The Scottish actor Archibald Duncan was born in Glasgow on 26th May 1914.
His father was a regimental sergeant major and his mother a postmistress. He was educated at Govan High School and afterwards and worked as a welder in the Glasgow shipyards.
It was at the Citizens Theatre Company that Duncan joined the training ground of many Scottish actors including, Molly Urquart, Duncan Macrae, Gordon Jackson and Eileen Herlie. He then made his Scottish acting debut in Juno and the Paycock, playing all three gunmen, at Glasgow's Alhambra in May 1944.
Duncan went on to star in London's West End with the likes of the great Scottish character actor Alistair Sim and the late George Cole. Film roles started to follow with , Floodtide , The Gorballs Story, The Elusive Pimpernel, Green Grow the Rushes, Henry V, The Lavender Hill Mob, You're Only Young Twice and Walt Disney's The Story Of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men as 'Red Gill' amongst many others. Duncan also teamed up with Richard Todd and James Robertson Justice in Disney’s Rob Roy the Highland Rogue as Dugal Mac Gregor.
One of Duncan's first big TV roles was as Inspector Lestrade in the 1954 series Sherlock Holmes, but perhaps Archibald Duncan is best remembered for his second Robin Hood role, where 6'2" Duncan played Little John alongside Richard Greene in The Adventures of Robin Hood which ran for 143 episodes on ITV here and CBS in the states from 1955 to 1959. I just had a wee look and many of the episodes are on Youtube.
Duncan's portrayal of Little John would be fondly remembered decades later for his combination of strength, skill and humour. It was during the filming this unforgettable series that this Scottish gentle giant proved to be a true hero and managed to prevent a runaway horse from hurtling towards a group of spectators, consisting of mainly children, watching close by. For this brave feat, he was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery and £1,360 in "damages". But it also resulted in him missing the recording of eleven episodes of Robin Hood. So between times, a replacement was found in fellow Scotsman, Rufus Cruickshank.
Another great Scottish film he appeared in was Ring of Bright Water. Archie Duncan's career in television production carried on with parts in programmes like Z Cars, Hereward the Wake, Orlando, Black Beauty and Bootsie and Snudge.
Sadly in 1978 he suffered a massive stroke which caused paralysis down his right side. Sadly he passed away at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, London aged 65 on 24th July 1979.

Thinking about a Persona 5 Bayonetta AU
Ok, so we all call Bayonetta Joker’s mom, but has anyone ever thought of Joker as Bayonetta?
I’ve seen a lot of male Umbra OCs, so I’d say that in this universe, the Umbra and Lumen aren’t one-gender exclusive
Joker is an Umbra witch with no memory of who he is, currently living in Tokyo
Naturally Akechi Goro is Jeanne
The other Phantom Thieves are there too, helping Joker find his lost memories
Perhaps Sumire could be Luka, and she thinks Joker killed her sister?
The Velvet Room could be the Gates of Hell, with Igor and Lavenza also assisting Joker by making him new weapons, like Rodin
A Persona would be the demon that a witch contracts with. The more powerful a witch is, the more demons they can contract with
Arsene would be Joker’s main contract, but he can summon more like in canon
Same with Goro, who at first only summons Robin Hood, but then later reveals he can also summon Loki
The rest of the gang can only summon one Persona/demon each.
So technically, they’re also witches, but they’re from the modern era unlike Joker
Honestly, I’m not sure on the details on how they all met or became witches, except for Morgana whose backstory is the same as canon
Joker possesses the Left Eye of Darkness, so the Phantom Thieves travel to Vigrid to find the Right Eye and discover Joker’s past
Along the way they battle angels who keep talking about “reuniting the eyes of the world”
“May Yaldabaoth grace you!”
Finding a little boy named Akira who calls Joker daddy
Everyone finds this funny/adorable except for Joker
Spoilers for the first Bayonetta? I’ve technically spoiled a bit of P5...
Over 500 years ago, a female Lumen sage and a male Umbra witch fell in love and conceived a child named Akira, who would grow up to claim the Left Eye and become the man known as Joker
Goro and Akira were childhood friends, but after sealing Akira away to protect him, Goro was captured and brainwashed by the angels
But he is able to break free and help the Phantom Thieves rescue Joker
They fight the revived Yaldabaoth, and yes, the climax of the battle is Joker summoning Satanael and punching Yaldabaoth out of his body into the sun
#persona 5#p5#p5r#bayonetta#p5 au#bayonetta au#i also have ideas for a bayonetta 2 au if you guys are interested#i've also tossed around some ideas for bayo 3#but i haven't really committed because bayo 3 plotline#it doesn't help that i'm a hardcore akeshu/shuake shipper#so#you know#ask me about this AU

went back to rosalind krauss for something unrelated only to find this nice treat i hadn't thought to look for. i admit that amniotic fluid belongs to sophie lewis to me now. "the originality of the avant-garde" comes out in 1981, though it would be anthologized in and other modernist myths in 1986, one year after "a cyborg manifesto." i feel startled, silly, and forgetful, that i can't think of where all this was coming from in that moment (i will say this again but: i have a degree in exactly this). but it is also probably true that rosalind krauss is getting left out of what we remember--even though everyone remembers this essay. i hadn't thought of "myth" as so of-the-moment, which was silly. i'm persuading myself to pick it up. the thing i came here for is about the use of Modernism for a painter today, i am rereading some basics. but there's this second thing i have a stack of books about (mary kelly), something i don't have a name for yet. one joke we have in the household is "dialectical natalism." mary kelly doesn't offer this. sylvia lavin picks up "and other postmodernist myths" in 2018--surely this had been done before, but i remember this because it transformed me. (the book turned out as other postmodernization effects, i haven't been able to get my hands on it.) i'm making a note here that i don't really know how the psychoanalytic moment is going down in the art world right now. i will ask my friends who would know.
i told him i'm going to write about his faces and he could write about his bodies. i said i don't have much to say about bodies-- wrong, i have a women's studies degree. i'm texting him right now asking what he thinks of rodin, which is how krauss opens "originality." i bought him her de kooning book about the women last year. on faces: i told him about sylvia lavin's faciality (kissing fish are also not like the Lacanian mother through whose gaze the infant’s uncoordinated body becomes a legible face, because kissing aborts the regime of faciality in toto). then i said, in the two years since we have been talking about this, i have kept this a secret from you, but what i want to talk about is "open casket." i want to write about your paintings and "open casket." so the three of us (m was there, and his mom came in and out) pulled up "open casket" on his laptop and we did a crit. he had seen it at the whitney, i don't know when. before i arrived that day he had been doing some takes on guston's "painter in bed," and we noted the similarities, we talked about her guston influences. he (m) does these paintings, and she does these paintings too, her other paintings, where faces have this comic iconography, like guston, and like george condo. she also does these paintings with the kind of muralist neoclassical modernism--monumental, totally dull compositions (to me)--that remind me, too, of early guston. i can't browse and skim her work without this driving me mad--a painter hung up totally on the twentieth century, dropping bits about her innate maternal empathy in the press to distract them from it. i could not hate an artist more than i hate her. history will vindicate us. i googled her name and guston to look for her stalking about his influence and found that she was one of the mouthpieces of the cancellation stunt. a few years ago he got me a book on guston's hood paintings, it's on the shelf in my bedroom instead of with the rest of my art books.
he saw the painting when it was up and he didn't think it was good. one of the many things to hate about this painting is that in obliterating the face she was so obviously picking up Modernism as a subject--Modernism and its stepsister, the history of seeing--then she built this elaborate cover to keep from getting caught doing something so, maybe, unfashionable in its own way. maybe that's it. this is funny because the project we are working on is essentially, well, you have to explain why you paint like this--Modernistly. so we're writing about that. i read to them (m and m) a list i had written in my notebook when i was on a train, of art world news items spilling into commentary ecosystem that maybe didn't really exist for them to spill into before that long ago. or what i wrote was: well, i think i left my stenopad at his mother's house, a panic for another day. i think i wrote, anti-woke (although that isn't what they all are): dana schutz, the staged cancellation of the philip guston show, epstein gugenheim, and the epstein clinton painting, the climate change stunts, maybe emrata v richard prince.
on bodies: we were looking at his slides. i told him i don't know what to say about bodies, so i'll ask you some questions, i'll brainstorm. i asked him if he had been thinking about the george bellows boxing pictures before he did these and he said he hadn't been. these paintings aren't really that modernist at all, but i have to talk about them as if that's what they're about because that's the only thing i know anything about. i say the thing i think about when i look at bellows's boxing paintings is the industrial sublime. i am also in this phase where i want us to coin a new _ sublime so bad. it's not just about the awe, and the upward wonder and the glow, it's more about this moment where musculature and the body was this visual technology at the center of the cultural rupture of the invention of photography, and then moving pictures. so then we looked at muybridge, i had forgotten about bacon's thing about exactly this. i find it impossible to learn anything about bacon, which is funny because i'm writing about/for a painter defending himself against accusations of warmed over bacon. i told him what we need is an essay comparing the bacon in teorema and the bacon in last tango and it feels like i'm the only one on earth here to do it but every single critical tool for making this analysis is just out of reach. i've been working on it. i shouldn't have read the deleuze. but then we're looking at these photographs and i say, you know, a unique angle i feel really qualified to talk about is the history of physique photography, which i then explain. he says he'd been working with tom of finland, and just then i remember i bought him an etienne postcard at the leather museum and i put it in the copy of the david sylvester bacon interviews he loaned me, it's here in my bag. so we look at that, and mapplethorpe, and so on. his parents are photographers, i'm helping his mother with some archives. i'm not sure this is about bodies in the same way. the hook here is that we are two people hung up on the twentieth century, wrestling with the twentieth century. (coming back to this: to be hung up on--to be strung up on a hook. like in my favorite movie about the twentieth century and the rupture of industrialization...) he has all these things to say about it, and that's good for his artist's statement. when i look at the bellows painting i see the conflict, contradiction, encounter, what have you, of the moving image. when i see muscle in motion today i am still seeing that same thing. to pick up Modernism must be in some way to pick up or analogize the conflict or contradiction of modernity. i talk about two ways to understand a history of modern painting, a very vulgar way of putting it, and that he has much more of an engagement with this genealogy of the mechanics of sight--the proposition of self and other--and me i tend to talk about the transformation of the surface. he's not sure about this especially because he's all about de kooning.
i want to move on from this and get to our "second book project," which will be a dialogue in book ("like the gayle rubin judith butler interview," as i am always saying). when we first met he was watching old buckley firing line clips. we wanted to have an old talk show like this so bad. i want to see the literary interview come back for the left and the art world. a different kind. this is hugely my bottom line. the phaidon mary kelly book has a great one with douglas crimp that does exactly what i'm looking for--a dialogue historicizing the recent past with two people on different sides of the thing. that's for another discussion, but this is all i think about. i want the dialogue, although after writing this post i think i will incorporate some such diagesis as i have here. i think i convinced him that we can call book two "dirtbag modern," which has been the title of my notes for two years. ("well, how did we meet?" "i suppose we did a podcast.") maybe amber's book will have come out, and be worth talking about...

