In general, I feel like Zim’s panic and paranoia are very important aspects of his character that sadly often get overlooked and underutilized in the fandom. I feel like some folks just kinda go ‘oh, well, Zim thinks he is the greatest and most fearsome Invader in the universe so obviously he is certain that he can beat every obstacle’ when… I mean, sometimes he is like this - but some of Zim’s most iconic moments are powered by his fear and anxieties about failure.
So many of Zim’s schemes are motivated by an assumption that Humans are a lot smarter and more observant than they actually are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or even just scarier and more dangerous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He probably would have conquered the planet in a day if he just directly pulled all of the technology he had at his disposal and marched his way publicly to President Land. But he is just so obsessed with the idea that the Enemy is basically constantly one second away from uncovering him that he just wastes his time on pointless ‘infiltration’ and ludicrously overcomplicated ideas of how to ‘subtly’ take over or weaken the Earth’s defenses via fast-food or the Skool Student Council or Dookie.
I mean, that is basically Duty!GIR’s big complaint about Zim in ‘GIR Goes Crazy and Stuff’. His progress has been stupid, because he’s been far too Stupidly Subtle about information gathering and world conquest and information gathering for the purpose of world conquest. When literally just heading to the public library and sucking out people’s brains is actually incredibly effective and has no real consequences.
Tumblr media
‘Walk for Your Lives’ is another excellent example of how Zim’s extreme ego and extreme anxiety go together. Zim is driven entirely by a totally made-up arbitrary ticking clock revolving around the idea that the Tallests WILL call again soon and so he MUST get rid of the Time Explosion NOW.
Tumblr media
But he’s overconfident in the sense that he is certain that the solution he comes up with is Actually Good and won’t just make everything worse even as literally everyone around tells him it would.
Tumblr media
Enter the Florpus’ plot kicks off with a very similar scenario. Zim just comes up with a Made-Up Deadline and a Made-Up Consequence for ‘forgetting Phase 2’ and just starts… stressing himself up with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On one level I think this is like… also a weird result of his Ego. You know, the logic being that if any potential challenge is not 100% effortless for him, Irk’s most amazing and powerful Invader, then it must be a horrible and fearsome threat. If Zim actually fully admitted that Earth is the stupidest, easiest-to-conquer planet in the universe - he would have to admit that failing to conquer this planet of all planets makes him a huge-ass loser. So instead, Zim salvages his own pride by constantly overestimating the humans.
But I also think in general Zim has a lot of anxiety and nervous energy. Maybe just from all the insecurities and failures he’s trying to deny and ignore all the time? And he’s just channeling them into the only channels he can consciously acknowledge - worrying about his enemies.

Something interesting about Invader Zim is how it might still follow the ideology that "adults suck, kidz rulez lol" that some cartoons in that era follow (see: FOP and Jimmy Neutron)
The other cartoons show kids hating adults for getting grounded, curfews and keeping order (all of those normal things parents do to educate their kids). Although there ARE some instances that hate is justified (looking at Crocker), the hate for parents and other older authority figures is petty and for childish excuses (I mean, they are all children, so it's kinda reasonable). In the Jimmy Neutron movie, kids think they could go for a long time without their parents until it was shown otherwise.
The thing is, in these cartoons, it's a silly mentality kids have until they realize they would be lost without them. In Invader Zim, it's not the kids who hate them, but the creators who want YOU to hate them. Because they are useless.
In Invader Zim most (if not all) adults are useless. Dib really wants someone to listen to him, he wants to depend on someone. Throughout the series he wants an adult to believe him (especially his father), but ends up fighting alone.
TLDR, regarding the "kids hate adults" stuff in cartoons, most shows make kids hate them for wanting to do the best for them but they are dependant on adults. In Invader Zim, they are useless, Dib is mostly independent from them but despite it all he doesn't hate them (although many kids would)

