obsessed with Kaguragi’s insert song (and especially the lyrics referencing the famous cuckoo poem of the Sengoku era... specifically, Nobunaga’s line...)
#Kaguragi Dybowski#Royal Sentai Kingohger#Ohsama Sentai Kingohger#if you're not familiar with the poem it's very short#if the cuckoo doesn't sing Nobunaga says kill it#if the cuckoo doesn't sing Hideyoshi says make it#if the cuckoo doesn't sing Ieyasu says wait until it does#tl;dr it's basically ''good things come to those who wait'' but it does a good job of outlining the personalities of those three figures

ryan you simply must tell the people about jean bean jane
The people yearn for Jean Bean Jane so I simply must give them what they want.
(awesome art by siderealkid on Twitter)
So Jean Bean Jane is a character I made a few years ago. She was originally made for a Danganronpa RP, although her gimmick applies really well with any world where people have their own special abilities (stuff like My Hero Academia works really great for this, however I'll be introducing her the way that I introduced her in the Danganronpa story)
So in the DR story, she calls herself the Ultimate Merchant. She's the middle child in a somewhat prestigious family. Born Jean Ieyasu, she's the middle child with an older brother named Honda, a prestigious inventor, and a younger sister named Doohickey, an equally prestigious mechanic (anyone who was around for my old game planning streams may remember her). She was always different from her siblings, favoring the more flamboyant and dramatic flairs, usually helping to sell their inventions with her eye-catching (and frankly dogshit) fashion sense and her choice of speaking. She talks like a carnival barker, speaking loudly and quickly and taking advantage of the inevitable confusion, usually trying to sucker someone into literally buying her magic beans. She also doesn't mind being a bit of a scam artist at times.
Oh yeah, the beans. The twist behind her character is that she tries to pretend that she has some sort of special ability (an Ultimate Talent in DR, a quirk in MHA, etc), but she does not. She was not born with one. However, her siblings made a super cool machine for her to use. What this machine does is that it takes the DNA of someone who has a superpower/talent/ability and it turns it into jellybeans. If she eats someone's jellybean, she gets that person's ability for five minutes (and if she eats too many in a short time period she gets sick, so she can only use this sparingly). She uses her general charisma to get DNA from unsuspecting people (i.e. "Bet you can't spit in this cup from five feet away")
Anyway, that's the lowdown of her character. The most important elements of her is that A) She doesn't have powers and uses the jellybeans to steal others' powers B) She's a bit of a bastard C) Her fashion sense is awful.

In the shadowy forge nestled within the tranquil hills of Sagami, the flames of the charcoal fire danced hypnotically as the hammer sang its rhythmic song of creation. Gorō Nyūdō Masamune, his face etched with the lines of a life dedicated to the ancient craft, paused for a brief moment to admire the fiery glow of the steel on the anvil before him. With a deep, steady breath, he raised his hammer once more, each strike a silent declaration of his mastery over the unyielding metal. The year was 1288, and the end of the tumultuous Kamakura period loomed, yet in this sanctuary of fire and steel, time held its breath as the legend of Japan's greatest swordsmith was being forged.
The Honjō Masamune, a living testament to Masamune's unrivaled skill, had journeyed through the annals of history, touching the hands of warlords and shaping the fate of battles. Its storied past grew richer with each passing year, as the blade, though marred by the scars of combat, remained a symbol of unparalleled craftsmanship and power. After the epochal encounter with General Honjō Shigenaga, the sword found itself in the possession of Toyotomi Hidetsugu, a man whose own destiny was entwined with the tumultuous era of warring states. As the blade passed from one notable owner to another, its legend grew, until it finally rested in the esteemed hands of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Through generations of Tokugawa rulers, the Honjō Masamune remained a treasured emblem of their power and lineage, revered and maintained with the utmost care. Yet, the capricious hand of fate had other plans for this legendary weapon. As the curtain closed on the feudal epoch and the sun of the Meiji Restoration rose, the sword, along with Japan's storied past, was swept into the chaos of modernity. During the occupation by the United States at the end of World War II, the Honjō Masamune, like so many other relics of Japan's martial heritage, was caught in the tumultuous tide of change. Tokugawa Iemasa, the sword's custodian, made the difficult decision to surrender the blade to the Mejiro police station in December 1945, hoping it would be preserved for posterity. The enigmatic "Sgt. Coldy Bimore" emerged as the last known figure to claim the sword, and with his mysterious disappearance, the Honjō Masamune slipped into the veil of the unknown. Its current whereabouts remain shrouded in the mists of time, leaving historians and enthusiasts alike to ponder the fate of this national treasure, a silent sentinel to the unyielding spirit of Japan's greatest swordsmith.
In the bustling metropolis of New York City, 1947, the grand ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel shimmered with opulence, a stark contrast to the gritty battlefields and dusty ruins Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr. was more accustomed to. Dressed impeccably in a tailored tuxedo, the renowned archaeologist stood before a sea of esteemed academics and patrons of Marshall College, his heart swelling with a rare blend of pride and humility. As he took the podium to accept the prestigious award for his unparalleled contributions to historical preservation, the room hushed to a respectful silence. His eyes, though weary from the years spent chasing artifacts across the globe, gleamed with the passion that had driven him to unearth the lost and forgotten. The applause resonated through the grand hall as he began his speech, his voice a blend of the charismatic professor and the seasoned adventurer. "I am deeply honored to receive this recognition," he said, his tone earnest yet tinged with the humility of a man who knew the true value of the artifacts he safeguarded. "But let us not forget that our quest for knowledge is an ever-evolving journey, and with each discovery, we are merely uncovering a page from a book with countless unwritten chapters." He paused, a knowing smile playing at the corners of his lips. "The true treasure is not the artifacts themselves, but the stories they whisper from the annals of time, stories that remind us of the indomitable human spirit and the boundless potential of our shared history." The audience hung on his every word, captivated by the tales of ancient civilizations and the mysteries that still lay hidden beneath the sands and within the jungles.
As the grandiose festivities of the evening wound to a close, Indiana Jones stepped out of the taxi and into the cool embrace of the New York night, the city's neon lights painting the sidewalks with an electric glow. His townhouse, a bastion of calm amidst the urban sprawl, stood as a silent sentinel to the adventures that had shaped his life. Upon reaching the front door, he was met with an unexpected sight—a stoic Japanese courier, clad in traditional attire, standing with an air of urgency. The courier, with a deep bow, presented him with a meticulously wrapped parcel. "For Dr. Henry Jones, Jr.," he intoned, his voice a soft whisper in the night. Recognizing the kanji inscribed upon the delicate paper, Jones's curiosity piqued. With trembling hands, he carefully unfurled the scroll within. The parchment was ancient, its fibers whispering of a time long lost to the ravages of history. Upon it, a cryptic message danced in a delicate script, hinting at the whereabouts of the legendary Honjō Masamune. His heart racing, Indiana knew that he had been handed the first clue to a mystery that could rewrite the narrative of not only his career but the very fabric of Japanese history itself. The whispers of the scroll grew louder in his mind, beckoning him to embark on a quest that would lead him back to the land of the rising sun, where the legacy of Gorō Nyūdō Masamune awaited, shrouded in the shadows of the past and the chaos of the recent war. The stage was set for an adventure that would challenge his intellect, his courage, and his very understanding of the world.
Indiana Jones stepped into the dimly lit study, the scent of aged books and dusty artifacts greeting him like old friends. His eyes searched the room until they found Dr. Isabella Johansson, her brunette hair swept back in a bun as she pored over a stack of ancient tomes. "Bella," he called out, his voice a warm baritone that resonated through the cluttered space. She looked up, her piercing blue eyes lighting up with excitement at the sight of him. "Indy! What brings you here?"
He held out the unfurled scroll, the kanji seeming to pulse with life in the flickering candlelight. "I've got a lead on the Honjō Masamune," he said, his voice a mix of anticipation and urgency. "It's still in Japan."
Dr. Johansson took the scroll with reverent care, her eyes scanning the delicate script. "Ah, the work of a master," she murmured. "But the trail is cold. It's been lost for centuries."
"Not anymore," Indy said, his gaze intense. "I have reason to believe it's in the hands of someone who doesn't fully understand its significance."
Her eyes narrowed, and she leaned closer to the scroll. "This…this is a map of sorts. A cryptic poem guiding the reader to its location."
"What does it say?" he pressed.
"In dawn's first light, where cherry blossoms sway, a swarm of giants, with wingspan wide as day," Isabella recited, her voice a soft melody that danced with the shadows in the room.
Indy leaned in, his eyes alight with excitement. "Sounds like we're looking for a place with a grove of large, old trees, possibly with significant historical or cultural value."
"Indeed," she nodded, her fingers tracing the kanji. "The second passage is more intriguing. 'In twilight's hush, where ancient stones do sleep, a sentinel of coils, a guardian deep, with eyes that pierce the heart of night, guards secrets hidden from the light.' It speaks of a stone statue, perhaps a dragon, in a quiet, possibly sacred location."
"A dragon, huh?" Indiana mused, stroking his chin. "Could be a Shinto shrine or an ancient burial site."