My January 2024 Reads
Hi everyone, as every month I would like to review the books I read this month was such a fun one because it had everything from demigods and monsters to fantasy stories and romances and I liked most of them. Also, I finally found two books of one of my favorite series I read last year and I am very excited to talk about them here. There are nine of them so let’s start I will leave also the Goodreads link for you to check them out if you want.
The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1) (Rick Riordan): I started reading because I started watching the amazing Disney adaptation of it and it was so worth it. The plot was amazing and had adventure, suspense, and everything. I loved the mythology of it. I liked the characters of the gods and the heroes, especially the three protagonists. I also liked learning about the world of the books. It was an enjoyable and entertaining read.
Percy Jackson’s Gods (Rick Riordan): I love Greek mythology and knew all of these stories as I read books about and attended a classroom as a child. I liked Percy’s versions and I loved the writing, how it was from Percy’s point of view and his perception of the gods. It was hilarious. I love that the main Olympians started from the ladies to the men with Zeus in the last place. I liked the illustrations in the electronic version I read too, they were really good. If it were a younger person reading it, the illustrations would carefully capture its attention.
The Wicked Prince (Once Upon A Prince #4) (Celest Baxendell): I loved the story of Robin Hood since I was a little girl and saw Disney’s version of the story as a child. It was a retelling of itself with animals as the characters and I loved it so much that I have seen it, plenty of times since. I liked this once, even if it was very different with the Rodin as a woman and Prince John as her suitor, and not as bad as all the other versions. I liked the protagonists' characters and backstories, especially how Robin went from Roberta to Robin and started poaching. I liked that John was caring and did so much for her like the painting of her parents. I would likely recommend it to someone to give it a try.
The Queen of the Sea (The Wheel of the Crowns #5) (Brandi Elledge): I liked this one as much as I liked most books in this series. They are fantasy, and romance books with a lot of action and plot twists. They have enjoyable characters, action scenes, and many fantasy elements; this was the same in all these departments. I liked Malakian and Sasha and their friends to lovers’ story as it was different from the rest of the series. It still had the keys and the portals but had a different kind of lore that I greatly enjoyed.
The Doomsayer Queen (The Wheel of the Crowns #6) (Brandi Elledge): I loved the last book of this series! I loved the protagonists and Jo was always one of my favorite characters. I also liked that I saw all of my favorite couples in the last chapters of this book, especially as they came together to help Jo who had helped them in all the other books and gave them their love stories. I found pretty funny the fact that she helped everyone else to find their mate and, in the end, she did not recognize he own. I also liked the last vision of the two children, I love the couple that has a child, Tamara, the Zombie Queen, and the Death, Wes, and also another woman that Jo helped. It was a good ending to the series and worth reading.
Spellbound in the Stacks (K. Iwancio): I liked this paranormal romance about a witch, who is a bookstore owner, and if in three weeks she doesn’t find her true love, she will become a cat for the rest of her life. It was a really funny book and it had great characters especially Faeline and Hera, her mother was really good as I had a very strenuous relationship. I loved Aidan too, the firefighter with the nerdy side to him, who is the love interest and hottie you don’t expect from his first appearance in the books, which is very grumpy. It was worth a read for someone who wants a new romantic fantasy to read.
Love at First Sip (The Coffee Loft #1) (Amy Stephens): It was a short story with not much of a plot about a small-town coffee shop owner and her former high school sweetheart. It had a cat that was in a funny scene and funny characters as the employees of the coffee who I would like to know more about if the book wasn’t so short. It was a good story to read if you want a non-complicated one with a happy ending.
The Midnight Prince (Once Upon A Prince #5) (Angie Grigaliunas): I loved this book so much that I finished it in one day. I loved the characters and the magic elements of the story. I loved the Cinderella retelling of it as it had the magic of the fairy godmother in the friend of Allia, but I also liked the mystery and the plot twists of the story that helped me not want to stop. I loved the fae magic, especially as it gave of the world building and to the story. It was a very enjoyable read.
The Naughty Donkey (Agatha Christie): I liked this retelling of a bible story with the donkey that had a character and then helped Jesus Christ. It has meaning to help people to see religion from a different point of view. It is a point that people that you don’t get with a Christie story.

Chevrolet Corvette Rodine
Pininfarina can proudly boast of being one of the most important design houses in automotive history. In its more than 80 years of history, a multitude of models have come out of its studios for a large number of manufacturers, although models such as the Ferrari F40, the Maserati 5000GT, the Lancia Flaminia or more modern vehicles such as the Maserati GranTurismo or the Ferrari FF. The Italian firm also worked with Chevrolet to create the Corvette Rondine, a true collector's item that was created as a display prototype to be shown at the 1963 Paris Motor Show. The vehicle's designer was Tom Tjaarda. Who in his career designed more than 70 vehicles, not only for Pininfarina but also for other studios such as Ghia or Giugiaro. An important difference between the original Corvette and the Corvette Rondine is that the latter had a body made of steel instead of fiberglass. Under the hood we find a 327 ci (5.4-liter) V8-cylinder engine that delivers 360 hp, linked to a four-speed manual gearbox.

Let’s make one thing clear, we support Black women– period. Megan Thee Stallion has become the latest example of the mistreatment Black women often face when speaking up for themselves. Since July 2020, when reports first surfaced that Megan, born Megan Pete, was allegedly shot by singer/ rapper Tory Lanez, she has had to deal with the dual trauma of the initial shooting and the subsequent harassment by Lanez, his fans, powerful people in the music industry, and the overall effort to discredit her.
Gun violence is an issue that continues to disproportionately impact Black women. According to a 2022 study, “Black women are three times more likely to be fatally shot by an intimate partner compared to white women.” (Megan has denied having an intimate relationship with Lanez.) During a particularly fraught time in hip hop, when we’ve lost so many artists to gun violence, including the recent murder of rapper Takeoff, it’s difficult to witness the continued minimizing and victim blaming of Megan by her peers in the business.
xoNecole has compiled a timeline of the events that unfolded following Megan’s shooting, including members of the industry who have seemingly undermined her story.
Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez: A Timeline of Events
July 12, 2020
Reports surfaced that Megan had been shot by an unreported assailant while with Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, his bodyguard, and Megan’s friend at the time Kelsey Nicole when leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s house.

Page Six exclusively reported that Lanez had officially been named as a potential suspect in the shooting. “Tory fired the shots from within the vehicle while Megan was outside trying to leave,” a source told the outlet. “There is video and the police are investigating. This is a case of a man physically harming and abusing a woman.”
It was also reported around this time that Megan unfollowed the singer on Instagram.
July 22, 2020
Megan gets on Twitter to clap back at reality star Draya Michele who went on a podcast and suggested that Lanez and Megan “had some sort of Bobby and Whitney love that drove them down this type of road" and joked that “I want you to like me so much you shoot me in the foot too."
“Dumb bitch that shit ain’t fucking funny who tf jokes about getting shot by a nigga,” Megan tweeted.
Michele would later apologize saying that her attempt at a joke fell flat and that "I truly don’t glorify domestic violence... I was trying to say just love me deeply."
July 23, 2020
Podcaster Adam22 reports that sources told him that Megan and Lanez were in a sexual relationship and that there was a flirtation between Jenner and Lanez at the party. Their interaction reportedly caused Megan to become jealous and start “violating his ass” and “really shitting on him.”That same day, rapper Cam’ron received backlash on social media after posting a transphobic comment about Megan saying, "Tory Lanez saw that dick and started shootn..IDC what no one say."
July 28, 2020
Rapper 50 Cent issues an apology to Megan after posting a meme depicting the Grammy award-winner as the character Ricky from the film Boyz n the Hood as he’s being shot.
“👀Damn I didn’t think this shit was real,🤦♂️It sounded so crazy @theestallion i’m glad your [sic] feeling better and i hope you can accept my apology. I posted a meme that was floating around. I wouldn’t have done that if i knew you was really hurt sorry. 🤷🏽♂️," he wrote.

Megan posts a photo of her injured foot on Instagram in an attempt to quell rumors that she wasn’t shot.
August 21, 2020
Megan gets on IG live and confirms that Lanez allegedly shot her. “Since y’all hoes so worried ’bout it, yes, this nigga Tory shot me,” she said. “You shot me. And you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and shit. Stop lying. Why lie? I don’t understand. I tried to keep the situation off the internet, but you dragging it.
She continued, “You really fucking dragging it. Motherfuckers talking about I hit this nigga. I never hit you. Motherfuckers like, ‘Oh she mad ’cause he was trying to fuck with Kylie.’ No, I wasn’t. Like, you dry shot me. Like, everybody in the car – there’s only four motherfuckers in the car: me, you, my homegirl, and your security. I get out the car, I’m done arguing. I don’t wanna argue no more. I get out, I’m walking away. This nigga, from outside the back seat of the car, start shooting me. You shot me!”
She also addressed rumors that the injury to her foot was actually caused by broken glass. “I ain’t get cut by no glass, but let me tell you why they’re saying that: the people in the neighborhood –there’s a witness – when the police came because the neighbors called the police – this did not happen at Kylie’s house.” She continued, “This happened damn near back at the house I was staying at. I was just trying to get home. We were five minutes away from my spot. The police come and I’m scared.”
“All this shit going on with the police. The police are shooting motherfuckers for anything. The police was literally killing Black people for no motherfucking reason. Soon as the police tell us all ‘Get out the motherfucking car,' the police is really aggressive,” she explained. “You think I’m bout to tell the police that we – niggas, us Black people – got a gun in the car?! You want me to tell them that we got a gun in the car so they can shoot all of us up? Nigga, I’m scared.”
Megan performs on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest and she stops mid-performance to share a message about supporting Black women. "We need to protect our Black women and love our Black women, 'cause at the end of the day, we need our Black women,” she preached.

