The concluding season of “Billions” is a case of “Axe” and you shall receive.
One of the series’ most prominent characters returns as the drama set in the upper levels of New York law and finance begins its seventh and final season Friday streaming on Paramount+ With Showtime, and Sunday on the linear Showtime channel. (Subsequent weekly episodes will maintain that release pattern.)
A good amount of the show’s history is incorporated into its victory lap, a particularly notable aspect being the return of founding cast member Damian Lewis as Bobby “Axe” Axelrod, the former hedge fund king who relocated to Europe to avoid a prison term engineered by his longtime nemesis, federal attorney Charles “Chuck” Rhoades Jr. (Paul Giamatti).
With the empire that Axe built now under the control of tycoon Michael Prince (Corey Stoll), who has designs on winning the U.S. presidency, changes are looming
something that “Billions” is known for, which included Lewis’ exit at the end of Season 5 and Stoll’s promotion to full series regular. Still very much rooted in the flow of the saga is Maggie Siff (“Sons of Anarchy”) as psychiatrist Wendy Rhoades, who has stayed on as performance coach at the company, despite the misgivings she has about Prince.
Wendy continues to have a confidant for her concerns in Mike “Wags” Wagner (David Costabile), Axe’s former deputy who also remains on Prince’s staff. Still present as well is Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon), the non-binary financial wizard who often posed a major challenge for Axe, and whose skills also have been retained by Prince.
Siff has spent the past month starring in an Off-Broadway staging of Tennessee Williams’ “Orpheus Descending,” which she terms “quite a swerve” from the “Billions” work that she finished recently. Despite the writers’ strike, the show was able to complete its last season, and Siff allows that it was “a labored process. Everybody wanted to be respectful and honor picket lines, and it was really a matter of taking it day by day for the final month, but we finished it.” (Note: This interview took place before the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike.)
The coda that “Billions” puts on Wendy’s story satisfies Siff: “There’s always been this thing of her being caught between two forces: Chuck and Axe. I think the beautiful thing about Michael Prince coming in, and the time she really was given to be with herself, it allowed her to carve a different kind of path. I do feel really good about where she’s able to end, and I’ll just say that I think Wendy (ends up) sort of her own person
truly independent of all of the forces she’s been knocked around by, despite her best efforts.”
Created by executive producers Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin, “Billions” is scheduled to have several spinoffs: “Billions: Miami,” “Millions” and “Trillions.” After being a regular on FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” previously, Siff isn’t necessarily looking to jump into another series, though the right material could alter that thinking (“I just don’t know how to answer that right now,” she says). However, she has confidence that the makers of “Billions” know what they’re doing in expanding that concept’s universe.
“I think Brian and Dave could spin this thing many, many different ways if they want to,” she says. “There’s certainly lots of story to tell, and there are great characters who can come back or circle through. (‘Billions’) has carved out a niche and a style, and it’s got such a good, smart spirit. And there’s a lot of room in our culture to be talking about finance and money, and what people are doing with it, and what it looks like from the inside. I think they could spin this off as much as they want. It’s just a question of how much of an appetite they have for it.”

Ant-Man early reviews don’t look good for Marvel
Tumblr media
Ant-Man – As the MCU has grown since the late 2000s, fans are eager to hear more about more impending films.
With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the fourth phase of the MCU, which is now divided between movies and television episodes, was completed in late 2022.
With the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel is kicking off Phase Five.
The Ant-Man sequel seems to be extending the multiverse idea in advance of the upcoming Secret Wars film.
Following the early screening for reviewers, reviews and leaks have already started to pour in.
On the other side, despite the fact that the previous few MCU movies have been well welcomed, Ant-Man seems to be continuing the trend of performing below expectations.
The movie
In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which also includes some new characters and some old ones, Phase Five is introduced.
Cassie Lang accidentally sends Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyne, Hank Pym, and Janet Van Dyne into the Quantum Realm in the most recent Marvel movie.
Scott must work for the new threat Kang the Conqueror in order to bring his family back to Earth, while Janet must face her past.
Among the returning characters are:
Scott Lang/Ant-Man – Paul Rudd
Hope Van Dyne/Wasp – Evangeline Lilly
Dr. Hank Pym – Michael Douglas
Janet Van Dyne/Wasp – Michelle Pfeiffer
Jimmy Woo – Randall Park
Veb – David Dastmalchian
Meanwhile, the new characters and faces are:
Kang the Conqueror – Jonathan Majors
Cassie Lang (old character, new actress) – Kathryn Newton
Lord Krylar – Bill Murray
M.O.D.O.K. – Corey Stoll
Quaz – William Jackson Harper
Jentorra – Katy M. O’Brian
What critics are saying
In contrast to the bulk of MCU movies, Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantum of Solace has gotten mixed reviews.
