National Strawberries and Cream Day
Add the perfect mix of sweet and creamy to your celebrations this National Strawberries and Cream Day, which is held each year on May 21. Fresh strawberries and cream is a great treat to indulge in on a hot day. Plus, as these lovely red berries are in season in May, it is also National Strawberry Month.
History of National Strawberries and Cream Day
Strawberries have been traced back to the Roman Empire. Ancient Romans believed this fruit alleviated symptoms of melancholy, fainting, inflammation, fevers, throat infections, kidney stones, bad breath, attacks of gout, as well as diseases of the blood, liver, and spleen. However, food historians think the Greeks knew about strawberries even before this.
The fruit was also a symbol of wealth and luxury in Victorian England. As they were a perishable food, strawberries were only available in season, increasing their demand. After evolving into a luxury, they began to be served during afternoon tea among the wealthy.
History also tells the tale of how this fruit’s harvest and availability coincided with the Wimbledon tournaments, which is as much about strawberries and cream as it is about tennis. While we still don’t know exactly how this dessert became such an integral part of Wimbledon, some sources credit King George V as the one who introduced this delicious treat to the tennis tournament. Some believe the seasonality and popularity of these red berries played a part in it becoming Wimbledon’s snack of choice.
As for how this quintessentially British dish came to be, stories of its origin say Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, a close confidant to King Henry VIII, was the brains behind it. King Henry VIII’s court fed approximately 600 hungry lords and ladies twice a day. The chef there came up with the idea to pair sweet strawberries and clotted cream together in a dessert that did not require cooking, and voila, a delicious treat was born! Another version of this story says Cardinal Wolsey mixed these two ingredients at a royal banquet, and whatever the royals ate instantly became fashionable. It was even customary for newlyweds to eat strawberries and cream for their wedding breakfast!
National Strawberries and Cream Day timeline
1509 The First Time this Dish was Served
According to rumor, strawberries and cream are first served together by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey at a banquet during Henry VIII's reign.
1550 Its Popularity is Going Strong
Tudor traveler Andrew Boorde publishes an ode to this dish, saying, “Rawe crayme undecocted, eaten with strawberyes or hurtes (whortleberry, bilberry) is a rurall mannes blanket. I have knowen such blankettes hath put men in jeoperdy of theyr lyves.”
Late 18th century First Cultivated Garden Strawberry
What we now call the 'garden strawberry' is first cultivated in this period, in Brittany, France.
1877 Offered at the First Wimbledon Tournament
200 spectators at Wimbledon court are offered strawberries and cream.
2012 Tesco Launches a New Sandwich
British retail company Tesco launches a strawberry and clotted cream sandwich, made of slices of berries between two cream-layered pieces of white poppy seed bread, with a dollop of strawberry jam — this is no longer on the market.

5 Fun Facts About Strawberries
The only fruit with seeds on the outside
They herald the spring
They give your workout a little boost
They help your teeth look good too!
They are all over the world
A single strawberry has around 200 seeds, and each one has the genetic potential to become a new variety — that’s why breeders can develop so many varieties.
Strawberries ring in the spring season — in a way, they are the first fruit to ripen during this season.
Strawberries are rich in nitrates, and a study shows people who ate such foods before exercising burned 100 more calories than those who did not.
The fruity acids in these berries help remove stains, which can help whiten your teeth.
These berries are grown around the world and boast more than 600 variants.
Why We Love National Strawberries and Cream Day
Ode to the versatile fruit
This day promotes in-season eating
It makes us happy
We use this day as another excuse to worship this summer fruit. Refreshingly sweet (and sometimes a teeny bit tart), strawberries mixed with clotted and sour cream are a match made in heaven. We would happily celebrate every day as Strawberries and Cream Day if we could. Not only do they tickle our taste buds, but strawberries also bring us so many health benefits. From boosting immunity to increasing HDL (good cholesterol) and lowering blood pressure, strawberries provide us with an array of health benefits.
