Granny’s Christmas Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp baking powder

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ tsp almond extract (optional, for extra holiday flavor)

Red and green sprinkles or colored sugar

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, use a mixer to cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).

Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

Roll and Decorate: Scoop dough into 1-inch balls and roll them in red or green sprinkles (or colored sugar). Place on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake: Bake for 8–10 minutes or until the edges are just starting to brown. Be careful not to overbake!

Cool and Enjoy: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