"And the third," she continued, her voice dropping to a whisper, "Where snow-capped grandeur meets the sky, a whispered truth is waiting nigh, the silence broken by the wind's sigh, a hidden key, for eyes to apply. In ancient heartbeats, secrets sleep where fiery whispers weave a mystic keep, a gateway to the depths below where shadows dance, and embers glow."
The archaeologist's eyes narrowed as he pictured the scene. "A mountainous region, likely with an active volcano nearby, and a hidden chamber within it all."
They exchanged a knowing look, the weight of the mystery heavy in the air. The Honjō Masamune was out there, somewhere between the lines of ancient poetry and the whispers of the past, waiting for them to unravel its secrets. The adventure had only just begun.
With the pieces of the puzzle laid before them, Indiana Jones knew that the quest for the Honjō Masamune would not be one he could undertake alone. He needed a team as diverse and skilled as the challenges they would face. His thoughts immediately turned to his trusted comrades from past adventures: Sallah, the Egyptian excavator whose knowledge of ancient secrets was matched only by his unrivaled bravery, and Short Round, the young prodigy from their escapade in India, who had grown into a resourceful and daring pilot. He also knew that Dr. Isabella Johansson's expertise in Japanese culture and artifacts would be invaluable in navigating the uncharted waters of the quest ahead.
Assembling his team, Indiana sent a coded message to Sallah, who was working on a dig in the Middle East. Within days, the stoic Egyptian arrived in New York, his eyes alight with the fire of adventure. Short Round, now a young man with a penchant for leather jackets and a devil-may-care attitude, answered the call from his new life in San Francisco, eager to rejoin his mentor. Dr. Johansson, whose curiosity had been piqued by the enigmatic scroll, readily agreed to join the expedition, bringing her sharp intellect and extensive knowledge of Japan's storied past.
Together, they stood in the shadow of the city's towering skyscrapers, an unlikely quartet bound by fate and the pursuit of the extraordinary. As they boarded the plane to Japan, the whispers of the scroll grew stronger, guiding them toward a destiny that would intertwine their lives with the legend of Gorō Nyūdō Masamune. The adventure of a lifetime awaited them, a journey fraught with peril and discovery, as they sought to reclaim the lost legacy of Japan's greatest swordsmith and solve the riddle of the Honjō Masamune.
As the aircraft droned on through the night, Indiana Jones leaned over the map spread out on the makeshift table, his eyes scanning the contours of Japan. "The poem points us to a place of great natural beauty and historical significance," he murmured, his finger tracing the path from the cherry blossom grove to the volcanic mountain range.
Sallah, his eyes gleaming with excitement, leaned in. "The dragon statue could be in any one of the thousands of shrines scattered across the country."
Short Round, peering over their shoulders, interjected with a grin. "But we got the smarts to figure it out, right, Doctor Jones?"
Isabella, her gaze lingering on the scroll, spoke softly. "The third verse hints at a fiery location, a volcanic cave, perhaps."
"And that's where we'll find the key to the sword's resting place," Indy concluded, his voice firm with determination.
In the opulent mansion of Hiroshi Tanaka, a wealthy and notorious collector of looted artifacts, the air was thick with the scent of greed and ambition. His eyes gleamed with a cold, calculated hunger as he surveyed his latest acquisitions. "The Honjō Masamune," he murmured, stroking the edge of a glossy photograph. "It would be the crown jewel of my collection." Turning to his henchman, Kenji, a man of few words but unquestionable loyalty and brute strength, he barked an order. "Find it, no matter the cost. I want that sword." Kenji nodded, his stoic gaze revealing nothing of the challenges ahead. As the archaeologist and his team approached Japan, unbeknownst to them, a shadowy web of danger was being spun around the very artifact they sought. With a gesture to his gang of thugs dressed in the garb of ancient samurai, Tanaka set in motion a relentless pursuit that would soon clash with Indiana Jones' own quest for the legendary blade. "Do not disappoint me," he warned, his voice as sharp as the steel they sought. Kenji's eyes never left his employer's as he bowed to him as if he responded, "It will be done." And with that, the chase for the Honjō Masamune grew more perilous, as the line between historical preservation and cold-hearted greed grew ever finer.
"In dawn's first light, where cherry blossoms sway, a swarm of giants, with wingspan wide as day," Indy recited from the scroll, his gaze fixed on the horizon. The four of them had arrived in Japan, the land of the rising sun, and the quest for the Honjō Masamune had brought them to the outskirts of Kyoto, a city renowned for its beauty and storied past. The air was crisp with the promise of spring, and the first hints of pink blossoms kissed the branches of the ancient trees that lined the streets. "It's clear," he said, turning to the others, "that we need to find a place where cherry blossoms grow in abundance."
Sallah, ever the pragmatist, spoke up. "But Indy, Kyoto is known as the City of Ten Thousand Shrines. There are countless places where such a grove might exist."
"True," Isabella mused, "but we must consider the giants with a wingspan as wide as day. It's not just any grove we're looking for—it's one that holds significance, one that has been touched by the hands of time."
Short Round, his eyes sparkling with excitement, pointed to a map they had procured. "What about this place? It's got a bunch of big ol' trees and a shrine too!"
Indy leaned in, scrutinizing the map. "The Fushimi Inari Shrine," he murmured. "It's famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which could be seen as a swarm of giants from the right perspective."
"And it's not just the gates," Isabella added. "The shrine is dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, tea, and sake. The foxes here are considered to be its messengers. Perhaps the 'wingspan wide as day' refers to the fox tails, which are often depicted as being incredibly large."
They arrived at the breathtaking Fushimi Inari Shrine as the first light of dawn kissed the vermilion gates. The air was thick with anticipation and the sweet scent of the blooming sakura. As they approached the base of the sacred mountain, a buzzing grew louder, a sound that seemed almost in harmony with the rustle of leaves and whispers of the early morning wind. "The swarm of giants," Sallah murmured, his eyes widening as he took in the sight before them. The cherry blossom trees, usually a vision of serene beauty, were indeed hosting a swarm of giants—but not the kind they had expected. Hundreds of suzumebachi, the giant Japanese hornets, swarmed through the air, their wings casting shadows like the flitting of a thousand tiny swords. "Suzumebachi," Isabella whispered, her voice tinged with a mix of awe and horror. "Their sting is said to be more painful than a snake's bite and can dissolve flesh."
Indy's gaze sharpened, his hand reflexively reaching for the whip at his side. "We've got to be careful," he warned, his eyes darting around the perimeter of the grove. "These creatures are the most dangerous in Japan."
Short Round whistled lowly. "They don't look like they're in the mood for tourists."
"Let's stick together," Isabella instructed, her voice calm despite the fear etched on her face. "And try not to disturb them."
"We can't go in there unprotected," Dr. Johansson said, her voice tight with concern as she eyed the swarm of suzumebachi.
Indy nodded, his mind racing. "Sallah, grab those paper lanterns from the shrine," he instructed. "They're made of strong material and could shield us."
"And what of the smoke?" Sallah asked, pointing to the nearby incense burner.
"Exactly," Indy said, a plan forming. "The smoke from the incense might keep them at bay."
They quickly worked together, soaking the paper lanterns in the sweet-smelling incense water. As they approached the grove, they lit the lanterns, creating a billowy barrier of smoke around themselves. The buzzing grew more frantic, but the hornets hovered just outside their makeshift shield.
"Let's move," Indy said, his voice a low rumble. "We need to find the next clue before these guys get too curious."
They ventured deeper into the grove, the soft light from the lanterns casting an eerie glow on the ancient stone fox statues. Finally, they reached a clearing where a solitary torii gate stood, its vermilion paint faded with age. Hidden in the crook of the gate's wooden structure was a small, intricately carved wooden box. With trembling hands, Isabella reached for it, her eyes never leaving the swarm of hornets that watched them from a safe distance.
"Careful," Indy warned, his whip at the ready.
The box opened with a gentle click, revealing a single, ancient key, its metal gleaming with an untouched sheen. It was the key to the crumbling temple, the next piece of the puzzle in their quest for the Honjō Masamune. As they pocketed the key, the sun broke through the clouds, casting a warm light upon the shrine and the surrounding city of Kyoto. The hornets dispersed, their wings catching the light in a dance of gold. With the first clue secured, they knew their adventure had only just begun.
Indiana Jones's heart raced as he heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps crackling through the fallen leaves behind them. He whipped around, his eyes locking onto Kenji and his gang of Tanaka's goons, their eyes gleaming with malicious intent. Without a word, Kenji signaled his men to give chase. The four friends took off, their boots pounding the ground as they sprinted through the ancient grove, the whip of Indy's trusty bullwhip crackling through the air. The suzumebachi, disturbed by the commotion, grew agitated, their buzzing crescendoing into a deafening roar. The goons pursued them relentlessly, their swords glinting in the early morning light. As the chase grew more intense, the archaeologist noticed the hornets swarming around their pursuers, drawn to the movement and the scent of fear. In a desperate gamble, Indy shouted, "Split up! Use the smoke!"
