One of my dearest friends needs help, and he doesn't know what else to do besides ask. I also don't know what to do besides ask. Do you think you can help Matt find a living donor? There's no request for money here; Matt is lucky enough not to need a gofundme.
I knew Matt when he was diagnosed, and I have watched as he has dramatically changed his diet, taken awful meds, and otherwise done everything he possibly could to slow this outcome. But kidney failure was going to happen, no matter what. At his website he talks about PKD and its severity.
Hi folks. My name is Matthew Balaun. I'm a 45 year old father of a wonderful young daughter. I'm also in need of a replacement kidney.
I was born with polycystic kidney disease, which is the same disease that ultimately led to my mother's death when she was 46. I was diagnosed with the same disease in my early 20s. I've done everything I could to slow the progression of the disease, but there is no cure and the only real treatment is transplant.
It is a hell of a thing to have to ask, but if any of you are willing to consider being a living kidney donor, it would mean the world to me. You would literally be saving my life.
https://matt.needsakidney.org/
Edit July 2024: My friend is down to 12% kidney function. The world needs him, as it needs all of you. If you are willing to even think about becoming a donor someday, would you consider taking Emory University's donor quiz at https://www.emorylivingdonor.org/ please? If you are willing to copy this image to show to friends, please do. Matt is having some bumper stickers made with the website also. Would anyone be willing to put them up? I would be happy to send them to you.
Thank you for reading ❤️

ateş kuşları From episode 22 to 27
This feisty character is Kara. He will make you laugh sometimes and sad sometimes because of his story. His brothers left him for organ dealers when he was young. They stole his kidney and tortured him until his other kidney failed. He returns to take revenge on his brothers because they abandoned him, but he lives his last days refusing to accept any kidney transplant, but in the end he collapses and wakes up to discover that his older brother has donated his kidney to him, but he is angry because it was done without his permission. But it was his wife who allowed it.

Update
Good morning, y'all. I know I've been gone a lot lately, but I'll be back soonish, I swear. I've been fostering kittens (I have so many pictures!) and getting both sons graduated and one moved to the U.K. and wading through teenagers and nieces.
Speaking of nieces, I'll update you on them shortly, and want to thank you so much for your donations to their fundraiser. Over a year later, things are FINALLY settled.
There's been some more trauma in my family. My cousin Lacee just had double kidney failure: she's only 32, and now she's on dialysis 3x/week. AND, this is so fucking tragic, I can't get over it... Halle, her younger sister (28) died on Saturday. (Fentanyl, maybe, no one knows for sure, yet.) I changed these girls' diapers. This is so unfair.
If you've got a little extra, Lacee's friend made a GoFundMe for her to get through the next few months and pay hospital bills.  She’s a waitress/bartender, so you can infer what you will about her insurance and savings.
We're all going to a funeral tomorrow for someone who was FAR too young to die. I'm so angry about it.
Thank goodness for kittens in these hard times, huh?
*Please, please be careful of anything that might be laced with fentanyl, y'all. Many people never even know they're ingesting it, and then just... don't wake up. My nieces' father works at a funeral home, and says they get too many young bodies there because of that.*
Here's Lacee carrying my train at my wedding waaaay back in '98 (25 years this year!). And below that is little Halle, who was a very serious flower girl indeed. I love these girls. Have I said I'm angry. I'm so enraged. And heartbroken. Life shouldn't be this hard, and I'm going to compose a stern letter to The Management to complain about it.

Blizzard, South Dakota // Heather Calhoun
Months afterwards, I see the electrical poles piled along the road.
When the blizzard smothered the land, my tribe was displaced. Like shot gun blasts heard in the distance, those poles snapped, weighted by ice.
A month in motels, we ate fast food, while the winter deer meat expired in the basement.
Movie stars flocked to Haiti. We watched the news, wondered about us, about our reservation, about our home.
Those dialysis machines failed without electricity, pushed people farther away, closer to the spirit world.
I still hear those poles ricochet at these wakes.

