I was a big fan of Soviet cartoons for a while before Treasure Island got popular and I remember being sad because it was quite a niche interest so when it starting gaining attention I was excited even though I hadn't seen it yet because I was happy that outsiders were finally watching and liking a Soviet cartoon even if it was one I didn't know much about... but I found out about the fandom and how bad it was it honestly made me sad as I thought people actually cared about the cartoon and Soviet animation and the fact that it seemed like they were just joining the fandom so they could just make weird headcanons, pairings, simp for the characters and make NSFW of them made me really upset especially with many of them being English speakers or Americans as it seemed like they didn't actually care about Treasure Island or Soviet animation and only got into the fandom because of a meme...
I have sadly seen this with other foreign cartoons and animation gaining outside fandoms especially ones I like and I don't understand this fascination but with Americans especially taking obscure franchises and turning them into the next garbage animation fandom... especially with how many bad western animation fandoms there are I guess the toxic ones especially have to get their grubby hands on franchises just to ruin them.
I also have noticed some of these American fans can be rather discriminatory towards the countries these animations come from and often judge them by American standards and often try to criticise or misinterept them because they are very misinformed or have some stupid standards and even try to call some of these franchises problematic just because they come from certain countries or come from different times where they would be products of them and even judge them based on their own modern standards and try to project modern ideals onto them even when they don't fit and have nothing to do with the original premise... they also can be quite toxic and try to force their ideals onto a franchise or fandom even when it has nothing to do with it and many of them only care about surface level stuff and don't seem to care about the creators who made it or the country it came from.
I'm not exculsionist or a gatekeeper as I usually don't care what people do in fandoms but I do draw a line when I feel like there's an issue as I hate people who just join fandoms just because they are popular and don't actually give a crap about the actual work in question and just use it as a way to be toxic and I have even seen people go as far as to disrespect the creators of said works and only join a fandom to criticise how bad the work is... like why are you even here then? And as someone who really loves animation and appreciates it, it saddens me to see people treat such works like this especially with how little attention foreign animation gets in the western world. Do we really need awful fandoms ruining them?
I'm not saying all people are like this and that we should force people to enjoy things a certain way but is it too much to ask to try and be respectful to some of these works especially when they hold so much value to other people and countries? Can't you just stick to your regular awful fandoms and not bring other works into this? And while I know people say that these fandoms after often the minority this really isn't the case for the obscure ones that get popular especially due to these toxic people.
It especially saddens me as there are some obscure things I've wanted to share and make art of but I'm scared of people getting their hands on it and ruining people's exposure to these works and while it may seem like I'm being negative that isn't to say that all obscure fandoms are like this as there are a lot of good fandoms that even if they are small don't have the same level of toxicity and plenty of people who do legitmately like these works and not for superficial reasons.
I'm sorry if it seems like I was ranting but I've seen this for a while and I wanted to vent about it but I'm sorry if this isn't a appropriate place to do so and if I'm being rude.
I agree with you in everything here. The hypocrisy of many really amazes me, because it is a living phenomenon and an indicator of the stupidity of some people. It's a shame that this happens.

- Fig Faeth, of Fig and the Cig Figs -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image Description:
Fanart of the Tiefling character, Fig Faeth, from the Dungeons and Dragons webseries Dimension 20. She has light red skin with two horns that fade into a warm off-white colour as they extend from her body. She is wearing a plain sleeveless black shirt, a leather jacket with various poorly sewn on patches, and a red skirt with a belt. Tucked behind her ear are two phoenix feathers from her girlfriend, Ayda Aguefort.
Her hair is a light brown and is dyed at the ends a red, with most of her hair tied into bubble-pigtails and her bangs loose in her face. Her elven-ears are pierced, her hands are decorated with rings, and she is proudly sticking her middle finger in the air with a grin. With her other hand, she is holding a microphone and the lead for it is draped around her body intentionally.
Her patches, of which there are five, have the following; a simple image of a bee, the text 'Baby & Baby Baby' on a red background, a triangle flag-shaped patch with 'Hoot Growl' on it in red on a white background, a mostly obscured 'rock on' hand gesture, and lastly an orange patch with an arrow and the words 'This Way Up', which is of course placed upside down.]

Lloyd swears, but never in any human language. Instead they kinda grumble and growl like a dragon. They learnt it because when they first moved in with the ninja Wu used to curse ALOT. He used to grumble and the rest of the ninja just thought it was normal and just somthing he did but Lloyd started picking up on it after awhile.
Misako can't speak in dragon but she understands a decent amount. She was not happy when Lloyd started copying Wu.

Having contradicting (personality wise) types is so funny because this is legit me:
border collie: bite things, Chase sheep, steal owner’s boot, wag tail, bar-
The motherfucking dragon in me: - STRIKE FEAR INTO THE HEARTS OF YOUR ENEMIES, EAT PEOPLE, DESTROY CIVILIZATION >:DD
SD-N: Honestly, are you guys okay?!
tundra wolf, bored af expression: Hey, Jim. Is this normal?
the white eyed, deer skulled, hunched back cryptid actively ripping apart an elk carcass: Yeah.

