Josie Day was a companion of the Eighth Doctor. She was a living painting, commissioned to capture the likeness of Lady Josephine, but she was so rich in animae particles that she became alive.

The Valeyard took on the identity of Jack the Ripper. While committing the famous murders, the Valeyard used the Dark Matrix to corrupt the other Doctors.

Ace was almost the sixth Ripper victim.

The Man with the Rosette (or, the Master) gave Scarlette rings to use for her and the Doctor’s wedding. He also sat in on the wedding on the side reserved for the Doctor’s family.

The Fifth Doctor is so scared of spiders that he will freeze in place and make Peri get rid of it.

The Saxon Master thought that the sun on the Mondasian Colony Ship would look the same as the sun in the Teletubbies.

Shipping four/Sarah/Harry and also headcanoning four as aroace is very funny to me, because we essentially have four walking up to a couple and saying, "Congratulations! You are now a polycule! I will not kiss either of you, but I'm going to sleep in the same bed as you. You get your choice of triple bunk beds or a king-sized mattress."

Doctor Who Meets Scratchman

So my latest read was this novelisation of the original script for the unmade movie Doctor Who Meets Scratchman from the seventies written by Tom Baker and Ian Marter. The story of this lost material was already famous amongst fans because Marter and Baker had both talked about it in interviews, but it's the first time ever that the story is properly published in any kind of way.

The script was rewritten as a novel by Tom Baker himself with the help of James Goss. According to some informational stuff contained in the book, the story was not that good when it was originally dug up from the archives, this is why it needed a lot of work to make this product.

In my opinion it was a great read and it was successfully frightful at times. I'm sure a seventies horror type of movie with this material would have been just great.

The two halves are really different, but also unequal in terms of quality. That kind of makes the second half a bit frustrating to read, when you've witnessed such an amazing first part. In all the first part you can't wait to meet Scratchman, but when you finally do it's when the story goes downhill. I enjoyed the last part as well, but certainly not as much as the first one.

The trial format, which is pretty much the same as the one used in the Colin Baker TV series, is pretty light and does not weigh too much on the story. I liked that part because it helped emphasize the themes that are more discreetly brought up in the story.

It was a risk, but it all looks more like a Tom Baker story than a fourth doctor story but it's also what gives it its charm.

I don't feel like I have anything more to say that's not too spoily so I'll leave it to you to discover this wonderful story whether by reading the book or by watching documentaries about it or reading about it online!

When I had to lie down in a dress in one scene I was suddenly aware of the camera’s position. ‘Ian, can you see my knickers?’ ‘’fraid so, old girl! But don’t worry. When we do it for real, I’ll pull your dress down.’ and, bless him, he did.

took me longer than i expected because uni, but i’ve finished part 3 of that regeneration-except-the-doctor-is-an-extradimensional-insectoid-timesquid-who-literally-moults-off-their-old-body fic! this one’s much less painful than last time, there’s no battles for their companions’ lives or nightmarish political needle-threading, just waking up nice and safe in the tardis with their friends just outside, the walls covered in moulting acid, unit on high alert, everyone on the verge of panic because they exploded into a big ol’ squid... nothing to worry about

today’s deleted scene: there was originally a bit in the doctor’s conversation with sarah jane where she mentioned that when they were flailing through the unit hallways they didn’t seem to know where they were going and they kept bashing into walls and they wouldn’t stop screaming, and it was... honestly about as terrifying as discovering they were secretly an eldritch abomination this whole time. the doctor managed to reassure her through a mix of white lies and sincere thanks, and then they hugged. it didn’t really fit the direction i ended up taking the scene, though - resolved it a bit too neatly - so i cut it. they probably do have a conversation to that effect later in the tardis though
