do bc *gestures at Labour*, BUT it is a handy place to see both the 2019 results and recent polling for your constituency. do with that what you will.
see you at the polls tomorrow, and don’t forget ID! we ARE getting the tories out tomorrow, and we keep building after that bc the world and activism and change does not start or end at westminster and electoral politics will only take us so far! replacing the tories (particularly with Labour) will not fix all our problems (we will retain many of the same problems, have you seen those policies?) and we have to keep actually… doing shit, taking action, getting out there, not letting the name of the party sway us.
also, not going to tell anyone how to vote – make the decision that makes sense for you and your constituency, tho I feel like my stance is pretty clear here – but tomorrow I’m wearing green, yknow? 🌱
#ukpol#2024 is an experience#uk elections#text post#my post#apologies for the electoral politics post I know it’s all fucked and flawed at the moment#esp when we’re gearing up for a Labour victory which is… idk even what that means at this point#but yeah#idk it’s a good day to vote with your heart and ethics and hopefully send a message#the whole system is fucked tho#we go and we vote and then we get out there and keep making actual change#where it is needed and where it’s going to make a difference and where we have power#yknow?#we don’t fulfill all our duties or tick off our activism by voting#cause fuck knows the options that are gonna win are shit#so we do this thing and then we focus on the next thing and we move#but also I’d like the Tories out if only for a bit of a change#I’m sleepy idk if my tags make sense

FBI warns voters about inauthentic movies regarding election safety
The FBI issued an announcement on Saturday about misleading movies circulating forward of the election, saying it’s conscious of two such movies “falsely claiming to be from the FBI regarding election safety.” That features one claiming the FBI had “apprehended three linked teams committing poll fraud,” and one about Kamala Harris’ husband. Each depict false content material, the FBI…

Eight years ago I was so deeply invested in the American presidential election, I listen to multiple weekly podcasts, I was on twitter, I checked the polling updates, read the articles, watched the news, I could tell you the political happenings of every week of 2016, and we were on the road for a large portion of it so we had to work for it. We watched one of the presidential debates in a Las Vegas Panera before heading back to our campsite. I did something similar for the 2020 election because jesus christ what a fucking Historical Year. Now it’s 2024, and gearing up for the grind once more is such a dismal feeling. I don’t want to have to have an opinion on Nicky Haley’s viability as republican candidate. I don’t want to follow another twelve Trump trials. I don’t want to watch everyone even slightly left of center once again devour each other as we polarize about it’s a bigger war crime to vote for Biden or not vote for Biden. Everything is going to get so unpleasant and it’s so important and the stakes are so high and it’s gonna suck the whole time. I’m trying to think of one funny thing that could plausibly happen that would fill me with joy and not terror for the future of America and also the world, and so far I’ve only come up with Jeb Bush giving a presidential campaign another go.

Don't risk a rerun of the 2000 election.
In the first presidential election of the 21st century many deluded progressives voted for Green Party candidate Ralph Nader.
Their foolishness gave us eight years of George W. Bush who plagued the country with two recessions (including the Great Recession) and two wars (one totally unnecessary and one which could have been avoided if he heeded an intelligence brief 5 weeks before 9/11).
Oh yeah, Dubya also appointed one conservative and one batshit crazy reactionary to the US Supreme Court. Roberts and Alito are still there.
Paul Waldman of the Washington Post offers some thoughts.
Why leftists should work their hearts out for Biden in 2024
Ask a Democrat with a long memory what the numbers 97,488 and 537 represent, and their face will twist into a grimace. The first is the number of votes Ralph Nader received in Florida in 2000 as the nominee of the Green Party; the second is the margin by which George W. Bush was eventually certified the winner of the state, handing him the White House. Now, with President Biden gearing up for reelection, talk of a spoiler candidate from the left is again in the air. That’s unfortunate, because here’s the truth: The past 2½ years under Biden have been a triumph for progressivism, even if it’s not in most people’s interest to admit it. This was not what most people expected from Biden, who ran as a relative moderate in the 2020 Democratic primary. His nomination was a victory for pragmatism with its eyes directed toward the center. But today, no one can honestly deny that Biden is the most progressive president since at least Lyndon B. Johnson. His judicial appointments are more diverse than those of any of his predecessors. He has directed more resources to combating climate change than any other president. Notwithstanding the opposition from the Supreme Court, his administration has moved aggressively to forgive and restructure student loans.