Although the third Ant-Man’s visuals and Jonathan Majors’ acting are two highlights, it would be hard to overlook the entire plot.
“I can say with 100% certainty that viewers are in for a treat,” wrote Danielle Solzman of Solzy at the Movies.
Similar excitement was also shown by critic Jenna Anderson of ComicBook.com, who wrote:
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an eccentric and essential spectacle, which further expands the possibilities of what the MCU’s tentpole projects can still be capable of.”
But Hoai-Tran Bui of Inverse wasn’t impressed, so it’s not all sunshine and butterflies.
“It commits the worst sin a movie can me,” wrote the Inverse critic. “It’s boring.”
“Marvel movies have long become less like movies and more like feature-length commercials for the next big thing,” she continued.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is sadly the greatest embodiment of that.”...Read More

Movies I watched in February
fyi, I have zero knowledge on how to professionally rate or review a movie. I am not gonna pay attention to every little detail. these rating are simply based on how much I enjoyed/liked the movie
Follow me
Unhinged
In Time
Avengers Age of Ultron
Songbird
Star Trek
Step up all in
Project Almanac
Ant Man
Space Sweepers
Christiane F.
Jurassic World
Jurassic World the fallen kingdom
1. follow me
A social media personality travels with his friends to Moskow to capture new content for his successful vlog. Always pushing the limits and catering to a growing audience, they enter a cold world of mystery, excess, and danger.
starring: Keegan Allen, Holland Roden, Denzel Whitaker, Ronen Rubenstein, Pasha D. Lchnikoff
the end was very predictable and i pretty much already knew halfway through the movie what was gonna happen. but it still was quite thrilling and I did enjoy watching it
6.5/10
2. unhinged
After a confrontation with an unstable man at an intersection, a woman becomes becomes the target of his rage.
starring: Russel Crowe, Caren Pistorius, Gabriel Batemen
hm idk, I didn’t really like it, my sister didn’t really like it but my mom did, I think. it just seemed so, no overdramatic but just too much in a way
3/10
3. in time
In a future where people stop aging after 25 and need to buy time to live, the rich become immortal while others cease to exist. So, Will is on the run with a hostage in a desperate bid to survive.
starring: Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, Olivia Wilde, Alex Pettyfer
yes, such a good movie. Ireally like the concept. can recommend
7/10
4. avengers age of ultron
When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it’s up to Earth’s mightiest heroes to stop the villanious Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.
starring: Robert Downy Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johanson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Bettany
hell yes, one of my favourite marvel movies. Wanda and Pietro.. Hawkeye.. all the little jokes throughout the entire movie and of course the scene where everyone tries to lift thor’s hammer, what’s not to love about this movie
10/10
5. songbird
In 2024 a pandemic ravages the world and it’s cities. Centering a handful of people as they naviagete the obstacles currently hindering society: disease, marital law, quarantine, and vigilantes.
starring: K.J. Apa, Sofia Carson, Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stromare, Alexandra Daddario, Craig Robinson
I really enjoyed watching this. yeah sure, the ending was obvious but I was still glued to the screen. I also felt super weird watching this, kinda surreal because we are basically living a more harmless version of this rn. I really liked seeing sofia carson in such a movie, I’ve only seen her in the descendants so this was a bit of a change haha. I’m not that big of a fan of kj but he was great as well and i really loved his characters style.
7/10
6. star trek
The brash James T. Kirk tries to live up to his father’s legacy with Mr. Spock keeping him in check as a vengeful Romulan from the future creates black holes to destroy the Federation one planet at a time.
starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Carl Urban, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Zoe Zaldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin
I put it on because I wanted to have some background noise while playing sims but I ended up playing like 20 minutes and then just watching the movie haha I forgot how good it was, and the others as well, aaand I totally forgot carl urban was in it, so that was a little surprise. anyways, can recommend watching them if you’re into sci-fi action movies but at the same time, if you’re into that I’m pretty sure you’ve already watched them.