Lanez was officially charged with one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, concealed firearm in a vehicle.
October 13, 2020
Megan writes an op-ed for The New York Times titled “Why I Speak Up for Black Women.” The article states: “I was recently the victim of an act of violence by a man. After a party, I was shot twice as I walked away from him. We were not in a relationship. Truthfully, I was shocked that I ended up in that place.
My initial silence about what happened was out of fear for myself and my friends. Even as a victim, I have been met with skepticism and judgment. The way people have publicly questioned and debated whether I played a role in my own violent assault proves that my fears about discussing what happened were, unfortunately, warranted.”
October 20, 2020
Lanez gets on IG live to discuss the aftermath of the shooting and says that he still considers Megan to be a friend even if she doesn’t but that “I know what happened, and what you’re saying, what the alleged things and the alleged accusations of my name is, are not true. It’s falsified information. It’s false information.”
Megan responded on Twitter saying: “This Nigga genuinely crazy.”
November 18, 2020
Lanez pleads not guilty to both charges.
November 20, 2020
Megan’s debut album Good News is released where she addresses the shooting in the intro song “Shots Fired” with lines like “Imagine niggas lyin' 'bout shootin' a real bitch (huh?) Just to save face for rapper niggas you chill with.”

The “Savage” artist’s former friend Kelsey Nicole, who was one of the passengers in the car the night of the shooting, released a diss track to Megan titled “Bussin Back” where she rapped “Never been a jealous friend and the people really know it/If you would'vе kept it silent then I would'vе been told it/ See I really thought I knew you, thought that you would keep it G/ If you wanna talk gangsta, bitch, I'm really from the street.”
The former besties fell out following the shooting.

My initial silence about what happened was out of fear for myself and my friends. Even as a victim, I have been met with skepticism and judgment. Megan Thee Stallion's Tory Lanez Assault Trial, Explained ›

August 25, 2020
Houston legend Bun B comes out in support of his fellow hometown resident. “I know Tory, I know his manager. I know all of ‘em. Fuck all that, though. If the man on drugs, get him some goddamn rehab. If the man got mental health issues, get him some therapy,” he said.
“But you not just gon’ sit here and shoot this girl, and we not say nothin’. This shit not real. Nobody’s talking about it because it’s a Black woman… put your hands on Lady Gaga and see how quick they lock your ass up.”
September 9, 2020
TMZ reports that texts allegedly coming from Lanez show that the singer apologized to Megan while she was in the hospital. "I know u prolly never gone talk to me again, but I genuinely want u to know I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart,” read the texts. He also blamed his actions on being “too drunk.”
September 25, 2020
Lanez releases his album Daystar where he finally addresses the allegations that he shot Megan. In his song “Money Over Fallouts,” he raps lyrics like, “How the fuck you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons?” and “If you got shot from behind how can you identify me?”
September 29, 2020
Billboard reports that Lanez’s team posed as members of Megan’s team to plant stories that made Megan look less credible including fake text messages. Lanez’s team denies the claims.
Megan performs on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest and she stops mid-performance to share a message about supporting Black women. "We need to protect our Black women and love our Black women, 'cause at the end of the day, we need our Black women,” she preached.
October 8, 2020
Lanez was officially charged with one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, concealed firearm in a vehicle.

WHAT WAS THIS YOU MENTIONED ABOUT A BAYONETTA AU…LUMEN MARUKI…
Injecting this ask into my veins thank you for asking
LUMEN MOOKIE
He is..... not at all a good Lumen Sage. How he manages to join the clan? I have no idea. Probably because his angel is saving his ass all the time...
Speaking of which.
Azathoth or Adam can't have a pact with Maruki, so obviously I made Yaldabaoth his angel. Of course Yaldy is mildly (that's a huge understatement) irritated at Maruki's inability to fight without summoning angels, but he sticks around because 1) well he has to, they have a pact, therefore are bound together, and 2)The Lumen are on the decline and are at risk of being wiped out.
To add to "Maruki is a terrible Lumen Sage", he befriends an Infernal.... if anyone found out he'd be thrown into some sort of severe punishment. Yaldabaoth knows this, but since he wants the Lumen to prosper, he doesn't say anything, only scolding Maruki. He believes even losing just one will damage them greatly. Thankfully, Azathoth is not the smartest, so he doesn't usually cause any harm.
Usually.
As for Adam??? No idea yet. In the trailer for 3, there seems to be some sort of human/chaos creatures (so ones that are not angel nor demon- ones in between), so maybe he'll fit in there more? Either that or I could make him kind of like what Loki (Bayo 2) and Loptr are????? I'll figure it out. For now, he's around
I did throw around the idea of him being another Lumen?? So I'd use my humanoid design for that.. Not completely sure though
All the PTs in this AU are just regular humans (I want to keep the women=Umbra, men=Lumen in this, and given that most of the Personas would be better as Infernals, it's hard to make Joker, Ryuji, and Yusuke Sages). I need some Witches though so.. Maybe Wakaba?? Izanami works fantastically as an Umbra Witch, so I have at least one. I feel like I'm forgetting some of the lady characters, please feel free to inform me if I am <(_ _)>
Satanael is around too of course, he actually really works for this since he's a fallen angel. Still trying to figure out who he'll have a pact with, if anyone at all, or if he'll function more like Rodin (who, funnily enough, is also a fallen angel). If I go with the latter, he'll just be assisting the Witches.
Some other little things I might go with:
Sojiro is a retired Lumen
Akechi is also a Lumen Sage, Robin Hood is his angel, though he's constantly being stalked by Loki (P5 Loki not Bayo 2 Loki), and Infernal, who is more annoying than threatening
I did draw Lumen Maruki a while ago...
Annnnnd never finished it. I can do so much better now, and I'm thinking on giving him a slightly different outfit from the, what is assumed to be, the normal Lumen uniform. Balder's the only Sage we see though so who knows. Maybe I'll give Mookie extra feathers... I need to fix his weapon too of course, no way he can swing that around all the time
THANK YOU FOR ASKING ME ABOUT THIS I AM SO OBSESSED
#Ask#Bayo AU#P5R spoilers#Bayo makes my brain rot all I can think about is the demon ladies I'm in love <3#So of course I make an AU for it..#I would really like to get this to work! It's very fun..

