Previously, I posted about how Lin Ling replacing Nice is reminiscent of those transmigration stories, and today I just had a thought: What if To Be Hero X is actually a transmigration story??? The world of the superheroes is the world of a novel (or a comic book, show, game, etc.), and one soul from the real world transmigrates into this world and vows to change the ending.

This is mostly just gut feeling for now, but a lot of the mysteries and quirks of this show would make sense if this were true.

Like, why have multiple animation styles? It can’t be just to flex the budget and the skills. If this were a transmigration story, then the varying styles could be visual cues of how far or near the “current story” is to the “original story” and maybe even to the “real world.” Or, to put it simply, it’s to show us different layers of what is considered the reality within the show. This would also complement the several glitching animation we see (like in the OP), which could be indicative of something in the current story overwriting the original story.

Next, why is X always breaking the fourth wall (i.e. looking at the viewer)? Could he be the transmigrator trying to change the plot development of the “original story”? And that’s why he’s always looking at us. Because he’s from the “real world.”

Now, if TBHX really were a transmigration story.... Then, who was the protagonist in the original story?

First off, I don’t think it’s X. Salaryman!X gives too much background character vibes. The fact that he’s also not under any company and seems to have just come out of nowhere really smells a lot like those plots where the transmigrator found themselves in the body of an NPC or extra, but having read the original story to the end, is able to dominate the story world and make a name for themselves. So no, I don’t think it’s X.

I think....I think the protagonist was og!Nice. He’s literally the “perfect hero” in a superhero world; the Gary Stu of the fictional world.

But then he died. And literally overwritten by Lin Ling.

God, I know this sounds crazy, and I can’t provide much evidence right now coz we’re only two episodes in...

But if TBHX really were a transmigration story.... that would be fucking wild.

Very so often, in the beginning, a transmigrator would just go along with the plot of the “story” or the rules set out by the System (if you don’t know what that is, uuhh think of it as a literal game/computer system that gives the player/transmigrator instructions on what to do). To the transmigrator, every other person in the story world is just a fictional character with no agency. So it is a very classic and crucial narrative point in the genre that the transmigrator realizes that all the other people in the story world are no longer just fictional characters. And once they realize that, they will then start deviating from the plot, no longer bound by any internal or external rules. They may also try to change the story endings of the other “characters,” literally killing their destiny that dictates how their life should be written.

(Of course, the quote above could just be alluding the the fucked-up Trust System in TBHX, but!!! These are not in conflict okay!)

i've been wracking my brain trying to decide what pointers i could give you but i genuinely wouldn't know. i don't think there are very many writing hacks for getting a character's voice right. it also hugely depends on when in canon you're setting your fic. i mostly just sit with myself and like. THINK really hard? i would say the biggest problem that we might have as fic writers is that it's difficult to fight against the tendency to bend the characters' personalities to suit the needs of the plot, trope or self-indulgent fantasy that we want to explore. that's not inherently bad as fanfic is by definition self-indulgent and characters WILL bend to suit your needs but it's how jayce gets turned into a himbo puppy that just apologizes all the time or viktor gets written as a mean, disrespectful dude sometimes: the author wants to say something and the characters have to bend to accomodate that particular scenario. not dunking on anyone it's just how it is! i am doing it myself as we speak! so the key thing is asking yourself, okay, i want this character to do X. would they actually do that in canon? if not, what would need to happen for it to make sense? maybe they’d never do XYZ, so instead of forcing it, you reinterpret the trope in a way that fits them. or you introduce external factors that push them into that scenario in a way that feels natural. in that same vein, i also think some people are afraid of having characters be messy. overreact. say one think and do the other. hold two clashing beliefs at once. lash out. but that's just being human. a lot of people want characters to be perfectly rational, or at least consistent, but leaning into that messiness makes them more believable (got some backlash because jayce snapped at viktor once and i'm still bitter because in my mind i did build up to it well) EDIT: ALSO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. DON'T MAKE THE CHARACTERS THERAPY SPEAK. pls.

