UNVEIL THE CORE ESSENCE OF YOUR BEING, PERSONALITY, AND PURPOSE WITH TAROT CARDS

Introduction:

We understand all Tarot cards as symbols. They essentially represent different aspects of our lives that reside in our souls and our subconscious minds. When we read Tarot cards, we are reading our energy, we are intuitively looking at our subconscious. We think of them as a mirror that reflects the multiple dimensions of our spirit to help us understand situations much better, and make our life more conscious and meaningful.

What are Tarot birth cards?

Tarot birth cards are symbols that shape our identity and lives from the moment we are born. They are our essence, an energy imprint, or even a map - like a birth chart but for Tarot cards- that can unlock a new understanding of ourselves, and all the potential of our life purpose.

Each of us has a pair of Major Arcana cards that represent our core self, so today I decided to explain all combinations. I explained the cards separately so you can combine them and see intuitively how they play out in your life.

Also, be noted that I only explain the "light" manifestation of each of them. So for example, if it says "selfless" the shadow aspect/backward expression of them is the opposite, "selfish". Or if it says "truth-seeker" its shadow would be "know-it-all". If you are curious about the shadow aspect of your birth cards or anything about them you can send me a question and I'll be happy to help.

How do I calculate mine?

The easiest way for me is to use the same method that we use to calculate our Life path number in numerology:

We add each digit of our birth date

m+m+d+d+y+y+y+y

Example: 11/22/1989

1+1+2+2+1+9+8+9= 33

2. We reduce it

3+3= 6

6 is The Lovers and The Devil (6 and 15).

As you can see, we got a pair of numbers that corresponds to a pair of Major Arcana cards.

important: IF YOU GET A 19, YOU HAVE TO REDUCE IT TWICE AND YOU´LL GET 3 MAJOR ARCANA: 19 (The Sun) -> 1+9=10 (The Wheel of Fortune) -> 1+0=1 (The Magician).

1 and 10: The Magician, The Wheel of Fortune

The Magician: This energy has the ability to manifest anything. Your essence is skilled, cunning, tricky, scheming. You posses autonomy and initiative. You are an independent thinker. You have a great potential, but you also put in the work and have a lot of fun in the process. You are diplomatic and you reject bias. Entrepreneur. Self-motivated. You are honest and direct.

The Wheel of Fortune: You are lucky or at least, you know how to feel lucky to attract blessings. You understand the cycles of life and therefore you have the ability to co-create with the Universe intelligently. You often get surprised by the events in your life. You know how to use opportunities in your favor. Manifesting is something that you probably did consciously since young.

19: The Sun (ALSO READ 1 AND 10)!

Adding to 1 and 10 cards, The Sun supplies your soul of creativity, popularity, happiness, honesty, harmony and serenity. You are a good friend. You are loyal and bring harmony, love and satisfaction to everyone´s lives. You are a leader, a celebrity, and people look up to you.

2 and 11: The High Priestess, Justice

The High Priestess: You are sensitive and wise. You are aware of the subtle, small details. You are able to find the point of unity, the basics of the Universe, and you understand how everything is connected. You are intuitive, compassionate, and loving. You excel at anything related to the occult, the mysteries of the Universe and human psyche, and anything related to relationships, unions, and secrets.

Justice: You are unbiased, rational, harmonious. You know what´s right and what´s wrong and trust in natural order and the balance of things. You value truth more than anyone else. You are good with law, philosophy, and karma.

2 and 20: The High Priestess, Judgment

Same qualities above for the High Priestess, combined with Judgment.

Judgment: The Judgment card adds in to the HP themes of awakening, spirituality, renovation. You may be someone who questions the status quo and the established norms and structures. You have the calling to awaken other people so you can rebuild and improve the system. You could connect to different dimensions and be a medium or have psychic abilities. You are otherworldly. You are also highly empathetic and sensitive.

3 and 12: The Empress, The Hanged Man

The Empress: You enjoy helping other people, creating, and giving birth to something. You embody kindness, intelligence, expressiveness, communication and abundance. You are dynamic and could be good at doing many things, you likely do all at the same time. You are good at communicating your ideas with others and you give others creative insights.

The Hanged Man: You are artistic, original, altruistic and idealistic. You see the world from a different perspective and you always contribute with clever ideas. You are witty and have the potential to become a genius. You are generous.

3 and 21: The Empress, The World

Here the qualities of the Empress are combined with those of The World card, so your creativity results in perfection, success, wholeness, finding your place in the world, feeling and being rewarded, self-realization. You are someone generous who help people with their creations and you make them realize their special place in the world as well. You are greatly admired. You are positive about people and life.