The friends scattered, their lanterns casting a confusing maze of smoke. Kenji's henchmen stumbled, their cries of pain piercing the air as the hornets descended upon them, their stings merciless. Kenji, his face a mask of rage, remained unfazed, his eyes never leaving Indy's. The archaeologist knew they had to act fast. He led his companions in a daring leap over a nearby stone wall, the ancient key clutched tightly in Isabella's hand. As they landed safely on the other side, they watched in horror as the swarm engulfed the pursuers, their screams drowned by the relentless buzzing. Kenji, the sole survivor, retreated into the fog of battle, his mission failed but his determination unshaken.
The adventurers exchanged a grim look, the gravity of their situation sinking in. They had escaped unscathed, but the danger had only just begun. The path ahead was fraught with peril, and the fate of the Honjō Masamune hung in the balance. With the sun now fully risen, they set their sights on the volcanic region whispered about in the scroll's verses, the next stage of their quest beckoning them forward. The adventure had taken a darker turn, but Indiana Jones and his intrepid team were not easily deterred. They had the key, and with it, the hope of unlocking the secrets of Japan's greatest swordsmith.
"In twilight's hush, where ancient stones do sleep, a sentinel of coils, a guardian deep, with eyes that pierce the heart of night, guards secrets hidden from the light," Isabella murmured, her eyes scanning the horizon as the setting sun painted the sky in a palette of fiery oranges and deep purples. The cryptic words of the scroll had led them to the outskirts of Kyoto, to the foot of a dormant volcano. The silhouette of a crumbling temple, reclaimed by nature, stood proudly against the backdrop of the mountain's fiery past. "It must be here," she said with certainty, her voice barely audible above the whisper of the evening breeze.
Indy nodded, his gaze fixed on the ancient structure. "The sentinel with eyes that pierce the night… Could it be referring to a dragon statue within the temple?"
Sallah looked skeptical. "But how will we find it in the dark?"
Short Round grinned, pulling out a flashlight from his pocket. "I got us covered, Dr. Jones."
Indiana patted the young man's shoulder. "Good thinking, Shorty." He turned to Isabella. "Let's move. Time is not on our side."
"Careful," Indiana warned as they approached the shadowy entrance of the ancient temple, the dragon's eyes gleaming ominously in the dim light. "These places are often rigged with traps."
"Got it, Dr. Jones," Short Round called back, his flashlight beam dancing over the intricate stone carvings that adorned the walls.
They moved cautiously, their footsteps echoing through the silent halls. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and the whispers of the past. Sallah's keen eyes spotted the first trap—a pit filled with spikes, cleverly concealed by a rotting wooden floorboard. "Look out!" he shouted, and the group leaped aside just in time.
"Thanks, Sallah," Isabella said, her breath ragged with excitement.
They encountered more traps—poison darts shooting from the walls, a floor that gave way to reveal a pool of acid, and a ceiling rigged to collapse. Each time, they worked together, using their wits and reflexes to stay one step ahead of the ancient protections.
"We're getting closer," Indy murmured, his gaze on the map. "The dragon statue should be in the inner sanctum."
"And the guardian deep," Sallah added, his eyes on the shadows that danced with the light of their torches.
As they navigated the treacherous path, the whispers grew louder, the air charged with an ancient power that seemed to hum through the very stones. They could feel the presence of the Honjō Masamune, its essence a beacon drawing them forward.
Finally, they reached the chamber where the dragon statue resides.
Indiana Jones stepped into the chamber, his eyes drawn to the massive dragon statue that dominated the space. Its eyes, made of polished obsidian, gleamed in the flickering torchlight, seemingly alive with ancient wisdom. "This must be the guardian," he murmured.
Isabella nodded, her eyes widening. "But look, it's hollow."
Indy approached the statue, his hands tracing the intricate carvings. He felt a slight vibration, a hint of something hidden within. "Give me a hand, Sallah," he said, gripping the base of the statue.
Together, they pried it open, the stone groaning with the weight of centuries. Inside, nestled in a velvet-lined compartment, lay a second key, its metal gleaming with the promise of secrets yet to be unlocked.
"We've found it," Indy exclaimed, his voice echoing through the chamber.
Indy's triumph was short-lived as a low hissing filled the chamber, sending a cold shiver down his spine. He looked up to find a monstrous anaconda, its scales shimmering in the torchlight, coiled around the pedestal where the dragon statue had once stood guard. "Not again," he muttered, his fear of snakes bubbling to the surface. The snake's eyes locked onto him, unblinking and menacing. "Indy, what do we do?" Short Round's voice trembled, his flashlight shaking in his hand.
"Hold still, Indy!" Dr. Johansson called out, her voice steady amidst the chaos.
Indy's eyes darted from the snake to his friends, his mind racing. "What do we do, Bella?"
"The key!" she exclaimed, her gaze fixed on the gleaming metal in his hand. "It's the key to the next puzzle!"
Indy nodded, his heart pounding in his chest as the anaconda lunged. He dove to the side, the snake's fangs snapping shut mere inches from his face. Sallah stepped forward, his eyes never leaving the serpent as he recited an ancient incantation, his hand holding a small bag of dust.
"Now, Sallah!" Isabella shouted.
With a swift motion, Sallah tossed the dust into the snake's eyes, momentarily blinding it. The creature recoiled with a furious hiss, giving Indy the opening he needed. He rolled away from the snake and sprinted toward the exit, the key clutched in his fist.
Short Round, ever the quick-thinker, grabbed a torch from the wall and hurled it at the snake, setting its tail ablaze. The anaconda writhed in pain, its attention diverted.
"Let's go!" Indy yelled, adrenaline coursing through his veins.
"Move!" Indy shouted, the sizzling sound of the anaconda's burning tail ringing in their ears. They sprinted through the temple, the snake's hissing pursuit growing louder with each passing second. The floor grew slick with the creature's venom, making their footing precarious. "This way!" Sallah pointed to a chamber ahead, and they dashed in, the snake slithering relentlessly behind them. Inside, they found themselves at the edge of the same pool of acid they had so narrowly avoided earlier. The creature's hisses grew more furious as it approached the room's entrance.
"Go!" Indy bellowed, pushing his friends onto the bridge. As the last of them reached the other side, the snake slammed into the stone barrier, its body writhing in fury. The bridge began to retract, and the snake lunged again, its eyes on the prize.
"Indy, now!" Short Round yelled, his eyes wide with terror.
With a grim nod, Indiana Jones stepped onto the bridge. The snake's massive head shot out, jaws gaping, only to be met with the crushing weight of the stone slab as the bridge disappeared beneath it. The anaconda's tail slipped over the edge, and with a final, agonized screech, it plummeted into the pool of acid, its body dissolving into a hissing, bubbling mess.
"Let's not do that again," Indy said, wiping sweat from his brow.
"Agreed," Sallah said with a shaky laugh.
As Indiana Jones clutched the second key, the sound of a heavy footstep echoed through the chamber. Kenji emerged from the shadows, his eyes a cold, unblinking void. The room grew tense, the air thick with the promise of violence. The adventurers braced themselves, but before anyone could speak, Kenji struck. His fist connected with Indy's jaw with the force of a hammer, and the archaeologist crumpled to the ground, unconscious. The key slipped from his grasp, clattering on the stone floor. Kenji bent down, his eyes gleaming with victory, and retrieved the precious artifact. Without a word, he turned and disappeared into the labyrinth of the temple, leaving Isabella, Sallah, and Short Round staring in shock at their fallen comrade.
Indiana Jones groaned as consciousness returned, his head pounding in rhythm with his racing heart. He blinked, the world coming into focus as he took in the opulent surroundings of the mansion. "Where are we?" he rasped, his voice thick with pain.
"Welcome to my humble abode," a suave voice replied. Hiroshi Tanaka emerged from the shadows, his smile more predatory than welcoming. "I've been eager to make your acquaintance, Dr. Jones."
Isabella's voice was tight with anger. "What have you done to him?"
Tanaka waved a hand dismissively. "Just a little persuasion. Nothing permanent." He gestured to the room around them, filled with artifacts that gleamed under the soft glow of chandeliers. "You must forgive Kenji. He doesn't speak. But he is very dutiful." Jones still numb from the blow he received said, "Perhaps a little too dutiful. If you wanted to invite me into your home, all you had to do was ask."
"Ah, but you see, Dr. Jones," Tanaka began, his smile never wavering, "I am a collector of history, much like yourself. However, our methods differ. You seek to preserve, while I seek to acquire. Both noble pursuits, wouldn't you say?"
Indiana glared at him, his jaw clenched. "Looting is not noble. It's theft and desecration."
Tanaka chuckled, a sound like shifting sands. "A harsh accusation, coming from one who thrives on the thrill of discovery. Tell me, do you not crave the power of knowing secrets lost to time?"
"I crave knowledge, not power," Indy retorted, his eyes scanning the room.
"Ah, but knowledge is power," Tanaka said, his gaze lingering on the Honjō Masamune displayed on the far wall. "And with the Honjō Masamune, I shall write the next chapter of history."
"The sword is a piece of Japan's soul," Isabella interjected, her voice firm. "It belongs in a museum, not in the hands of a man who would exploit it."
Tanaka's smile grew colder. "A museum is but a prison for the past. I will give it new life, new purpose."