Three years ago the economy was in horrible shape because of Trump's mishandling of the pandemic. Now unemployment is steadily below 4%, job creation continues to exceed expectations, and wages are rising as unions gain strength. The post-pandemic, post-Afghan War inflation rate has receded to near normal levels; people in the 1970s would have sold their souls for a 3.2% (and dropping) inflation rate. And many of the effects of "Bidenomics" have yet to kick in.
And in a story that is criminally underappreciated, his administration’s policy reaction to the covid-induced recession of 2020 was revolutionary in precisely the ways any good leftist should favor. It embraced massive government intervention to stave off the worst economic impacts, including handing millions of families monthly checks (by expanding the child tax credit), giving all kids in public schools free meals, boosting unemployment insurance and extending health coverage to millions.
It worked. While inflation rose (as it did worldwide), the economy’s recovery has been blisteringly fast. It took more than six years for employment rates to return to what they were before the Great Recession hit in 2008, but we surpassed January 2020 jobs levels by the spring of 2022 — and have kept adding jobs ever since. To the idealistic leftist, that might feel like both old news and a partial victory at best. What about everything supporters of Bernie Sanders have found so thrilling about the Vermont senator’s vision of the future, from universal health care to free college? It’s true Biden was never going to deliver that, but to be honest, neither would Sanders had he been elected president. And that brings me to the heart of how people on the left ought to think about Biden and his reelection.
Biden has gotten things done. The US economy is doing better than those of almost every other advanced industrialized country.
Our rivals China and Russia are both worse off than they were three years ago. And NATO is not just united, it's growing.
Sadly, we still need to deal with a far right MAGA cult at home who would wreck the country just to get its own way.
Biden may be elderly and unexciting, but that is one of the reasons he won in 2020. Many people just wanted an end to the daily drama of Trump's capricious and incompetent rule by tweet. And a good portion of those people live in places that count greatly in elections – suburbs and exurbs.
Superhero films seem to be slipping in popularity. Hopefully that's a sign that voters are less likely to embrace self-appointed political messiahs to save them from themselves.
Good governance is a steady process – not a collection of magic tricks. Experienced and competent individuals who are not too far removed from the lives of the people they represent are the best people to have in government.
Paul Waldman concludes his column speaking from the heart as a liberal...
I’ve been in and around politics for many years, and even among liberals, I’ve almost always been one of the most liberal people in the room. Yet only since Biden’s election have I realized that I will probably never see a president as liberal as I’d like. It’s not an easy idea to make peace with. But it suggests a different way of thinking about elections — as one necessary step in a long, difficult process. The further you are to the left, the more important Biden’s reelection ought to be to you. It might require emotional (and policy) compromise, but for now, it’s also the most important tool you have to achieve progressive ends.
Exactly. Rightwingers take the long view. It took them 49 years but they eventually got Roe v. Wade overturned. To succeed, we need to look upon politics as an extended marathon rather as one short sprint.
Republicans may currently be bickering, but they will most likely unite behind whichever anti-abortion extremist they nominate.
It's necessary to get the word out now that the only way to defeat climate-denying, abortion-restricting, assault weapon-loving, race-baiting, homophobic Republicans is to vote Democratic.

Former Trump official warns ex-president is gearing up to claim 'rigged' election again
Donald Trump and his allies are preparing to make claims of election and voter fraud if he loses in November - according to election experts and a number of old-school Republicans.
Mesa, Arizona Mayor John Giles, a Republican who has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, said that if Trump loses, he and his associates “will throw everything at the wall and see what sticks,” according to The Guardian.
“They’ll claim everything went wrong if they lose. I’d be surprised if Trump doesn’t try to incite insurrection if he loses the election,” the mayor said.
Both Trump and his allies are pushing the same lies as they did in 2020 about voting machines and drop boxes, but they’re now also attacking prosecutors on the state and federal levels who have charged the former president for trying to overturn the election. They have claimed that the charges against Trump amount to “election interference” and “lawfare” in attempts to paint the former president’s legal woes as political prosecution.
David Becker at the Center for Election Innovation and Research told The Guardian that “A lot of false claims are masquerading as efforts to change policy to improve election integrity when in actuality they’re just designed to sow distrust in our system if Trump loses.”
“This is all designed to manufacture claims that if Trump loses, the election was stolen and to sow discord, chaos, and potential violence,” he added.