EDIT2: WAIT I'VE THOUGHT OF SOMETHING ELSE. don’t think about how to get a character to say a specific line. instead, think about how they’d convey that feeling in a way that feels true to them. maybe you don’t think a character would ever say, "i am sad." okay, so how would they express that instead? maybe they’d say, "i feel like i’ve forgotten how to be happy." same idea, but phrased in a way that fits their voice? random example but yaknow anyway post-canon jayvik is tricky because there's a lot of interpretations on how they would develop after S2. i know for instance that a lot of people think jayce would not give a fuck about piltover after being teleported to god-knows-where. i disagree. boom, we would write two wildly different fics and neither is inherently better or worse because of it. so at some point you also gotta trust your intuition. i would say too that you can read meta of the characters but you MUSTN'T let that inform your writing too much. i’ve seen brilliant meta and also takes so wild they made me do a double take and wonder what kind of psychoactive drugs the writer was on. and that goes for both random bloggers and super popular ones.

and don’t stress too much about getting everything perfect. they’re not real, and this is fanfic. it’s fine to mess up a little. christian linke won't @ u on twitter for it (or so i hope)

i've been trying to figure out if i'm insane (or just deliciously gaslighted) for thinking solas has way more chemistry with rook than with lavellan??? @solasmancers do not come for me !! i am simply touting, politely, that i as a player fundamentally did not and could not understand how others thought solas was in any way, shape, or form, integrous to lavellan when a BAT-SHIT crazy power dynamic incessantly undermined (and ultimately, as far as dai is concerned, destroyed) their bond. it's more than "he is stronger and wiser than her due to various but mysterious reasons"—it is, at worst, a god-king versus their culturally-subjugated constituent (about two thousand times removed, i guess, but still).

I *think* I have understood what’s happening in this most beautiful piece of film:

As Kirk lay dying in Generations, Yor (reality hopping time traveler from Discovery) comes to him to take him across time, space and dimension to Prime Spock who is dying on New Vulcan. Gary Mitchell their mutual friend who ascended to godhood ( and whose death was not confirmed on screen) helps unite these two. When Spock died the first time, Jim was there. This time when Spock dies a final time, Jim could be with him without the glass wall.

Jim gets to walk through a field of flowers and touch his favorite flowers one last time. He got to meet old friends, who are also resurrected/alive in some way thanks to Genesis, and he got to meet his past selves and accept his death in a calm way.

And so they meet death together the same way they were in life. Together. Side by side. Without words but a thousand unsaid sentiments spoken through a raised eyebrow and a chuckle.

When Jim says, “Oh my!” in Generations, this is why! And when Spock raises an eyebrow a final time, it’s true to his character “fascinating” to see Jim come to him at his last hour.

Edited to add t’hy’la: I don’t want to call it a ship - friends or lovers or brothers- they transcend all that. But their bond shows that it is indeed important how we deal with death, at least important as how we deal with life.

I would like to think it is Prime Spock who requested these god-like powerful entities because at his resurrection he had told Jim: You came back for me. And Jim had replied: you would have done the same for me. So, he did. All of this takes place in a mind/katra non-corporeal realm as per my theory. Nothing is physically happening and to anyone in the physical realm, all this is lost.

P.s: Has anyone figured out what is the Yeoman/pilot from Cage doing in the video? edit2: Okay, apparently the answer to this is not in TOS. It’s about the plot that the archive is working on as part of their bigger initiative based off the Cage. She has an important role in it.

1) nevermore has NOTHING to do with this situation, nevermore is a comic, this is completely different drama that involves a horrible person. Nevermore is a GREAT webtoon that brought a second family together for me, Im not hating on the comic. Im only involving the tag to gather attention to another side issue (its not bigger than the crimson issue. That issue is the main issue and the victims need more focus than anything).