Sorry if you already answered that question, but i was wondering how the first night coffee of Genji and Mercy went, and later on just became an habit for the both of them. Take care :)
Ooh! That’s a good prompt! You know I love me some pre-fall stuff!
...Come to think of it I never wrote Mercy reacting to Genji’s Blackwatch look...
-----
“You can’t approve of this,” Mercy’s knuckles were white with her grip on her tablet. She and Gabriel Reyes were standing in the observation room overlooking an interior training area as Genji slashed through several training bots with an alarming fury. There was a wildness to his actions, a fervor that Mercy assumed that could only come from spending weeks on end struggling with leg blades and crutches. In terms of creating an efficient cyborg body that matched all of Genji’s previous athletic qualifications, the Blackwatch cyberneticists had outdone themselves. But in terms of creating a body that would actually help Genji adjust mentally to his new reality of being a cyborg...
Mercy flinched as Genji beheaded a training bot, then sliced the still-in-the-air head in two with a kick.
“If both the cyberneticists and Genji are satisfied with the prosthetics, then it’s out of my hands,” said Reyes.
“It is not out of your hands because you’re in charge of Blackwatch,” said Mercy, “Those leg blades--who put those on him?”
“They’re pretty crazy, right?” said Gabriel, his eyes lighting up, “Now his axe kicks are like axe kicks. They’re really---” Gabriel read the furious disapproval contorting Mercy’s features and cleared his throat. “You don’t approve of them. Look, he’s already an assassin, so--”
“If an engineer loses his hand, would you say we should replace his fingers with screwdrivers?!” said Mercy, furiously.
“...Torbjörn replaced his arm with that molten core claw,” said Gabriel with a shrug.
“That’s--Torbjörn chose to--He---” Mercy took a furious inhale through her nostrils and huffed, “I don’t think this is best for Genji. If he sees his body as... as a tool, as a machine---”
“Interpol wants to see results with the Shimada clan and psych evals said he’s field ready,” said Gabriel.
“Blackwatch Psych Evals,” muttered Mercy.
“And Blackwatch understands special circumstances. Besides, with how much he keeps going on about taking down the Shimada clan... I don’t think holding him back is helping him.”
Mercy flinched again as Genji sliced another training bot clean down the middle. He stood in the wreckage of all the bots, his blade still drawn and his shoulders rising and falling with the smoldering tension of his breath.
She hit the intercom. “Genji,” she spoke gently and Genji’s head jerked up, ready for whatever came next. She cleared her throat. “Are you feeling any discomfort from this prosthesis?”
She heard Genji’s breath ragged over the other end and suppressed a shudder.
“No discomfort,” said Genji, “They work.”
Mercy’s eyes flicked over to Reyes and he made a little ‘See?’ gesture at the intercom.
She hit the intercom button again. “Let me know the second that changes,” she said, not breaking eye contact with Reyes.
“Understood,” was his only response.
-------
Mercy took the issue to Jack of course, tried to call up anyone in Overwatch’s medical research decision to back her up. She even got Liao on vid-comm who just ended up launching into a meandering half-to-herself lecture about transhumanism as it related to the robotics question of ‘Does a submarine swim?’ and ended up burning about an hour and a half without actually going anywhere. So at the end of the day Mercy was, once again, in Jack’s office and complaining while he, once again, was nodding and giving her the odd “I’ll look into it” while both of them knew it wouldn’t really go beyond a talk to Reyes. Jack trusted Reyes. He trusted Reyes’s judgment more than he would ever trust hers, and most of the time she didn’t take that personally, and even with the majority of Genji’s care now shifted out of her hands, she knew it wasn’t personal. This was no grand conspiracy to drain the energy of Angela Ziegler, but simply how Overwatch was.
And who was she to hold Genji back?
She sighed and returned to her lab, first going over correspondence with a handful of scientists over their findings with biotics, replicating some of the experiments described to her, sending her findings in, saying she would conduct more experiments more formally and et cetera but these were her results. The usual. Enough to get her mind off things. Enough to make her feel like there was something she could do. Hours passed.
The sound of the coffeemaker late that night filled Mercy with equal parts of calm, resignation, and regret. As she felt the vibration of the grinder against her palm and let its characteristic buzz drown out all other sounds of the lab before pouring the grounds into the filter, she came to terms with the fact that tomorrow morning was going to be a living hell for the sake of tonight’s productivity. She watched the pot slowly fill with that chocolate-smoke smelling liquid before stretching and massaging her temples.
Deep breath, she thought to herself, inhaling through her nose, letting the coffee-scented air fill her lungs to the peak, Now exh--
“Doctor Ziegler?” a voice spoke up next to her and the squawk of surprise that escaped her along with the hard flinch made the sweatsuit-clad figure suddenly standing next to her flinch back. “Sorry!” Genji said on reflex, his voice muffled into a metal faceplate, “I thought you heard me come in. I guess I’m a lot quieter with the new prosthetics...”
Mercy’s hand flew over her chest as she tried to catch her breath. “It’s--it’s fine,” she said, tucking her hair back.
“I meant to talk to you after the prosthetic test--” he started.
“Something’s wrong with them. I knew it,” said Mercy perking up and quickly grabbing his arm, “Where does it hurt? How intense is the pain? Are you--”
“There’s nothing wrong with them, Doctor Ziegler,” Genji’s voice was tired and she caught herself, releasing his arm.
“Sorry...” she said, folding her arms against herself.
“I just... it had been a while since we last talked and... I wanted to check in with you. See how you were doing. And the light in the lab was on so...” he itched at the point where his faceplate ended and the exposed skin of his neck started.
“...Oh,” said Mercy. She blinked. “You’re checking on me?”
“Well... yes. You sounded... tense... during the prosthetics test today,” said Genji, “I apologize if this is out of line, and I can leave if you’re busy--”
“No--I’m not--I mean, I am working but... company would be nice,” said Mercy. She gave a glance to the coffee pot, “I probably shouldn’t finish this on my own, anyway. Would you like some?”
“Sure,” said Genji with a shrug as she grabbed one of the spare mugs next to the coffeemaker.
“So Blackwatch is treating you all right?” said Mercy, pouring him a cup as he took off the lower half of his faceplate.
“So far, yes,” said Genji, taking the mug from her and sipping the coffee, “Just--one question.”
“Mm?” Mercy was looking at him as she sipped her own coffee.
“Is McCree... always like that?” said Genji.
Mercy snorted, nearly choked on her coffee, swallowed hard and let out a sputtering laugh. “He’s always like that,” she said, snickering.
Genji’s shoulders slumped. “Kuso...” he cursed under his breath.
“It’s an acquired taste, but you do acquire it,” said Mercy, grinning.
Genji just huffed in response.
“What do you think of Reyes?” said Mercy, tilting her head.
Genji thought for a few moments, “He’s... interesting. At this point I’m used to people not... not knowing how to look at me, and I can’t really blame them, because at this point, I don’t know how to look at me. But Reyes he’s... practical. Inspiring, even. It’s just sort of like ‘You’re here. Let’s get to work.’ It’s kind of refreshing, honestly.”
“Mm...” Mercy didn’t really know how to respond to that so she just glanced off while sipping her coffee.
“...Doctor Ziegler?”
“Yes?”
“When I said you sounded a bit tense at the prosthetic test, today...” Genji trailed off, “What was bothering you?”
“Oh...” Mercy bit the inside of her lip, “Well...I....” she straightened up, “I was concerned about those loose wires!”
Genji’s hood was up but he felt at the back of his head.
“And....and the leg blades...” Mercy tucked her hair back, “I mean, they’re your legs! You shouldn’t treat them like weapons!”
Genji shrugged, “I was using them like weapons before,” he said, sipping his coffee.
Mercy’s mouth drew to a thin line. “Yes but that’s---You shouldn’t--”
Genji was looking at her with genuine concern and Mercy’s stomach sank. This was his body--it was far from something he could easily change, and even then, if they could change it, how in control of the process was he?
“I... I’m probably overreacting. And I’m probably more used to treating civilians,” she said with a hand wave, “I mean, I only really saw the prosthetics at a distance and in a few health dispatches the Blackwatch cybernetics sent me...”
“You haven’t gotten a good look yet?” said Genji.
“Blackwatch is secretive,” said Mercy with a shrug but she quickly reddened as Genji unzipped the front of the hoodie and shrugged it off, setting it on the counter behind him. Scarred skin strained against cold metal, rippling muscles alongside synthetic frames and bits of armor. Tubes flowing into his skin. Fury and hatred flowing into the gaps left by his injuries. She hated herself that the first words that came to mind were, What’s black and white and red all over? In truth he looked... good. Really good. But good the way a statue of Prometheus chained to a rock looks good. Good the way a Saint Sebastian painting looks good. Good the way a crucifix or one of Rodin’s more contorted works looked good. Good in a way that made that furious, traumatized part of her brain cry out ‘For the love of god, help him.’
“Is there something wrong with them?” said Genji, trying to read her face.
Mercy was biting her knuckle, unsure of how to respond. “Does it hurt?” the words came out of her.
“No,” Genji said on reflex, but those big gray-blue eyes were piercing into him and he huffed and sipped his coffee, “I mean, it itches. And there’s the phantom limb pain, but that’s there whether the prosthetics are there or not. Doctor Ziegler, I need these. And maybe they’ll get better in the future, but for now I’m fine with putting up with these,” he picked up his hoodie from the counter and pushed an arm through the sleeve, “So long as it means I’m not cooped up here in Zurich anymore.”
“I know... and... and you’re right. You’re right to want that. But please... just remember that the body and the self have a very complicated relationship,” said Mercy, glancing off.
“And justice is bigger than both,” said Genji, zipping up his hoodie, “I’ll worry about what I am once the Shimada clan can’t hurt people like it hurt me.”
“I know,” said Mercy glancing down, “But... you know your worth as a person isn’t based in taking them down, right? You know that?”
Genji stared at her for a few seconds. “I... believe life has a worth. That life has to have some worth...but to be fair, Doctor Ziegler, you haven’t lived your life as an assassin for a powerful crime family. When someone is searching for redemption, it’s not up to someone else to say, ‘You’re good. You don’t have to try anymore.’” He furrowed those thick brows beneath his steel headband, “There are things I must do, and I do think with Blackwatch and my goals overlapped, that I can do them. The more you focus on feeling better rather than fixing the root problem.... the harder the fight to feel better becomes, doesn’t it?”
Mercy just sipped her coffee sullenly. “I trust your judgment,” she said at last, “But... just.... promise me you’ll come to me? If things start going wrong? If things start hurting more than they should?”
Genji huffed. “I promise,” he said, his smile tugging at his scars.
“Thank you,” said Mercy, before quickly adding, “I’m not paranoid.”
“I know.”
“I’m not.”
“What is the term?” said Genji, “Canary in the coal mine?”
“I’m the canary in the coal mine?” Mercy repeated flatly.
“You worry a lot--you’re a good person to look to when looking for something to worry about.”
Mercy furrowed her brows at him.
“But I mean, you never worry about anything not worth worrying about!” he smiled, “But it’s a big world--there’s always something to worry about.”
“So, should we should rename ‘Medical R&D’ to the ‘Overwatch Worry Division?” said Mercy arching an eyebrow.
“No, it’s important you stay scary,” said Genji.
“Oh I’m scary now?” said Mercy with a slight chuckle.
“In the best way possible,” he sipped the last bit of his coffee. “I... I should probably let you get back to work.”
“You can hang around if you don’t mind me sequencing silicon-based RNA and cytochromic reactions,” said Mercy.
“...I have no idea what that means,” said Genji with a slight chuckle.
Mercy nodded with her head over to her monitor. “Would you like to find out? I warn you, it might be scary.”
Genji chuckled and refilled his coffee cup. “The best kind of scary, I’m sure.”

The agents managed to get Liane out of Rodin's hiding place. Rodin's body was lying on the floor, he was taking last breaths
Rodin- no... I can't die here... if I die... you won't be able to close the timelines...
???- it is not necessary
the agents saw three hooded people, one of them lowered the hood, revealing Kurt Wylde (remembering again, that I changed the name David to Kurt), Liane stood still and surprised, along with the agents
Liane-Kurt? Is it really you?
Liane walked slowly to Kurt and hugged him
Lian- but how? I thought no how I saved you
Kurt- the Sage of the present no, but the Sage of the future yes
The person on Kurt's right side lowered the hood, revealing the Yoru of the future, he's a little different, and the person on Kurt's left side lowered the hood, revealing the future Liane, she took off her cloak, and everyone saw her. carrying Filia's body, she was sleeping
Liane (present)- Filia
Liane (future)- shh shh she's fine
The young agents were quite confused, but the others saw it as quite normal. It seemed very strange to Killjoy that Brimstone and Viper nodded as if they understood everything;
"What!? You're telling me now that you understand everything spoken!? That's nonsense!"

{ CALUM HOOD . CIS MALE . 24 . HE/HIM } did you see that { AIDEN CALLOWAY } just pulled up in hidden hills with { SAGE MOORE } sitting next to them in the passengers seat - isn’t that cute ! you know, for a { MUSICIAN }, i’ve heard they’re really { HEDONISTIC }, but that they make up for it by being so { LOYAL }. i see them all the time on snapchat && yesterday in US WEEKLY i read that they { HAVE } a baby - can you believe that ?!
trigger warnings: cheating, homophobia (alludes to it)
stats // name: aiden mikaere calloway age: 24 gender: cis male sexuality: pansexual. panromantic career: bassist, vocalist, and songwriter in the band 5 seconds of summer children: luna rose, starrlyn galaxy, and rodin blue
bio //
aiden grew up in a fairly conservative household. some of his earliest memories were going to church with his family every sunday and wednesday for bible school. his parents morals and world view were instilled in him from a very young age and he went along with what they said. he believed what they believed. if they thought something was wrong, he believed it was wrong.
he was a shy kid. he kept to himself for the most part, but was always kind to everyone. he had the ability to make friends with anyone. he had such a warm and open heart from an early age. he had this ability to make anyone feel comfortable around him.
as he got older, aiden started to form his own opinions and ideas of the world. he was exposed to beliefs and ideas that differed his parents and what he was taught and it was eye opening. this obviously caused a rift between him and his family, mainly his father.
aiden had sort of always had crushes on all types of people. he always found himself like a person for who they were and not necessarily because of their gender. when he found out there was an actual term for this, he felt like an enormous weight had been lifted from his chest. he didn’t come out for a while though. he wanted to keep his identity to himself for a while longer.
around this time is when he and his best friends formed a band. they got more and more popular on youtube and that somehow got the attention of the biggest boyband on the planet. the day he told his parents he was dropping out of school to move to the uk to go on tour with one direction was also the day he told them he was pansexual. he figured he might as well rip the band aid off and lay it all on them at the same time. that went as well as anyone could imagine. aiden thinks back on this night as one of the worst of his life.
the next few years went by in a blur. he spent a lot of it drunk or high or both. he was really only happy on the surface, but tour life was rough on everyone. the one person who kept him sane was actually his first ever boyfriend. he was on their touring team and was one of the guitar techs. it started out as casual flirting which turned into dates and i love you’s.
aiden couldn’t get his father’s voice out of his head, though. he couldn’t let himself be happy even though he was in love. even though he knew what his father thought was wrong. it drove a definite wedge in the relationship. after a year and a half of dating, he found out that his boyfriend had been cheating on him for three month. aiden had never experienced heartbreak like that before. it really felt like someone had ripped his heart from his chest and stomped on it.
it took him so long to be okay again, or at least okay enough. he was never really the same after that. he slept around and never let anyone in. he and sage were sort of a thing, but he never let his walls down. he never let her see who he truly was. he will never regret any time he spent with sage because he loves his girls more than anything. he loves sage but he was never in love with her. the situation with bird was pretty similar, she was someone he hooked up with and had a baby with. aiden loves his children more than words could describe.
he still struggles with accepting himself. he doesn’t think he deserves love at all. he doesn’t think he’s capable of letting anyone in or see his true self. he hates himself, really, and he masks it with arrogance and being a dick to the world. he’s really just a sad boy who wants to feel accepted and loved but he would never admit that

