📽️ Enola Holmes 2 (2022)

I think I liked this one better than the first, but only because it explored more of Enola’s relationship with Tewkesbury. The two movies are pretty similar in quality. The first one did a lot of setting up, so I also enjoyed this one more because I already knew the main characters. I really enjoyed both movies, though. I know a third one hasn’t officially been confirmed, but I hope there is another one because these are good movies.

Sex/nudity: 1/10 (kissing)

Language: 1/10 (mild British exclamations)

Violence: 4/10 (a little more gruesome than the first one, several fights, some deaths on and off screen with bodies shown)

The Scottish actor Archibald Duncan was born in Glasgow on 26th May 1914.

His father was a regimental sergeant major and his mother a postmistress. He was educated at Govan High School and afterwards and worked as a welder in the Glasgow shipyards.

It was at the Citizens Theatre Company that Duncan joined the training ground of many Scottish actors including, Molly Urquart, Duncan Macrae, Gordon Jackson and Eileen Herlie. He then made his Scottish acting debut in Juno and the Paycock, playing all three gunmen, at Glasgow's Alhambra in May 1944.

Duncan went on to star in London's West End with the likes of the great Scottish character actor Alistair Sim and the late George Cole. Film roles started to follow with , Floodtide , The Gorballs Story, The Elusive Pimpernel, Green Grow the Rushes, Henry V, The Lavender Hill Mob, You're Only Young Twice and Walt Disney's The Story Of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men as 'Red Gill' amongst many others. Duncan also teamed up with Richard Todd and James Robertson Justice in Disney’s Rob Roy the Highland Rogue as Dugal Mac Gregor.

One of Duncan's first big TV roles was as Inspector Lestrade in the 1954 series Sherlock Holmes, but perhaps Archibald Duncan is best remembered for his second Robin Hood role, where 6'2" Duncan played Little John alongside Richard Greene in The Adventures of Robin Hood which ran for 143 episodes on ITV here and CBS in the states from 1955 to 1959. I just had a wee look and many of the episodes are on Youtube.

Duncan's portrayal of Little John would be fondly remembered decades later for his combination of strength, skill and humour. It was during the filming this unforgettable series that this Scottish gentle giant proved to be a true hero and managed to prevent a runaway horse from hurtling towards a group of spectators, consisting of mainly children, watching close by. For this brave feat, he was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery and £1,360 in "damages". But it also resulted in him missing the recording of eleven episodes of Robin Hood. So between times, a replacement was found in fellow Scotsman, Rufus Cruickshank.

Another great Scottish film he appeared in was Ring of Bright Water. Archie Duncan's career in television production carried on with parts in programmes like Z Cars, Hereward the Wake, Orlando, Black Beauty and Bootsie and Snudge.

Sadly in 1978 he suffered a massive stroke which caused paralysis down his right side. Sadly he passed away at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, London aged 65 on 24th July 1979.

Enola poster analysis

The Enola poster 2 is actualy much more then just a fun picture puzzle to spot the main actors. It actually tells us a lot about the story already

The most important thing is a) where the people are looking at and b) the details

1. Sherlock and Moriaty

While Enola Holmes 2 was filmed, there were uncomfirmed rumors that Moriaty might play an important role in the upcoming movie. And surprise, surprise, the poster features THIS headline:

“Sherlock Holmes has met his N...” Nemesis? And who is also part of the Enola 2 cast who recently played a lot of baddies? David Thewlis. Who can also be found on the poster:

2. Looks

It is really important to identify where the characters are looking at. Because “Moriaty” is not the only one looking at Holmes. So is Sharon Duncan-Brewster (who plays a kind of sinister role, if i remeber correctly... which can mean everything. The Irregulars John Watson was also supposed to be “sinister” and then turned out to be a heartbroken gay man being in love with Sherlock..), Abbie Hern (we do not know who she plays so far...) and Tewkesbury.

I am really surprised Tewkesbury is not looking at Enola but maybe he is searching for her? Because.... point 3

3. Enola

She is the only one looking directly at the viewer, the only one not moving, completly relaxed. And look who is the only one spotting her:

Lestrade.

But more important, this:

A wanted-Poster for Enola. Which would also explain why we see her handcuffed in the newest promo pics.