Dear Friends, Family, and Animal Lovers,
I come to you with a heavy heart and a plea for help for our beloved feline friend, Meow Meow. Our sweet Meow Meow, a vibrant and affectionate 4-year-old indoor cat, has recently fallen gravely ill. It all started this past Sunday, April 7th, when he began vomiting incessantly that we rushed him to the veterinary clinic.
Meow Meow's kidneys were failing, and the levels were so alarmingly high that they couldn't even be accurately read on the charts. Our once lively and vocal companion now lay weak and lethargic, unable to muster the energy to even meow.
The vet recommended immediate hospitalization for at least three days to stabilize his condition and administer the necessary treatment. They said his kidney damage is severe so we are praying for the best for him to fight it. This unexpected turn of events has left us emotionally and financially drained. The bills for his critical care are mounting rapidly, and we find ourselves struggling to meet them.
Meow Meow holds a special place in our hearts. His outgoing and friendly nature has brought joy to everyone he meets. He always greets me with enthusiastic meows (which is why we named him Meow Meow as anyone who meets him can tell you he is the loudest cat you will ever meet) and affectionate rubs every time I come home, a routine that I have grown so used to that when I came home on Monday to take him to the vet after my class, I was greeted with silence as he stayed in my bed instead of running towards me by the sound of the front door opening. He would not even open his eyes and that is when I knew something was really wrong. I had even tried to get him to move by placing him on the floor, but he then struggled to get back on my bed as he did not even have the energy to jump.
Any contribution, no matter how small, would be immensely appreciated. Your generosity will not only help cover Meow Meow's medical expenses but also provide us with the reassurance that we are not alone in this difficult time. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe campaign and sharing our story with your friends and family. Together, we can give Meow Meow the fighting chance he deserves and bring him back home where he belongs.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support, and love for our precious Meow Meow.

So. A lot had happened since I last posted...
In April of 2022 I tested positive for HIV. Not long after that I was diagnosed with stage 2 kidney failure. Over the course of 6mo, those kidney issues escalated to 0% functionality and in December I was sent to the ER for emergency dialysis. I’ve been on dialysis for 6 months, home dialysis for about 2 weeks now.
I’ll be moving home to Texas to be near family in the next few weeks. My boyfriend and I decided that this was the best way to go, as I need the support and he’s unable to move due to his job. Still amicable, still 100% civil, we just realized it’s time.
Pics are from the last year or so

I'm honestly not that worried about going into kidney failure. I've faced it once before and made it through. I'll do it again.

Fuck global warming, it’s 52 in February in Michigan! All I needed this morning was my hoodie and it was fucking HOT in the hospital but I was cheeky and didn’t wear a bra today because of my oversized hoodie and man did I regret it, my big naturals need a bra lol I had my annual heart appointment this morning though so I would have had to take it off anyway so I said fuck it entirely. This morning was so stressful, my blood draw was really easy so very thankful for that but the hospital app was down this morning so we didn’t know where to go and the front desk sent us to the main hospital’s PET scan department when I apparently needed to be in the PET scan department in the cardiovascular center. So, I had to walk all over the various buildings to finally get to the right department and was a tad late but thankfully I was the only appointment so it wasn’t a big deal. For fucking once in my life they got the IV in the first try 😭 I almost cried, I’m such a hard stick it usually takes 4-5 attempts to start an IV on me. So, I was very thankful it went in so easily, it burned really badly though, or at least the medication did. They inject you with radioactive dye to make everything show up and then give you medication to simulate exercise all while you’re in an MRI machine to get imaging of the heart. It’s such a weird sensation, you go from half falling asleep to suddenly feeling like your sprinting in seconds, it’s not necessarily unpleasant but it is odd but like I mentioned earlier the medication burned quite a bit going in. The imaging was apparently sufficient even though the drug didn’t do its job as well as it was supposed to because they sent me home in a timely fashion. I got back home and took a very long nap and apparently the girl who wrapped my IV didn’t wrap it tight enough because the dresssing was soaked in blood when I took it off later. It’s bruised but not awfully. All in all things went better than they could have. Downside my labs aren’t good at all. My tacrolimus level is an 8 it’s supposed to be between 4-6, so that’s not good but reasonably easy to fix, they’ll just lower my dose again and repeat labs next week most likely. The really bad thing though is my liver is crazy out of whack again, which really blows. It might be as easily explained as my enzymes are spiked because I just got over the flu but last time it was this high is when I had CMV. I’ll get my results for the CMV test tomorrow. In more news no one cares about but I over share is my parathyroid is very high which is actually good because it finally explains my chronic fatigue and weird appetite lately. Hopefully they can get it under control and my energy levels will return and I might be able to do things again. In small good things my kidneys are stable, they’re stage 3b kidney failure but they’ve also been there for like 7 years so they’re not getting worse, dance party time.
TL:DR: I’m still dying slowly but instead of just my heart and kidneys doing the dirty work now my liver is back on board for murder too.

Henlo I have had kidney failure back in 2018, and have since gotten a kidney transplant. If you have any questions you can ask and I'll answer it to the best of my ability.