So I haven't said anything about previous events so far, and my point still stands as I will remain quiet as everything has just come to a head with it all. It'll still sit here and marinate and reveal everything about the drama. A lot of people don't know, but all of this drama that happened? (Not the crimson drama, the previous drama about the mass ban) Has happened because Nora (or Sardonyx) personally went out of her way to lie and tell everyone what was happening. Most of the bans were innocent, if not all. And I was scooped up into it by nora herself and told the same shit, and I was only told the right issues involving it because someone who is close friends came forward about it all, and told me and showed me the truth.

Nora(Sardonyx) has had a hold on every dramatic situation, she has lied, been a hypocrite, a two face, and has shown she cannot be trusted. She has decided to talk shit and speak about all of this to a 13 year old, and Nora is 27. Everyone knows this, she is a manipulator who will try her best to make others look bad to get the heat off her back. Another issue with nora is previous conversations I've had with her, in light of them, some of the conversations we've had, she has made toxic remarks towards others. Bad mouthed almost every patreon, and has dragged me into it. I tried to match her jokes, tried to be friendly and laugh along with her. And in that, I'm sorry on my end. I never intended to hurt others, but she has. Again, I dont have any of these screenshots because I did leave any server I was associated with her in, and can't prove it on my end. She probably could, with cherry picked screenshots and edited ones as well.

I again apologize on my end for that, she has manipulated me through every part of our dms and has influenced me to be just as bad of a person. I've learned to be better, and I have talked with one of the people she has talked bad about and we are both on good terms. If no one knows this by now, she is still in the main server, after showing proof of her Threatening to kidnap and torture, her nasty remarks, she has tried to tell others that another person is Homophobic, which was untrue and that would have resulted in a ban. In the end, she's still there. And She's getting away with threats and others. I highly recommended staying away from her, as she has lied, manipulated and bought her way through everyone.

Another issue with nora is her banner situation, she has used NSFW fan art as a banner, fully exposed, unblurred fan art. Not going at the artist, but Nora using that art as her main banner on discord has resulted in minors seeing it. She has spoken to two people who asked her to change in, because they and others were uncomfortable and this was her response.

She used the main nevermore discord, a server that had NOTHING to do with the situation. Also her lying in this reply, she talks to minors. (Not in the crimson disgusting way-) but she does actively dm minors at the time it happened. She wasn't considerate. And the kidnap and torture mention, well. She never got banned for threatening two people.

I blocked out the other person and the victims names, as I don't know if they want to be named or not. Some people know who she is but for the sake of tumblr, I'm blurring her out. Through some of mine and her dms, there was some playful flirting going back and forth. Note on playful, by the way, but her being engaged and having a partner and telling me she thought all of it was real? Someone needs to hold her hand when they tell her this....(not me, dont let me go near that crazy woman she might K&T me too...)

But yeah, they were playful, pretty heavy flirting and it got detailed, SURE, its PLAYFUL FLIRTING. it happens. But her saying she's a "lesbian in a straight relationship"? Someone needs to hold her hand and to tell her AGAIN because this just aint it...

But she's still there, I've left the main nevermore server because of her. Because of her lies and manipulation, she has dragged others into this. People who had no involvement in this, but thats her way. She has done it before, DMing other people because she can't fight her own battles. She has to have others do it.

In the end, all I have to say is, Nora (sardonyx) is the one behind all the drama that happens, and will continue to be the one and will continue to get away with it. I highly advise to keep your distance from her , if not well...none of this would have been posted if she didn't go around acting like a 14 year old and spreading rumors about me.

Nora, if you're reading this, tell Eric i feel so bad for him to end up with someone as pathetic as you. And that the person you wanted to get freaky with found out how much of a horrible person you are. And I hope others do the same.

There’s an interesting tidbit in here about Touma, Yoshimasa, and Shuhei. During the battle with Tsubaki when Touma was 19, Touma was gravely injured, and as a result, he used his invisibility technique to try and hide all of them from Tsubaki’s sight. He encouraged Yoshimasa to retreat, insisting they could lose one agent if it meant keeping others alive. When Shamrock killed Yoshimasa in retaliation, Touma felt responsible for his death because of his decision to retreat, and that’s part of why he ended up promoting Shuhei to his third in command.