4 and 13 : The Emperor, Death

The Emperor: You are gifted with stability, strength, structure and practicality. You are powerful, hard-working and generous. You have integrity and good morals. You protect what needs protection and give structure and functionality to things. You are methodical and pragmatic.

Death: Death combined with the Emperor can reestructure and make radical changes to the world. You know when things need to die and be rebirthed in new forms. You can transform the world with authority, integrity and diligency.

In case you got 4 and 22, The 22 can be considered The Fool. You can either consider the Fool along with The Emperor and Death, or only read the explanation above and dismiss it. If you choose to consider the Fool, read below:

The Fool: I picture it as if you were the Emperor but with a good sense of humor, carefree, crazy, not making sense at times, chaotic, and extravagant. It makes me think of "dad jokes". You do not take anything too seriously. You restructured things spontaneously and the result may not make a lot of sense. Or it could be that you make more of a freedom-oriented restructure/change. You are an innocent and energetic leader. Maybe you don´t even understand why people may see you as a leader or follow you, because you don´t even take yourself seriously and are very disorganized, lol.

(edit): When I was writing about this combo, the new president of Argentina Javier Milei came to my mind. He talks about re-structuring the country, making economic transformations, solving the problems of the economy and poverty, and changing the country for the better. But he also has a silly personality, he's kinda funny and people make fun of him, they call him crazy, they even speculate about him having mental illnesses, and he doesn't make sense to A LOT of people. At that time I was lazy to search for his number but I just did and you know what? He is a 4 and a 22. 😳

5 and 14: The Hierophant, Temperance

The Hierophant: You are a teacher, someone wise who shares their knowledge and wisdom. You are patient, merciful, and modest. You guide others to goodness. You respect religion, tradition and family structures with open-mindedness and flexibility. You see everything as an experience and adventure and you like exploring different philosophies without getting attached.

Temperance: You can adapt to different people, ideas and environments, and you can bring different people together with peace, harmony and respect. You have the ability to solve conflicts. This combo makes a mentor, a guru, or a coach. You are balanced in logic and emotions and you are seen as mature.

6 and 15 (or 33): The Lovers, The Devil

The Lovers: Opposite forces, love, complements. You know how to love, not only other people but the whole Universe. You are a sensual person. You appreciate beauty, art and can excel at many different things. You are a gentle person who is good at making decisions that brings in the frequency of love to your environment. Everything you do is coded with love and passion.

The Devil: You are passionate, magnetic. You border limits. You are highly influential in whatever you do. You can control and manipulate others, which is not necessarily a bad thing, it´s just that you understand human psychology and can easily get the attention of others. With this combo you can captivate, tempt and induce lust and desire in others, so you may be working in art, music, writing, marketing, design, even animation and programming.

I also like to think of The Lovers as oxytocin and The Devil as adrenaline/dopamine. Dopamine and oxytocin together make love and bring new life into the world.

7 and 16: The Chariot, The Tower

The Chariot: You are someone intelligent, energetic, analytic, and introspective, who fights for radical changes and the evolution of society. You are a truth-seeker. You are fearless. You challenge the status quo and strive for spiritual and material progress. You are curious and love to learn new things that can change the world for the better.

The Tower: You mercilessly and strongly destruct what doesn´t serve the evolution of society and humanity. You break the equilibrum to build a better one. You are a rebel. You know that the truth always comes to light, and you also make it happen. You show the world what they couldn´t see and that's why you could be triggering. But it´s for the good. You challenge wrong convictions, judgments and beliefs, and you completely destruct them.

8 and 17: Strength, The Star

Strength: You are someone resilient. You know the importance of controlling your actions, impulses, thoughts, emotions and everything you do with mental strength and intelligence. You know that if you manage your own forces, you can achieve all of your goals and also help others do the same. You are very determined and optimistic. You like to work hard, not only for yourself but for others. You are an example of the word management and you like being in charge.

The Star: You give others hope and enlightment. You are inspiring. You can provide a lot of healing and regeneration. You are selfless and generous. You are strong in faith, and that way you can give others the reassurance that they need. You see the good in everything and that is what helps you get you good results and be succesful.

9 and 18: The Hermit, The Moon

The Hermit: You are interested in seeing what others can´t see. You look through things. You are deeply intuitive and contemplative. You search for answers in yourself by being in silence, in solitude, and looking inwards at your subconscious mind. You are wise, capable of offering advice and solving problems or mysteries. You are the healer who heals yourself first. You are personally uninterested in worldly matters and detached from the material.