This day is celebrated in a month when these berries are in season, promoting sustainability and better consumer habits. Not only is in-season produce better for your health — a strawberry grown in May tastes much richer than one artificially ripened in another season — it also helps fulfill your body's needs as per the season's requirements. Plus, buying local is great for the environment, too. Think of how much fuel emissions you are reducing when you buy food that did not have to travel very far to get to you!
Popping these sweet and sometimes tart red fruits into our mouths is tantamount to a taste of happiness. Really! Strawberries are very rich in vitamin C, which is responsible for the production of endorphins in our brain, the hormone that makes you feel happy.

dude as soon as the second week of 2025 starts we're hit with a windstorm which also evolved into LA BURNING and it is so, SO bad. i went out yesterday with my mom and it was so smokey, ash and dust flew into our eyes (we went to downtown LA), and it was difficult to breathe in some areas. its devastating to hear old classmates are losing their homes, whether i liked them or not, its so unfortunate and something people shouldn't have to go through.
I'm lucky I myself live far enough away that I do not have to evacuate, but my heart goes out to everyone affected. People, homes, animals, shops, everyone and everything.
If you can, please reblog/repost whatever resources and reports you find on your page! Whether on here, or other social media. It means so much if you can support anyone who needs it!

4. favourite dish specific for your country?
ooo tbis is a hard one. as opposed to the seemingly general consensus online that england has bad food, there's actually so much to choose from
i personally LOVE roast dinners (a roast meat, roast potatoes, veg like green beans parsnips suede etc, gravy, sometimes yorkshire pudding and red currant jelly). i had them once a week at school (normally wednesdays), but traditionally you have them on sundays with your family!
they're a classic pub dish, and are hard to mess up spectacularly. my favourite roast flicks between roast belly of pork or roast shoulder of lamb. sadly they're not vegan so u can't try one rain but they're a BANGER meal 10/10
also another banger is a full english breakfast. BEST hangover food ever i will fight you. also good airport breakfast
11. favourite native writer/poet?
england has a LOT of poets and writers to choose from, many of which are well known (not by me though).
i'm not much of a poetry enthusiast and i don't read books v often so i don't rly have an opinion on this. aaa i'll say virginia woolf bc she was indirectly involved in me asking out my gf
21. if you could send two things from your country into space, what would they be?
if it was for aliens species to enjoy.... a box set and dvd player of all of doctor who, i think they'd enjoy seeing what we think aliens are
ive never rly watched doctor who past a few episodes here and there, but it IS a british staple so
that and maybe a can of heinz baked beans :D
#wiggles asks#hi rain :D#ask game#v good questions#u can also tell in mine what parts i'm passionate abt fjdksk#i HATE the meme that british food is awful bc the examples they use aren't even accurate#like i don't let myself interact w posts abt it bc it's not productive#'baked beans on a piece of bread' you're acting like that's all we eat. have u ever even EATEN bubble and squeak?? a pot pie???#a yorkshire pudding?? and eaton mess?? Do you have any tips for drawing a species that can move both quadrupedally and bipedally? My original species is digitigrade but I'm having trouble figuring out the proportions for them to go on all fours as well as two legs comfortably compared to a human. (They have tails as well)
I have a few bi-quad fantasy folks myself!
but first, I think I'll direct you to @jayrockin 's design of a "tailer", a modified human resembling a monkey that can go between bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion.
here's a post with their different walk cycles in full animation, a skill I am not so good with:
and a post on their skeletons as well
and I've gotten other related questions before, so here are a couple of my own old posts:
biped-quadruped with prosthetics
a reblogged video of a human dude walking and running on all fours
long armed human
and some sketches of my own bi-quad folks, the gnomes, stroi, and drow.