I know that Touma has emotions, but we honestly didn’t get to see them show through a whole lot, they were mostly implied here and there. I would love to see Touma, Iori and Tooru’s early days, honestly…

-When Gear came to Tokyo 40 years earlier to look for Kuro, Shirayuki ended up battling Gear during one of his rampages. After their battle, the two apparently ended up respecting one another. Her dream is to get to battle Gear again someday lmao

-Her worst subject is home economics, and it says her favorite food is “ozoni cooked by [her husband.]” Coupled with a few other answers, I’m going to say it’s likely her husband was the one taking care of the home and the kids when they were younger, which I always had as my headcanon and I love that for them. Shirayuki has a “family love” skill of 8/10, but also she’s apparently obsessed with battling, and she was probably very busy as the C3 president of the Tokyo branch, so she probably didn’t get to see the kids as much until they were able to go to work with her. At least, that’s my own little brainchild thought~

-Also, I just want to point out that even Shirayuki is stronger physically than Iori. Lol.

-I like how her favorite hobby is to watch wrestling. Also, her favorite quote being “survival of the fittest” is so funny to me. She enjoys being viewed as “strong” too.

EDIT23: Sigurd is 41 (42 post-finale.) I envisioned him being around that age — just slightly older than Iori — so I like that.

-Sigurd’s favorite hobby is golf. I don’t know why I find that so funny, but I do. I thought for sure shooting would be his hobby, but it was listed under favorite subjects instead.

-HE HAS A WIFE??? And a sister apparently… BUT A WIFE? Someone can actually stand being around him, but not Iori? Lmfao

EDIT24: Gear confirmed to be over 1000 years old, but apparently it’s unclear his exact age. He lists his family as “Yotarou, plus all the other grandchildren (self-proclaimed)” lol. Omg and he dreams of writing a bestselling novel, so cute.

-Yotarou made Abel, and it was confiscated by C3 at some point, which is how she then made her way into Mikado’s hands. I can’t remember if that was ever explicitly stated, even though that’s kind of what we figured.

-Oh my god… Gear worried about Yotarou being around him, so one day, he just returned to London without saying anything. Yotarou was devastated, and once he was old enough, he used his knowledge of Gear to track him to London and just showed up on his doorstep, and that’s when they began living together. Oh my god that’s so cute???

-There is a whole section dedicated to profiles for the characters (or at least a handful of characters) during Mikuni’s mirror world universe. Very interesting.

-Tanaka explains that Mahiru learned his “simple” thinking from his uncle, but since Tooru learned it from his big sister — Touma Mahiru was able to learn the “simply” mindset from his mother in that universe.

-Okay there’s a lot to unpack about the mirror world, but there’s one note from Tanaka about Mikuni, Touma and Iori that pretty much confirms what we already suspected. Mikuni and Iori are apparently not far apart in terms of logic skills, but Mikuni’s slip up was assuming that Touma and Iori shared habits similar to his own. Namely, not being able to rely on others to get results. She specifically says that Mikuni believed Iori couldn’t stop him by himself (which was true,) but he also assumed Iori wouldn’t rely on the others for their assistance. So when Touma and Sigurd helped Iori with his plan, Mikuni wasn’t expecting it.

-LOL HOKAZE IS 38 IN THE MIRROR WORLD. She is about 15 years older than Mikuni. I mean, we already knew she was much older, but I love that for him.

-Oh my god, okay, here’s a note from Tanaka about the mirror world: She says she wanted to have time to depict a scene where Tsurugi/Noah is a mix of the two, but then when Tsurugi sees Touma happy and smiling with his family, he begins to think to himself, “Maybe the world really is better without me in it,” and that’s when Tsurugi gets suppressed fully by Noah, until the real Touma shows up to pull Tsurugi back. I would have loved to see that, and it would have made Tsurugi’s transformation into Noah feel more fluid honestly.

-Nico died at 27, because World End never made a contract with him and wasn’t there to rescue him.

Just gonna type my thoughts out based on my notes I wrote while playing the To the Moon Beach Episode. So spoilers/long ramble.