Do you have any recommendations of female artists (sculptors and painters)? (I went to a museum and now im salty lmao)
Off the top of my mind, I might remember someone else some time soon:
Sonia Delaunay. My girl LIVED and BREATHED art. She was the type to literally, and I mean wholly, surround herself with art to the point of living inside art. She sewed, made costumes for the theater, she made puppets, dolls, quilts, even furniture. She was an incredible, outstanding painter. She is at the centre of Orphism more so than Robert, her husband, who was more of a cubism guy. Now, from what I gather, a lot of what people say about Sonia in other countries is coupled with her husband, as if you can't talk about her without mentioning him. To a degree, that's correct because the two had a really secure partnership. They were both creators, and they pushed each other. It was incredibly inspiring tbh. But Sonia has her own merit, and in Portugal she is actually way more relevant than Robert bc of the influence she had on our modernist circle.
Lee Krasner. If only people sort of forgot she was Pollock's wife. Her method of creating is fascinating to me cause this girl just destroyed her past work completely, but instead of throwing it in the trash, she reused it to create new works. Art historians in the post modernist era weren't too kind to her, but she's being avenged. She's methodical and clearly puts so much thought into her composition her creative process is fascinating.
Julia Margaret Cameron. This woman is one of my favourite artists in the world. Cameron began taking photographs at 42 years old after she moved to the isle of Wight in England. She was gifted a camera by her daughter who just wanted her mother to be a bit less bored, and Cameron went on to create over 3000 astonishing photographs that are at the core of the pictorialist movement. She was also INCREDIBLY well acquainted of her society. I mean, literally every famous victorian person you can think of, she met them. The majority of famous photographs you can think of? She took them. She was very honest about her work too. Its really endearing because Cameron was so concerned about her own honesty in capturing beauty she didn't give a fuck about the actual mechanics, which resulted in a lot of photographers at the time labelling her "an amateur". She also refused to photograph high society folk that weren't her friends, and mostly photographed her maids. It must be said that Alfred Lord Tennyson absolutely DESPISED every single illustration made for his Idylls of the King, so much artists knew they were in for hell if they were commissioned the book's illustrations. Cameron was the only person Tennyson personally asked to illustrated, and he absolutely adored her work.
Hannah Hoch. I love Dada so it couldn't miss. Hannah Hoch was married to uhhhhh... Huesekbeck I think? I keep forgetting. Either way, she was part of the Berlin Dada group, and they gave her hell for being a woman. Yes, it's nothing short of that: they didn't want her to belong because she was a woman. Especially her husband, who she supported throughout his life and then he died and she was like "lmao maybe you should have made good art, my bitch". Hannah Hoch mostly makes collages, and it's incredible. Its a very poignant work about being a woman in post-Weimar Germany and the societal issues Germany faced after World War I.
Claude Cahun. There's a post I made about her going around so I wont prolong myself but essentially, though she used female pronouns throughout her life, she identified herself as androgynous and created an INCREDIBLE set of photographs. She was a surrealist who became the inspiration for Davie Bowie and Andre Breton lauded this woman breathless. She was also arrested for taking part in the resistance against the Nazis and lived her whole life with another woman who was her partner. Her work focuses tremendously on issues of gender and our perception of our own bodies.
Camille Claudel. Infamously, she is known as Rodin's lover. Camille's story is a very tragic one. She was a tremendously talented sculptor who accumulated patrons throughout her life, and though she had an a rough affair with Rodin (and he was a bit of a dick), he did praise her work and tried very hard to preserve her artwork. The issue was Camille's family, who scorned her and shamed her for being an artist and her life choices, and destroyed a lot of her art after sticking her in a mental institution where she died at like, 70. But Camille's work is... Well, it's beautiful. Its the kind of work you can see that conflict between being a woman in her society while desperate to liberate herself. Though she incorporates Rodin's language, she has her own mark, her own hand, and her own language.
Janet Sobel. She is actually the first person to coin, use and employ the technique of dripping. You know, the one Pollock gets all the praise for? Essentially, Janet Sobel was a grandmother by the time she picked up a paintbrush. She was also a ukranian emigrant with little to no english, and she engaged in art at her son's insistence. When her son Sol Sobel brought his mom's artwork to the major New York circles (she lived in New Jersey), she immediately caught the eye of Peggy Guggenheim, who put together a collective exhibition about female abstract expressionist painters. That exhibition was in 1946. Pollock was there, he msde a remark wbout Sobel's work, and in 1947 you have the first Pollock dripping painting. Do with that information what you will (and also, check for photos of how Sobel painted, it's so adorable and it just explains SO MUCH MORE THE CONCEPT OF ACTION PAINTING THAN POLLOCK). Eventualyl, Sobel stopped painting and disappeared, and there are several factors as to why we forgot her: Pollock was the CIA's bad boy, so yeah; she spoke little english (she befriended Marc Chagall and Mark Rothko bc they both spoke russian and they claimed that being with Sobel felt like being back home) and she developed an allergy to oil painting.
Maria Helena Vieira da Silva. We're moving to the french circle here, and yes she is portuguese but she belongs to the french post modernist circle. She's an abstract painter who draws a lot from cityscapes, and I think it's worth taking a look at her work.
Niki de Saint Phalle. Now Niki is incredible. She's mostly known for her Nanas, which are immense outdoors sculptures of women with thick bodies, defying the notion of slenderness imposed by fashion magazines that prevailed in the 50s. She also engages with her own trauma of sexual abuse and explores the notion of sexuality a lot, as well as women's bodies outside the realm of sexuality. At a given point, she collaborated with Jean Tingely a lot so she made a series of kinetic sculptures too.
Martha Rosler. I know you said painting and sculpture and I've already talked about collage lmao but Martha Rosler belongs to the first wave of feminist art and those mostly concern video art, though Rosler is very well known for her collages Bringing the War Home in which she literally brings the Vietnam war home. It's worth looking at her work.
Ana Mendieta. Another tragic story. Ana Mendieta was incredibly worried about the notion of the female body as perceived outside the realm of something sexual and nature. She works a lot with perishable material, works of art that are organic, that is, that will disappear with time. One of her most well known methods is leaving an imprint of her own body on natural surfaces, like a beach, or a field of grass, and then photographing it. Ironically, that was exactly how she died: she fell off I believe it was a 10th floor and onto the hood if a car. There is still speculation about it and everything points towards there having been a fight between her and her partner at the time, Carl Andre, who neighbours believe pushed her out the window. Carl Andre never saw justice and Ana Mendieta died at like 25 years old and at the prime of her career.
Kara Walker. She's a pretty young artist who's creating artworks as we speak and she confronts the notion of blackness with US history so blatantly it becomes monumental. She also makes large scale works to defy this message. If you ask me, she's one of the best artists living today.
Hilma af Klimt. She was a Swedish abstractionist and surrealist who was really focused on the occult, and made monumental paintings that engaged with things like the human psyche.
Lizzie Siddal. Now, Lizzie is better known as the Pre-Raphaelite muse, immortalised in Millais' famous Ophelia, but she was an artist of her own. And not just any artist. John Ruskin tutored her and praised her. In fact, he considered her biggest flaw being her love affair with Rossetti lmao she is very naive and honest about her work, and I would also recommend taking a look at her poetry.
Eleonor Fortescue-Brickdale. I know very little about her, but she was a post pre-raphaelite illustrator who, and this is just me, follows the trend of Julia Margaret Cameron. Her paintings are beautiful and seriously, look at both their work and try to see the similarities hah
Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Mitchell, two abstract expressionists who developed their own mode of painting and who border the Colour Field Painting (think Rothko).
Tamara de Lempicka. She's the glamour gal. She makes paintings about the glamorous life of high society and is very interesting because she depicts female nudes in a very intimate way. If I am not mistaken, Tamara de Lempicka had relationships with women, so that tells you a lot. She's very cubist in technique, more so than style.
Faith Ringgold. Oh my God, Faith Ringgold is fantastic. She is a black american woman who paints about the experience of being a black woman, but not just paint. She's best known for her Tar Beaches series, which as quilts she stitches while telling the story of a little girl who dreams about a world while spending time on her tar beach, which is the rooftops of the buildings in Harlem. Please do check her work, she is fantastic.
I'll leave well known names out because they are easy to search like Frida Kahlo, Artemisa Gentilleschi, Josefa d'Obidos, Sofonisba Anguissola (these three are located in the late renaissance period, so there's a lot of portraits, religious themes and still life), Mary Cassat, Berthe Morisot (both impressionists who focus on private female themes), Rosa Bonheur (naturalist who makes landscapes mostly), Evelyn de Morgan (post pre-raphaelite). Also check Zinaida Serebriakova, Georgia O'Keeffe, Lavinia Fontana, Louise Bourgeois, Angelika Kauffmann, Elisabetta Sirani, Romaine Brooks, Sophie Tauber-Arp, Varvara Stepanova, Paula Rego, Bridget Riley, Leonora Carrington, Vigée le Brun, Yayoi Kusama, Francesca Woodman. Etc. These are like .. top of my head with a quick google search to make sure I wrote the names right haha

Rok 2019: rast 40%, nové trhy a obchody, lepšie procesy. Mesiac v USA a nová motorka :)
S obrovským úsilím Lenky, s pomocou Pavla a Michala sme to úspešne zvládli včas a v stanovenom rozpočte.
Expanzia do Bukurešti
Dlho sme hľadali vhodný priestor a nakoniec sme zvolili lokalitu v širšom centre mesta, v obklopení skvelých kaviarni a spotov pre mladých ľudí. Prvý dvojposchodový obchod so samostatnou galériou sme otvorili v novembri hneď s obrovským záujmom. Influenceri, ktorí nás poctili svojou návštevou na otváračke, majú spolu viac než 6,5 milióna followerov.
“Footshop is a place where streetwear and creativity push one another’s boundaries.”