"You're wrong," Indy said, pushing himself to his feet, despite the ache in his jaw. "The sword is a testament to the spirit of its creator, Gorō Nyūdō Masamune. It's not a tool for your personal ambition."
"Your sentiment is touching, but misguided," Tanaka said, his voice like a silk-wrapped dagger. "Masamune's spirit is long gone. The sword is just metal, waiting for a worthy master to wield it. And that master is me."
"You're not worthy," Sallah growled, his eyes flashing with defiance.
Tanaka chuckled. "We shall see, won't we?"
"But we need the third clue to complete the puzzle," Indy said, his eyes never leaving Tanaka's. "Where is it?"
Tanaka's smile grew smug. "Ah, the final piece of the riddle. You need not worry about that, Dr. Jones. I have already uncovered its location."
"Where?" Isabella demanded, her voice tight with urgency.
"Mount Fuji," Indy murmured, the realization dawning in his eyes. "The final resting place of the Honjō Masamune."
Tanaka nodded, his smile widening. "Indeed. The whispered truth lies at the summit, where the fiery whispers of its volcanic past give way to the mystic keep. The key is hidden there, waiting for one with the eyes to see."
"And you think you're that person?" Sallah challenged, his hand resting protectively on Isabella's shoulder.
Tanaka stepped closer, his gaze intense. "I know I am. But I'm willing to share the glory… if you help me find it."
Indy's eyes narrowed. "We're not in this for glory," he said firmly. "We're here to ensure the sword's legacy remains intact."
"Ah, but legacies are malleable," Tanaka countered.
"The whispers of the ancients lead us to the fiery embrace of Fujisan," Tanaka declared, his eyes gleaming with greed as they stood at the base of the mighty volcano. "The Honjō Masamune awaits within." With Kenji at his side, the collector began to recite an incantation in a language lost to time, his words weaving a spell that seemed to resonate with the very earth beneath their feet. The ground trembled, and a hidden path revealed itself, leading to a cave that had remained untouched by the ravages of time. As they descended into the darkness, the air grew thick with anticipation. The flaming torches cast flickering shadows on the walls, the whispers of the volcano's fiery past a stark reminder of the power that lay ahead.
"Here," Tanaka announced, his voice echoing through the cavernous space. "The mystic keep."
The adventurers exchanged wary glances, the gravity of their quest weighing heavily upon them. Together, they approached the ancient pedestal at the center of the chamber, where the sword lay, untouched by the centuries. Its blade gleamed with an otherworldly light, the embodiment of Masamune's unparalleled craftsmanship. The third key, a perfect fit, was nestled in a niche beside it.
Indiana Jones watched with a mix of horror and fascination as Tanaka's fingers brushed against the Honjō Masamune. The sword hummed with an eerie energy, resonating with the very core of the volcano. "What have you done?" he shouted as the ground began to tremble violently.
Tanaka's smile was one of mad triumph. "I have claimed the power of Masamune," he said, his voice shaking with the tremors.
"Fool," Sallah murmured, his eyes wide with fear. "The sword is not meant to be wielded by the unworthy."
The tremors grew stronger, and a deafening roar filled the chamber. "The volcano," Isabella gasped. "It's about to erupt!"
As the earth heaved beneath them, Tanaka's eyes grew cold. "Kenji," he barked. "Ensure our friends here do not leave this mountain alive." Tanaka taking the Honjō Masamune with him.
Short Round unleashed a barrage of marbles at the thug advancing on them. The man slipped, his arms flailing as he tumbled backward into the fiery abyss, his screams swallowed by the hungry maw of the volcano. The distraction was all they needed. With a swift kick, Indy sent another thug stumbling into the lava, the intense heat searing the air around them. The remaining henchmen, their faces a mix of shock and fear, drew their weapons, but not before Sallah and Isabella had managed to free themselves. The chamber erupted into a flurry of fists and steel as the four friends faced off against Tanaka's men. Swords clashed and fists flew, the ancient echoes of battles long past resonating through the volcanic chamber.
Indiana Jones, Dr. Johansson, Sallah, and Short Round sprinted through the collapsing cavern, the fiery maw of Mount Fuji's wrath at their heels. As they burst into the cool night air, the sound of the volcano's fury receded, only to be replaced by the clang of steel and the grunts of combat. Kenji, his eyes burning with silent rage, had emerged from the cave, blocking their path. "Indy, watch out!" Short Round yelled as Kenji lunged at them.
"I've got this," Indy said, his voice firm. He stepped forward, squaring off against the towering foe.
Indiana Jones and Kenji circled each other, the air crackling with tension. Indy knew that Kenji's silent loyalty to Tanaka was as much a weapon as his formidable size. With a roar, Kenji charged, his fists like sledgehammers. Indy dodged and weaved, his whip a blur as it cracked and danced around Kenji's body, seeking purchase. Each blow Kenji threw was met with a swift counter from Indy's fists. Despite his smaller stature, Indy's years of experience and unmatched agility kept him a step ahead. But Kenji was relentless, his powerful swings sending clouds of ash into the night sky.
Just as Kenji's next swing threatened to connect with Indiana's skull, a fiery projectile shot from the volcano's mouth, a lava bomb that seemed to have taken a page straight from a cartoon. It soared through the air, a fiery comet aimed directly at the brutish guard. With a sudden, comical twist of fate, the lava bomb slammed into Kenji, enveloping him in a fiery embrace. The behemoth's roar of anger was abruptly silenced as he disappeared beneath the molten rock, leaving only his charred silhouette etched against the night sky. The explosion of heat and light washed over the remaining combatants, forcing them to shield their eyes for a brief moment. When they looked again, Kenji was gone, claimed by the very mountain he had sought to conquer. The battlefield grew eerily still, the only sound the distant rumble of the volcano's fury. Indy, his heart racing, took a moment to catch his breath before turning back to the others.
Tanaka emerged from the volcanic fog, the Honjō Masamune gleaming in his grasp, a twisted smile playing on his lips. "Dr. Jones," he sneered, the earth trembling beneath them. "You dare stand between me and destiny?"
Indy gripped the katana of one of Tanaka's fallen thugs, his eyes locked with the mad collector's. "The sword is not meant to be used as a weapon of power," he said, his voice steady despite the trembling ground.
"And who are you to decide its fate?" Tanaka spat, raising the Masamune.
The two men charged at each other, their swords clashing in a fiery dance of steel and fury. The volcano's tremors grew more intense, sending showers of ash into the air. The sound of their blades ringing out like a symphony of ancient battles, each strike and parry echoing through the night. Tanaka, fueled by his obsession, was a formidable opponent, but Indiana Jones, driven by his unyielding commitment to preserve the past, matched him blow for blow. The air grew thick with the scent of sulfur and the taste of ash as they dueled, the fate of the legendary sword hanging in the balance.
The battle grew fiercer, the air thick with ash and the acrid scent of impending doom. Tanaka's superior strength began to overwhelm Indiana, and with a triumphant roar, he disarmed the archaeologist, sending his sword skittering across the rocky ground. "It ends here," Tanaka gloated, raising the Honjō Masamune for the final blow. But Indiana Jones was not so easily defeated. With a flick of his wrist, his bullwhip unfurled like a serpent, wrapping around the sword's hilt. As Tanaka stumbled, thrown off balance by the sudden loss of his weapon, Indy yanked the whip back with all his might. The Honjō Masamune arced through the air, landing with a thud at his feet.
"You cannot wield the power of Masamune," Indy said, his voice a thunderclap amidst the volcano's fury. "It is not yours for the taking."
With a snarl, Tanaka dove for the sword, but the earth beneath him opened up, swallowing him whole. He clung to the sword, his eyes wide with terror as the lava flow claimed him, his greedy grasp loosening. The volcano's roar grew deafening, and the ground beneath them shuddered violently.
"Indy, We're coming for you!" Short Round's voice cut through the deafening roar of the volcano as the helicopter hovered precariously above the ever-widening lava flow. Indiana Jones, the Honjō Masamune in hand, sprinted toward the edge of the fiery abyss, his eyes never leaving the rope that dangled just within his reach. With a mighty leap, he grasped it, feeling the intense heat of the lava sear his fingertips. Dr. Johansson and Sallah pulled with all their might from within the safety of the chopper, their expressions a mix of fear and determination. As the lava inched closer, Indy clung to the helicopter, his grip slipping. "Hold on to your potatoes, Indy!" Short Round shouted over the engine's whine. The archaeologist's muscles screamed in protest, but he refused to let go. With a final, desperate heave, they hauled him into the air, the sword's blade slicing through the fiery curtain below. As the lava swallowed the last of Tanaka's greed, the volcano's fury seemed to abate, its fiery breath retreating into the bowels of the earth. The helicopter soared away from the mountain, the legendary Honjō Masamune now secure in their possession, its journey to be continued by those who respected its legacy rather than sought to control it.
As the dust settled on the once fiery slopes of Mount Fuji, the helicopter touched down in the quiet streets of Tokyo. With a heavy heart, Indiana Jones handed the Honjō Masamune to the waiting officials, who treated the blade with the reverence it deserved. "It's where it belongs," he murmured to Dr. Johansson, who nodded solemnly. As they boarded the plane home, the weight of their adventure felt like a million tons lifted from their shoulders.