Short things:

They brought back many minor characters from Finding Paradise, thought that was very cute

References: The "Are you winning, son?" in the airport was charming but I did not expect to get a full FNAF section

I love the use of previous games OST: updated versions and the lo-fi versions

Animations were very charming and expressive; they even joke about it ("didn't have a budget for it. The dance lessons")

That inverted/hanging jellyfish planter. I need it. I need it now.

Rob learning what people are up to on the internet these days only to instantly regret it

Willis and Taima still going at it. They are lifelong couple goals: keeping the flame alive while dropping wisdom

I need that soundtrack.

Bigger things:

Johnny and River addressing what most players/general audience found concerning about the original game and overall premise of the series: Altering and overwriting of memories or basically the reality of the dying. While jokingly Johnny says he could never see himself using their services, both conclude it's their choice and they just need to accept it

This was slightly touched on in the Minisode but for it to be brought into attention by the original characters that kicked off this series, it's something.

The three books at the beginning already set forth what this game is gonna be all about: grieving and acceptance of the passing of a loved one. The first run through, Eva completely numbed her memories to enjoy the beach and time with Neil. But there was always something.

Second run, she "confronts" as Faye states the truth: Neil is dead.

It was hinted that Eva started drinking (in the store) and has been repeatedly using the machine Neil left behind that Neil becomes concerned for her. (Similar to Collin in Finding Paradise.) While she wants to stay on the beach and relive the same day over and over, it's not possible.

There was a brief mention of immortality. One being a jellyfish that reverts back to infancy as it reaches the end of their lifespan and questioning if it's still the same jellyfish or not. Then compared to humans how we regenerate new cells except the brain and heart.

Roxie finds it romantic, Eva wishes that those also gets replaced with every pass.

Neil's death was either sudden or his condition was kept secret from Eva? Eva mentioned he didn't give her enough time to prepare and Neil didn't know what to do and I think he said he made the machine just so he just doesn't disappear and to leave something behind for her.

*Edit* I completely forgot about Paper Memories. I'm guessing the phone call Eva got from Roxie was that Neil passed away (given how distressed Roxie was in that one panel). It is possible that that portion was in the machine and that Rob and Roxie were aware. That whole portion is basically like this Beach Episode.

Edit2: thinking again, the call could be him in critical condition since in the comic Neil mentions making that garden. Eva not replying to Neil on how he died makes it sound like it was traumatic. She mentioned something about a surgery when talking to Lynri and Quincy and asking how he is when he visits them but not sure if that's involved or just a throwaway line.

Neil lives on with regrets; mostly wishing Eva was his girlfriend and more. Though he isn't real in the game, he still carries the memories he had. He built her "a garden" (comic reference) but she started spending too much time. And she can't fully enjoy it because he continues to keep her at arms length.

Neil locked himself in his room, much like he did in many instances throughout the series and now canonically, all throughout the life Eva and Neil has been together. Thinking he's doing what's best for her when all she wanted is him to be "here'

He regrets those decisions but it's understandable on why he did it. In Impostor Factory, Lynri's condition was hereditary and is in Neil. Seeing Quincy's face of absolute loneliness knowing he's about to lose his wife and eventually his son, it would devastate anyone. Neil making a machine to make it so that Eva would never have to go through that, while admirable, changed nothing. If not, made things worse.

How they close the game was brutal: The world Neil created for Eva to never be alone after he has passed slowly fading away, concluding with Eva being alone, crying, as she turns the machine off.

You couldn't just leave it like this for them. Together alone on the beach.

No. It's just Eva. Alone.

Do you see all those jokes people make about Louis on reunion woth Lestat asking that he makes sure he never has to top again? If im honest they make me laugh but i have to ask is there any truth to louis being a pillow princess? Like from the books and stuff

(Edit: Also they clearly missed Lestat telling Louis he could be on top in episode two, too 🙄)

question for those who watched the episode "mission antarctica". why did blitzø have to lick the asmodean crystal to use it? in "unhappy campers" we see barbie wire use the crystal without even having to touch it.

edit: and... why licking? blitzø claims he doesn't know how to lick because he's a top (which is a poor excuse btw) so why didn't he do something else? he could have caressed it, like millie told him. he could have grinded against it.

edit2: to clarify, i haven't seen the short. the only part i saw was a clip, starting with millie telling blitzø to "caress it" and ending with moxxie throating blitzø's entire fist.