The Moon: You can see through illusions and imagination because you connect to the dream realm. You are a good psychoanalyst. You are good with the occult. You are attracted to the unknown. You are a researcher, a detective, a healer of the most mysterious diseases. You are deeply spiritual and adventurous.

Carl Jung had this combo as his birth cards and I think this quote from him really represents it: Who looks outside dreams (The Moon), who looks inside awakes (The Hermit). The funny thing is, I didn´t know he had them when I read it and thought about the cards, but I was sure he had to be and I searched it, lol. I also have these as my cards so...

TOP 10 favourite AA fanfics? (if you have one)

Oh hello xD That's a great blog name! Does that mean more questions will follow ._.?

Anyways, my reading speed has taken a nosedive as of late; too many things have been going on and I'm trying to stick to my own writing schedule too... so my recs remain mostly the same as the previous times I've been asked. Still, here are a few of my faves:

Bury Me in the Shadows of Spring & My Yellow Light in Your Soft Whispers by @annawayne . Features some of the most compelling story-telling I've ever seen. The former is a historic AU set in the 1920s and holy shit the immersion? Anna comes armed with a deep, impressive knowledge base of history and so the fic takes you straight back in time, as if you were standing in the time period itself. BMSS is a story carrying very heavy themes, and the dive into the character's psyches is simply stellar.

As for the latter, a post-canon fic set 10 years after the Rumbling, MYLYSW is a story that takes an in-depth study into the ways that an intensely traumatic event can affect people - both the victims and of those around them. It's a wonderful telling of grief, heartache, unresolved ghosts from the past, with stunning imagery and descriptive writing. :3

Black Water & everything else in @distortedclouds 's collection. BW is, as another reader very aptly put it, the single best take I've seen on Annie's relationship with her father, and how it affects Aruani's relationship. Clouds' mastery in prose and narration is on a whole other level, and every chapter literally hurts your bones. Aside from that, all the other fics in the collection are simply wonderful reads, with everything ranging from fluff to angst to smut and everything in between! My wife is very talented you see :3 Unparalleled!

Little Bird by @aquietjune . Simply a fantastic Annie-centric post-canon story, with writing skills that simply leave you in awe. June takes a deep dive into many of Annie's issues and problems that are still left unresolved, though the world may be rid of titans. Her dedication to period-appropriate research, and the how's and why's of in-world problems make the story a truly delightful experience, and coupled with her talent of being able to tell so much in so few words, this remains one of the best post-canon fics I've ever read. Please also check out her other works, she has an uncanny ability to make you laugh until your sides hurt xD

Coveted by @honeytheriot . One of the first aruani fics I read after the S4 P3 P1 dropped in March 2023, and holy shit xD Every chapter is a smut-filled goodness and delight, and honeyriot makes it WORK with her writing!

Children of War by @/SeaTempest . Primarily a Jeanpiku fic with Aruani as a side-couple, this fic features some of the best writing I've ever seen. Smooth prose and convincing post-canon world-building, plus very good character monologues?? Hell yeah. Hasn't been updated in a while, but has plenty of content, absolutely worth a read.

Tater Tots & Heavy Thoughts by Anonymous and everything in this collection. TT&HT is a modern AU Aruani fic primarily from Armin's POV, dealing with some very dark and heavy subject matter. The writing is really good, and while I haven't caught upto later chapters, I highly recommend it. The other fics in the collection are great too :3

There are many more tbh, but my head is mushy for the moment xD However, I'll add some fics I've been following as of late!

on the path that led me to you by @the-last-thread-of-my-sanity & By Each Crime and Kindness (I'm bound to you) by @aruanimess - two Cadet Aruani fics taking place that are an absolute delight to read! Wonderful writing, wonderful characterization, lots of fluff, and the impending doom of angst~

Who painted the sky? by @dudewhy3 & Hiding in Plain Sight by @midnightraine131, two Modern AU fics that take a look into the issues Aruani deal with from their past, in a modern real-world setting. Engaging and fun, with sprinkles of heavy angst now and then.

A Force To Be Reckoned by @luciensdefenseattorney . Inspired by Bridgerton, this is a wonderfully written and highly engaging Aruani fic set in the regency era. You just want Armin and Annie to kiss and find out all about each other already.

