Deepeeka Egyptian Khopesh Demo Review | Kult of Athena
Visit Kult of Athena to check out this Kopesh.
The Khopesh, or sickle-shaped sword of the Pharaohs, has a long and interesting history dating back over 4 millennia. It was first used against Egypt by the Hyksos from Assyria before being adopted as a weapon by the Egyptians themselves - with many examples found in royal tombs including that of King Tut.
Extremely curved, most often single-edged but also double, the weapon was most often carried by the infantry and used as a chopping and hacking weapon.

Happy Birthday Nebby!
@nebbychan -- As per your suggestion of doing something with your Modern AU takes on Dan and Kiya from MediEvil (specifically "Maybe the two chatting at a museum about their favorite time periods (Dan can brag about his minor degree in Medieval Studies and Kiya can do the same with her Egyptology studies)"), here's the pair at a museum, specifically chatting about Medieval European and Ancient Egyptian weaponry! Because, to be honest, the first things that popped into my head when thinking about the prompt were these two posts on wacky polearms by prokopetz. XD Hope you enjoy!
--
“...and that one, right there? That’s a Bohemian Ear-Spoon.”
Kiya raised a suspicious eyebrow at him. “You are definitely making that one up.”
“Nope,” Dan told her with his biggest, toothiest grin. “Completely real. Check out the label.”
Kiya squinted at him, then turned her attention to the identification tag plastered to the case. A moment later, her eyes went wide. “What even,” she declared, standing up straight.
“I know!” Dan said, laughing. “And you know what? That thing is not nearly the weirdest polearm out there. I’ve seen one that looked like one of those fancy pointy spikes you see on top of churches with a blender attachment on the side.”
“Seriously? European weapons are bizarre,” was Kiya’s opinion on that. She glanced up at him. “So – did they tell you in uni why that one’s called an ‘Ear-Spoon’ of all things?”
“Oh, this is one of those weird ones where the original name doesn’t translate well to English,” Dan explained. “But most people think it’s ‘cause they call those two triangular bits forming the guard the ‘ears.’”
“Ah – well, that’s better than what I originally thought.”
Dan tilted his head. “Do I want to know?”
Kiya made a motion like she was jamming something into her ear while pulling a face. “I think you can guess.”
Dan grimaced, his very teeth seeming to flex with the motion. “Yeah...kind of prefer to avoid that kind of ear-spooning,” he said, absently brushing his bangs a little more over his eye patch.
Kiya winced. “Yeah, I – sorry, I didn’t mean to–”
“No, no, it’s fine!” Dan assured her, holding up his hands with an awkward grin. “Shit happens, you know? It’s not a big deal or anything. I definitely don’t want it spoiling our date.”
“Me either.” Kiya took one of his hands, smiling warmly. “I’m having a really good time. I didn’t expect learning about the fifty million polearms Medieval Europe invented would be so interesting.”
Dan snorted. “Well, I gotta make sure someone other than me gets some use out of my minor,” he said, smile much more genuine now. “And it is pretty neat that they came up with so many different variations. You wouldn’t think there would be that many ways to change up ‘sharp pointy metal bit on stick.’” He regarded Kiya curiously. “You get anything like that with Ancient Egyptian weaponry?”
“Not really – Ancient Egypt honestly had something of a problem making any effective weapons until the New Kingdom period,” Kiya said, slipping into “curator” mode. “And even then, they mainly advanced because they’d been conquered by the Hyksos – foreign rulers who slipped into power while the main Egyptian dynasty was crumbling – and they were able to pilfer a lot of knowledge of arms off them before they drove them out.”
“Yeah? Like what?”
“Mainly, using bronze tips on their spears to help them hold an edge better and longer,” Kiya said with a little chuckle. “Though they also created the javelin in that time, and they used that to pretty great effect in their later campaigns. Honestly, though, my favorite Egyptian weapon from that time period is the Khopesh.”
“Oh?” Dan leaned in, intrigued. “What’s that? Guessing not a spear?”
“Nope – a large curved sword that looks something like a sickle,” Kiya told him, grinning. “Only with the sharp edge on the outside. Pharaohs from that time period are often depicted wielding it because it was known as a very dangerous and powerful weapon – one more than fit for a king.” She giggled. “And like your Ear-Spoon, the name might come from a body part – some scholars believe it was derived from the Egyptian word for ‘leg’ because it looks vaguely like a haunch of beef.”
Dan laughed. “That’s great!” He looked around the room. “You think they might have one of those here? I know they’ve got an Egyptian exhibit...”
Kiya linked her arm through his, face bright. “Let’s go and find out.”

