Continuing the tour of my collection, this one is a two for one

[We will ignore that I did not think about the way AG eyes work before deciding how to photograph all of my dolls for these introduction posts.]

Cecile and Marie Grace are already character dolls, two girls living during the Yellow Fever epidemic in New Orleans in 1853. They were the only dolls American Girl released as a pair, so I couldn't make separste posts for them.

Something I can't wait for is making new clothes for them. I am currently studying costuming, and the 1850s and 60s just happen to be my favourite time period in fashion history. Like set a book then just to describe the dresses favourite. Like I dress like that every day favourite. So many more clothes for these girls will follow.

These girls were bought second hand on ebay, shortly before last Christmas (2022), and they arrived with very loose limbs. I fixed Marie Grace, mostly, but I quite hate scooping out their innards, so Cécile will probably stay loose. Queen of sitting down.

Cécile’s Parlor Set is the only piece of doll furniture I own, so I thought I’d actually photograph Marie-Grace and Cécile with it! The desk has its special place on my doll shelf, but it rarely gets used now for props due to my limited doll space.

Doll show haul!!!! Only the outfit are what I got today!

First up we have Nicki wearing the Earth day tie die shirt I found for $3. She was my buddy all day today, and I think this shirt suits her so well!

Next up we have Marie-Grace in Kirsten’s Midsummer dress. I think this dress looks great on Marie-Grace, though I honestly might try it on Cecile next.

Then we have Molly in her after school outfit! I almost squealed when I saw this. I love this set so much.

Next up Addy! I’m so glad I finally have another outfit for her, even if it’s only her other meet dress!

Then I found Samantha’s coat for $5 and got super excited.

And finally, the best find of the day, Samantha’s bathing costume (the 1997 version) in complete condition, for $40. This has been one of my “only if I find a good deal, but MAN I want it” outfits. So it’s awesome to have it now!

Hello everyone! Happy summer! I’ve been super busy with life stuff, but today I made time to change all of my dolls out of their winter clothing into their summer clothing! I am hopeful that I will get to take photos of them before the summer is over. I hope you have a great day!

In the summer of 1853, a terrible epidemic of yellow fever swept through New Orleans, leaving thousands of children orphaned. Marie-Grace and Cécile help ease the burden by volunteering at the Holy Trinity Orphanage and the Children of Mercy Orphanage. Together they help feed, nurture, and care for the children. But Marie-Grace is called away suddenly when Océane, her uncle’s fianceé, becomes ill with yellow fever. Since Uncle Luc is not allowed into the women’s hospital, Océane has no one to care for her. Marie-Grace comes to the rescue, and lovingly cares for her beloved soon-to-be aunt until she recovers. 

In Marie-Grace Makes a Difference, the last book in her series, Marie-Grace wears this white dotted dress in two illustrations. It also shows up in her paper dolls, labeled Marie-Grace’s Summer Dress. This was never released as part of her collection, so I made my own version by piecing together a few different sewing patterns. It was so much easier to make than I expected it to be. It also nicely matches the straw hat and boots from her summer outfit.

Mine is a little different--it’s missing the third row of ruffles on the skirt. I ran out of fabric, so once I obtain some more of it I’ll add the last ruffle. I was just too excited to wait to introduce it! This is definitely my favorite dress that I’ve made for her. I’m sure it’s so light and pleasant to wear during the hot and humid New Orleans summers, when the only relief from the heat is sitting in the shade with your bestie!