Legends by @mimiwrites2000-fun . Canon-divergence and wonderfully written, this is an Aruani fic spanning 32 chapters and counting! Lots of emotional, heart-wrenching moments, Mimi is a writer who embraces angst with a passion and doesn't shy away from hurting you T^T

drowning

initially written april 23, 2020. a character study of the fear stein quoted in the manga. posting this along with other things from old places just to have some of my writing samples up. this one is fairly dark, please be warned.

drabble takes place after his partnership with spirit dissolved.

please heed the content warnings: nightmares, night terrors, hallucinations, sleep paralysis, psychosis.

"I was scared of the kind of person I was turning into. Although as long as I was having fun, I didn't really care. So that's why I needed it. Not an annoying system put up by a king to serve his own self interests... but a system set up by a god without arrogance."

Losing awareness of reality was the scariest part of his daily life. No longer did he have a grip on even the most basic of facts. He never did, when nightfall came. His own voice was foreign on his tongue, his thoughts swarming around less concrete than they were furious and invasive hornets, his skin a fake elastic covering that was so restrictive he wanted nothing more than to tear it apart and liberate himself.

The darkened ceiling above his bed was the only thing he knew for certain. The shadows dancing on the walls turned into demons that threatened his life, but he could not focus on them or their harsh whispers lest he dive even more into his broken psyche.

There was no comfort here. The warrior that drove the monsters just far away enough for him to know they were not a threat and comforted him after it was all over was gone. It had been pried out of his grasp so forcefully he stumbled backwards and fell flat on his back, left to try to fight this battle alone.

To lose this battle alone.

Was there a point in fighting?

"Give in," they urged, forcing him down into a black lake until his lungs caught fire and filled with smoke. The ceiling was gone. "Give in."

He reached out for his partner, searching desparately for something to hold onto, but the warmth he sought was slipping away.

"No," he choked out, the bitter taste of the inky water passing through his lips. "Don't go. Come back. Please come back."

The telepathic response that would usually come in the form of a comforting voice and radiant light did not return for him. His weapon, his only connection to real life, was nowhere to be found. The familiar wavelength that he had relied on for so long to fall back on had disappeared. It left him walking the tightrope of sanity with no safety net, and he had tripped over his own two feet and taken a plunge into absolute hell.

The monsters' arms grabbed at him, painfully wrapping around his waist and his arms and his torso and pulling him further and further under no matter how much he thrashed.

"I need you, Spirit!" he screamed, exhaustion zapping the strength away from his muscles and making it that much harder to stay above the surface. "I need you! Come back, damn it! Come back! I can't do this alone! Don't let this happen to me!"

With still no rescue, he was dragged into the depths, his fingers that grasped at nothing the last to go.

And just like that, it was quiet. Nothingness surrounded him, deafening silence taking away even the ability to ponder what he had become.

Everything was gone. It was by no means a complete relief, not like Spirit, but it was better than his struggle.

Perhaps madness wasn't so bad, after all.

But when the light disappears from your life, like shadows, the distractions fade away, and you’re left with just yourself and the darkness. So I guess the song is about moving past the fear of the shadows; you can see in the light so that you don’t end up sitting alone in the dark." On the video, band member, Fuson offers: "We all acted in the video, but we also did the set design and all the props. Since it was a super small budget, we had to wear a bunch of hats to afford to pay the people who were good at their jobs, haha. The director Vanessa Pla also made some mean carnitas for the crew. What's in a name? (Analysing all the names in stranger things)

*I'll be repeating some names more than once as I break down categories .

Show , book, and tv easterggs

Alot of character names may have deeper meaning but some are also refs to stories they liked. The stranger writers twitter posted a list of movies said to inspire s4 (which I’ll be referencing).

Dart- dustin names him this after d'artagenean (a 3 musketeers book character) and one of Dustin's fav candies (3 muskateers). Similarly his pet turtle yurtle is implied to be named after the dr Seuss’ story 'yertle the turtle'.

Brenner- main character from 'the birds', which was on the st s4 list.

Byers- john byers from x files. The duffers mentioned x files was an inspo for the show. Although John byers (from x files) resembles Murray as an unhinged conspiracy theorist. The documentary paradise lost was also cited as inspo for st- john byers and his son, terry, Michael, and Steve were names in said film

Jim Hopper- in Predator (another st inspo) he was a soldier who was flayed to death in the woods. Another character in the film with a similar fate was “Hawkins”.

