My deep gnome bard Pandora! She's a major antagonist in our campaign and she might be just a little bit obsessed with the moon. That's bad news for everyone.

The sun setting casts a strange deep orange across the countryside. The blood moon rises. It's time to go inside.

I think what I heavily dislike about the donghua and other renditions of MDZS is that they make WWX's own gui dao much more ethereal versus the physicality of it using from what existed already. Wei Wuxian was made to rely on the will of survival and cunning, nothing otherworldly itself. What he did wasn't flashy and graphic to reanimate corpses or even the way he made living dolls.
The only gruesomeness that comes of it was the manipulation of already deceased corpses and of blood barriers, which ironically doesn't need a vast amount to be sacrificed. It makes it seem less of Wei Wuxian's own creation and of something that is older than him, which is the point of his misnomer. He doesn't use mo dao which is what is consistently used to show his cultivation and is also the manipulation of others cultivation roots, he is unable to manipulate others cultivation, yet this is always something that is shown by many adaptations as plausible. It ironically echoes the lies made up about him and his gui dao that he dispels on page time and again.