Oneshot Mini-Ramble Three
For This: https://www.tumblr.com/puppetmaster13u/749966584630673408/thinkin-of-several-oneshots-and-i-wanna-ramble
ANYWAY. Day 3, doing another middle one: Shadow Dragon Au
Well first off, this is a reverse robins AU! Bruce gets baby- around 3 or 4- Damian due to said baby taking after him draconically. The Al Ghuls are more serpentine dragons, more eastern-style mixed with sea serpent. And it's just not healthy for Damian to live there in the desert, so he's brought to his father instead.
There's of course adjustments, and then in the middle of all this? Finds the neighbor's toddler digging through the trash with another blonde toddler. Apparently someone left a cursed item or three be easily accessible and yeah, there's two more hatchlings in Gotham.
Now Damian? Relationship with his siblings is quite different because older sibling? Bad. Younger siblings? Why that's a small creature that looks up to him, that sees him as a role model. And dragons? They hoard.
So is it really that big of a surprise when more hatchlings follow?

I love your Soviet Russian cartoon treasure island art. Do you still draw that stuff? If so, then can you draw dr livesey where he is snoring while he is sleeping pls?
Oh, thank you, I'm glad to know that! And yes, I still draw Treasure Island, but I don't want to show it here. If you're interested, I'm showing it here: https://vk.com/silvernest
I don't know if I'll ever continue to show it here, but definitely not today.
And the idea of a sleeping Livesey is pretty sweet, I've actually been thinking about it for a long time, and there were a couple of sketches somewhere, but I didn't show them anywhere. Maybe someday I'll draw it again.

what do you mean with your hc that simon was always a dragon?
okay so this is one of my deepest most self indulgent headcanons because i'm gay and i think he deserves more and sharper teeth but it's extrapolated from a bunch of different details in the series: 1. we don't know what kind of blood davy used in the ritual. lucy couldn't identify it, but it almost definitely wasn't human. killing a dragon is one of the worst things you can do in the WoM and i really think davy isn't above that, at this point. (in terms of what i think the ritual entailed, i don't think he would have killed an adult dragon, either. a son for a son.) 2. simon's false feather wings dissolved in a bloody mess, but his dragon wings did not. iirc, he also had to wish for them, and penelope pointed out that this is fundamentally Not How Magic Works 3. penny also theorized that simon was actually turning INTO a dragon at the moment he got his wings, unless i'm misremembering again? its been a while since my last reread of the series and i have a memory disorder bear with me 4. "you don't kill a dragon unless you're trying to open a portal to hell" davy what did you do. DAVY, WHAT DID YOU DO. 5. once magic stops working on simon at all/after he loses his magic, the wings don't disappear, which makes me think they weren't powered by magic in the first place; they were just a part of his body. 6. margaret almost immediately (probably falsely but still) identifies him as a Kitten. she straight up thinks he's a baby dragon. maybe he smells like one, or feels like one, but i feel like she would be the most qualified to like ... tell? simon insists he isn't, but she seems confused and even a little put off when he tries to say he isn't just a lost dragon-kit. 7. when he's going off his magic is described as very blistery and prickly and black and red, and he glows and smokes and smells like a forest fire. dragon coded as fuuuuck 8. i think it would fucking rule I've never quite decided if i want it to be dragon ancestry, or if he's some kind of changeling via the ritual*, or something else, but the reason i draw the sword of mages with a fancy hilt shaped like a dragon is because i also headcanon that it looks different for everyone who wields it. (in my Baz Is The Heir AU: he summons it as a spada da lato, light as a feather with a handguard that curls like fire in a windstorm, inset with little sapphires) and simon's just ALWAYS been that dragony. i want him to grow more teeth, and they keep growing so he either has to accept them or have them pulled. i want his nails to be hard and sturdy as iron and he just never notices because he's always used them as tools, and he thought everyone's were like that. he bites them off because they break clippers. i want the red scales around the second set of deltoids (the ones on his wings) to start slowly creeping down his back and over his shoulders over time. because i think it would fucking rule. *i subscribe to this one the most, tho. makes sense. also i feel like the mage WouldTM.

Cao Pi's death scene in Growling Tiger Rising Dragon - I loved that on the verge of death he makes that callback to how he wrote on her hand when they were young...
and his heir, Cao Rui, who has a relationship with his father as messed up as Cao Pi himself had with Cao Cao watches, his loathing for the woman who supplanted his mother, about to burst:
Tumblr media
Cao Rui is someone no censor today would let pass - a cross between Caligula and Yeonsangun - who executes painters by the dozens for not capturing the likeness of his dead mother (until he poses for them in women's clothes as her) and who yearns for the love of the father who never liked him and would have killed him if it wasn't for the father's second empress who he loathes for replacing his mother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The contrast between The Advisors Alliance (both s1 and GTHD) and nowadays is SO stark though this was made less than a decade ago. This drama allowed Cao Pi to be both good (he's genuinely brave, he genuinely loves his second empress, he yearns for his father's love, he's a hell of a ruler/warrior, he tries to save people he cares for) and terrible (he killed his first wife and almost killed his son, he did get rid of his brother, he did a ton of ruthless bad stuff) but that is what makes him feel like a real person and a real period noble and a real period ruler - and the new idiotic restrictions don't get that all the bad stuff he did doesn't make him any less competent or worthy to be king, it just makes him more believable.
PS In general, the level of realism in period cdramas went down drastically. The scene where Tan Jianci talks about the horror of his first kill and his terror of his own own mortality to his sister in law? Brilliant and I cannot imagine in today's drama.