"Well, Indy," Sallah said with a tired smile, "another treasure saved from the clutches of greed."
"Not just saved," Isabella corrected, her eyes gleaming with pride. "Returned to its rightful place in history."
Short Round, his youthful exuberance undimmed, grinned. "And we're still breathing! That's a plus!"
Indy chuckled, his gaze lingering on the sword's gleaming blade through the plane's window. "The legacy of Masamune lives on," he said, his voice filled with a quiet satisfaction. "And we were a part of it."
The engines roared to life, and the aircraft began to ascend, leaving the land of the rising sun behind them. Yet, as the Honjō Masamune was returned to its place of honor, the whispers of its past and the echoes of their adventure remained, a reminder of the boundless potential of history's untold stories, waiting for the next brave souls to seek them out.

Video Game Idea: Gangan Clash! Dreamscape Rumble
An HD-2D sprite fighting game idea featuring characters from Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist and Akame ga Kill! along with the original characters from my Gangan Impact! Idea.
The story would take place in an "Alternate Universe" where the four worlds coexist as four seperate nations with fighters from the four nations traveling to a mysterious continent in the middle of the ocean and converge in a battle to decide the fate of the world with the heroes facing each other while fighting off the villains like Medusa, Bradley and Honest, who each have their own wicked plans for the island and the kingdoms.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the fighters are actually inside a dream world called Dreamrealm, which explains why canonically deceased characters appear in the story, although the living characters are unaware of what happened in the waking world due to events and their memories being altered.
(Although some facts remain true in the Dreamscape World like in the Waking World such as Soul Eater becoming a Death Scythe, Winry knowing Scar killed her parents and Mine becoming Tatsumi's girlfriend.)
The main Antagonist is Dreamscape, the mastermind seeking to control the four worlds through the dream world he crafted.

Yeah, that 'murder your families to prove your loyalty' bit is Clavell spinning forward an incident where Nobunaga Oda supposedly ordered Tokugawa Ieyasu (i.e. Shogun's Toranaga) to have Ieyasu's son Nobuyasu (who is also Nobunaga's son-in-law) and Nobuyasu's mother and Ieyasu's then-current wife Tsukiyama killed for plotting with the Takeda against Nobunaga, in 1579 (some 20 years before when Shogun is supposedly set).
Turns out that this incident probably didn't happen as presented in early Tokugawa-era sources.
TL;DR: Interpreting Sengoku-era sources current to the incident, what was more likely to have happened was that Nobuyasu and his mother was plotting a coup against Ieyasu. Nobunaga's participation, at most, is giving permission for Ieyasu to do what he wants in dealing with a matter internal to the Tokugawa clan. Later early-Tokugawa sources basically edited their recounting of this incident to make Ieyasu appear pure and blameless in this incident.
Commenting on a different bit on this exchange about Clavell. Was the one 'good' Chinese person the Chinese-American atomic weapons scientist who is defecting to the PRC in Noble House or is there another one? I mean at least Clavell was cognizant of the general state of American racism that he wrote as the motivation for that character's defection (as I recall, he was redlined out of buying a house in a nice neighborhood), but he still wrote him as a traitor, even as Clavell justifies the treason as America's fault. So still fair to say he still wrote ALL of his Chinese characters negatively.
thoughts on shogun? (the 2024 series and/or the book)
I like both very much, with the caveat that James Clavell was a dyed-in-the-wool Orientalist and so are his books. Granted, it’s from a position of admiration and fascination, and I think there’s something admirable about the fact that someone with his experiences didn’t come away from them with a deep racial animus, but he had some pretty strong opinions about the inherent cultural characteristics of The West and The East that don’t always come from a healthy place or end up there either.

Falling
You can find all other IkeSen works of mine here or become a Patron of mine! NOTES: This was a commission for @psychedelicaya! Thank you so much! Slight warning of mild reference to disturbing content.
She made herself known, and that was difficult to do. He pulled long enough hours that eventually all of the residents blurred together (except for the ones that made stupid mistakes--those he remembered and kept away from his patients). Dr. Ieyasu Tokugawa didn't have time to play professor to the residents. Never mind that he’d been one himself recently; he had obligations of a caregiver, and it was the responsibility of the students to learn at a safe, comfortable distance.
But she stood out immediately.
Part of it was her manner. Ieyasu had plenty of nurses and doctors around that knew how to set others at ease. He’d never mastered that himself. His specialty was cardiology, not people. But every time they wheeled someone from the ER into his wing, her at their side, the patients were calm and collected, no matter the situation.
“Dr. Tokugawa is great,” she assured them. He paused to snap on his gloves and soak in the sound of her voice. He’d never caught her last name. One of the other techs called her ‘Aya’, so Ieyasu assumed that was her name, but it felt so unprofessional to refer to her by it that he stayed from calling her anything at all. “He’ll take care of you.”
“Awful young, isn’t he?”
Ieyasu pretended he didn't hear that. Aya pressed on, comforting and warm. “He’s the best doctor in the wing. You’re in great hands.”
He didn't know how to thank her for the compliment. She liked coffee, so one day on an impulse he bought a gold thermos and tucked it onto the residents station in the ER with a simple note reading only her name. The next day he heard a knock on his office door.
Aya waved the thermos at him. “Was this you?”
Ieyasu stared, nonplussed. “How did you know?”
“Mr. Date said it looked like your handwriting.”
Of course. His best friend and administrator had sold him out. Uncertain where to go from there, Ieyasu quickly answered, “It was a sign of appreciation for your compliment, as well as an acknowledgement of your passable efforts with the patients. Plus, your other thermos is tacky.”
She smiled and his heart froze in his throat. How unfair that expression was! It was almost as if the sunshine came streaming in through the ceiling and hovered around her. How did she have the power to transform the whole hallway? “Yellow is my favorite color. Thanks.”
Ieyasu couldn’t think of anything to say other than, “Mine too. You’re welcome.”
---
Months passed. Her smile became something of a fixture in his life. No matter the rain or storm or sleet, she appeared for her long hours and tense shifts with a smile on her face and the hard determination that so many others lacked. Sometimes she spotted him in the hallways and waved her thermos, eyes sparkling. Ieyasu couldn’t decide if he hated or loved that she kept it on her.
“You’re sweet on her.” Masamune grinned over a late night feast at the local diner, both of them still in their work clothes and not entirely up to the task of going home and cooking dinner.
“Don’t be foolish,” Ieyasu snapped, spearing a potato wedge a little too forcefully. “She’s just a resident. If she doesn’t have a breakdown by the end of the month, I’ll be somewhat surprised.”
“You bought her a present.”
“It was unfair of me not to acknowledge the compliment. Besides. Anything more than that is unprofessional.”
Masamune looked every inch the meme of the smug cat surrounded by knives, but he tucked into his eggs benedict and didn't say anything more.
---
Ieyasu was walking back to his office next week when he heard the soft huff of a sob in the corner. He slowed, mentally calculating his path. Dealing with a crying patient was the last thing he did well--but there was no other way. Whoever they were, they were lingering in the same little cubby space with the vending machines, and his feet would carry him straight past them. Flipping open a folder, he pretended to be in deep thought and strode purposefully by--
Only to halt in his steps.
“Aya?” He asked, daring to say her name aloud for the first time. She started, wiping her eyes.
“Dr. Tokugawa.” Her smile was weak. “Sorry. I thought--I thought you went home for the day.”
“Paperwork,” he answered. Did he ask? Did he dare? She wrapped her arms around herself, smelling of the peppermint oil they sometimes slathered in the ER when a horrid stench permeated the halls. “What--is something--are you okay?”
“I--” Desperately her eyes roved everywhere but him, welling with tears again. “Sorry. We had a burn victim. Baby.”
Oh.
Ieyasu stood there a moment longer, flipping the folder uncertainly in his hand before motioning to her. “Come with me.”
“Dr. Tokugawa…?”
“Ieyasu,” he corrected, uncomfortable in the moment, “Just Ieyasu. Come with me.”
Together they dipped into his cramped office. He turned on the comforting yellow light and motioned a chair, which she sat on, before he flipped on a white noise machine by the doorway.
“Go on.”
She stared blearily at him. “What?”
“It’s a tough job,” he murmured. “Go on. You’re allowed to cry.”
As if permission were what she wanted all along, Aya burst into sobs. He just sat there with her, rubbing her back in slow circles and letting her mourn a child she’d barely known.
---
After that, things were… different.
It started when she left a handwritten note in his office, thanking him for letting her cry it out. Ieyasu didn't know what to do other than leave a small packet of good coffee for her in the residents office. Then it turned into them having small conversations in the hallway and exchanging music recommendations. Ieyasu even went so far as to burn her a CD.
“Is this a mix tape?” She asked, the laughter spilling from those pretty lips. Ieyasu wondered what they tasted like for only a second.
“Look, you don’t have to take it if you don’t want to.”
“No. No, no. I do.” Aya clutched it to her chest and smiled at him. “I’m just feeling a bit like a teenager right now.”
