please tell me this manga/comic/show exists i do not wanna have to make it
okok I've posted about this before but I'm watching animation content on youtube again while getting work done and by GOD I WANNA TALK ABOUT THIS AGAIN
There's a specific concept I want to consume as content/art so badly but it came to me in a stupid dream. BUT. Sometimes, a dream means I DID see a hint of it somewhere and my brain accidentally plagiarized it which provides me with the teensiest sliver of hope that exists already and I don't have to work on it
It's a kind of a reverse isekai, right? But instead of an instant portal, it's time passing. And what I mean by that is that it's a Sun Wukong story, but the branch off is that after the main events of Journey to the West he gets either water temple'd or trapped in magic sleep again, not for a few hundred years but a few THOUSAND.
He wakes up to an incredibly far-flung China that remembers his myth and only his myth.
The art style that operated in this dream was sort of. Textured but 3D? Think nimona's buttery lighting but instead of emphasis on light and shapes to operate with the stained glass and solarpunk-medieval style the models are textured in a way that just invokes traditional brushwork and colour bleed even in a more cyberpunkish setting. Think like. Whenever there's a night scene the astigmatism glow of lamplight bleeds a little, like ink feathering on paper.
It's a little bit of a Steve Rogers treatment in a way, the world has moved past him, but also completely mythologized and capitalized on that mythology. Rather than treat that man out of time narrative as an aspect of backstory, it's the MAIN character narrative, because this ISN'T a world that needs him. This world is doing pretty okay, actually.
This a story about him.
Not about his feats or how cool his powers are or the 8 gajillion things the magic staff can do but just.
How ya doing, bud?
From the vaguely coherent notes that I could garner from my sleepily typed googledoc, it seems that I wanted this to be a love letter of sorts to the Asian diaspora experience? A specific sort of loneliness? Where the world you experience has a sort of disconnect in that it makes plain you belong there but you also don't, you never have, and there's no way to go "back" but going forward feels like groping blind through the muck. How much right to the past does he feel like he has? When it's been built into something he can't recognize and is clearly important to other people.
I want the pickup of the plot to gain him friends, family, maybe even a conflict or two but the stakes should never elevate vis a vis physical enemies to battle.
It'd be about 2/3 of this sort of narrative drawn story and the other 1/3 just hogwild worldbuilding and design
I've looked at a few other journey to the west adaptations but they mainly just use him as a funky lil action figure hero that's there to be cool as hell and save the day
99% likely this is just a thing my brain is made up and I'd need a several million budget and about 25 additional skills to start the ball rolling but hey, worth it to ask yall again

Y’all I had the weirdest dream about JTTW a couple nights ago. And when I say weird, I mean it was WEIRD. It was also EXTREMELY vivid and I don’t even know how to explain it using coherent sentences so I put it into bullet points:
Starts with the pilgrims walking along through a mountain pass normally
Jump cut to them in a shop of some kind, Bai Longma is just gone for some reason
Implied potential Trip x Wukong ship teasing (I don’t even ship them at all literally WHERE did this come from and why)
They all take some kind of weird medicine and get high?? Idk??? Everything turned all swirly and colorful and shit???
Wukong & Tripitaka are somehow accidentally shoved into each other, the weird medicine abruptly wears off
Bajie & Wujing tease and laugh at them, Wukong’s embarrassed, Tripitaka excuses himself & Wukong & they go into a dark back room to talk over whatever tf just happened
Door suddenly closes & vanishes, room turns into a cave
Red bug-looking creature enters, calls itself “El Chupacabra” even tho it looked nothing like the actual cryptid, Tripitaka makes some snarky remark about it being too small to be scary (idr the exact wording but did he and Wukong switch personalities all of a sudden bc DAMN), Chupacabra gets angry & disappears
Weird smell/poisonous gas fills the room, a hole opens up but it’s a portal to a stretch of beach at night, they escape & collapse unconscious onto the sand
Cut to the next morning, they somehow got teleported by the hole into modern day Mexico (despite me never having been to Mexico I somehow knew exactly where they were) and were found by some old couple who are giving them food & shelter until they can get home
Old man tells them about attacks around their town while showing them goat carcasses & skeletons on the street & says the Chupacabra is known as a goat eater
Tripitaka: “Did you say ‘goat eater’ or ‘ghost eater’?” Old man: “Both would be correct.” (Apparently the Chupacabra in this dream eats the souls of goats ig??)
Another jump cut to the old couple’s kitchen, Wukong is upstairs doing… something, Tripitaka is making himself tea and talking with the couple, idr the conversation fully but somehow he realizes they got plonked into the 21st Century & panics, says fuck for the first time in his life
Goes upstairs to tell Wukong the news, also tells him he just swore for the first time ever & Wukong laughs at him while he panics some more
The dream ended there I think but like HUH???

