Did a bunch of tests specifically for POTS. Then went in to see my cardiologist to discuss the results.
Cardiologist: You have heart palpitations and tachycardia. Take magnesium for the palpitations. (Both are symptoms of POTS)
Me: So do I have POTS?
Cardiologist: well they did the test wrong so I don't know.
Cardiologist: how much does the tachycardia bother you?
Me: it doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is the lightheadedness, dizziness and feeling faint.
Cardiologist: there's this medication that you can try called ivabradine for the tachycardia. Take it for 3 months then come back.
$1500 to basically tell me that I do in fact have the symptoms I reported having 🥲

Halloween Cardiophile Get-Together
Happy Cardioween. Rumor has it that there is a Halloween Cardiophile Get-Together, at Mohegan Sun Casino, on Saturday, October 26. Fun begins whenever the first two people arrive. There is a Godsmack concert that evening, too, and other Halloween events. I’ll be there as early as necessary. Tis Halloween, so feel free to wear a mask, or whatever. Sun Patio is the tentative meeting location. If I am the only cardiophile who shows up, or if all other cardiophiles leave early, all is good, because I’ll go see not only Godsmack, but both opening bands. "Fire it up! Fire it up! Fire it up!"

everyone wish me luck i have blood work in the morning tomorrow
#zenith.txt#like. a lot of bloodwork. like every single panel or test they can think of amount of bloodwork#and i famously have very severe medical trauma around needles but SPECIFICALLY bloodwork so.#thats how you know this is serious for me to even be willing to go in#but yeah i have to do that AND watch my mom get hers (so double dose of my phobia) AND THEN i have to go to annoyher appointment for my mom#instead of going home to cry and go back to sleep like i was planning.... which also mean i actually have to get dressed#bc her second appointment is at a fancy place so i cant go in my ratty pjs like i was gonna since it was just at the hospital#AND THROUGH ALL OF THIS I WONT BE ABLE TO EAT UNTIL LIKE 1PM#AND IM ON MY PERIOD (the last day but still)#hell world hell world everything bad always happens to me#theyre also ordering ekg stress test and a ecg echocardiogram and a tilt table test for later in the month but they may add more tests#so i cant escape its literally just me being a lab rat for a month

so i’ve been diagnosed with a serious heart condition
i went in for what i thought was gonna be something minor but i apparently have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy LOL
luckily we caught it considering people commonly die from it because it goes undiagnosed and untreated. most people live a perfectly normal life with this condition when they treat it well and go see specialists regularly, which i am bc theres a center dedicated to this condition like an hour away from where i live
i’m on medication for it and i’m feeling well right now but my life is now changed forever 🫡 there’s a lot of things i need to change about my lifestyle which shouldn’t be too hard. i’m trying to keep high spirits but i found out today and it’s all just been rly shocking. my family is a great support to me rn especially my dad who slept in the uncomfortable hospital chair and on the floor with me last night and would reassure me when i was feeling sad 😭😭
definitely get ur blood pressure checked, get an ecg, and get an echocardiogram if u can friends

I appreciate the fact that my mum has been more supportive of my health issues recently, but today reminded me that she would still always believe a doctor over me.
I am pretty sure I have POTS. My echocardiogram, two xrays and two ECGs have all been normal. I have done many poor man’s tilt table tests at home with my Apple Watch, and they always show 30+ bpm increase from laying to standing that lasts for the full 10 minutes (in fact, it’s actually more like 40+ bpm) - or when I haven’t tested for the full 10 minutes, it’s because I get nauseous/dizzy and have to lay down.
My mum has made comments in the past like “you can’t say you have autism without a diagnosis” and such. I know that a diagnosis is important, but believing that a doctor knows everything about every condition and is never ever wrong is not helpful. I thought she had gotten over that mentality recently, but I was wrong.
She mentioned to me that someone we know suspects they have POTS. I asked her if she had told this person that I have it, and my mum said something like “well, I said you were being tested for it and that your tests so far have been inconclusive.” This is just not true. As I said, the tests on my heart came back clear, but those aren’t to assess POTS anyways. I have had two ‘stand tests’, but they were done incorrectly both times. A quick internet search shows you that a stand test for POTS involves laying for 5 minutes and checking your heart rate, then standing for 10 minutes and measuring your heart rate after 2, 5 and 10 minutes. When I’ve had a doctor do the test in clinic, my ‘resting’ heart rate was taken immediately after I had just moved from one room to another (aka not my resting heart rate) and then I was immediately made to stand up and have my heart rate tested. Then of course they say there’s not much of a change in heart rate.
To an extent, I could justify this attitude. But you know what makes it worse? My dad somewhat recently told my mum and me that he believes he has ADHD. No plans for a diagnosis, just that he thinks he has it. I figured my mum would not pay any attention to this. But then one time after my dad did a task that involved a lot of focus, my mum was like “you did so well considering it must have been hard with your ADHD.” Like wth? She never accepted me as autistic when I told her I was sure I had it, even though I am seeking a diagnosis. She doesn’t believe my POTS either. I assume she won’t until I’m diagnosed. But my dad just randomly announces he has ADHD with no plans to be tested and the whole family is just…on board with it? Why??