Okrem expanzie s kamennými obchodmi sme spustili e-commerce v nových krajinách: Ukrajina, Rakúsko, Chorvátsko. To by nebolo nikdy možné bez Petra, Honzu, Janyho a ich skvelých tímov.
Rukou nám prejdú tisíce tenisiek a oblečenia.
Footshop x KangaROOS Ultimate 3 Flip
Life is Porno xxx Footshop
Soulland x Footshop - Tolerance / Relevance
Footshop - vlastná kolekcia pre každé mesto, kde máme obchod
Ľudia
Všetko je o ľuďoch. Súkromný život aj práca. Minulý rok mi do nich vstúpilo niekoľko skvelých ľudí: Lukáš (predtým Nike, Česká sporiteľna), Pavel (predtým adidas), Olga (predtým The Royal Ballet School), Lucka (predtým Coca-Cola, Mars), Speedy (predtým OLX) a ďalší.
Článok na Forbes o našej kampani Foot in the hood
Nesmierne si vážim tých, ktorí už roky denne prichádzaju do práce so snahou pomôcť každému zákazníkovi s v obchodoch alebo v zákazníckej podpore, so snahou odoslať čo najviac objednávok, opraviť ešte ďalšiu chybičku webu apod.
Pridali sme mnoho nových značiek, o ktoré sme dlho bojovali, zaviedli kvalitný datový reporting, významne zlepšili reporting, marketingové plánovanie, procesy a dokončili väčšíe či menšie projekty. Vo výsledku nám to úsilie prinieslo znovu veľký rast na viac než 770 miliónov czk tržieb a medziročný rast cca 40% v kladných číslach. Rýchly a kontinuálny rast nás zaradil do prestížneho rebríčka Deloitte Technology Fast 50 CE, teda medzi jednu z 50 najrýchlejšie rastúcich technologických firiem.
Mesiac mimo kanclu
Pracovali sme denne a mítingovali v noci. Bola to skvelá skúsenosť a veľmi sme si to užili. Nikdy by to nebolo možné bez úžasnej podpory mojich kolegov.
A na čo som prišiel? Že môžeme byť kdekoľvek a všade to bude rovnaké, pretože sme to stále my.
PF 2020!
(Do nového roka bez strojčeka na zuboch. Malý krok pre ľudstvo, veľká radosť pre mňa. Fotka pár minút po tom čo mi ho dali dolu)