I just woke up and i had a nice dream. Two dreams actually.
The first was of LMK.
That was going on a big fair in Megapolis, there were a bunch of games and activities around. Mei, MK and i think Sandy and Red Son were playing some sort of virtual reality game that im not sure what it was, but had a lot of blue pixels around it. There was a play, and a bunch of youguai were watching, and a few were using animal masks that they got as prizes. The stage resembled a circus or greek theather because its was circular, and there were no props, just the actors. Then for some reason i was there too, but in a tent trying to win a game where i had to throw something and hit some sort of target. Macaque was there too, and he had won a pink bat plushie that resembled a peach and was very fluffy. I managed to win, and i had to choose between a bunch of bat plushies that looked almost the same, they were mostly a dark blue in color, but with rainbowy details. Macaque pointed out one had little stars on its back, so i chose that one and we played with our plushies :D i don't remember seeing Wukong TwT but i thiiiiiink he was in the background watching the play. The lighting around everything was blue, purple, and a shade of blueish green sometimes, so the dream looked very pretty because of the colorful lights. I might draw something of it while my memory is fresh.
The second dream i think was based on Black Myth wukong, because the appearence of the dream resembled the artstyle of the game.
There was this boy that had an argument with his father, thinking he wasn't wanted, so he ran away, but got lost in the forest where lots of youguai were known to roam. He could hear some approaching when he finds an odd metal trinket on the ground. It was small, round and had holes in it where you could see a little bell inside. A wolf guai approached him, saying he was going to eat him and share with the others. The boy tries lying, saying he was a youguai cub and not a human kid, but the wolf kept approaching. After the boy said he was a tiger youguai, his apearence changes and he now looks like one (i think the Wolf must have had bad eyesight, because didn't he just see he looked like a human before? Eh, i think it was Because he was in the dark, anyways) the wolf stops, a bit confused but is convinced the boy was telling the truth since he looked like a tiger, and apologises for the mistake, and tells him to follow because the woods were dangerous and he's supposed to be in school. Turns out the trinket the boy took could make a human look like a guai, but If he stays in bright light they would be able to see the ilusion, he realizes this when the last rays of sunlight hits his arm, making the ilusion kinda transparent and you could see a human arm underneath. He follows the wolf to a place that was kinda like a youguai school or daycare, and the kids were having a snack on a big table, and there were some adults supervising too. He is careful to avoid the lanterns and stay were light was more dim, and eats and chats with them. This one dream legit looks more like a tale or something that could appear in the game, idk.
My dreams are always very detailed and story like, so i thought of sharing them here :)

Last night I had a dream where I was Sun Wukong. Tripitaka was using the tightening headband spell on me, I didn't know what I did, but it was agony. Sadly and Pigsy just kept looking at me with distain and anger, I tried begging them to help me but they just watched. They all were so angry at me and I didn't know why.
This is interesting cause a little bit before that I was dreaming about having fun with my friend at their school. Idk man, minds are freaky.