Thank you so much @egyptianrenaissance I just learned something new about the Khopesh and would like to take the chance to show off mine. It’s not as beautiful as the one you posted, but for a modern version not bad. Can you give a source for your photo?

The Khopesh; an Egyptian sword that was made by the Egyptians in the time of the old kingdom, and it was used in battles till the time of the new kingdom. This sword was also found in the location of the kingdom of Judea and other places in the middle east. It is made out of bronze and it is called “knopesh” because its shape resembled a foreleg of an animal.

Khopesh Sword of Tutankhamun
New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1332-1323 BC. Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62), Valley of the Kings, Thebes. Now in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, JE 61588
The khopesh sword of Tutankhamun is a single piece of bronze divided into three parts. The first part is the hilt, which is black. The second and third parts form the blade. The second part is straight, on the same level as the handle, and is engraved with the figure of a lotus flower with a long stem. The third part is bent to form a curve, and is engraved with a long stripe.
The khopesh sword found in Tutankhamun’s tomb is a particularly well-preserved and ornate example. The shape of this khopesh sword is the same as the sword held by the figure of the king, depicted on the perforated and gilded wood votive shield that was found in his tomb, and is considered to be ceremonial in purpose.

Lockwood & Co AU where Lockwood's parents are just Evie and Rick O'Connell from The Mummy
Lockwood inexplicably knows a lot of extremely specific things about Ancient Egypt and he never elaborates and it infuriates George to no end
Lockwood: Well, it can't be a real canopic jar. The jackal protects the stomach, not the liver. George, who has never seen Lockwood read anything other than trashy tabloids and pulp detective novels: How could you possibly know that???
They discover while fighting off relicmen that Lockwood is insanely capable with guns and he flat out refuses to acknowledge any line of questioning about it, but it does explain the crate of old shotguns in the basement
He also apparently knows how to build, operate, and diffuse a range of explosive devices, which they discover during the Siege of Portland Row
Clearly, he has a talent for leaving buildings in partial to complete ruin everywhere he goes
He viciously despises the British Museum, a fact they discover after getting hired to clear out a particularly nasty poltergeist from one of their exhibit halls and Lockwood turns them down flat
On top of ghost relics, Portland Row is also home to various Ancient Egyptian decor--small statues, modern recreations of khopeshes, photographs of temple interiors. Some of the artifacts are the real thing and he does not see the hypocrisy in this
Along with the iron line outside, the lintel of the front door has the Eye of Horus carved into it as an additional protective measure
During rare nights off, the gang sometimes plays board games together and Lockwood is visibly surprised that no one else knows how to play Senet
He speaks Arabic and, if given enough time and motivation, can translate hieroglyphics
Sometimes when they're stumped in a particularly dangerous case, Lockwood will call on a 'family friend' who happens to have the relevant connections or expertise
Ardeth visits on Christmas every year without fail or warning. Everyone is in utter shock the first time except Lockwood, who is royally embarrassed by all the baby stories his godfather keeps telling people. Ardeth is just happy to know that Lockwood has formed his own family
The uncle he stayed with in the country was Jonathan
He has dual citizenship in the United States and, when Kipps learns this, he teases him mercilessly about it