Today. Today would be it. Today would be the day he sprung himself from this hellscape.
Those exact words were running on repeat in the Viper King’s mind as he watched, coiled up in his test tube. He eyed the humans, in their white coats, that ambled around and checked monitors. Shazara-Ta didn’t know how long he had been captive in this facility, subject to tests and procedures that warped his very form. He didn’t know how long it had been since he had been taken from his home planet, deposed as the rightful king and kidnapped by the Collective. He didn’t know how long it had been since he had fought a futile war with the invaders from beyond the stars.
He did, however, know how much longer he would wait until he sprung himself... and his fellow test subjects.
His eyes slid over to the containment chamber across the room. There, the Archon King hovered, giving an eyeless glare to the scientists that paid him no mind. Shazara-Ta didn’t even know his fellow ruler’s name—but as it turns out, they both knew ADVENT, and that was enough to make plans in broad view. It seemed none of the personnel their captor had amassed knew their language, and that allowed them to formulate an escape. They just had to wait; there was one person in particular that had to arrive for her daily checkups in order for this to happen.
They didn’t have to wait long. Shazara-Ta’s eyes flitted to the door at the far end of the room as it opened, and in stepped the despicable slag that watched over them like a jailor to inmates—Vahlen. Shazara-Ta had heard her name enough times beyond the glass of his tube to know it’s what they called her. For the abuse he suffered, for the abuse she made the others suffer, she would die slowly and painfully.
Discreetly, he looked over to the Archon King. His own eyes seemed to be locked on Vahlen as well... but the signal came through as clear as the day. He flared the props on his wings in a specific pattern, indicating he was ready. In response, Shazara-Ta rapidly vibrated his hood—a symbol of aggression with the pattern he chose, but here? It was a sign of rebellion.
Clutching his chest, the Archon King’s thrusters began to flicker out, sending him bumping into the walls of his cell. If this had been any other species feigning death, he knew it wouldn’t work—the scientists had visuals on their vitals on their screens. But something Shazara-Ta had been informed about Archons is that they could take control of the machinery in their body down to an impressive level. The Archon King was shutting down vital systems to serve as a distraction.
It worked—the scientists began hurriedly rushing over to his station, pressing buttons and uttering words he couldn’t understand. Vahlen herself ran over, providing her own commentary. The Archon King crashed at the bottom of his cell, unmoving, and this sent the humans into a further panic.
If Shazara-Ta wanted to do this, he had to work fast. His fellow king couldn’t keep those systems shut off forever without killing himself. With that urgency in mind, and with the taste of freedom so close, Shazara-Ta rose from his despondent coil on the bottom of his cell. Using his natural mobility and the scales on his underside, he rocketed up the glass of his cell and launched off of it in the minimal space he had, careening his tail forward and putting massive force into striking the glass.
The glass shuddered violently, and he could see a head or two turn towards him. He had to keep trying. Scrambling up again, this strike created webs of fractures against the glass where he hit it. Another strike sent them shooting further out, and he could feel the glass starting to buckle.
One more strike, and his prison shattered in an explosion of shards.
That was enough to send some of the humans screaming out of the room, sure of their fate now that one of their test subjects had escaped. Not wasting his moment long, he felt his hood vibrate in anger and adrenaline, venom rising up his throat. He would sicken them and make them feel just a tenth of the agony he had. Squeezing his chest, he spat it out behind them, intent on trapping them against the cloud.
What happened, however, reminded him of the detestable things Vahlen had done to him. Instead of a cloud of poison, once the liquid hit the ground, it formed a large chunk of ice. Some of the humans that had been too close or already running for the door found themselves trapped within it regardless. As much as Shazara-Ta wanted to mourn for what had happened for him, there was far larger prey to take down. Vahlen herself was backing away in a panic, spotting the one area the ice didn’t cover and making a break for it. Shazara-Ta found himself starting to course after her—but a thought stopped him up. What if the humans had thrown some sort of killswitch in the Archon King’s tube? Vengeance was one thing... but the Viper King had grown very attached to his fellow test subjects. Leaving him to die so he could get his revenge wasn’t something he could abide by.
Turning around, he could see the Archon King’s thrusters activate again, propping himself up on the glass as he sluggishly got up, no doubt groggy from what he had just performed. Shazara-Ta couldn’t claim to know what the buttons on the console meant, and knew that mindless mashing could be the king’s further doom. He could easily coil around the glass and shatter it... but without a cushion, he’d undoubtedly get a few glass shards in his tail for his troubles. Without a cushion. He hadn’t spent his whole allotment of freezing venom on his previous expulsion. He could use a layer of ice to protect himself.
Making his way up to the other tube, he brought up his venom again, applying it evenly around the lower middle section of the tube. Once he had a good enough layer going, he turned to the Archon King. “Get down!” He barked in ADVENT. “I’m getting you out of here.”
Nodding, the Archon King dropped to the floor once more. Sliding up the tube, Shazara-Ta coiled himself around the layer of ice he had created. The tail muscles in Vipers were to be feared—as he squeezed the tube, cracks rapidly formed, and he could already feel the material bending. Just a second more and the Archon King was freed in a shower of sparkling glass, the ice acting as an effective protection.
Landing right next to the king, Shazara-Ta righted himself, offering a hand to his fellow ruler. The Archon took it, jets activating and propelling him into a stable hover. The two shared a quiet moment before the Archon King’s head jerked back towards the door. “Vahlen. Where is she?”
The only humans that remained were the ones trapped in the ice, and Shazara-Ta had half a mind to go over and kill them right now. Vahlen wasn’t among them—presumably having escaped as Shazara-Ta freed the Archon King. No such love lost for the trapped scientists, it seemed. Shazara-Ta clenched his fists. “Escaped. I wouldn’t leave you behind to kill her if it meant you dying from a failsafe.”
The Archon King looked... surprised, to hear that. Maybe slightly touched. “That... is noble of you, Viper.”
“It’s only fair. Without your distraction, I wouldn’t have escaped.” Speaking of escape, his head careened around. “Best we get the others out. I don’t think the Berserker Queen wants to spend another moment in there.”
“Right.” But before Shazara-Ta could make his way to the Berserker Queen’s area, the Archon King grabbed his arm. “... Rodin. My name is Rodin.”
Looking back, Shazara-Ta paused for a moment. He now had a name to put to the Archon King. Wanting to return the favor, he nodded. “My name is Shazara-Ta. Let’s get the others out, Rodin.”
Not wasting a moment more the two of them made a course for one of the other doors in the room, leaving the humans behind. A corridor or so later and they ended up in a large room. There were monitors on the wall, hooked up to a camera feed that showed the Berserker Queen, curled up in her cell. Half of the room was taken up by her containment, with no windows to speak of in favor of maximum security.
No windows meant nothing either of them could break to free her. As Rodin flew over to the console, trying to make sense of any of it, Shazara-Ta scanned the room. Surely there had to be some sort of emergency switch he could flip, or perhaps... his eyes locked on a bit of white coat poking out from a piece of machinery. Slowly, he stalked up, rising up and above the machine. Sure enough, there was a human behind there, hiding and shaking terribly. Feeling no empathy for the trapped human’s plight, Shazara-Ta swooped down and plucked the human screaming from its hiding place, dragging it over to the console.
Rodin stepped aside as Shazara-Ta forced the human against the console, making sure he had its attention before pointing to the door. Hopefully that was a clear enough indication. It seemed like it was, as with shaking hands, it entered in a sequence that Shazara-Ta paid close attention to. Klaxons blaring, the door to the Berserker Queen’s cell slowly started to open.
Having seen to it that the human did its job, Shazara-Ta threw it in the direction of the door. It took the hint, scrambling up and out. Rodin started after it, but Shazara-Ta stopped him. “It did its job. I’ll allow it some gratitude by letting it escape.”
“And the door to the Gourgeamus Queen?”
“I watched the sequence the human put in. It should work for the other cell.”
Their conversation was summarily interrupted by a terrifying crash against the opening door of the cell. The Berserker Queen was just beyond, trying to force the door open. Shazara-Ta rushed over, making sure he was in sight. “Berserker Queen! Can you understand us?”
The sight of one of her fellow Rulers, free, fully stopped up the Berserker Queen. Head swiveling from him to Rodin, she looked back to Shazara-Ta, nodding. Good. Hopefully the Gourgeamus Queen also spoke ADVENT. “We’re getting everyone out of here. The door will open on its own.”
The Berserker Queen’s head bobbed again, but even still, with an impressive display of strength, she forced the door fully into its frame, stumbling out. The machinery on her back was plainly visible, and while the pumps were inactive now... Shazara-Ta turned to Rodin. “Get her out in the open and start severing what you can of that accursed machine. Something tells me it’s not any good for her.”
Turning to them, the Berserker Queen growled and grunted in what was assuredly a language... but not one either of them could speak. If she knew ADVENT, why was she speaking her own language? Then again... the ADVENT language kind of required a tongue and lips, neither of which she seemed to have. She could understand it, but not speak it, went Shazara-Ta’s guess. Still, he shook his head. “We... can’t understand your language, Berserker Queen.”
With an impatient growl, she pointed to Rodin. Then she pointed to her back and mimed a yanking motion. Pointing to Shazara-Ta, she then pointed to the door, miming the act of opening a door. Understanding, Shazara-Ta moved for the exit. “Just my thinking. I’ll spring the Gourgeamus Queen. Get those tubes out of her, Rodin.”
“Understood. Good luck, Shazara-Ta.” After hearing Rodin’s well-wishes, Shazara-Ta hastily made his way out of the Berserker Queen’s containment, through the joint containment, and into the final room. It was much like the other queen’s room, with half of it being taken up by the cell itself. This time, there was a window into the chamber, allowing him to get a better look at the fourth Ruler.
She was impressively tall, standing at the Berserker Queen’s hunched height. Her lower body reminded Shazara-Ta of some of the four-legged reptiles from his planet, while her upper body was vaguely humanoid. A veritable bouquet of flowers adorned her head, while leaves and vines trailed down from it. Sharp teeth and four slitted, glowing-gold eyes accented her face, and she was even more built than Rodin. Her skin was a verdant green and peppered by leaves and hanging vines, with four fin-like leaves extending a ways away from her back. Bulging spores dotted and lined her more reptilian back, and her tail was capped off by what looked like a trapping plant. Throughout her form, there were highlights of glowing purple, almost fluorescent in nature.
Seeing Shazara-Ta free, she rushed to the glass window of her cell, pressing her hands against it. He could see her speak—but the glass was too thick to allow any communication. Shaking his head, he slid over to the console, inputting the sequence of buttons he’d seen the scientist do. Sure enough, the door to her cell started to open, and he rushed to the crack in it. “Gourgeamus Queen. We’re all free.”
She was quick to join him at the door, peering out. “—please tell me Vahlen’s dead.”
He sighed. “I let her escape so I could free Rodin.” If they had any escape devices in this facility, she was likely long gone. “I’m sorry.”
She shook her head. “Don’t be. Better to make sure that everyone gets out than have your revenge.” Looking back over her body, her shoulders slumped. “Look at what she’s done to me. I should’ve never adapted spores like this—and what does she think I’ll do with this dysfunctional tail? It will take me ages to adapt this all out...”
Feeling a stab of jealousy, he leaned against the doorway. “—forgive me for being envious, but at least you can adapt it all out. I’m stuck with this icy venom—and who knows what she’s done to me otherwise.”
Looking to him and frowning, she nodded. “Yes, I should... consider myself lucky. Who knows what she’s done to the others.”
The distinctive roar of a Berserker echoed through the facility. Shazara-Ta looked to the door. “About that. Rodin’s trying to get a machine off of her back the we don’t even know what it does. That didn’t sound good.”
“Certainly didn’t.” With the door open wide enough for her to escape, the Gourgeamus Queen did, galloping towards the door. “Come on!”
Not wasting another moment, he followed after her. The scene in the main area was one of destruction—the ice block he’d made was destroyed, as if something powered through it at high speed. Humans were tossed about, a few definitely worse for wear from the experience. No skin off of Shazara-Ta’s back—they knew what they were doing to the Rulers. The Gourgeamus Queen and Shazara-Ta ran further, into what could be called the lobby of the lab.
There, the Berserker Queen was in the middle of the room, clutching her head and giving another pained roar. There were some tubes missing from her back—but one remained, and Shazara-Ta could see a green fluid coursing through it as the pumps on her back were fully operational. Rodin was off to the side, trying to approach the Berserker Queen but kept at bay by her blind swipes.
Shazara-Ta tried approaching as well, but flinched back as she swung around again. It was the other queen who calmly approached, and he could see the flowers and vines on her head start to move. “My Queen. Look at me, please.”
The Berserker Queen whipped around, panting, an orange mist puffing out with each breath. She gave an uneasy grumble, clutching her head again. The Gourgeamus Queen continued to approach, kneeling down to her eye level. “My Queen. Come close, breathe deeply.” It was then that there seemed to be a silvery mist floating off of the exotic flowers on her head, starting to envelop the Berserker Queen. Doing her best to obey, she staggered towards the other queen, clutching her when she got close enough. Turning to Rodin, she spoke. “Destroy the pumps, sever the tubes. Do what you can to prevent it from enraging her further. My mist can only do so much.”
Rodin sprung into action, flying up to the pumps on the Berserker Queen’s back and giving them a solid yank. The jostling made the Berserker Queen give an uneasy croon, to which the other queen hugged her and whispered calming words. Shazara-Ta himself slithered over to the remaining tube connected to her gauntlets, yanking it out. When more of the green fluid seeped from it, he sealed it up with a quick spit of ice, preventing even the smell from reaching her. As Rodin broke off the first pump, he crawled up her back and handled the other one, crushing it in his tail. What machinery the could destroy now gone, the two of them came down, huddling around the two queens. Unintentionally, Shazara-Ta inhaled the mist, and it was... calming. He eased himself into leaning against the Berserker Queen. “It’s broken now. We’ve done what we can.”
The Berserker Queen nodded uneasily, still clutching to her fellow queen. Rodin came in and leaned against the Gourgeamus Queen. The four of them shared a moment of silence as the Berserker took in deep breaths of the mist that hovered around the other queen, and the two kings took a moment to calm down, themselves.
The calm was swiftly broken as the front of the lab exploded, and the four Rulers immediately assumed combat positions, despite being weaponless. When the smoke cleared, in streamed... Mutons. Vipers. Archons. Shazara-Ta had half a mind to think ADVENT themselves came for them. That is, if he couldn’t recognize a face like Shel-Za’s anywhere. He perked up, rushing over. “Shel-Za!”
Almost dropping her weapon, Shel-Za clipped it to her belt and met him mid-way hugging him. “My King, Shazara-Ta, you’re—” She shuddered. “You’re very much cold. Are you alright?”
“Cold?” He didn’t feel any different. He watched as his inner circle approached, gathering around him. Sure enough, they reached for his skin and recoiled. “... I’m. Cold.”
Shel-Za hugged him again. “That scientist did this, didn’t she? No matter. We’ve found you, my lord.”
As angry as Shazara-Ta wanted to be at Vahlen... he wasn’t going to let it dampen this. His inner circle, his court from his home planet were here. Reaching for them and heedless of his own body temperature, he pulled them in for hugs. “I’ve missed you all,” he muttered, switching to his native language for privacy. “I...” He took in a shuddering breath, the years of agony catching up to him. “I m-missed you.”
His court pressed around him, and their relative warmth helped ease his pain. They whispered assurances and mutual sorrow, squeezing him in embrace. He’d missed them, so much, and thought of the long hours he spent wailing for them when there was no one around but Rodin.
Speaking of his fellow ruler... Shazara-Ta lifted his head. Rodin was crowded by Archons, of different shades and colors. Mutons circled the Berserker Queen, their armor marked and distinguished from the usual ADVENT brand. The Gourgeamus Queen... merely watched as the three of them reunited with those closest to them. Feeling empathy for her plight, Shazara-Ta broke off from his group and came over to her. Wordlessly, he held out his arms. She didn’t hesitate long before she took the invitation, sweeping him up and holding him close. The other rulers seemed to notice—soon, Shazara-Ta was trapped in a four-way hug and sandwiched by the Berserker Queen.
“We’re free,” Rodin breathed. “Free of the tortures of this lab.”
“We can stake out our own lives.” Shazara-Ta looked at his fellow royalty. “We can rebuild. Leave.”
“Is there anything left for us?” Their eyes turned to the Gourgeamus Queen. “My servants sacrificed themselves to sabotage one of their Gates so I could flee. They... they drained my homeworld of its resources. Is... is there anything to leave to?”
That sent some quiet into the group hug. Shazara-Ta, himself, regretted the suggestion. Of course there was nothing to return to. If their stories were anything like his, there was a puppet ruler in their places, and a population indoctrinated by the Collective. All they had now were their servants... and each other.
“Ourselves,” he interrupted the silence with. “We have each other. There must be some force rising up on this planet against ADVENT. If we gather our numbers and cooperate with them...”
The rest of the rulers got the implication, and there were nods. Surprisingly, it was one of the Berserker Queen’s Mutons that spoke up. It seemed like they could speak ADVENT—if a little poorly due to their mouth structure. “There is a resistance force on this world. It calls itself XCOM. They have been fighting against ADVENT for a while, now.”
“XCOM...” Well, it was worth a shot. “I believe we should remain together. Try to gather those of our own in ADVENT who wish to fight back.”
Rodin nodded. “A noble plan. There is safety in numbers, and... I would be loathe to leave all of you. We have all suffered together under Vahlen’s torturous eye. When we have rallied our numbers... perhaps XCOM will allow us to fight alongside them.”
“It’s possible.” This time, it was Shel-Za who spoke. “XCOM have shown themselves willing to align with former ADVENT forces in the Skirmishers. I suspect they would be respectful to our wishes to fight with them.”
“Then it’s settled,” the Gourgeamus Queen replied. “We will stay together. Forge a new home of our own. Then, when the time comes... we may fight back.”
The plan settled, the group hug broke. Looking over the lab, just the sight of the machinery was enough to make Shazara-Ta sick. He huffed. “Let’s move outside. My servants, scavenge the area. Look for weapons, usable materials, anything.” His own Boltcaster should still be here, hopefully.
Rodin turned to his followers and spoke something in his native language. The Archons nodded and flew inside, and similarly, all but one of the Mutons did on the Berserker Queen’s order. That left the rulers, along with the single Muton. Silently, Shazara-Ta moved outside, past the blasted-out door of the front.
The whole facility, once Shazara-Ta was outside and could see it, seemed to be embedded into the mouth of a cave. There were hurried footsteps in the sand... as well as some shot-down scientists and personnel. Their rescue party must’ve parsed them as threats. He went further—enough that the warm glow of the setting sun soaked into his scales. He turned behind him to find that his companions had followed, all stepping out into the sun. The Gourgeamus Queen fanned out the leaves on her back, closing her eyes and literally soaking up the sun.
Looking between the two queens, Shazara-Ta realized something. “I... I don’t think I got either of your names.”
Rodin shook his head. “Neither did I.”
The Berserker Queen said something that was probably her name, but... it was hard to parse. Noticing their confusion, the Muton with her turned to them. “The closest I can put into ADVENT is ‘Vel’kiin.” Vel’kiin chuffed, pleased with the translation. “My name is Du Mag.”
Shazara-Ta smiled. “It is good to know you, Vel’kiin, Du Mag. And yourself, Gourgeamus Queen?”
She opened her mouth to reply... and then closed it, looking towards the ground. “I... I can’t say I remember. Those long years of solitude...”
A dagger of empathy felt as if it had pierced Shazara-Ta’s heart, and he went over to rest a hand on her shoulder. “If you would like to pick another name—”
“Celosia.” All eyes went to Du Mag, who seemed a little embarrassed, but he pressed on. “I... had taken to finding books to teach myself ‘English.’ It seems to be a primary language for humans. One of the books defined native plants and...” He pointed to one on her head. “That one. I’m sure it isn’t the same, but it looks like a celosia flower under a certain mutation. Don’t remember the name, but...”
At Du Mag’s offer, she smiled. “It’s... as fine a name as any. I don’t have anyone waiting on me as you all do, so consider my new name Celosia. Thank you, Du Mag.”
Vel’kiin planted a hand on Du Mag’s head and gave him some affectionate nuzzles, to which Du Mag uttered something in his language to her. Giving a throaty chuckle, Vel’kiin relented.
Inevitably, Shazara-Ta’s gaze went back to the setting sun. The reality of the situation kept occurring to him; he was free. They were free. No more labs. No more scientists. No more Vahlen... until they found her again and exacted revenge. Wordlessly, his hand fell to hold Celosia’s. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as the chain continued; Celosia to Rodin, and Rodin to Vel’kiin as they all looked to horizon.
They were free. They could start living, again.