The right-wing organization Turning Point USA claims to be spending tens of millions on getting out the vote for Trump in important battleground states, also hosting several large rallies where false allegations that the 2020 election was rigged are still being shared.
Both in 2016 and 2020, Trump was unclear if he would accept the election results. Similarly, at the presidential debate with President Joe Biden on June 27, he said that he would accept the results if the election is “fair and legal.” That response came after he was asked three times about accepting the results and shortly afterward he yet again claimed that American elections are fraudulent.
In April, Trump hosted House Speaker Mike Johnson at Mar-a-Lago for an event prompting the lower chamber to pass legislation making it illegal for noncitizens to vote – something that was already outlawed and in the past has happened on a very small scale.
The group True the Vote sent out a fundraising request in March pointing to their attempts to put together “arguments for litigation” as well as other measures to take aim at what they claim will be “chaos” around the election because of “illegal voter registrations.”
Both election experts and Republican stalwarts have told The Guardian that Trump and his allies are preparing to claim that November’s election has been rigged if the former president loses the election.
Former Republican Michigan Representative Dave Trott told the paper that “Trump continues to encourage his supporters like Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA to question the integrity of our elections.”
“He has no evidence or basis for claiming fraud and is only perpetuating these lies so he has a plan B to disrupt democracy in the event he loses,” he added.
Former Republican Pennsylvania Representative Charlie Dent told The Guardian that he believes Trump will claim fraud again if he loses in November.
“I expect he will do the same thing in 2024,” he said. “If he loses he will raise Cain in state capitals and he will descend on state capitals with his allies to make the case for fraud.”

WHO CAN BLAME HIM ? After 2016!
TRUMP IS DOING THIS HIS WAY AND THAT IS THAT! TRUMP 2024!
Trump Campaign May Decline Feds' Transition Help
By Charlie McCarthy | Thursday, 29 August 2024 11:28 AM EDT
The Trump campaign reportedly is prepared to pass on receiving transition help from the federal General Services Administration (GSA) in anticipation of President Donald Trump winning the November election.
The GSA normally plays a role in the transition from one administration to the another. It provides office space, technology, and other back-end support that can be crucial to a presidential transition operation.
Trump, the Republican nominee, is opposing Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democrat nominee, in the race for the White House.
Politico reported Thursday that with an Aug. 31 deadline looming, sources say the Trump team is poised to reject GSA assistance.
While transitions kick into high gear after Election Day, when a president-elect must begin selecting and vetting about 4,000 federal political appointees, success depends on the infrastructure built during the pre-election period, including identifying agency review teams, and beginning the background check process for national security staff.
GSA is required by law to make available federal office space, IT support, and other resources to transition teams, but only once it has entered into memoranda of understanding with representatives for each nominee, which Congress requires the agency to do "to the maximum extent practicable," by Sept. 1.
A GSA spokesperson confirmed that the agency had made its offer to the two candidates.
The Trump campaign, though, has concerns about working with
GSA.
First, accepting GSA help means adhering to $5,000-per-donor contribution limits in funding overall costs that can exceed $10 million. Trump allies would prefer fewer people cutting bigger checks.
Second, Politico reported that Trump's team does not trust the GSA after what it experienced in 2016, when there were leaks of potential administration hires and widespread dismay with the agency's decision to hand over transition records to special counsel Robert Mueller.
Some Trump allies blamed federal workers for the leaks.
"The GSA presidential transition support model has run its course and either campaign should have the option to operate their transitions independently in order to have the most flexibility for fundraising, information security, and operations," Ken Nahigian, executive director of Trump's 2016 transition, told Politico.
Trump campaign spokesman Brian Hughes told Politico that no final decision has been made regarding GSA this time around.
"With transition leadership in place, and many talented leaders to work with, President Trump will have what he needs to build a world-class and effective administration starting on day one," Hughes said.
Partnership for Public Service President Max Stier told Politico that GSA could help with quickly arranging security clearances and in preventing cyberattacks.
Stier added that a transition organization without GSA could be set up as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, meaning no public financial disclosures.
The Associated Press contributed to this story.

The Harris campaign kicks into high gear
July 26, 2024
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
Kamala Harris has the Trump campaign on its back foot. Whatever Trump’s advisers expected from V.P. Harris, they were wrong. Although Trump and his surrogates have tried several lines of attack, each attempt backfires as Trump offends important constituencies he needs to win. In attacking Kamala Harris, Trump is offending Black Americans, successful women, mothers raising blended families, couples trying to conceive, young people, and more. The Harris campaign has responded forcefully, using a pointed sense of humor that is refreshing and attractive to younger voters who see the internet as a battlefield of ideas.