4. Details

There are a lot of envlopes handed around, but also a Right for Women flyer, and you can NOT see who the hand belongs to. Notice also, no Eudoria in the poster, at least I can not see her...? Is it her hand?

5. Looks 2

Most of the people are looking to the right side of the picture. Something is happening there. Only a few are looking the other way. F.e. the character of Gabriel Tierney who is standing close to Enola

6. Further Details

The Lyon Matches, in the right bottom corner, hinting at the girl going missing. And a widow in the middle of the pic. We already saw some BTS pics with Tewkesbury  being at a kind of funeral.

I am left confused about the girl in male cloths in the left corner. And I am having a hard time identifying all the men on the picture. Who are they?

lmaooo if halt is Sherlock then Duncan is 100% Lestrade; the resigned, exasperated figure of authority who goes along with Sherlock/Halt’s unconventional problem-solving methods because hey at least he gets results, and who is shown absolutely 0 respect from this infuriatingly clever man (yknow that scene where Sherlock doesn’t know Lestrade’s first name? That, but with Halt and Duncan. It would be so much funnier with these two, though, because Duncan is the king of araluen, so it’s like, “YOU’VE BEEN LIVING HERE FOR OVER TWO YEARS, LITERALLY EVERYONE REFERS TO ME AS ‘KING DUNCAN’—NOT EVEN THE READERS KNOW MY LAST NAME—AND YOU WORK FOR ME, HOW DO YOU STILL NOT KNOW MY NAME YOU INSUFFERABLE MAN.” (Halt probably does know Duncan’s name and is just pretending not to because he likes to piss him off. The Scottish actor Archibald Duncan was born in Glasgow on 26th May 1914.

His father was a regimental sergeant major and his mother a postmistress. He was educated at Govan High School and afterwards and worked as a welder in the Glasgow shipyards.

It was at the Citizens Theatre Company that Duncan joined the training ground of many Scottish actors including, Molly Urquart, Duncan Macrae, Gordon Jackson and Eileen Herlie. He then made his Scottish acting debut in Juno and the Paycock, playing all three gunmen, at Glasgow's Alhambra in May 1944.

Duncan went on to star in London's West End with the likes of the great Scottish character actor Alistair Sim and the late George Cole. Film roles started to follow with , Floodtide , The Gorballs Story, The Elusive Pimpernel, Green Grow the Rushes, Henry V, The Lavender Hill Mob, You're Only Young Twice and Walt Disney's The Story Of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men as 'Red Gill' amongst many others. Duncan also teamed up with Richard Todd and James Robertson Justice in Disney’s Rob Roy the Highland Rogue as Dugal Mac Gregor.

One of Duncan's first big TV roles was as Inspector Lestrade in the 1954 series Sherlock Holmes, but perhaps Archibald Duncan is best remembered for his second Robin Hood role, where 6'2" Duncan played Little John alongside Richard Greene in The Adventures of Robin Hood which ran for 143 episodes on ITV here and CBS in the states from 1955 to 1959. I just had a wee look and many of the episodes are on Youtube.

Duncan's portrayal of Little John would be fondly remembered decades later for his combination of strength, skill and humour. It was during the filming this unforgettable series that this Scottish gentle giant proved to be a true hero and managed to prevent a runaway horse from hurtling towards a group of spectators, consisting of mainly children, watching close by. For this brave feat, he was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery and £1,360 in "damages". But it also resulted in him missing the recording of eleven episodes of Robin Hood. So between times, a replacement was found in fellow Scotsman, Rufus Cruickshank.

Another great Scottish film he appeared in was Ring of Bright Water. Archie Duncan's career in television production carried on with parts in programmes like Z Cars, Hereward the Wake, Orlando, Black Beauty and Bootsie and Snudge.

Sadly in 1978 he suffered a massive stroke which caused paralysis down his right side. Sadly he passed away at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, London aged 65 on 24th July 1979.

Helena Bonham Carter will return to once again portray Eudoria Holmes in Netflix’s Enola Holmes sequel. Also returning for the sequel are director Harry Bradbeer and writer Jack Thorne. Enola Holmes is based on the novels by Nancy Springer.