He was too, but he wasn’t entirely sure if it was for the same reasons, so he kept it to himself. Instead he watched her flit through the ER in whatever brief glimpses he was allowed. She teased Dr. Sarutobi and roasted Dr. Sanada with the best of them. When she split pizzas with the other residents, she would pop by and give him a spare slice, sure to give him that smile and light up his office just by existing. He didn't care for pizza (not much, at least), but her--
It was a dangerous thought, but he couldn’t help but entertain it.
One cold December night he was on his way back to the garage when he saw her standing at the bus station, hands tucked into her pockets and breath circling skyward. Thick flakes tumbled around her. Ieyasu wondered if they sold that picture on a postcard.
“Hi.”
She blinked up at him and smiled. “Hi.”
“The bus stopped running an hour ago.”
“Did it?” Aya frowned and reached for her phone. “I thought I read it right…”
“I thought you had a car.”
“I do. It’s in the shop. I’ve never ridden the bus before.”
Ieyasu thought over his options for a half-second before motioning for her to follow him. “I’ll drive you home.”
“I wouldn’t want to impose--”
“It’s no trouble.”
She fell into step beside him, their arms brushing and sending electric sparks shooting all over his body. God. How could he be cold with her there? They stepped into the garage and he unlocked his modest Honda, both of them slipping into the frigid interior.
“God.” She sniffed. “It’s freezing.”
Something born from habit of being around Masamune kicked in. Without thinking, Ieyasu offered, “Want to get hot chocolate?”
“Yeah! That sounds great.”
They both paused as if realizing what had happened, Ieyasu with the keys barely in the ignition. It was another beat before he started the car. What was he doing? But--but she’d said yes, and something in his stupid, stupid heart soared.
He drove them over to the twenty-four hour Starbucks. The snow was falling fast, drifting up against the curb, and together they bundled inside and ordered their twin hot chocolates. Something about it felt so natural that Ieyasu almost forgot his reservations, his position, all of the duties that stood between the two of them. It was just her, her, her, Aya, this lovely woman who graced him with her time and smile. She talked about grad school and residency and he offered her advice, their knees nested together as they huddled up by the window.
“It’s getting late, isn’t it?” She laughed, tossing her long-ago drained cup into the trash. “What time is it, even?”
Ieyasu checked his watch. “Nearly two am.”
“We’re probably bothering the staff here.”
The very real possibility he was bothering her struck fear in his heart. “I should get you home.”
But--much to his surprise--Aya frowned at that. “Aw. Are you sure? We could do a sortie around the block and then go, just so we can get into the snow.”
“Fine.”
She ordered a second hot chocolate and they scooted around in drifts on the sidewalk. Before he had the sense to feel what was coming, Aya hopped to the nearest car and packed a snowball from the hood. “Heads up!”
“What the--” An instinct born of being around Masamune kicked in; Ieyasu barely dodged the ball and watched it smack harmlessly into the Starbucks.
Oh no. This was war. Without a second thought he dove for his car, loading up ammunition and pelting her. She screamed and raced around the parking lot, her infectious laughter echoing through the night. Back and forth they went, snow flying and loading in his hair and hers, the thick flakes replenishing their supply almost as fast as they used it--and then she slipped on the pavement.
“Are you ok?” Ieyasu raced to her as fast as he dared on the slick ground. She was smiling still, just rubbing her hip and shaking her head. “Let me check you over.”
“I’m fine, I’m fine! I promise.” She blinked at him, her eyelashes dusted with flakes and her smile as radiant as the white winter around her, her cheeks pale from the frost. God. His heart beat so loud in his chest that he wondered if she might hear him.
“You swear?” He asked.
Aya’s smile faded. And it was a second--only a split second--where she cast her eyes to his mouth.
He took the cue.
She tasted like snow and chocolate and whipped cream and the sunlight she so often was. He pulled away and she whispered a faint uh uh, dragging him back in by the collar and kissing him right back. All of his fears and obligations melted away in her radiance, the soft drift of flakes around him forgotten. Ieyasu curled his whole body around hers and gave her everything she wanted.
It was a long, long time before they broke apart again. Her smile was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
“Again?” She asked.
“You’re greedy,” he responded, and leaned in once more.

What do you like the most about Mihotose? I’m thinking about buying it but haven’t decided.
omg i get to talk about mihotose Prompted for once thats epic
short answer: araki hirofumi as nikkari aoe ☆
nikkari is my favourite sword, but i was introduced to tkrb via toumyu and so my basis for a lot of the characters is therefore their myu interpretations. if nenmatsu shows had main characters srs17's would be nikkari, and srs17 was my first proper myu, which explains why i attached to him so strongly, and hence why mihotose, nikkari and araki's first myu, is my favourite. araki really puts everything into nikkari and has given him so much depth, even if nikkari is actually fairly subtle and never so open about what hes feeling (as character would dictate)
tl;dr my favourite part about mihotose is nikkari bc hes my favourite character lol
spoilers below about the other things i like about mihotose but if you follow me ive talked about it so much anyway. if you do end up buying it perhaps something to read for further appreciation after watching
besides “my favourite character’s in it” mihotose is pretty different to the stories that preceded it, atsukashiyama and bakuten, because its not about “preventing changes to history before they happen” but “dealing with the fallout after history has already been changed.” its not a one and done, kill the enemies who are trying to make changes (not that that was all atsukashiyama and bakuten were, but that was the basics), its the long term sustained effort over decades to step in the right spots and let everything play out as its meant to be, even if it hurts to stand back and watch it happen. the history retrograde army is barely in it, and even though the big bad at the climax is a kebiishi, the kebiishi was never what was being led up to. after the kebiishi fight it cuts to ieyasu’s deathscene, which has been the point all along - the reassurance that they were successful, that theyve led history on its correct course, and delivered ieyasu safely to his final destination. this style of story is pretty refreshing, at least to me. its quiet, and maybe not so exciting, and perhaps has an atmosphere of sleepiness around it (its about a lullaby after all). it gives me a feeling of some sort of deepseated sadness that it knows is coming, a sort of melancholy for what it knows it will meet at the end of the road, which obviously is the story, but its the emotion i associate with it.
because of its events unfolding over a long period of time, the characters have a long time to become involved in them, get close to them, be affected by them, and come around to new ways of thinking. again, unlike atsukashiyama and bakuten (which i will continue to use as comparisons because it was after watching mihotose after those two that i really started to appreciate mihotose’s different way of doing things) i feel every character gained something from the mission. for example, horikawa, izuminokami, kogitsunemaru, and mikazuki all took somewhat of a backseat in their shows and were more for support for the main pairs. not to say this is a bad thing or that they did not get a focus at all but i like that in mihotose, though main character status rests most firmly on ishikirimaru, all of them have struggles and all of them learn something.
i also really like the characters chosen for this story. related to the last point but i think that the selection of this particular group of swords to deal with this particular mission, that is, raising the child that would become tokugawa ieyasu, is something really special. these swords have very little in common; theyre not like sanjou or the shinsengumi with established ties or history together, with kashuu or hachisuka as outsiders learning how to interact with them. theyre all separate with different backgrounds, a unit completely out of left field, and yet the characters’ themes still all come together really beautifully to contrast against each other. nikkari and ishikirimaru, for example, contrast due to their differences in divinity; nikkari and monoyoshi on being wakizashi centred around smiles. individually, i think each sword ends up with some emotional stake tied to the mission, either as written in history like monoyoshi or forged through time like ookurikara. so i feel theyre less motivated by abstract notions of “protecting history” and more because they genuinely do care about these humans, and have grown to love them.
i Hope this was somewhat helpful, though i Suspect it probably isnt. i enjoyed thinking about mihotose tho thank you

Oh man Age of Samurai! I loved it, but it feels like a show that needs to be watched with someone who actually knows more and can provide more context. Also I was bothered by the proportion of "white dudes" lecturing on Japanese history versus "actually Japanese people" historians. And the one female Japanese historian who talked about Hideyoshi's wife? I legit would take a whole CLASS from her because she obviously had A WHOLE LOT MORE to talk about!!
I'm really curious about why they don't have actual Japanese historians on-screen. The showrunner claimed that the are Japanese historians advising behind the scenes, but why not put them on screen? Is there no translation budget?
And Ooooooooh Dr Kitagawa. That's one of the experts in the show I'm familiar with. She actually does teach classes about samurai ladies (I would love to attend too!!!!).
Nene was her university thesis, so no wonder they got her to talk about it. Have you read it? It's free to read. Link: https://open.library.ubc.ca/media/download/pdf/831/1.0092527/2
She also became a guest star in a podcast about samurai women: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Age-of-Lady-Samurai-ft-Tomoko-Kitagawa-Podcast/B09364X5KK
(Dr. Kitagawa is fine, but oh GOD the hosts... I don’t blame them, they both said they’re not big history buffs, so they probably just went along with the Netflix narrative, but UGH... If I have to hear “Ieyasu unified Japan” again...I will combust. The male host also repeated that “Nobunaga is a horrible person” again, but thankfully the female host said “No, I think everyone is just like that in that era”.)