Yikes. I watched Mad World Tarot's new YT video "99. Harry's Hulu-Baloo about Prince William." In that video, MWT said she did 2 readings yesterday on W&C to see how they were doing in light of Harry's Hulu IG show. Turned out W&C were the darkest readings MWT has ever done on YT and she chose not to upload the videos and deleted them. MWT said she'll read on W&C in a few days to see how they're doing. This is why I worry about W&C and the RF. H&M's attacks has got to be affecting W&C's health.

I saw that video as well. I wish Paula had posted those readings so I could judge for myself how 'dark' they were.

I think it would be very stressful to have a family member constantly attacking you in public. I also know that there are ways of coping with this, and I am sure that both William and Catherine have access to professionals who can give them the skills and strategies to cope/minimise the effects, so the impact on them and their children is as little as possible.

It is a horrible situation, but it is also a lesson in dealing with stress and negativity. To a large extent, it depends on how you respond to the situation as to how much it affects you.

EDIT: The media, of course, is making the whole situation much worse in their relentless pursuit of clickbait articles. If they simply ignored Harry and Meghan it would remove most of their power.

EDIT2: Prolonged stress does affect your health. That is why I am hoping that William and Catherine are taking advantage of all the resources available to them to minimise their stress as much as possible.

A Question about Terrain Paints

After some hours of googling and coming across interesting details about the Sims 2 game that I didn't know about yet, but not getting an answer for what I had googled for in the first place, I have no choice but to ask for help (and to say sorry if the answer to my problem is obvious for anyone but me):

So, the terrain in one of my lots looks like this:

This isn't terrain paint, it's the default. Whenever I tried to cover it with new terrain paint, the brown spots were shining through whatever paint I was laying above it. I deleted the few custom terrain paints I had in my game, and while that didn't cause the terrain to turn into a flashing blue surface, the spotty terrain persisted.

However, now the Maxis' terrains were forming square patterns when spraying them on the ground, only the garden earth paint from the base game was able to cover the spots up correctly.

Using the boolProp lotTerrainPaints false cheat makes the terrain normal again (but then you cannot apply any terrain paint at all), turning it on again transforms everything into molehill country again. Moving the lot to another place in the neighborhood doesn't help either. The lot is the only lot in the neighborhood with this problem, though it's the most played one in the hood - it's a residential lot with four Sims on it.

I took a look at the CC terrain paints that I had taken out and couldn't detect anything suspicious, except that their texture size is bigger than Maxis'.

So my questions are:

"Is it possible that I sprayed too many terrain paints on top of each other over the course of time so that the game had enough of my shenanigans and went on strike?`"

"Are there any cache files to delete other than the Groups and Accessory cache?

"Is it possible to somehow edit the lot file with regard to the terrain paint (never worked with lot files before)? If yes, could anybody point me to a corresponding forum post or something like that?"

I'm reluctant to just delete the lot and pretend nothing had ever happened. I'd prefer to carry out some more experiments first. ;)

EDIT: I did some more testing and obviously the garden earth terrain paint (mentioned above) is different than the other paints in that it is able to remove the brown "knolls", but only when you cover the ground with it FIRST and then do the ctrl-clicking.

All of the other MAXIS terrain paints do nothing but keep acting weird, refusing to make anything else but building square patterns. The testing took place without any custom content.

EDIT2: The plot thickens. I discovered that another MAXIS terrain paint is able to act normal: the mulch terrain (I must have overseen it until now). It's not able to remove the spotty brown terrain like the earth terrain paint does, but you can spray it on the ground like a good terrain paint. What I find weird is that these are the only two earth-like brown paints in the game .... BROWN like the spotty brown terrain. Am I going crazy?