(image description: three pages of simplified sketch art depicting three different fantasy people standing bipedally and quadrupedally. in the first image, they are all standing facing forward. in the second image they are shown standing from the side. in the final image they are on all fours. the gnome is the smallest and has even toed hooves as well as a very short tail. the stroi is in the middle and has a somewhat long stiff tail as well as digitigrade feet and they use their hand knuckles when walking on all fours. the drow is only a little taller than the stroi and has a much longer more flexible tail while also having flat feet and walking with flat hands when on all fours. all three people have some traits in common, such as a longer torso, shorter legs, a neck that connects to the back of their head, and shoulders that sit forward on the side of the body. end description)
in my opinion, the most important anatomical details for a bi-quad body type are the torso and limb proportions. having the neck further back also helps the head look forward while walking on all fours, and this will also naturally result in a longer neck. the length of the tail and their exact walking style are details you can mess around with, I've got three different gaits here lol.
also, you might notice that the angle of the pelvis is a bit different than it looks on a normal human. I think having it angle upward in the back helps provide a little extra balance with the tail when standing upright.
hope that helps! have fun!

i'm still gonna talk more spoiler-y and plot-related stuff on season 3 later, but i just saw a post saying that lottie is "abusing" tai, and that seems more important to discuss in terms of racism in the fandom and intesectionality
(season 3 spoilers under the cut)
it would be one thing if people said that lottie was abusing travis, because, in her attempts to use him to contact the wilderness now that she claims she can't hear it anymore, lottie has clearly been taking advantage of her position as spiritual leader to peer pressure travis into taking higher and higher doses of mushroom tea and that has clearly been taking a toll on him in these first 2 episodes
something that, if we remember that lottie was the one leading the sexual assault towards travis on doomcoming, but, at the same time, seems to be the only one who is accepting of his vulnerability and weirdest side after spending years dealing with her own family's psychophobia, it all makes it up for a pretty messed up dynamic (one that actually deserves its own post, because it's too complex)
however, lottie shoving taissa twice, one because she was charging against shauna when she realized shauna was talking to jackie's corpse in the freezer and lottie stood up for shauna in season 2, and the second, right after taissa shoved her in one of the sessions in which travis was going through a mental breakdown because of the shrooms in season 3, that doesn't count as abuse AT ALL, it was simply self-defense -- even though, of course, lottie is clearly in the wrong on the second situation.
which brings us to the deeper issue.
it seems like some ppl tend to want to pin lottie and taissa against each other bc of the debates about why the fandom overlooks taivan so much in favor of fanon ships like lottienat or jackieshauna, and, well, that's NOT the right way to deal with the problem
taissa and lottie are literally the only 2 women of color amongst the main characters.
and i guess maybe that happens bc the fandom rarely talks about it, which counts as a form of ethnic/racial erasure, but, let's make things clear here: lottie matthews is a WOMAN OF COLOR.
and that's not only because both simone kessell and courtney eaton are women of color -- simone is 1/2 Maori on her mother's side (link here) , and courtney is 1/4 Cook Island Maori and 1/4 Chinese also on her mother's side (links here and here)
it's also because, when the showrunners allowed simone kessell to incorporate a very specific form of Maori tradition, the traditional Maori tattoo art of ta moko, into the character's left arm tattoo in season 2, lottie was basically canon confirmed as Maori, even if the show never directly addresses her heritage in further details (another topic that deserves its own post tbh)
and pinning one against each other because of the anti-Black racism in the fandom is still reinforcing the racism in the fandom, and, what's worse, erasing the ways in which the fandom is also racist towards brown women of color, Indigenous women and particularly Polynesian women
we can't understand taissa or lottie, both in terms of the narrative structure and also the way the audience and fandom treat them, without each other
both are characters who are seemingly touched by the supernatural, except lottie seeks for this supposed connection all while taissa rejects it and runs away from it
not only that, but, dare i say, taissa is much more of a character foil to lottie than characters that sort of antagonized lottie in season 2 like shauna or nat, because it's quite easy to be a non-believer when you have little to no connection to any form of religion as those two, but taissa is actually implied to have been raised religious with a devout Catholic grandma in episode 1x03, and, yet, possibly because of the traumatic circumstances of her grandma's death (an undisclosed terminal illness), taissa avoids and shows discomfort towards spirituality ever since season 1
that's a fascinating contrast with lottie and how it seems like her contact with spirituality was the arguings between her skeptical father and her believer mother about whether or not lottie had some type of premonitions, which imply she was raised in one of those families that say they'll leave their kids free to choose when they get older
not only that, but we can't also understand the ways in which the fandom treats Black women in this show without understanding how the fandom treats brown and Asian women
while people in fandom usually shift between the sexual repulsion and the oversexualized "exotic beauty" stereotype with Black women, when it comes to brown and Asian women it usually tends to go with the "exotic beauty" alone
this means that, just because people don't show the same type of rejection for lottie as they do to taissa, it doesn't mean lottie isn't subjected to fandom racism as well
Black people know very well that white people finding us attractive doesn't mean that we are respected as humans and treated fairly.