On Thursday, the Harris campaign released a powerful television ad that was a “no-holds-barred” look at the threat to democracy posed by Trump. See The Guardian, ‘We choose freedom’: Kamala Harris campaign launches first ad. The ad is embedded in The Guardian article; I urge you to watch it. If you don’t, here is The Guardian’s description of the ad:
Released on Thursday morning, the ad opens with shots of Harris’s smiling face behind a podium, the word Kamala, the word Harris, and the American flag. The soundtrack is the beginning of Beyoncé’s song Freedom, to which Harris entered and exited her first speech to campaign staffers after gaining lightning speed momentum on the road to becoming the presumptive nominee. The ad is narrated by Harris, whose first words are, “In this election we each face a question. What kind of country do we want to live in?” She continues: “There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos. Of fear. Of hate,” she says, over shots of Trump and JD Vance. “But us, we choose something different.”
On social media, the Harris campaign has been even more aggressive. The Harris campaign took a clip of Trump imitating Kamala Harris, saying, “I’m the prosecutor and he is the convicted felon.” After Trump admits that he is a convicted felon and Harris is a prosecutor, the ad immediately cuts to a picture of Kamala Harris with her voice saying, “I am Kamala Harris and I approve this message.” The Harris campaign is showing early signs of social media savvy—just as Barack Obama’s campaign did in 2008.
The Harris campaign also went after JD Vance, who described Kamala Harris in 2021 as a “childless cat lady” who should not have an equal voice in the future of America because she does not have biological children. (Harris is a stepmother to two children with Doug Emhoff.) Thursday was “In Vitro Fertilization Day.” The Harris campaign released a statement saying, “Happy World IVF Day To Everyone Except JD Vance.” See HuffPo, Harris Campaign Wishes Happy World IVF Day To Everyone Except 1 Person.
The confidence and swagger of that ad was reflected in the Harris campaign’s immediate acceptance of debate with Donald Trump, set for September 10. But as Kamala Harris demonstrated an eagerness to debate, Trump began hedging his bets, saying he “did not like the idea” of a debate on ABC. See CNBC, ‘Let’s go’: Harris agrees to debate Trump, accuses him of ‘backpedaling’ on Sept. 10 date.
The Harris campaign also used social media to troll Trump's morning appearance on Fox News, during which Trump called Kamala Harris “garbage.” The Harris campaign issued a press release entitled Statement on a 78-Year-Old Criminal’s Fox News Appearance. The press release said,
After watching Fox News this morning we only have one question, is Donald Trump ok? Trump is old and quite weird [and] this guy shouldn’t be president ever again.
For their part, Trump and his surrogates were reduced to claiming that Kamala Harris is a “DEI hire,” a “failed border czar,” and a socialist who will destroy the economy of America.
Luckily for Kamala Harris, economic growth and border security both improved in the second quarter. On Thursday, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that the gross domestic product grew at a 2.8% rate in the second quarter, well above the consensus prediction of 1.9% by economists. See USA Today, US GDP report: Latest data shows economy grew 2.8% in Q2 (usatoday.com)
At the border, crossings by immigrants dropped to their lowest level since 2020 (under Donald Trump). See CBS News, Migrant crossings continue to plunge, nearing the level that would lift Biden's border crackdown. Per CBS News,
July is on track to see the fifth consecutive monthly drop in migrant apprehensions along the U.S.-Mexico border and the lowest level in illegal immigration there since the fall of 2020, during the Trump administration, the internal Department of Homeland Security figures show.
My point in noting the responses by the Harris campaign is not to revel in the “zingers” and “smackdowns” that are long overdue. Rather, it is to highlight the nimbleness, swagger, and professionalism of the Harris campaign. The lightning-quick responses would be exemplary for any presidential campaign; they are stunning for a presidential campaign that is four days old.
Although it is still early, it seems clear that the Harris campaign will focus on Trump's criminality, incoherence, age, and hateful agenda. And it is doing so with a satirical edge that transfers easily into internet memes—which is an effective way to create viral messaging that reaches young people. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign has been caught flat-footed, trying to ignore the awkward creepiness of JD Vance and Trump's part-time approach to campaigning.
