Dustin has been waiting eagerly to get his hands on a copy of the next book in the new fantasy series he's started reading.

It's definitely not a popular series. It's clever and confusing and very very long, and it's written by a niche, mostly-unknown British author with a tiny but enthusiastic cult following, and so, despite Dustin's loud and very persuasive arguments, not a single bookstore has shown any interest in stocking it, leaving poor Dustin with no choice but to rely on the library ordering it in.

And he's been waiting. For months.

He's been checking in so often that he's pretty sure the librarian wasn't joking when she threatened him with a restraining order.

But finally, finally, the blessed day is here.

Except it turns out to be more like a cursed day. Because when Dustin turns up, practically vibrating with excitement, he finds that the book, the one single book, his book, has already been snapped up.

Because it turns out that reservations mean absolutely nothing to the librarians of Hawkins, especially when weighed against Dustin's immense backlog of late fees and Billy's twinkling eyes and charming smile...

i mentioned this a little the other day, mason unintentionally triggering alex's bobby-related ptsd, and this moment in particular really broke my heart. just, her walking into this frosty scene the morning after a tender goodnight, trying to figure out why he's pissed, what she did wrong, and then, in this arena of mock violence, he surges up behind her, looming as he lays a hand, and snaps at her to stop fucking up, to pay attention--

and. like.

she just instinctively freezes up, terrified, wilting into apology and appeasement

I've just finished reading both your Perth Shifter books in just 1 weekend because they were SO. GOOD.

Would you ever write oneshots of Braden's second heat with Coll and Aodhan's first heat with Thomas or the first time they have sex?

Also, Hunter. I think I've fallen in love with the sad alpha boi 😭 Will he be getting his own book one day?

I'm so glad you enjoyed the Perth Shifters books! That makes me so so happy.

Unfortunately for now, everything to do with Perth Shifters is kind of benched since The Gentle Wolf bombed financially. (To give you some perspective, I make more in a month on Patreon than I have in The Gentle Wolf's entire lifetime).

I really want to write Hunter's book, but if I do, it'll probably be via Patreon first as a serial since that's definitely the way I tend to do things! I already have a playlist and a name for his book and like... I know who his partner will be and I have a plot, so it's mostly just down to...whether I want to take a huge financial risk like that again, and in today's economic climate I can't justify it. Unfortunately my books just do not do as well as my serials! And for similar reasons writing oneshots of like Braden/Coll and Aodhan/Thomas are also harder to justify. Like I don't *only* write for money, but that was the *main* reason I wrote the Perth Shifters books, so if they don't make an income, they have to give way to the stuff I like writing most at the moment that *also* keep me going economically. :D But I have not forgotten about Hunter! He's just...having a break for a little while, lol.

If you're interested in more omegaverse from me though, I'm writing an original (and completely free) serial right now which uses some of the same biology and other worldbuilding (though it's more dystopian), and is even still set in Western Australia, in my Underline the Black series!

I tend to write a lot of the same kind of vibes in my serial writing (trauma recovery, hurt/comfort, happy endings), so you may enjoy it! And if you only like finished stories there's a lot of those there too. :D

I don't understand why scholastic would just completely change many of the original sources like that :/ The french, dutch, Spanish and the other dubs seems fine and can keep up with the Italian book without altering it to much. Could they change it because it doesn't fit the "American / international brand" perhaps?

I dunno. I guess there's this 'Murican emphasis on keeping things "kid-friendly" or something. Can't make it too emotional because this is a kids' series. As an example, the scene where Geronimo sees a sick Blossom in Guardian of the Realm is very different in English compared to Italian. In Italian, they ramped up the emotion like so (paraphrasing the Italian by the way):

"I stepped forward to meet the Queen of Fairies, the Lady of Peace, the Keeper of Happiness, Queen Blossom herself... who was lying in bed, weak and pale. I knelt before her bedside, a tear slipping down my cheek."

We get a list of all of Blossom's many titles to emphasize how much of a great person Blossom is, and now she's on death's doorstep because of the horrible atrocity that was done to the Crystal Castle (that is Winglet being kidnapped). It also emphasizes what Geronimo is feeling in the moment, which could be a combination of whiplash and sadness.

In the English, it's kept WAY more lighthearted, having the narrator undermine Geronimo's own emotions, EVEN THOUGH HE'S THE ONE NARRATING.

"When we reached Blossom's quarters, the queen was lying on her bed. She didn't look great. I mean, usually the Lady of Peace has a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eye. Now she just stared ahead blankly.

"I tried not to make a scene, but when I looked at her I started blubbering like a baby mouselet. Oh, how embarrassing!"

Scholastic!Geronimo, literally everyone else in the room is crying, I'm sure no one would've blamed you--

But you get the idea. Geronimo Stilton as a brand is known most of the time to be "lighthearted", so naturally they think "oh, Geronimo is being sad here, but this is a lighthearted book! Oh well, guess we'll have to change it!" By undermining the tragedy of the moment and having Geronimo lampshade his own grief. Well done, Scholastic. /s

It's also way simpler from a writing context, because as most of us know, most people think children are innocent if not stupid, and that perspective is very prevalently shared in places like the US. Sheltering mentality or something like that. First they censor Oscar being deaf, then they prevent Violet from having an emotional subplot in Ghost of the Shipwreck, and now G is getting slandered by the English translators.

What the hell, Scholastic.