7.5/10
bonus: I also watched star trek beyond the other day but this time I was barely paying attention so I can't really say too much, but it's also quite goodđŸ‘đŸ»
7. step up all in
All-stars from the previous Step up installments come together in glittering Las Vegas, battling for a victory that could define their dreams and their careers.
starring: Ryan Guzman, Briana Evigan, Adam Sevani, Misha Gabriel Hamilton, Sephen Stevo Jones, David Schreibman, Mari Koda, Alyson Stoner, Izabella Miko
definetly one of my favourite dance movies. highly recommend it!! I’d like it more without the romancde but it’s fine, I guess, I can live with it haha and the last performance... wow just wow that’s all I can say to that. y’all go watch it
9/10
8. project almanac
A group of teens discover secret plans of a time machine, and construct one. However, things start to get out of control.
starring: Jonny Weston, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Virginia Gardner
okay... I did enjoy watching it! the beginning was a little slow imo but then it just got more and more intense which was kinda nice. god, at some point the main guy kept making the wrong decisions and that was very frustrating to watch. the ending was alright, spoiler ahead (I guess) I would have liked the ending more if it was the exact same as the beginning, meaning that the movie is just one big time loop and the events from the movie were about to repeat themselves. but that's just my opinionđŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïżœïżœïżœ
6.5/10
9. ant man
Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his Mentor Dr. Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
starring: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, David Dastmalchian, T.I.
another one of my favorite mcu movies. it's just fun and easy and doesn't have a lot of pain in it. the giant ant it's my favorite part haha I want it as a pet
9/10
10. space sweepers
Set in the year 2092 and follows the crew of a space junk collector ship called The Victory. When they discover a humanoid robot named Dorothy that's known to be a weapon of mass destruction, they get involved in a risky business deal.
starring: Song Joong-Kim, Kim Tae-ri, Seon-kyu Jin, Hyang-gi Kim, Richard Armitage, Ye-Rin Park
I really loved this movie. I cried like 6 times haha, which came unexpected. (or maybe it's because I'm suppose to get my period any day now) I did not think I was going to enjoy this movie as much as I did, at all. it was fun, it was exciting, it was sad (even my dad said that) the plot was good, the visual effects were amazing, it did feel like I was watching this movie for like 5 hours but not in a bad way and I am now kinda emotionally attached to the characters haha (I might do a rewatch). another thing I really liked was the language/synchronization. in the original version they speak mostly korean and english but also some other languages and it's the same in the synchronizations. the dialogue of the main characters is in the language you pick but every other character (I guess) is a different language and I absolutely love that. I highly recommend watching this!!
also, its was super weird seeing Richard Armitage not as a dwarf hahaha
10/10
11. christiane f.
A teen girl in 1970's Berlin becomes addicted to heroin. Everything in her life slowly begins to distort and disappear as she befriends a small crew of junkies and falls in love with a drug-abusing male prostitute.
starring: Natja Brunckhorst, Thomas Haustein, Jens Kuphal, Christiane Reichelt
I binged the series the other day and after the last episode this movie was in the "watch next" thingy idk and I thought "well, why not" and watched it. good movie, definitely!! I really liked that they didn't show the highs of doing heroin but focused on the negative effects it has on someone and what it's doing to your body. it is a super realistic but very very dark movie. the actors were all about 15/16 years old and looked very young which was a good and kinda disturbing thing because christiane and her friend were like 13/14 when that all happened and it made you realise that there were kids doing all that stuff
9/10
12. jurrasic world
A new theme park, built on the original site of Jurassic Park, creates a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree.
starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D'Onofrio
13. jurassic world fallen kingdom
When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.
starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Isabella Sermon
I am tired and don't really want to say all that much other than both of them are very good and I do like them. good action/adventure movies. can definitely recommend them. I definitely like the first one more because it feels like (just a little bit) that the main story in the second one is the same as in the first one, someone creates a new dinosaur species to make more money and something goes terribly wrong along the way. but it's still entertaining!
jurassic wolrd: 7.5/10
jurassic world fallen kingdom: 7/10

From the office to the forest, the men of Billions are taking some much-needed time out in nature in the final season’s upcoming eighth episode. In an exclusive to Collider clip, audiences can catch a sneak peek at the men’s camping trip that launches them out of their comfort zones and forces them to slow down and take in the little joys that life has to offer.
Catching up with Chuck (Paul Giamatti), Ira (Ben Shenkman), and Chuck Sr. (Jeffrey DeMunn), the men have just settled into their mountain retreat when who else should come busting through the door than Dr. Swerdlow (Rick Hoffman). Here to enjoy some fresh mountain air and maybe the company of a lady or two, the doctor is upset to find out that it won't be that type of gathering. Still, with his iconic sunglasses and a flashy red windbreaker, Dr. Swerdlow is here to shake things up alongside his old pals. Maybe the getaway will be salvaged after all.