Detective Wheeler and elle Holloway- from silent Hill franchise. Another ref mentioned by the Duffers. Holloway was the surname of st's Heather. Elle (is el) and Wheeler is Mike's surname. Wheeler was also on the ep of twiglight zone (another cited ref by the duffers) . In the ep 'mute' sheriff wheeler takes in a mute psychic girl as his foster daughter. So some hints at hopper too . Hopper even mentions el-anor (gilipse) in s1. The surname of a main character in the silent hill series.Lt. Colonel Sullivan (s4) could be a eastergg of silent hill 4 which had a Sullivan character.

Henderson- st twitter mentioned how all the bond films were on the s4 inspiration list . So Dustin's surname being the same as one of the bond characters is a nod. Duffers also mentioned ‘freaks & geeks’ as inspo- and 1 character’s surname was also Henderson (another nod).

Mrs Driscoll (from s3) - a nod to invasion of the body snatchers which was mentioned as inspo by the Duffers. And clear inspo for s3.

Powell (cop and partner of hopper ) - diehard films also on s4 list. He's named after the cop powell.

Callahan (cop and partner of Hopper) - father Callahan ref. He shows up in many of Stephen King novels. The Duffers have cited over 10 novels and books from him as inspo for st

Nancy- she's called ‘Nancy drew’ (from the novels). And the duffers have mentioned they are fans of elmstreet - who's main character was Nancy. Nancy also references 'Oliver twist" ,and that book has a character named Nancy in it. Nancy was also a first Lady in the 80s similar to her friend Barbara- who was also a first Lady in the 80s.Nancy's name might also be inspired by "Nancy Wheeler", a secondary character in the 1970 book Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret written by Judy Blume.

Fred (s4)- apparently a high-school journalist who may be friend or foe. This one is a stretch but given nancy maybe being an elmstreet ref- and her enemy being fred-die kreuger. Fred may have animosity to Nancy and that's why his name is Fred. I mean ... they even cast a new s4 character with Freddie kreuger's original actor.so...

Jason (s4) - is in the 1986 Nancy drew novel (when s4 takes place). He is similar to the duffers description. In the novel he's a rich, popular, arrogant jock and blackmailing students at the high-school . S3 even named one of its episodes after a nancy drew novel- so wouldn't surprise me.

Christie carpenter (s4/reffed in s1 by hopper)- christie is the main character in the hellraiser series (which is on the s4 st list). Carpenter is the surname of the director of 'the thing' name dropped in s3. (The flesh monster in s3 also resembles the thing) , and in s1 mr clarke watches it ,and mike has the thing movie poster in his basement.

Argyle (s4) - die hard 1-2 were on the s4 st list. And is a name of a diehard character.

Max- her name is 'mad max' like the 80s film. But since the Duffers like videogames. Her name may be a ref to max caufield from the ‘life is strange’ game as well. She has a 'never Maxine rule' similar to max in st. But the game character is similar to jonathan as she is a teen photographer and says similar words to jonathan in s1 saying she would rather watch people through a camera than interact with them.

Eddie munson (s4)- not going to lie. I have no proof of this but I immediately thought of the TV character Eddie Munster (the friendly monster ).

Possible comic book easteggs

The duffers are no stranger to comic book references. The duffers have already directly reffed xmen, wonderwoman, and green lantern. Kali's place also has a comic book ref to 'the invisibles' on the wall. While the s4 movie list mentions thor ragnock , age of ultron, and 2 batman films. Some of these refs will go over your head if you haven't read my DID theory. But a lot of this analysis will still be enjoyable. :)

Jane st ives (jane ives aka el). marvel. (jane st ives sees her dad k*ll her mom and vows revenge against him.Sort of similar to what brenner did to terry).

Stephanie harrington (Steve harrington)- 80s marvel comic. DP.7. Will DID ref. Antibody, is a medical resident who can project from his body a dark figure of himself (also called an "antibody", a word play on the medical term) that flies, can become intangible, and transfer its memories to another person by physical contact (mindflayer). He later merges with the antibody. like how susie refs ‘wizard of earthsea’ -the novel where the young wizard Ged releases a shadow monster (said to be an ancient evil) but it turns out to be the dark aspects of his personality and the only way for the chaos to stop is to accept his darkness and merge as 1.

Barry bauman (Murray bauman) . marvel comics - Will did easteregg.Bauman lived in never ending darkness. He felt, that there was a realm outside the darkness and started to explore the entire content of his brain thus using now more than the usual 10 % .Also had telekinesis.He turned his attention to the stars in order to exact revenge on the human race which spends billions of dollars to kill each other, but wouldn't spend the mere million or so it would have cost to cure him. For his vengeance he transported the suns near our galaxy into his omnipotent brain. As the people of Earth would learn of the disappearing of the suns they would panic and feel Bauman's loneliness before he would destroy Earth.Despite the death of his physical body, Bauman's consciousness somehow survived and began hopping from body to body throughout the galaxy, his powers growing until the Star Thief was recognized as a major threat to galactic society.