it's clear to see when, for example, beyoncé is the biggest celebrity in the world and adored for her beauty and talent, or when we see white queer people drooling over ayo adebiri, but microaggressions and systemic aggressions happen every single day to us
and the fact that lottie is one of the most popular characters doesn't mean that she is treated the same way as the most popular characters who are white
the way people erase the fact that lottie is a person of color, the terrible stereotypes about her schizophrenia and mental illness in general, the way that she is oftenly treated as a mere love interest in fan works when she is literally one of the 6 main characters, the way people ignore her canon melancholia and her childhood family traumas in favor of tropes like the "sassy" or "spicy" brown woman etc, all these things show how much lottie isn't allowed to have the same complexity as the white characters, and this too is a form of racism
just because the ways in which racism affects other people of color/racialized groups are different, it doesn't mean that they aren't affected too
and, especially for brown Indigenous people, the marks of the brutality of colonization are oftenly connected to the ones that affect Black people, because they are part of the same worldwide social-economical system of Western colonialism
the opressions that Black people and brown Indigenous people endure are intertwined
character bashing lottie to elevate taissa won't help to combat the racism in the fandom
in fact, it will probably only make things worse, because then people who are fans of one or the other are gonna feel free to commit as much microaggressions as they possibly can
and the same goes for pinning taivan against ships involving lottie, especially ones with other extremely popular characters like shauna or nat
what really can help combating racism in fandom is understanding the different ways in which racism affects different groups of people of color, and talk about how these things influence the way that lottie, taissa and other characters of color are treated in the fandom
a bit of intersectionality goes a long way, my friends

Expanding on Trio Family au personalties Part 1
This is yet another brain dump.
Some parts are actual changes to better fit the story, while others are just me going “haha wouldn’t it be fun if___?”
(Some facts about each character are mentioned in the other’s sections instead of their own, and I do use some comparisons to other characters/dynamics from other fandoms to try and better get my ideas across, so heads up.)
Cyril Marcus (Innocent Zero)
As stated in my previous post, selfish, snarky, the works.
Definitely has a soft side but he would NEVER admit it, and he will make excuses about it. (Him CARING about OTHERS, preposterous.)
Having a soft moment with his kids? You saw nothing. Saying something nice? You misheard him. Helping others? It was only to further his own goals. Etc.
Very vain. He carries one of those portable makeup compacts with the mirrors to fix anything messed up during work.
Paints/manicures his nails too.
DO NOT mess with his hair.
Clothes, depending on the cost he’ll be mad but you’ll live
Face, more pissed, but survival is possible
But hair? Your DEAD and BURIED.
One time, while Adam Jobs was still their mentor, a criminal cut his hair during a mission and Cyril almost killed the guy.
The only reason the man wasn’t put 7 feet under is because Amy held Cyril back before anything really bad happened.