If AGS(ZC?) were blades, what would they be?
Ooo thanks for the ask! Well I’ve said things before about how fitting their weapons are for them, so here I’ll branch out from that—this’ll probably be more based on fighting styles I’m more familiar with than anything else so it may stray a bit but I will try to keep to the spirit of the question lol
Angeal: Sword and shield/buckler. There’s the defensive aspect that fits him so well, what with his desire to shield his sword from wear tear and rust, and the drive to protect his loved ones. It also, in my experience, requires quite a bit of discipline when fighting with sword and buckler to remember to keep them together so your opponent can’t slip through your guard.
Genesis: Rapier and dagger. He would love the showiness of how dual wielding looks, and this is really the only practical way to do that—also requires a lot of dexterity and intelligence to have the dagger where it should be to be effective, which Genesis has loads of!
Sephiroth: Longsword! It’s very versatile, which is something I think fits him, since of the Firsts Angeal clearly focuses on strength and Genesis speed/magic while Sephiroth doesn’t have an obvious specific thing like that (at least that I’ve picked up on, he just seems to be nonspecifically better at everything lol). When fighting with longsword, you spend a lot of time in the bind (when the swords are pressed together and you’re trying to wind your sword into a better position to both protect yourself and get at your opponent), and it can be a very good example of the intimacy of violence type thing, I think insane seph would get a kick out of smiling creepily at Cloud from way into his personal space lol. Also it’s very much in the typical hero imagery realm of blades
Zack: Saber I think? He’s a hard one. But I have this friend who loves to do this funny hop hop slash thing on one leg that I very much think is something Zack would be addicted to doing lol
Cloud: Weird one time, khopesh (egyptian sickle-sword for those who do not know). I’ve played with them a little, and from what we were able to figure out, a lot of the swordplay relies on being able to trap your opponent’s blade in its hook, which gives me the same vibes as his over-the-top puzzle sword! It’s very fun to use, and I feel like the strategy of it fits him.
Oops that may have strayed slightly into more answering ‘what style of blade would they fight with’ than what they would actually be, but honestly I’d say they pretty much already are the human versions of the weapons they wield for the reasons I’ve said in the posts I linked at the top. I didn’t go into as much detail with Genesis as I did for the others though, so here:
Rapier fits Genesis so well even outside its perfect match for his style of fighting. Rapiers are much thinner than other weapons, and as such they require a high level of dexterity and control to wield properly—often you can get a hit from a slight movement to barely slip past your opponent’s guard, rather than relying on brute force. They’re often the most stylish blades, with all the different parts that make up a rapier’s hilt—showy, but deadly all the same. Rapiers are often associated with nobility, as well, wielded by learned gentlemen of high class. Just like Genesis fr

Greek-Egyptian Crocodile having multiple attachments for his hook for different occasions.
Normal daily life mobility aid? Brass/gold/whatever metal hook. The poisoned inner hook and hidden knife are for assassinations and impromptu combat.
Open combat, though? Khopesh. Straight up Bronze Age style khopesh.
Because look at this thing and tell me he WOULDN'T rock it.

Deepeeka – Full Tang Egyptian Khopesh
This reproduction of the iconic and deeply curved sickle-sword of Ancient Egypt has dimensions that align much more closely with historic originals than many other production pieces. Many originals had blades of bronze or iron, but Deepeeka has taken advantage of modern metallurgy to give it a blade of C60 high carbon steel – a resilient and tough steel with properties very similar to 1060 high carbon steel. The deep curve of the blade hits hard and bites deeply into a target and the design makes great use of a central fuller groove to remove weight to give the sword a lively balance.
This Egyptian sword has a full tang blade construction to give it the most durable possible construction possible; two halves of polished wood are durably triple-riveted to the thick blade tang to fashion the hilt. Included with the sword is a thick and well-stitched sheath of genuine leather with antiqued brass peg retaining straps. A shoulder baldric for wear is sturdily stitched to the sheath.

The whole European swords vs Japanese Katanas is so dumb. We all know an Egyptian Khopesh is the coolest blade and that swords in general suck because of ✨armoured combat✨
A well balanced mace or a long spear are far better in combat than a blade only used to show others how much pussy they slay (because they can afford a bunch of sex from brothels) or to show that you are, in fact, are better than everyone else (samurai)
#transfem#:3#queer#trans#transgender#lesbian#swords#armoured combat#knightposting#ok but a Roman short sword is really sexy

Living in my story’s world must be wild. Like imagine you feel a threatening presence in your house and you’re like „ok I guess I have to call someone to get it out“ and you google „business to get rid of presence in my house five star rating“ because you never had to do this before. And the first thing that pops up is the historical museum you visited a week prior. Absolute whiplash of realizing that those people running around fighting ancient Egyptian stuff with real ass khopeshes in fancy uniforms are just haunted history nerds.

Took a stab at doing a screenshot redraw. I did one of Atem riding his horse form the memory world. I attempted to give him the Egyptian Khopesh sword but it didn't come out right at least not at the angle Atem is holding it.

Ancient Egyptian Khopesh
After completing the anvil tutorial by BlenderGuru, I was challenged to create something related, some kind of weapon.
And knowing me, I had to choose something at least vaguely related to YuGiOh…
So, here is a weapon used in Ancient Egpyt, the khopesh.
I based it on a weapon recovered in Tell Aphek which someone in Norway has replicated and photographed from multiple angles. The blade is sand-cast bronze, forged in one piece with a pressed-wood handle.
Since I haven't planned to put this in a game, my model is high-poly and all quads. The most challenging parts to model were the curvature in the area of the hook and the handle.
Here are the reference photos I was working from. The challenge was to duplicate the photos 1:1. I took some liberties with the lighting and composition.