Sinclair- last name of xmen rhaine. Will Did ref. storyline Rahne Sinclair is mentally bonded to Havok against her will(Will/mf).She is subsequently manipulated by the Shadow King. Her bond with Havok causes her to act irrationally, sometimes threatening teammates, sometimes by flirting with them. She undergoes more than one attempt to undo the bonding, with varying results. Her instability also manifests in many odd dreams, in which her identity is merged into pop culture figures. What’s funny is charlie heaton (jonathan byers) was just in an xmen movie with this Rhaine character.

Victor creel (s4)-sounds like mutant victor creed of the xmen comic. x men Mutant with ab*sive dad and poor socioeconomic background. He had a "birthday tradition" of ab*sing his young relatives on their birthdays. Which reminds me of Lonnie making jonathan cry for a week (because he forced him to k*ll a rabbit on his b-day). Not to mention Lonnie is prob coming back for Will’s b day in s4... so... the name is prob a ref to that ‘birthday tradition’. Could also be a stephen king reference -since Duffers love him. The Creel family was in sk’s book “pet cemetary’-which fun fact (the actress who plays El’s aunt is in the recent remake)!

Yuri (s4)-Yuri Topolov (Russian: Юрий Тополов) was a Soviet scientist and the first foe of the Hulk.

Dimitri (s4)-Dmitri Bukharin was born in Kuibyshev, Russia (some sources say Moscow). First appeared in Iron man.

Peter ballard ( s4 character) may just be a hellfire ref . since I guy with last name ballard was a double agent for the hellfire club (name of st s4 ep 1). And ballard means bald which the actor is certainly not lol. I don't think he's literally associated with hellfire but its just a ref. And because its implied in his st character summary despite working for the mental hospital-where brenner is most likely at- he's horrified by the treatment of the psych patients. So that may be where the double agent aspect would come into play.

Ian Hargrove (billy hargrove)- batman comics. had a history of mental health problems dating back to childhood, which his parents were unable to afford treatment for. His brother John hargrove tried to keep him out of trouble but Ian developed an uncanny talent for explosives (will the wise fire powers). He ends up at Archam asylum. Cough billy is Will's alter. Why he has the name billy (a nickname for William) . Jonathan in s2 mentions how he likes the writer vonnegut- who wrote slaughter house 5- the main character was Billy. Already mentioned how it connects to my did theory .

Jason carver (s4)- carver is the last name of the comic hero thunderbolt (in the flash)-the first name of thunderbolt is Will and his brother is named Lonnie. There was also a John carver in the comic.

Holland (barb's last name) last name of Swamp thing. I think its plot has quite a few s4/5 spoilers but Im not diving into it right now.

Names associated with religions or mythology

(if you’ve read my DID theory- some themes will appear relevant in relation WIll’s alters or to WIll’s past/tr*uma).

-‘Kali prasad".Kali is the name of a Hindu goddess . Kali’s iconography and mythology commonly associate her with death, violence, s*xuality, but also paradoxically -motherly love. In myths ‘she only k*lls demons’ and is described as ‘overflowing with incomprehensible love for her children’ - (aka ST’s Kali k*lling people from hawkins lab for hurting kids). Her third eye stands for wisdom (like Will the wise).Kali is called at times ‘ the bright fire of truth’ (will the wise/fire powers).The devotee makes her image in his heart and under her influence burns away all limitations and ignorance in the cremation fires. This inner cremation fire in the heart is the gyanagni (fire of knowledge), which kali bestows (cough Will the wise-fire powers). The goddess also could create a darkcloud of lightning (similar to the mf). The phrase “brilliant as a dark cloud” is a snippet of one such prayer dedicated to Kali.The name Kali is derived from the Hindu word that means “time”. Kali receives her name because she devours ‘kala’ (Time)- like clocks ticking when El sees demogorgan/clock being wonky when Will see mf/clocks in s4 promos.’ After devouring time she resumes her own dark formlessness. “This transformative effect can be metaphorically illustrated in the West as a black hole in space” (cough mf cough hopper blackhole/time refs). Kali’s s2 butterfly-“Kali is the Hindu goddess associated with eternal energy. ... The cocoon, butterfly and the karmic golden wheel reflect Her deep connection with life.”And Prasād (her last name) is a material substance that is a religious offering to gods in Hinduism .