After a seven-season run, Showtime’s hit series will soon be bowing out following this final batch of episodes. The latest season has pushed the characters to the breaking point with longtime alliances turning to dust and friends stabbing one another in the back. As the season trudges on towards the finish line, fans can expect plenty more undermining and greed to drive the plot. Along with Giamatti, DeMunn, and Hoffman, the current season saw the return of Damian Lewis’ (Homeland) Bobby Axelrod who was missing from the penultimate season, with an ensemble including David Costabile (Suits), Dola Rashad (Steel Magnolias), Asia Kate Dillon (Orange is the New Black), Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange: The Movie), Sakina Jaffrey (The Equalizer 2), Corey Stoll (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), and Toney Goins (For Life).
From One Business to Another
Having gained notoriety for his leading role of Louis Litt on USA Network’s long-running legal drama, Suits, Hoffman is back in the final season of Billions to reprise the role of Dr. Swerdlow. The outlandish character made his Billions premiere back in Season 5, Swerdlow was introduced as a medical professional there to help Chuck Sr. With interesting methods and a foul mouth, audiences will be happy to catch more of the good doctor’s hot takes before the series comes to an end.
Check out Collider’s exclusive peek at the upcoming eighth episode of Billions below and get caught up now before the series comes to a close on October 29.

The Many Saints of Newark Trailer Introduces a Young Tony Soprano
https://ift.tt/2SBsJ3F
Don’t let his D+ average fool you, the results say Tony Soprano is a leader, we learn in the first trailer from the upcoming The Many Saints of Newark. Written and produced by The Sopranos creator, David Chase, the film will dig deep into the roots of the future boss of the DiMeo family, the “glorified crew” with its thumb on Northern New Jersey. Many origin stories show how heroes begin. The Many Saints of Newark trailer promises we will get to see the legend made. Check out the trailer below!
The late James Gandolfini’s son Michael Gandolfini gets his button playing the teen-aged Antonio Soprano, as we hear his name called in the echo of his high school hallways. Tony seems to be a problem kid. He spends his time defending his rep on the street, or making trouble at school. Like a lot of kids his age, he doesn’t apply himself. He’s got a high IQ but would rather slack at home, listening to Humble Pie records through the earliest version of headphones: two huge speakers, one by each ear.
Judging from the trailer, Dr. Melfi’s more Freudian analyses might have been on the mark during the series. Tony did want to marry his mom, after all. Vera Farmiga who plays Livia Soprano, sounds just like Edie Falco when she played Carmela. Livia appears to be as dismissive of her son, snorting at the very idea Tony could lead anything, as she turns out to be as his mother on the series.
“Growing up with the family takes a toll,” we hear in the trailer, as the family scene blurs with the mob family. Jon Bernthal plays Giovanni “Johnny Boy” Soprano. Tony’s father looks comfortable handling the hardware of the trade. Corey Stoll plays Junior Soprano, who offers to school young Tony on the ways of life, but his brother’s son doesn’t listen to anyone but Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola). The film looks at Tony’s coming-of-age years through this relationship, and how it helped shape the teenage under-achiever into a mob boss.
“As far as your nephew goes, stay out of his life,” Ray Liotta’s “Hollywood Dick” Moltisanti warns Dickie. This could mean a lot of things, based on the trailer and what we know about Dickie. We see he’s a pretty efficient, violent, and fiery criminal who is making the streets his own. As a generous Dutch Uncle, he promises Tony some speakers will be the last time he’ll ever steal. The first time we see Dickie, he’s drinking in an alley, and the framing exudes trouble in waiting.
“Let’s be honest about the great Dickie Moltisanti, my father, your hero,” Christopher Moltisanti once told Tony on the series. “He wasn’t much more than a fucking junkie.” The trailer doesn’t show any evidence of it getting in the way of his job.
“We gotta do something about Dickie Moltisanti,” Leslie Odom Jr.’s character, Harold McBrayer, vows, letting on how much of a loose cannon Tony’s hero must be.
Directed by Alan Taylor, The Sopranos prequel will follow young Anthony as he grows up “in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history,” according to the official synopsis. In the trailer, we see the ground forces of the national guard overtake the city during the mid-sixties’ riots. Veiled threats of takedowns signal rival gangsters are challenging the mob rule in “an increasingly race-torn city.”