Speaking of killing, Cyril would kill someone.
He hasn’t only because he has Amy and Wahlberg stopping him.
He denies it, but he’s weak to flattery and praise, especially if it’s from Wahlberg.
Cyril is the most “brain” of the trio compared to the other two, who have high points in brawn as well.
The least social of the three as well, people often don’t like him because of his personality.
It doesn’t bother him too much, or at least he pretends it doesn’t. He doesn’t like other people that much either.
Wahlberg Baigan
In this au the trio is closer to their 30-40s-ish (depending on where in the time line) so Wahlberg is less of a wise old man and more of a “kind and wise, but still rambunctious young man.”
His role in Eaton is still the same. He’s the principal who is open-minded and accommodating, but his recklessness and hope in the good in other does cause problems sometimes. Like letting Abel keep his Magia Lupus schemes. (It did work out in the end, but it was a bit of a close call.)
Though if something really serious/dangerous is happening he will step it up and take charge.
No one hurts people under his care, not without going through him.
(Like when he stopped Mash’s execution or fought with IZ in the manga/anime.)
He’s one of the few people who can read Cyril and bypass his tsundere exterior.
He also know how to get Cyril to help with things he doesn’t want to do (Like raising 5 kids together)
This usually involves buttering Cyril up with flattery.
(His relationship with Cyril is kinda like Arlecchino x Clervie, but with a happier ending.)
He loves children and teaching them, which was one of the reasons why he wanted to take in the quintuplets, and why he became a teacher/headmaster at Easton.
A lot more open about his feeling in general. If he loves someone, he’ll say/show so. The same goes for the people he doesn’t like or if he feels something is wrong.
The only reason he wouldn’t would be if it put someone else in danger or get In the way of him helping others. (Like being polite to the Bureau Director even though he doesn’t like him or agree with many of his methods.)
Not to say he would do nothing, but he would be less outright with his dislike.
Meliadoul Amy
Starting this by saying I have no clue if Amy or Meliadoul is the first name, so in this au, her first name is Amy.
If Cyril is a cat and Wahlberg is a dog then Amy is a fox.
Not as introverted as Cyril, but not as extroverted as Wahlberg.
A middle ground, though that is obviously not all she is.
She is kind but strict, like in canon.
Being the most powerful of the trio along with being the healer means of there is a problem she will whoop ass first, ask questions later. (And heal anyone who needs it afterwards.)
She heals with her chainsaw, but she also has degrees in medical practice (Magical and modern).
She uses her medical skills to run a doctor’s office and she will sometimes pop in to Easton to give things like medical checkups.
Unlike Wahlberg, when she needs to make Cyril do something’s it with taunting, reverse physiology, or straight up dragging him wherever he needs to be. She’ll do the same with Wahlberg if he gets too rambunctious.
Despite often seeming like the most responsible of the group, she is fairly reckless herself and can be quick to throw hands.
She also cares about her reputation (like in canon) and tries to be a good person, not just for herself/her morals, but for the public’s view on her too.
Despite caring about her public appearance, she mostly lives a life for herself.
Her personality can be compared to Nobara from Jjk.
(The trio is kinda like Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara, dynamic wise.)
Dubbed herself “Aunty Amy” to the quintuples. She acts like a cool wine aunt to them.
She was absolutely wingwoman-ing the heck out of WahlbergxCyril before they got together.
That’s it for now, If anyone feels like they want to add something or has any questions send me an ask and let me know please.