-While, EL is the name of a Cannanite (male) god associated with “salt water “ (pool filled with salt in s1) who “dwelled in a tent” (in s1 Mike’s blanket fort) .And his gray-beard was described as " "full of wisdom.” él’ in Spanish means ‘he’- which could be a nod at her ( androgynous) presentation in s1. El can also be translated to "God" or 'god'. The el character has various mythologies depending on which culture/ religion is using the term 'el'. In the post-biblical period, "el" became a regular element in the names of angels such as "Gabri·el," "Micha·el," and "Azri·el," to denote their status as divine beings.And Jane translates to " Yahweh (god) is gracious/merciful". The cannanite god El was also dubbed “Compassionate God of Mercy.” Earlier, a ninth century B.C.E. inscription identifies Ēl- the name of the Babylonian water god Ea, lord of the watery subterranean abyss (cough watery dark void in st). Terry (el’s mom-aka Teressa) was originally used in the Middle Ages for a “child baptized in holy water” (El in the sensory water tank/Terry used it too,according to Becky in s1). Eleanor (called this in s1)- can mean "sun ray" (possible the opposite of the ‘shadow monster’ or Kali who can represent a “black hole”).

-Will-the s4 st movie lists (‘red dragon’, gods of monsters, & ‘blade runner’ ) mention the artist and writer William Blake (specifically his painting of the angel michael fighting a dragon in revelations - reffed in st s1). He was one of many painters part of the exhibition of “ The World Turned Upside Down: Apocalyptic Imagery.”The World Turned Upside Down explores the myriad ways that artists in England visualized the apocalypse in a period fraught with political, religious, economic, and cultural change.

During this period Blake was commissioned to create over a hundred paintings intended to illustrate books of the Bible along with revelations . He also drew illustrations for the novel Dante’s inferno. Blake’s brutally satirizes oppressive authority in church and state.He said those who proclaim restrictive moral rules and oppressive laws as “goodness” are in themselves evil. Hence to counteract this repression, Blake announces that he is of the “Devil’s Party” (cough hellfire club ref-and dissing the satanic panic of the hellfire club and other marginilised groups) . He also says “men forgot that All deities reside in the human breast.” So Instead of looking for God on remote altars, Blake warns, man should look within.He produced a diverse and symbolically rich œuvre, which embraced the “imagination as “the body of God.” He wrote his own stories based on biblical writings- one includes the fire wielding character of Los (will the wise) who represented jesus. Los (like jesus does in revelations) causes the destruction of the world and the second judgment unfolds. The poem ends with Los’s unfallen state rising up and shepherding in science and removing the dark religions. I also talked about how this story ‘book of los’ hints at the DID theory-but this is getting long-so you can just read the explanation here if interested. Also, hellooo Both names are William B(yers/lake). Billy (a alter of Will-sharing the name William) in s3 he even wore “lady of pillar” medallion- i.e about jesus/mary.

JOHN (supposedly Jesus’ blood relative- who wrote ‘revelations’.) In scripture John was called “the disciple whom Jesus loved as a brother” .Fire is the most typical element associated with the Saint John's Eve celebration (Jonathan did light the demogorgan on fire). Many scholars consider John & Jesus ("apocalyptic prophets"). Jonathan itself translates to " yahweh (god ) has given" in Hebrew.

Michael- Similar to kali, he’s a religious figure known for killing demons. He’s the arch-angel from the book of revelations (Apocalypse). A evil Beast (with seven heads usually translated to ‘satan’ or ‘dragon’) appears .“it was a 7″ causes Will to be attacked by the demogorgan ( which in d&d is a demon with multiple heads). The Archangel MICHAEL fought and defeated this 7 headed beast/satan. Corresponding with Mike at the end of s1 writing a fictional d&d story for Will (based off defeating the demogorgan) which was about helping kill a 7 HEADED MONSTER! Michael is also the archangel who oversees on Earth the natural element of fire (Mike telling Will the wise to use ‘fireball’ to defeat this same 7 headed monster in the game, at the end of s1)! Ironically though Jesus /Christian god is also associated with 7s a lot (he has 7 angels and during the apocalypse causes 7 plagues , he has 7 candles etc .)cause the number seven, represented ‘perfection’ according to ancient numerology . Will’s b day is March 22- (3) +2+2 =7 (“it was a 7”). Will’s bday even falls in what christians call “the holy week”( the week immediately preceding Easter.) At the end of s1 they even defeat this 7 headed monster because Will rolls a 14 (which can be broken down into two 7s). Michael & William also have 7 letters in each of their names respectively- equating to this 14. This dragon biblical story (of Michael) is also William blake’s most popular painting. Also, random fact in revelations god has a rainbow throne (with thunder /lightning -will the wise powers- coming from the throne, and seven lit torches next to it ) . He also wears a rainbow halo. Lol. Michael also roughly translates to ( 'Who like el?' The answer being roughly translated to ' no one like el' ... which i mean literally is saying there is no one similar to her. But I still think its a linguistic pun/ burn that Mike is not actually into El romantically).