The Sopranos Questions That The Many Saints of Newark Can Answer
By Nick Harley
The trailer promises scores galore. Folding cash gets passed, street action moves fast, quickies can be caught in club bathrooms, and Dickie apparently knows more ways to bring the heat than mere arson.
The production and set crew evidently paid close attention to period details. Satriale’s Pork Store looks exactly the same. That’s neighborhood pride. Most of the trailer is accompanied by a dirty blues version of Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody.” But the trailer ends on a familiar note:  “Woke Up This Morning,” by Alabama 3, which most people know as the classic HBO series’ theme song, closes out the tease.
From the trailer, it looks like the film may not need The Sopranos to anchor the family in the cinematic world. Dickie thinks if he leads by example, Tony has “got what it takes.” The Many Saints of Newark has all the makings of a gangster classic.

The Many Saints of Newark will be released in theaters on October 1, and will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from the theatrical release.

"THE BOURNE LEGACY" (2012) Review
Tumblr media
"THE BOURNE LEGACY" (2012) Review Following the success of the 2007 movie, "THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM", Universal Pictures announced its intentions to release a fourth movie featuring the amnesiac CIA assassin, Jason Bourne. However, their plans nearly folded when actor Matt Damon announced that he would not do a fourth movie.
Damon's announcement failed to put a final kibosh on Universal's plans. Instead, the studio and writer-director Tony Gilroy went ahead with another movie about the CIA assassination programs in which Jason Bourne had participated. Instead of bringing back director Paul Greengrass, Universal and Gilroy (who had written the first three movies) hired Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner to portray a second CIA assassin named Aaron Cross. With Gilroy in the director's chair, the results led to the fourth movie called "THE BOURNE LEGACY". The movie's title came from Eric Van Lustbader's 2004 novel, but its plot is completely different. "THE BOURNE LEGACY" introduced a third black ops program called Operation Outcome. Unlike Operations Treadstone and Blackbriar, Outcome was specifically created by the U.S. Department of Defense and it enhanced the physical and mental abilities of field operatives through pills referred to as "chems". The movie opens with one of its operatives - Aaron Cross - engaged in a training assignment in Alaska. After Cross traverses rugged terrain to a remote cabin, he meets its operator, an exiled Outcome operative, Number Three. During Cross' time in Alaska, the Blackbriar and Treadstone programs were publicly being exposed (during the events of the previous film, "THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM"), leading the FBI and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence to investigate CIA Deputy Director Pamela Landy, Blackbriar supervisor Noah Vosen, Treadstone clinical researcher Dr. Albert Hirsch and CIA Director Ezra Kramer. Kramer requested help from Eric Byer, a retired Air Force colonel responsible for overseeing the CIA's clandestine operations. Byer, who had originally recruited Cross, discovered potentially damaging video on the Internet in which the lead researchers for Treadstone and Outcome - especially Hirsch - appear at professional functions in public. To prevent the Treadstone/Blackbriar investigation from finding and revealing Outcome's top-secret scientific advances, Byer decided to end Outcome and order the deaths of the program’s agents and medical personnel. He saw this sacrifice as acceptable because the government had already separately initiated next-generation "beta programs". Byer attempted to kill both Cross and Number Three by sending a drone bomb to destroy the cabin in Alaska. Number Three is killed and Cross managed to survive, due to being outside when the bomb dropped. Byer made another attempt to kill Cross with a second drone and unbeknownst to him, ended up killing a wolf pack. Cross then learned of a massacre at Outcome's private research lab, conducted by a chemically brainwashed scientist. The sole survivor turned out to be geneticist Dr. Marta Shearing, whom Cross later saved from CIA assassins. He had hoped that Dr. Shearing could help him wean or "viral" off the chemicals and at the same time, save both of them from being killed by Byer and the Department of Defense. When Universal first leaked news of a fourth movie with Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, I did not exactly embrace the idea. As far as I was concerned, three  movies were enough. When Damon announced that he would not reprise the Bourne role, I felt a surge of relief. As much as I had enjoyed the third BOURNE movie, I felt it was a bit of a comedown after the first two movies. Then I heard news that Universal and Tony Gilroy was going ahead with a fourth movie . . . without Damon. Again, I dismissed the idea of going to see this latest BOURNE movie, until I learned that Jeremy Renner had been cast in the lead. Since I am a fan of Renner's, I decided to go see this fourth film. However, I did not believe I would enjoy it as much as the first