[ courtney eaton, non-binary, they / she ] — spotted in the streets of brooklyn, it’s arden graham. they have lived in the city for all their life, working as a mechanic. the 28 year old will probably be seen around carroll gardens a lot, seeing as that’s where they live. people say they can be a bit reticent and introverted, but friends know them to be warm-hearted and loyal. you know for sure you’ve found them when you’ve come across well-worn vans trainers, hands stained with car grease, fake smiles that hide a lot.
triggers: gender dysphoria / postpartum depression
BASIC STATS:
full name: arden mae graham
birthday: 6th october (28 years old)
gender: non-binary (they / she )
sexuality: pansexual
relationship status: very single
occupation: mechanic
BASIC INTRO:
6am, on the 6th of october, arden mae graham came kicking and screaming into the world!!
they were born and raised in brooklyn, she's an only child. their parents divorced when they were young, and she was primarily raised by their father.
they have a great relationship with their mother & still see her regularly but they are just closer to their father.
growing up arden was a “tomboy”, always getting into scrapes, and fights & helping their dad fix things.
their fascination with cars started when she was young, she'd hang out in her dad's garage, watching the guys fix things, and they'd often get involved in fixing cars.
eventually, they realised that they wanted to be a mechanic, their dad was super supportive & she started working at his shop.
as a young adult, they got close to one another one of their father's employees, they became friends, then best friends and then they eventually started dating.
one thing led to another and arden became pregnant, the pair decided to move in together & keep the baby, and everyone was super excited.
everything was going well, the couple was going from strength to strength and then arden gave birth to a little girl, that's when things changed.
they gave birth to a little girl, called ivy, for the first week, everything was "fine" but arden was obviously lying.
she struggled to connect with their daughter ivy, that "newborn spark" wasn't there, it was awkward.
ALSO, at this time, arden was struggling with gender dysphoria and they were starting to realise that she wasn't vibing with being a girl/mother, it was a whole confusing mess.
they ended up breaking things off with ivy's dad, and they moved back in with their dad, who was very helpful in looking after little baby ivy.
they also went into therapy, they got diagnosed with postpartum depression. they also did their research into gender and realised that they were non-binary!!
nowadays, they are doing so much better, they've moved out of their father's home and into their own apartment with ivy.
arden adores ivy now, they are so close, think lorelai and rory gilmore, but it's a healthy relationship.
they still work in their dad's shop, he's still very supportive of her!!
arden still has their moments but they are working on themselves, they feel a whole lot better about their life!!

Eaton family, Roaring Heights - #37
For many days, everything in the household felt somewhat "sluggish, stagnant", a huge contrast to their old life when there were still no kids and their parents were still alive. No new adventures and activities, always just work and kids.
This was the reason Kim picked up a new hobby - inventing. Thanks to the improved library, Kim can just drive there with her junk metal and start tinkering in the workshop area there. She saw Sharla the other day messing with junk metal and came up with a beautiful sculpture, so she thought, why not try working with the material, too?
It still didn't satisfy her curiosity and thirst for excitement and new adventures, so she thought another way to solve that - become a vampire.
One early evening, the whole household decided to go to the winter festival grounds for a change of scenery and to have fun. Kim made it first to the festival grounds, while the couple were still with their kids going on a stroll to the park. She saw Alessandro there, a close friend who's also a famous actor and a vampire, so she asked him to turn her. Her arm became a bit itchy for a while.
The next day, before sunrise, the first snow of the season poured down on the dry, clean and quiet streets of Roaring Heights.

I'm curious, im not from america so idk which part was necessarily affected in the LA fires besides palisades and malibu. Does Austin live in Los Feliz, if so could he have been affected by the fires hence why he's in North Cali?
Hi Anon, yes there are a few fires going on right now in the LA area. The biggest fires being the Pacific Palisades fire. However, the Eaton fire has also been destructive, and the town of Altadena also got hit pretty badly. 😔
Thankfully, they are getting some of these fires under containment, but the clean up and relief work is going to take months -- maybe even the entire year.
This was the most destructive fire in the LA area in history. It's going to take a long time for the city (and some families) to fully recover. 😢
I'm guessing that Austin is in Northern California to escape the fires as well. Even if the fire isn't directly in his area, it's just safer to be away from all of this mess if you can. Plus, the air quality hasn't been too great lately either. So, he's doing well to stay safe. ☺️