Ya know, I've been seeing a lot of stuff for the hc of Zim and Dib as found family lately, and something about it was actually bugging me a bit. Like, I really like zade, zadf, and zadr, and I just couldn't understand why I couldn't really get behind zads.
And then I realized it's ENTIRELY because of Professor Membrane.
I do not like the idea of Zim being absorbed into the Membrane family dynamic, because in the show (the IZ source I'm most familiar with) Professor Membrane is a really shitty parent, and there is nothing satisfying to me about Zim just hanging out at that house with Dib and Gaz, adding another sibling to an already fairly miserable household situation. Sure, they can support each other. But what is the point of keeping them stifled in that environment if Membrane is not present and being a parent?
BUT, consider the alternative: Dib and Gaz saying 'fuck this shit I'm out', and spending more time with Zim at his base. Eventually they just go off on space adventures or something because why not? Found family in space! No shitty dad! Maybe if you reeeeally want a parental figure, you could throw in a dash of the dad-nar hc in there for some extra spice. And THEN you could have Zim deal with his feelings about HIS 'parental' figures. If Lard Nar starts being a real dad to this group of ragamuffins, how does that reframe the way Zim feels about the Tallest? How does Dib feel about the fact that an alien could (most likely) be a better dad than his own father? How do the two of them react to getting positive attention they've never received from a parental figure before?
And when I started thinking of it that way, I saw the potential. I still don't think it's my favorite. I think I definitely enjoy more room for flexibility and ambiguity with Zim and Dib, and making them view each other as siblings almost boxes them into that role a bit. But I can see the potential for a really interesting story there!
Provided Membrane is out of the picture.

Bitcoin and Altcoins Update: Market Movements and Key Developments
Tumblr media
The cryptocurrency market has experienced some intriguing shifts recently, with Bitcoin and various altcoins demonstrating varying levels of performance. Here’s a detailed overview of the latest market movements and notable developments.
Bitcoin: A Modest Decline with Strong Weekly Gains
Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency, has seen a slight decline of 0.9%, bringing its current price to $64,166.3. Despite this recent dip, Bitcoin has shown significant strength over the past week, trading up by 8.5%. This positive weekly performance highlights Bitcoin's resilience and continued appeal as an investment asset, even amidst short-term fluctuations.
Ether: A Small Drop Amid Anticipated ETF Approval
Ether has fallen by 0.2%, settling at $3,444.58. The drop comes as market participants await potential regulatory news. Recent reports suggest that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) might approve a spot Ether ETF as early as next week. Such approval could have substantial implications for Ether's market dynamics, potentially driving up its value as institutional investment opportunities become more accessible.
SOL: Noteworthy Surge with ETF News
In contrast to Ether’s slight decline, Solana (SOL) has surged by 3.8%. This increase follows reports indicating that a spot SOL ETF is also in the pipeline. The anticipated approval of such an ETF could enhance Solana's visibility and attract new investment, contributing to its recent upward momentum.
ADA and XRP: Downturns Amid Market Volatility
Both Cardano (ADA) and Ripple (XRP) have experienced notable declines. ADA fell by 2.3%, while XRP saw a more substantial drop of 4.7%. These downturns reflect broader market volatility and may be influenced by various factors, including regulatory uncertainties and shifting investor sentiments.
Meme Tokens: DOGE and SHIB Face Declines
Among meme tokens, Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) have also faced declines. DOGE fell by 1.1%, while SHIB saw a more significant slide of 6.2%. The fluctuations in these tokens underscore the volatility often seen in the meme coin sector, where price movements can be heavily influenced by social media trends and speculative trading.
Conclusion
The cryptocurrency market continues to demonstrate its dynamic nature, with Bitcoin maintaining a strong weekly performance despite recent declines. Ether’s minor drop is tempered by the potential approval of a spot ETF, which could bolster its market position. Meanwhile, Solana’s recent rise reflects optimism around its forthcoming ETF, while ADA and XRP, along with meme tokens like DOGE and SHIB, face varying degrees of market pressure. As always, staying informed about these developments is crucial for investors navigating the ever-evolving crypto landscape.

It really is so interesting how Zim marries extreme paranoia and constant anxiety with also an overinflated ego and an absolute denial of his own mistakes and foibles.
Because Zim can very easily imagine himself failing. He does it often and very very vividly.
Tumblr media
He is constantly fretting about the possibility of failure - and yet when failure does arrive he just denies it as hard as he can. In Zim’s world doom is always imminent, but it never actually happens.
Maybe, in a weird way, this obsession with the worst-case scenarios in his brain kinda helps Zim with the denial of his own actually-existing-failures. Maybe it is easier for him to deny something bad has happened to him or is happening right now - when it still dwarves in comparison to the horror scenarios that he played up in his own mind?