three. Like the previous three movies, "THE BOURNE LEGACY" was not perfect. One, I never understood the need for Tony Gilroy to create a third black ops program for the franchise. Considering that the Treadstone and Blackbriar programs were in danger of exposure by the end of "THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM", I was surprised that Gilroy did not simply make Cross a Blackbriar operative. In other words, I found the addition of a third black ops program rather irrelevant. Unfortunately, the movie also featured the continuing presence of CIA Director Ezra Kramer. His presence in the third movie struck me as writing blooper on Gilroy's part. His presence in this fourth movie is a continuation of that blooper. For some reason, Gilroy decided to utilize Paul Greengrass' shaky cam style of filming . . . much to my annoyance. My biggest problem with "THE BOURNE LEGACY" was the ending. I found it vague, rather sudden and anti-climatic. When the movie ended with Cross and Dr. Shearing somewhere in the South China Seas and Pamela Lundy in trouble with Federal authorities for revealing the details of the Treadstone and Blackbriar programs, the first words that left my mouth were "Was that it?". As far as I was concerned, the BOURNE franchise required a fifth movie to tie up the loose plots . . . which never materialized. Despite the ending, despite the continuing presence of Ezra Kramer and despite the Greengrass filming and editing style; I enjoyed "THE BOURNE LEGACY" very much. Who am I kidding? I enjoyed it a lot. In fact, it became my favorite film in the franchise. I felt that Gilroy did a slightly better job of meshing the plot from "THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM" with this film, than meshing the third film with the second one, "THE BOURNE SUPREMACY". A throwaway discussion between Kramer and Noah Vosen regarding Pamela Lundy in the third film finally came to fruition by the end of this movie. The movie also explored - during most of its 135 minutes - Cross' difficulties in dealing with his dependency upon the "chems".  Like the other three movies in the franchise, "THE BOURNE LEGACY" featured some first-rate action sequences. My favorites include Cross' use of the wolf pack to distract the second drone bomb from himself, the massacre at the Operation Outcome labthat featured a chilling performance by Ćœeljko Ivanek, and the long chase sequence in Manila, the Philippines. But my favorite sequence featured Cross' rescue of Dr. Shearing from the CIA assassins. The best thing that Tony Gilroy ever did for this movie was to avoid making Aaron Cross into a Jason Bourne 2.0.  He did this by creating Cross as a completely personality - verbose, more extroverted and an acute judge of character. But what really made Cross worked as a character was Jeremy Renner's performance. Some critic once said that what was the point in watching a BOURNE movie without Matt Damon. Well, the first BOURNE production I ever saw was the 1988 miniseries starring Richard Chamberlain. And he was great. I also enjoyed Damon as Bourne, but . . . honestly? I did not really miss him, due to Renner's performance. The movie also benefited from Rachel Weisz's excellent performance as Operation Outcome medical researcher, Dr. Marta Shearing. Weisz's Shearing was a quiet, intense personality, whose ordered life was thrown upside down by her brainwashed colleague and later, the CIA. Weisz was exceptional in the scene featuring the CIA assassins' murder attempt on her. More importantly, the actress and Renner proved to have a superb and somewhat humorous screen chemistry. Another excellent performance came from Edward Norton, who portrayed the ex-Air Force colonel Eric Byer. What I liked about Norton's performance was that he portrayed Byer without the occasional frantic behavior that marked David Strathairn or Chris Cooper's performances. Stacy Keach, whom I have not seen in several years, portrayed a high ranking Federal official named Mark Turso. I cannot recall ever seeing him in a villainous role (at least not to my knowledge), but I must admit that I found his performance very impressive. Dennis Boutsikaris gave a very sardonic and entertaining performance as Terence Ward, the CEO of the company that created the “chems” for the Outcome agents.  Oscar Isaac was effective and subtle performance as the other Outcome agent, Number Three. I could also say the same about Donna Murphy, Michael Chernus and Corey Stoll, who portrayed Byer’s employees.  I was very impressed by Elizabeth Marvel’s balanced portrayal of a tough and no-nonsense C.I.A. assassin sent to kill Marta Shearing.  It was nice to see Joan Allen, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn and Albert Finney again. But they were not on the screen long enough for me to judge their performances. Like I had earlier stated, "THE BOURNE LEGACY" was not perfect, but it seemed a far cry from the failure that some believed it was.  A far cry.  In fact, not only do I believe it was a first-rate political thriller despite its flaws, I am seriously beginning to regard it as the best film in the franchise.  Thanks to Tony Gilroy’s direction and screenplay; along with a first-rate cast led by Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz, I enjoyed it very much.
