Phoning a Friend

Warriors watches the two Champions blearily, forcing his eyes to stay focused on them. He knows one is the Shadow but he can’t let himself entertain the possibilities of who the other one is. For now, he has to think of it nothing more than another potential enemy.

The one with the odd spear that gleams gold, its green gem ornaments clinking softly against the shaft as he twirls it, keeps himself between Warriors and the twisted Champion. The golden spear spins and spins, batting away a sickening dark blade every time the bloodstained, withered Champion tries to break through his guard.

Watching the spinning spear is actually making Warriors feel nauseous. Well, he mentally amends that to ‘more nauseous’, glancing down at the blood spreading across his tunic.

And this weird noise, whatever it is, isn’t helping! There’s something heavy weighing the clearing down, pressing into Warriors’ skin.

All he can hear is this pulsing loud tick tick tick in his ears, accompanied by an odd warping sensation in his limbs.

It’s magic, he knows that much, but he’s never felt it before and has no idea which Champion it may be coming from, if it even is either of them casting the spell.

He turns his head to spit out a mouthful of blood and it feels like the movement takes an eternity to complete.

So either his blood loss is more severe than he thought, or there’s something else going on.

The spear-wielding Champion darts backwards, his grip along the spear finally shifting into a proper stance, grinning wildly.

Ha, Warriors is hilarious.

A large shining gem sitting at the dip of the first Champion's throat lights his face up from below, all deep shadows and softened edges. He’s breathing heavily, a slight tremble visible in his fingers as he readjusts his grip.

The other Champion across from them makes a sweeping gesture with its withered arm and something red and alive spurs into life, lunging forward. The shape twists, absorbing what remains of the rotted flesh, and large, monstrous fingers stretch into existence. They reach through the darkness for the first Champion, wicked under the moonlight.

The first Champion raises the spear slightly in response, his grin vanishing as it's smothered under a blank, smooth expression that Warriors refuses to recognise. The fingers, the vile magic, get closer to his face, closing the distance rapidly—

And Time shoots out of the bushes, the Biggoron sword catching the moonlight as it arcs through the air and severs the arm from withered Champion's body. The arm hits the ground and melts into a writhing pool of furious magic, thrashing around that Champion’s feet.

The ticking in Warriors’ ears stops so abruptly he's thrown off-kilter, reeling at the sudden silence left in its wake.

Time glances at him, a quick look filled with concern and worry, then shifts his gaze to the spear-wielding Champion — Wild, Warriors lets himself finally acknowledge.

Dozens of micro-expressions fly rapidly across Time's face before he finally decides on grim determination.

“That,” he says in an almost wobbly tone of voice, taking up stance next to Wild, “is loud.”

“Yeah, I’ve been told. Sorry about that.” Wild agrees, still focused on the withered copy of himself standing in front of them. He shoots Time a small grin, barely there but blindingly obvious if you know what to look for. “Worked though.”

Time lets out a quiet huff of laughter, his own small smile twitching across his face. He shifts, sword held tightly in both hands. "You're definitely not wrong about that, Wild. When we get back to camp, you'll have to tell me how you managed to make your magic even louder than it already was."

ok now that that last post has popped out of the queue, can i just be corny for a second and say @drew-remenda idk if you're checking notes on a sideblog, but thank you SO much for not deleting your blog. it's such a beautiful and perfect time capsule of the sharks from 2012-2014 and i feel so certain a record this encompassing does not exist for free anywhere else, given how yahoo and the nhl keep restructuring their websites, google is unusable, everything on the internet behind a paywall etc. it's truly such a gift to have all these photos from a decade+ ago available on tumblr. going through all 168 pages of your blog in one night and queuing the posts that delighted me most, and then watching as newer AND older fans have reacted and shared the photos has been so joy-inducing for me. it's been truly such a lovely moment of watching the past grow present in sharkudablr this week.

also a wonderful reminder that no matter what, sharks fans will always latch onto some random fucking guy...long may jamie mcginn reign. thank you so much for not deleting 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️

The night was brilliantly clear. The world was dark, painted black and a velvet blue, generously dappled with sparkling stars which glowed as pinpricks of light amidst an endless sea: guided by the pathway of norðrljós glowing green, violet, and teal leading up to the skies from the Earth. The air was clean, cold, and held kind, gentle winds.

The night was quiet. It was still.

The world was peaceful.

Hands tight around their own shoulders, cold fingers squeezing skin - the desperate warmth covering them from a hand they could not remember both a respite and a sorrow - they held onto themselves as their mind was holding on to the memories of something else; something so long ago.

