#6 Alien bodies, Lawrence Miles, 1997
Holy fucking fuck???? My fucking god???? What the fuck???? This is so good? Faction paradox is introduced, interference is foreshadowed, the celestis, qixotl, future not unit, everything is good in this book???
The book opening on the fourth doctor burying laika space race is such a great scene and this whole book is just a succession of very strong concepts. Homonculette and his TARDIS, the way the faction operates and the mindufck in the vault, the shift and the celestis deathworld my god every single one of these concept feel organic with one another. Having the doctor being so out of his depth is so great and the snapshot of another doctor is intriguing as fuck. Sam is going trough the horrors as well and I can't wait seeing more of cousin justine
Having the krotons there was certainly an odd choice but thankfully Miles made them weird and it's very funny to have them solo the dalek offscreen.
10/10 really amazing book, feels like it sets up a lot of things to come and still is amazing in its own right
Guess what you idiots, I lied
Big ass DW review post number 2 EDA edition losers
Starting off with number #1 The eight doctors, Terrance Dicks, 1997
Overall it's a pretty unremarkable story. The most notable thing is that the first eighth doctor story revolves around solving his amnesia, by visiting several fan favourites episodes of the show in between sequences. It's a fun enough romp trough the show's history and refresher course, we get to see an unearthly child's rock murder attempt, the war games, the sea devils, E-space vampires, the five doctors' aftermath, the middle of the sixth doctor trial, and just a quick meetup with the seventh doctor for good measure.
Most of these short segments don't really make a coherent story, and while the doctor learns about himself, it still doesn't really add anything to these original stories. There's a side gallifreyan politics secret plot that just don't mesh nicely with the rest. It's all a bit messy, and although it introduces Sam Jones, it doesn't really do anything with her character and doesn't bring her along until the very end.
5/10 fun but is meant to be a refresher course that can only be enjoyed by people who were already fans

There is like. A triangle that links the human pet guy, Elon musk and Ted kaczynki. They are the same type of guy but with different specifics

You want doctor who to go back to it's roots by having the doctor telling a dalek to kill itself. I want doctor who to go back to it's roots by having doctor who try to kill someone with a rock for being annoying. We are not the same
Other people want Doctor Who to go back to it's roots by having the Doctor be a white man. I want Doctor Who to go back to it's roots by having the Doctor tell a Dalek to kill itself. We are not the same.

she is NOT a brave and loyal knight, she is a loyal dog. Like that what's make her so interesting to me like she NEVER allows herself to live for herself and not have anyone to act for
posting Things I Like About Veklin as a way of thinking out loud trying to figure out her character tbh. and i’m still only halfway through her audios. but she’s kind of hard to pin down when sometimes you see her being a compassionate soldier and sometimes you see her being a vicious snake. sometimes a cruel commander just following orders sometimes a brave hero throwing herself into battle sometimes a friend sometimes a bully sometimes clever and stupid and scared. but the juice is that all of it is true and the REAL juice is that she doesn’t have an identity crisis about all these contradictions. she’s NOT that introspective and she knows who she is. she just goes out there every day and acts how she’s gonna act. she does have a huge insecure streak but it’s more to do with who’s giving her her next set of orders (who’s in control of her) than who she is or whatever.

Oh what's that? You only read books with lots of "spice" in them? Well then I've got a great one for you, practically the whole plot revolves around "spice". Ahem. In the week before the departure to Arrakis,

By far my favourite thing about the EDA is that they make the VNAs appear grounded in comparison