Now that we’ve had the gala remix banner, the guaranteed scratcher summon, AND the 1000-day celebration banner, here’s how all of that worked out for me.
TL;DR: maybe the true 1000-day celebration was the ‘Error: Unable to connect to servers’ that we made along the way uwu
First off, I ended up having to spark for Summer Ieyasu, which kinda sucked, but it wasn’t really a huge deal in the long run. The only featured unit dupe I got along the way ended up being a single Summer Mitsuhide, so I didn’t feel as bad about summoning on day one than I expected I would, lol. But other than that, the second daily tenfold was a surprise break that got me Opera Karina, and then my third daily tenfold was another surprise break that got me Lapis [!!!]. I don’t think the fourth daily tenfold got me anything, and aside from the dupe S-Mitsuhide, the rest of the spark just consisted of a few more random dragon dupes I don’t need, including my millionth Freyja dupe, as well as a second copy of Lapis [???].
Seriously though, I did an entire goddamn spark on Lapis’ banner for her and I had to get Gala Poseidon at the end because I didn’t get EITHER of them. How did I get not just my first copy of her, but also my first dupe of her, in this random banner? lol. At least this makes up for not getting Summer Mym after doing some desperation pulls on it.
I don’t remember exactly how many summons I had left after that, but I know it was enough to spark on the 1000-day banner as well if I also used most of my diamantium I had saved up. And considering that the 1000-day banner ended up being really valuable, it was exactly the sort of ‘break glass in case of emergency back to back sparks’ situation that I’d been hoarding diamantium for.
The last day of the gala remix also gave us the guaranteed scratcher 5-star summon, but that was just a Gala Ranzal dupe so that was disappointing. I didn’t expect much from it, though, since I only had like a 20% chance to get anything new.
The 1000-day banner was a lot more exciting, since even though I had half of the featured units on it, I was missing more than half of the limited units that were available in general. The good thing was also that DY-Lily and V-Chelsea were probably the units I wanted most from the ones on the list I didn’t have, and they were both featured on the banner.
From what I remember, my free 100 summons got me Daikokuten, three Seimei dupes, and nothing else, so that was a bit depressing, lol. Then I spent some time deciding if it was worth it to finish the spark for Lily since it’d mean using basically me entire stash, which I’d have to rebuild before the holiday season comes around.
Then I spent 10 single summons to start the rest of the spark and I immediately got DY-Lily, so I guess that solved that problem, lmao.
Then I started being very stupid because of my string of good luck, and I decided to do all three pulls on the platinum summon even though I wouldn’t have enough left over to go back and finish the spark if I wanted to get someone like V-Chelsea. Anyway the platinum summons got me DY-Victor [at least he’s new, lol], a V-Addis dupe [I forgot that V-Chelsea wasn’t the only bow unit on the list . . . ], and my fourth fucking dupe of Seimei, lmao.
Then I kept being even more stupid and decided I’d just use the rest of my stash on the 1000-day banner in case I get some more good stuff from it, and since it lasts until the end of the month I could maybe get enough resources to finish the spark if I needed to.
And then the next 10-fold voucher I spent on the banner immediately got me V-Chelsea, so I guess that solved THAT problem too, lol. I think that was also where I got a dupe of Gozu Tennou.
I haven’t checked if all the limited units are sparkable on this banner even if they’re not featured, but even if they are, I really don’t think any of them interest me enough to spark, especially since I only had to spend 20 extra summons on top of the free 100 summons to get both DY-Lily and V-Chelsea. So it just doesn’t seem worth it. I’d rather stop while I’m ahead and save for the holiday season, in case I need to do multiple sparks there as well.
So basically my luck here was incredible, even though I shouldn’t have kept going with the platinum summons after I got Victor. But I can’t complain about getting Daikokuten, Lily, and Chelsea in less than half a spark. I’m not entirely sure if it’s even worth it to use stones on Daikokuten anymore now that Gala Jeanne exists, but it’s nice to have him. I’m also not sure how much I’ll actually use the new units I got, but at the very least it’s really convenient to have all of the 2020 Christmas units, and the 2021 Valentines unit, so if they get rerun over the holidays they won’t tempt me anymore.
Thankfully Summer Euden will be a welfare unit, since now I just want to save until at least the 3rd anniversary.
Also, now that I have Lapis, I guess my next dream summon target would be Faris, or maybe Saiga. I also want to get Summer Verica, but I’m hoping that we’ll get another free dream summon at some point that I can use on her. Other than them, there’s not actually many permanent units I want to get that I don’t have yet, so that’s a good problem to have, lol.
Also also, in barely related news, the wireless purple cat ear headphones I ordered got here today, so in general I’m in a very good mood >:3c

Level 34
The first thing you had done last night after getting home from your adventure was unblocked Masamune. What were the actual odds of something like that happening, you wondered. Sure, you had known the people from Team Kasugayama, but that was because it was a group of friends who had invited their mutual friends to play. Meeting someone in person that you’d only ever encountered in an online game had to be almost entirely unheard of. With a smile on your face, you headed off to bed, you had to be at work early tomorrow, and you desperately needed to avoid Sasuke and Yukimura for as long as possible.
Fortunately, your instinct had been correct. The extra fifteen minutes had guaranteed you a spot on the early shuttle from the garage to work in near silence. It was peaceful, especially with the rain, and you were hoping for the day to stay that way.
It wasn’t busy in the lab, which meant you had time to fine-tune some of the more specific gating elements in your new test. With the day slowing down and the sample load dwindling, you put on your headphones and planned to hunker down at your desk until the end of the day.
Unfortunately, things don’t always go as planned; you were so concentrated on your work that when Yukimura and Sasuke swarmed your desk, you nearly jumped out of your seat. So close, you had been so close.
“What can I do for you, boys?” You asked, granting them a side-eye as you shifted your headphones.
“We need bodyguards.” Yukimura let out, exasperated.
“Oh? Not sure why you’re telling me unless you want me to know in case you disappear?” You teased.
“This isn’t funny. It’s one thing to win a tournament. It’s another to land a hit like that on Kenshin.” Yukimura sighed. “We have to live with your life decisions, you know!”
“Not my fault he couldn’t take a well-placed hit.” You shrugged, enjoying the way Yukimura bristled.
“It was indeed. Though I might need a place to lay low for a while if you don’t mind.” Sasuke complimented you.
“You guys are acting like Kenshin is going to off you IRL. Chill out or call the cops, my dudes.” You laughed as they both shared a look.
“If we disappear, can we count on you to call in detectives?” Yukimura asked.
“All I ask is you remember us fondly,” Sasuke said with a bow.
“You guys are ridiculous. Stop.” You snickered as you continued. “I’m honestly surprised, we’ve been playing around with my luck stat, so I didn’t know if our plan would work. I was sure Edo was going to have to come to bail me out.”
“I know your speed stat has no rival, but mixing that with high luck is a dangerous combination I’d never even entertained. Well done.” Sasuke congratulated you with a pat on the shoulder.
“Why are you congratulating her? Kenshin is going to make our lives a living hell online for the next month.” Yukimura pouted.
“You act as though we’re the only ones who will be affected.” Sasuke pointed out. “YN is going to have to watch out as well.”
“Me?” You balked. “Why me? Because I beat him?”
“Precisely.” Sasuke used the dramatic pause to push his glasses up his nose before continuing. “I would be prepared for a flurry of battle requests from him.”
“Oh, is that it?” You wondered aloud. “He’s been blocked for months, remember? Just like the rest of you? He couldn’t send me requests if he wanted to.”
“AUGH!” Yukimura burst out as he slumped forward. “This just got so much worse for us.”
“I’m sure you’ll be okay; you’re both resourceful.” You consoled, swiveling in your chair to try and hide your amusement.
“She acts like she’s never played with him before!” Yukimura whined.
“I did; he liked me.” You teased, “What have you been doing the past few months that you still haven’t managed to win him over?”
“Shut it!” Yukimura’s agitation grew the more prolonged the encounter drew on, and it was showing.
“Yanno, I was down here minding my own business, not talking to anyone until you two showed up.” You pointed out, turning your attention back towards your computer.
“What do you have there?” Sasuke asked, leaning in to take a look at your computer screen.
“Validation data.” You scooted your chair over to make more room for your now curious friends.
“Ah, is this your project with Dr. Tokugawa then?” Sasuke asked as Yukimura looked on, confused.
“Sort of? It’s been my project for a while. He’s thinking about running a study that needs specific testing.” You shuffled around your plots and pulled up some data on the computer. “It just sort of happened that I was already cooking something up.”
“Interesting. What a lucky twist of fate.” Sasuke pondered.
“How so?” You mused.
“It’s not every day that you get to work with a partner in real life and a video game like that.” Sasuke continued.
“I’m not following you at all there, buddy.” You grimaced, trying to put your finger on what Sasuke was trying to say.
“Dr. Tokugawa is Edo is he not?” Sasuke tilted his head as he asked you his question.
“I don’t know who Edo is.” The confusion was evident on your face. “What makes you say it’s Ieyasu?”
“Yoshimoto told us.” Yukimura chimed in. “Didn’t he tell you?”