Upon the summit of the Throat of the World, they wept.

Hello, I vaguely remember you had a post about folks who 'didn't like' Haruhi of, you know, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Some of it, I thought, was a request for context or an explanation, but maybe not. Would you want someone to broach the topic?

if not, no worries, I've just lost the post, but have been mulling on a response for months. (Totally get if this is more of a Do Not Engage discussion or just want to say no, cause you might have deleted the post due to prior poor responses)

i mean. people can say whatever they want to me, generally (and often do). i'm not, like, directly opposed to someone coming in and explaining their perspective, and i do usually try to approach most things like that in good faith as much as i'm able to!

(but also, like, as the #1 haruhi defender on this godforsaken earth. my general stances are not a secret.)

so if it's something you want to share to provide context, go ahead, but i can't promise i'm going to suddenly understand or agree with you and i also can't promise not to respond with an essay about my own interpretations and reasoning but that should be expected by anyone who knows this blog at all

tl;dr: go for it if you want to!

(for context, since tumblr ate the original post for the time being: it was a post about my not understanding how someone could enjoy the series without liking haruhi as a character, which is something i stand by.)

I will delete this in a few hours because I don't like to leave these things up on my blog that is dedicated to queer affirming plushies but to all those who are leaving upset messages in my ask box regarding the vinician puppy design - I did do extensive research beforehand in regards to which mlm flags to use! If you have concerns about the ocean mlm/vinician flag I will ref this post to you which has sources and clears up several misconceptions about the flag. tldr (but I seriously recommend reading it) the creator of the flag is a completely different person than the problematic person who people often claim is the creator, and all pride flags take influence from each other.

it is important to me to spread queer positivity which is why I aim to be as inclusive as possible with my pride puppies. I was requested to make a mlm puppy quite a lot and I initially did not want to use this flag due to the controversy I had seen around it. Because I wanted to be inclusive I looked into it and learned that what I had heard was incorrect and changed my perspective.

episode two is so messed up. what a thing to orchestrate. what an elaborate mind game.

smithers pretending to be a grief counsellor first then changing his story, acting deliberately sinister - saying things that alex should be glad to hear but villainously, playing the part of someone playing the part of an ally

wolf using victim-blaming torture tactics - "i don't actually want to do this, you're the one forcing me by refusing to co-operate" - simultaneously threatening alex and holding a promise of mercy over his head. an enemy who it would be so so easy to turn into a friend.

smithers, back again, first claiming to be rescuing alex and blaming blunt for all this (though not outright saying wolf is his agent)... then shifting into the enemy again and threatening to kill him.

and what is all this teaching him. is it really about testing / "training" alex's resistance to torture and manipulation. or is it about teaching him that those who claim to be on his side never are? that attempting to tell anyone at all that blunt is using him as a child soldier will only lead to worse?

and on top of that. if you take this in combination with the deportation and care threats, blunt is saying he can do anything and get away with it. this whole web is his. we can infiltrate your life, we can take your home and family away, we can hurt, threaten, torture and kill you, and we can spin whatever story we like and use the law or ignore it as suits us. we pretended to be other parties who knew what was happening, but we lied. we are all there is. you have no choice.

(and also, potentially - just normalising abuse. alex goes almost directly from smithers pointing a gun at him to being briefed by jones and smithers. "we can do anything we like to you, and then you have to sit at a desk across from us and act like it never happened." blunt is casual and matter-of-fact and mildly congratulatory. "we can put you through hell and that's not just normal but good. if you'd been hurt less that would mean you'd failed.")

of course, alex doesn't just. completely internalise all this. he fights it, he sees through a fair amount of it, he retains his grudge, he goes against some of these lessons later on (eg telling close friends about his mission) - but still. he keeps working with them. and i would be surprised if it didn't affect him at all. going to be looking out for it as i continue my rewatch.

but also - what's most disturbing, imo, is that none of it was even necessary. alex didn't need training - he already had the skills. and he didn't need much in the way of persuasion - he's already prepared to go to incredible lengths for ian.

don't take this the wrong way, because we barely know ian and i don't yet see reason to accuse him of much more than being a little strict and suffocating - but this does make me wonder exactly what his parenting (uncling) looked like. like, sure, the loyalty and bravery seem more tragic than sinister, they can all just be alex. but wolf said, repeatedly, that alex seemed to have been trained, like he'd been training his whole life - and i'm just wondering how. and why.

the problem of the matter is i did internalize so much of what ex friend believed about me. even though i knew he was wrong and knew what was happening and tried to stop it and if i took more action to stop it would have been abusing power i held in a way i couldn't live with myself for.