Sculpture as a form of art can trace back to prehistoric periods, where the earliest example of sculpture that has been discovered so far belong to the Aurignacian culture dated back to 35000 B.C. Sculpture itself, as an art that use both two- and three-dimensional representative or abstract forms carriers more than artistic values. The most common purpose of sculpture is in association with religions, those can be fund over the world such as colossal statues characterized ancient Greek art like the Statue of Zeus at Olympia. Buddhism also brought religious figures in sculpture to East Asia as the earliest equivalent tradition in the geographic area. Sculpture has possessed different value in form of art, social status, religious beliefs and cultural values, however, until the twentieth century, the most common form of sculpture was centered in human representation. Think of some of the most famous sculptor and their work, for example Gian Lorenzo Bernini, his work “Apollo and Daphne” were based on ancient Greek tales that taken in human form representation and use marble as the material for sculpture, where the scale of sculpture was related directly to the human form and phenomenological experience for the body. The sculpture today, according to Rosalind Krauss has “expanded in its field”, from several perspectives.
Rosalind Krauss’s influential essay ‘Sculpture in the Expanded Field’ has discussed the definition and what sculpture had become in the last fifty years of the twentieth century. As the definition of the art and sculpture has been more elastic than ever, the design and idea that used in sculpture has been more creative and innovative than ever. Krauss has also shared two examples, in the art history that embark the transition, which were Rodin’s Gates of Hell and Balzac. Krauss has shared her observation about sculptors express their personality and creativity, in both form of representation and placement of the art. As Rodin’s work marked the “expanded field” of sculpture in the new era, it also changes the rule sets that have been defined since prehistoric period upon the tradition sculptures. Two artists will be discussed in the following essay with relation to Rosalind Krauss’s influential essay ‘Sculpture in the Expanded Field’ and their works, the two artists that would be discussed were Austrian painter, sculptor - Manfred "KILI" Kielnhofer and American artist and sculptor – Rita Mcbride.
Kielnhofer’s most famous work is called “Guardians of Time”, this work came in serious, that Kielnhofer first developed in 2006. Unlike traditional sculpture, which would created with detailed human facial and body characteristics, Kielnhofer “Guardians of Time” continued to draw on religious and supernatural phenomena but the statues figure were covered in hooded robes and situated to mock some kind of ritual events. The sculpture has created a mysterious aura, since 2006, Kielnhofer had continued in creating and installation of those statues all over the world, as the “Guardians of Time” is a series of sculptures, Kielnhofers has placed his work in many different public places like ancient castles, parks and etc.
The “Guardians of Time” usually contains more than three human form figures in sculpture, as showed in figure 1 and 2 below, the human figure were situated different each time. Figure 1 presented ‘Guardians of Time’ that used lighting and plastic material to construct the sculpture showed at the Light Art Biennale Austria 2010, while figure 2 presented the earliest version of ‘Guardians of Time’ introduced in 2006. The lighting sculpture was postured in line and moving forth while the original sculpture was grouped together seemingly whispering with each other. The ‘Guardian of Time’ presented unique feature of sculpture in the modern era, it was a serious of design that carry the same theme. Unlike sculptures in the classical or renaissance period, sculptures in the expanded field not expanded in the themes of representation but also the medium of artistic representation.
1. 2. 1.Guardians of Time, light sculpture by Manfred Kielnhofer at the Light Art Biennale Austria 2010
2.Guardians of Time by Manfred Kielnhofer, Galerie Artpark Linz, 2006
As Rosalind Krauss argued in her influential essay ‘Sculpture in the Expanded Field’, the spectrum of sculpture has became more elastic than ever. Where sculpture has been in-door decorations that use craving as the major technique for décor purposes that eventually grows into out-door landmarks in the modern era. What Kielnhofers have done with the ‘Guardian of Time’ series was out-door artistic décor in the public sphere, especially with lighting sculptures. Sculpture in essence has connection with architecture in the past, where it was a part of a building or even a part of the architect’s design. Kielnhofer’s work coincided with Krauss’s argument that modern artists has integrated what have not be considered as component of art into their works today, for Kielnhofer’s ‘Guardian of Time’, it is a discourse of spiritual belief or even religious consideration. The work derived from Kielnhofer’s belief on some kinds of guardian watches over human kind but it was from creator’s personality and their own course of discussion of human kind’s connection with the nature.
As Kielnhofer’s use lighting as a source of material in his work, as Krauss characterized the expanded field as the domain of art in postmodernism that possess two features, one of the feature is the individual practice and personality showed in artist’s works and the other has to do with the question of medium. Light emerged as a new medium and form of art presentation in late 20th century, the collaboration of light and sculpture has presented the involvement of sculpture in terms of space, material, technology and ideas in a boarder spectrum in the artistic field. As sculpture could be extraordinary presentation for festive celebration or it can also be everyday, sculpture as an art subject does not tied with architecture, mimesis, or commemorative representation any longer in the expanded field.
Rita McBride’s works has complex operation, McBride has taken her conceptual approach to historical reference combined with expanded practice of sculpture in her work. As the expansion in the art work gradually taken place in the late 20th century, McBride has experienced the time that sculpture and other art forms been redefined, those changes have also been captured in her work with different representation. Where as sculpture is also contains subjects of architecture, McBride has intertwined her ideas with episodes in the history of modern architecture into a referential dialogue.
Most of McBride’s works hinged in two different perspectives, the first perspective is what Krauss defined as “negative condition–a kind of sitelessness, or homelessness, an absolute loss of place”, where McBride has explored the logic of sculpture in her own way and made connections with sculpture’s historical function served as monument’s commemorates. McBride’s elaboration on sculpture’s historical function took it into transition with modernity. McBride’s work, along with Krauss’s argument was defined as sculptural in terms of art categories, which is not architecture, but her work also carries the sense of architectural along. From Krauss’ essay that sculpture “had entered a categorical no-man’s land” during 1960s, where sculpture artists has became “pure maker”, that the design of sculpture has became “was in the landscape that was not landscape” or “on or in front of the building that was not the building”. McBride’s notable work, Mae West, which is a 170-foot high sculpture and Munich’s public transit system trains are going through the sculpture on daily basis. Sculpture as a form of art could been never as interactive as today, since both human and transportation means can pass through the actual work, Mae West has taken in form similar to historical monument but built with carbon fiber reinforced polymer into a hyperboloid revolution. The Mae West project of McBride not only challenged traditional material used in public assumed dimension of sculpture again but also taken in the sense of futuristic aesthetic in the sculpture work. As Krauss argued, where sculpture has been kneaded, stretched and twisted in an extraordinary demonstration of elasticity, it also showed how the understanding of art could expand to include almost anything.
McBride’s’ practice was also linked with the redefinition of architecture, furniture and interior design. McBride’s Explorer exhibition at WIELS has presented a dialogue between architecture and design in sculpture, also revealed how architecture and sculpture can inform and measures on another. McBride had several series of works that were inspired by the built environment around her, including air conditioning units, pipes, skylights, telephone boxes, that she transformed into art pieces. Her work had reintroduced those already known items in different materials or scales to explore the functionality and formation of existing items. Her work has presented a discourse on the functionalism and surrealism in consistency of her approach and vision, where her work series including White Elephants (From 1999 to 2015), Managers and Minimanagers (From 2003 to 2004), and Vents (2010) have consistent presentation of the furniture and home appliance as subject of manipulation.
As McBride’s work combined with installation, lighting, miniatures and large scales, her other famous work has offered a new option for postmodernism artists while posed challenge to traditional understanding of sculpture in a different form, the work is Arena (1997-ongoing). Arena used a kind of modular bleacher system, it has been installed in many different hosting institutions and also can be used for various discussions and performances organized by the host institution. What was suggested by the project of Arena is modular unit mass production in the installation project that can be installed into different configuration where it was still virtually the same artwork. Arena was developed during the time where viewer’s participation was important to sculpture than the art objectives; despite the potential of modular reproduction, Arena also provides a template for programs and events in the host institution. The idea of modular and designed with parts that can easily assembled and disassembled not only suggested possibility of mass-production but also flat-packing as the cornerstones of the modern design industry. Arena is a generative device, it was not simply one displayed art but connection that provided to visitors and host institution with the spaces. As it can be assembled into different configuration, it also offered different experiences to each institution at their conveniences.
As the term of sculpture has been pulled and stretched for many year, the vanguards of aesthetic ideology continue to evolved. New idea has overtly performed in contrast to historicism and traditions that made the new more familiar than ever, with gradually shift from the past. Manfred Kielnhofer and Rita McBride as two postmodernism artist that received influences from expanded filed of art and sculpture has presented their work in the way that considerably different. Their work has reflected the idea that Rosalind Krauss discussed in her influential essay ‘Sculpture in the Expanded Field’, that sculpture has more connection and boarder spectrum than ever, and the idea of sculpture has become more elastic with twists from artist’s self-representation.