“No. How does he even know that?” You could feel the grimace starting.
“They have, history, yes - history.” Sasuke struggled to explain it well.
“I’m surprised he didn’t tell you.” Yukimura pointed out nonchalantly.
“Maybe he doesn’t know it’s me?” You tried to offer, knowing full well you’ve potentially told your crush some super deep things.
“While that is possible, you will never have an answer unless you ask.” Sasuke offered.
“Why would I ask? What if he doesn’t know? That’ll just make things awkward.” You could feel the anxiety rising in your chest.
“Knowing you, it’s already going to be awkward now that you know.” Yukimura chuckled as he patted your shoulder. “You’re better off just asking before you explode.”
“Why, why did you have to go and make this more complicated?” You begrudged.
“I’m sure you would have found out eventually.” Sasuke offered.
“Is that your way of trying to make me feel better?” You sighed.
“No, I’m being realistic.” he fixed his glasses. “You’ve been working with him both here and online for a long time. You have feelings for the man in real life. It would have eventually come up.”
“I mean, yes, you’re right.” You glared at Sasuke, knowing he had a point. “At least that is more organic than whatever I’m about to go do now.”
“Oh, can I come to watch?” Yukimura asked, not even trying to hide the amusement in his voice.
“No.” You deadpanned.
“What if I say I’m there as emotional support?” Yukimura offered.
“Accept, we both now know you’re not?” You snickered, despite the turmoil in your brain.
“Fine, good luck and have fun, I guess?” Yukimura tossed his hand in the air. “C’mon, Sasuke, we need to get back to the floor.”
“Do we?” Sasuke wondered before checking his watch.
There wasn’t anything said after he raised his eyebrows above his frames, and both of them took off. Alone with your thoughts now, the panic started to kick into overdrive. What were you going to do? If Ieyasu was Edo, you had quite literally told the man you had a crush on him! Should you even approach this? What happened if he did find out somehow that you knew? Would he think you were using him, that it was a lie? Gods, you didn’t want that either. A string of curses flew out of your mouth, and you picked up your desk phone before you had a chance to change your mind.
“Hi, Dr. Tokugawa? Do you have a minute?”

Hey, I would like a match-up please. Very introverted and quiet(I will literally not interact with someone unless they showed explicit interest in me first) and will take a lot of time to open up. A huge animal lover, and a vet. Am also pretty passionate about science, especially biology, and I have a bit of a distaste for superstitious/preachy religious people. My hobbies include, besides the classic reading and playing video games, horseback riding and martial arts, even learned to use a gun.
Hi, there, dear!💎 thanx so much for the request! I hope you enjoy it and I hope you are staying safe and well!🌸 And soz for taking sooooooooooo long with it<3<3<3.
So I match you with................ Ieyasu
It was actually Masamune that pestered the shit out of you, that pulled you out of your shell to start interacting with the other warlords. Hideyoshi suspicions of you also lasted 0.2 seconds, as you were so shy and introverted around him he couldn’t help but turn into MOTHER MUST PROTEC CUTIE MODE. Between the two of them, you slowly but surely started opening up to the people around you and started to come to like it in your new home. You mostly kept to yourself not wanting to bother the people around you.
You spent most of your time reading in the castle’s archives. You were awestruck when Mitsunari first showed you the place, and it had quickly become your second home. You would spend hours and hours reading their vast amounts of books. You were shook at how advanced and spot on some of their scientific books were. You had a set routine, you would wake up eat breakfast and spend the whole day reading. You would often be so engrossed in your studies that you would fall asleep in the archives. That my friend is how Ieyasu came to slowly get used to you. He would go the archives late at night to pick up more books and drop off ones that he had just finished reading. He couldn’t help but roll his eyes at the sleeping princess. It seems you had yet again fallen asleep sprawled across one of the newest biology arrivals. He quietly walked up to you, to see what you were reading. His eyes widened in surprise, and he couldn’t help but give you a slither of a smile “Not as dumb as you look”. You were busy reading a new complex biology book, filled with advanced concepts and terminology. He carefully took off his hoari and gently draped it around your shoulders, careful not to wake you. He then spared you one more glance and left the room.
You always got excited whenever you saw Mitsunari or Ieyasu in the archives. The best was when the three of you would sit together and have tea while discussing different scientific topics. THB you were even shook when Mitsuhide would join in the conversation give some perspectives of his own
However, all that was thrown out of balance when one day Nobunaga announced that the oda forces were going to war and that you were to accompany them as lucky charm. You were honestly FREAKING OUT. Although all those complaints fell on deaf ears as Nobunaga’s word was basically the law. You were assigned to help out Ieyasu in the medical tent. You breathed a sigh of relief as at least you knew enough about biology and veterinary science to be of some help. Ieyasu showed you the ropes, teaching you all the ins and outs of patching up injured soldiers on the fly. At night, the two of you would go out and forage for plants to make some medicine. You low key impressed Yasu with your vast knowledge of plants, you were also a fast learner and pick up concepts quickly. By the end of the war, you were a natural at patching up soldiers and making medicines from scratch.
The two of you had come to enjoy the other company and to say Ieyasu was a little sad to not have an excuse to see you every day would be an understatement.
After the two of you arrived back home, Nobunaga announced that some people had their eye on you and were planning on kidnapping you. You were shocked and a little scared. Ieyasu suggested that you learn some self-defence, and Mitsuhide chimed in saying that he would teach you how to shoot. And that my friend is how you landed up at Mitsuhide’s manor with Yasu. Mitsuhide taught the two of you to shoot a rifle. Of course, Yasu was slightly more skilled than you, as he had been doing these lesson for a few weeks now. Although TBH you shocked both of them when you picked up the rifle, after observing Mitsuhide shoot, and shot the target dead in the centre. These rifles were slightly different from the guns back home, but the basics remained the same. This basically resulted in you and Ieyasu having a shoot off to see who the best student was.
After your friendly lil competition Ieyasu grabbed your hand all while being as red as a tomato and lead you to his manor. He then gave you some salve to help ease the stiffness and muscle pain from a full day worth of shooting. At this point, you had quickly come to sum up the porcupine. You knew he was actually a massive sweetie pie and that his contrary way of speaking was just a mask. After he handed you the medicine, he offered you some tea.
As the two of you were sipping on tea and chatting, he curiously asked you where you had learned to shoot, and that is when you also revealed that you knew martial arts. Ieyasu looked at you in awe, was there anything this woman couldn’t do.
He had long ago fallen in love with you, but he just didn’t know how to tell you
One day you were walking around the garden when you spotted Ieyasu crouched down near a big sakura tree. You slowly made your way over to where he was crouched down, curious, to see what he was doing. Your eyes widen in shock at the scene in front of you. A small grey cat was severely injured, it looked like someone had beaten the poor thing. You crouched down beside him, this wasn’t your first time patching up an injured animal, you are a vet after all. You looked into Yasu’s emerald eyes, they were red with unshed tears. It was clear he like you was a massive animal lover. You placed your hand on top of his and squeezed it. “Let’s go back to your manor, I know how to patch this lil guy up.” “Silly girl, its already too late, his injuries are too severe there is nothing we can do for him.”
You ran to the castle and grabbed the medical kit in your room, you then took the cat from Yasu’s arms and gently laid him down on the soft hand towel you had brought with. You had tools in your medical kit that Ieyasu has never seen before, he was shocked. You took out your stethoscope and listen to his little heartbeat, afterwards you gave him a quick once over to asses the damage. You started to patch him up. You wrapped the small cat in a blankie you had brought along, and you and Yasu made your way back to his manor. You placed the cat to rest on Ieyasu’s futon. “I can’t believe how cruel people can be, hurting such a poor defenceless animal”. Ieyasu simply nodded and made the two of you some tea. You had told him about your life, your job back in the future and well the fact that you were from the future. Everything started to make sense to him.
Why you were so naïve, so pure and so innocent. And Yasu told you about his life, his time as a hostage, everything. Your lives had been so different from each other, yet here you were sitting across one another each in love with the other. You had visited Yasu every day to check up on the little cat. Through these visits, you and Yasu became even closer. And one-day Yasu decided to confess his love for you. He was overjoyed when you stated that you too had loved him for a long time.
The two of you made the cutest couple, the dr and the vet. The two of you patched up and healed every man, woman, child or animal that crossed your path in need of help. You loved how soft and sweet Yasu is, a side only reserved for your eyes, and your eyes alone. He loves to cuddle and snuggle you all day long. You love the feeling of his warm arms wrapped around you. You can’t help but compare him to cotton candy, soft like a pillow and sweet as sugar. He will often come behind you as you work on making some medicine for one of your newest animal patients. He will gently snake his arms around your waist and prop his chin up to rest on your shoulder while he watches you work. He will definitely give you a few kisses on the cheek and back of the neck.
He loves it when you turn in his arms and return the warm embrace. He loves it, even more, when you give him a small lil Eskimo kiss followed by a sweet soft kiss on the lips. You have made this softi boi the happiest boy in all the world, and he will spend every day reminding you just how much he loves and adores you.
Other potential matches............... Yukimura
I hope you enjoyed it, love! ^_^❤❤🔥