Jim (James) hopper- According to the s3 script Hopper’s real name is James. JAMES (JIM) was an apostle to jesus- brother of john. And in the bible was called a ’son of thunder ’. Will’s powers/ hopper being an alter of Will's so technically brother of jonathan and thunder powers. Not to mention David on Instagram saying hopper has " he has risen. like bread" is a Jesus ref to 'he has risen"... even the bread ref could be a catholic ref to the last supper.

Martin Brenner/marsha holland- have their first name reference the roman god Mars who was originally a ‘thunder or storm deity’ (will the wise/mf powers). EL (in cannanite mythology) also allowed Baal the storm god to rule the entire earth.

ROBIN- was the God of Thunder’s- Thor’s- favorite bird. And Dustin also means ‘Thor’s stone.’The red belly robin is also an important bird in Christianity. Legend has it that the robin got its red belly from a fire in which it was trying to protect Jesus. Robin also name drops the greek god prometheus- the god of fire (will the wise) who brought human beings life and knowledge. And Steve looks at Robin and says "let there be light" a biblical passage. The robin represents selflessness for a higher truth.

Barb- Saint BARBara- dad kept her locked away from the outside world (like el/brenner) . He tried to k*ll her when he learned she didn’t believe in his religion- so the dad was punished by “god” who electrocuted him with lightning/lit him on fire. (Will the wise powers).

Nancy- is derived from a medieval diminutive of Annis, an English form of Agnes. There’s the christian saint Agnes- who was beautiful and from a wealthy family. She was the Christian saint of girls and v*rginity . And the duffers subverted this along with the problematic horror movie trope of the ' v*rgin female heroine surviving while her more se*ually liberated female friends are punished by the villain' ( by having her survive specifically because she decided to have s*x).Agnes was also led out and bound to a stake, but (allegedly) the bundle of wood would not burn, or the flames parted away from her (will the wise fire powers). Also people claimed that any man who tried to r*pe her was struck blind.

Hopper's wife’s name -Dianne- is also the roman goddess of ,nature, hunting and wild animals( and greek equivalent to Artemis) .Becky means ‘snare’ -for hunting animals .Teressa (Terry) means ' huntress'. The name was originally used in the Middle Ages for a child baptized in holy water . Name of 2 saints-Teresa of Avila and Therese of Lisieux. Lonnie’s gf (Cynthia) was originally an epithet of the Greek goddess Artemis, as well.

Power couple Angela & jake (s4) - Angela means 'messenger of God". And Jake (also means ”supplanter”) is derived from jacob. Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebecca in genesis. El’s aunt,Becky (Rebecca) is wife of isaac.Other theories claim that Jacob is in fact derived from a hypothetical name like יַעֲקֹבְאֵל (Ya'aqov'el) meaning "may God protect".The name jacob is also where the names James/jim is derived from.

couple Steve spies on in s3- Anna Jacobi & Mark Lewinsky. Anna ( name of the mother of the Virgin Mary) Jacobi ("he who supplants"-aka same meaning as jim since both names are derived from jacob). Mark (”the god mars”-same meaning as martin brenner) .Lewinsky (lion-same name meaning as Lonnie). Also derived from the Hebrew root לוי‎ (leví, “priest”)

Joyce means "lord". Could also be a ref to the ('unofficial') saint Joyce who gave up wealth to live in poverty.

Ted-is the short form of the names Theodore and Edward. Theodore is a Greek name meaning "gift of God", Edward has an English origin and means "wealthy guard." Eddie (from s4) also means ‘wealthy guard”

Holly (nancy and Mike's sis)- Holly meanings are 'One who is pious' or 'sacred'

Karen- can be short for Katherine-one of the first christian saints.”Saint Katherine of the Wheel “(er). A 4th century martyr who suffered t*rture on a spiked wheel. Wheeler does mean ‘occupational name for a maker of wheels’ after all.

Gospel of LUKE (lucas?) , or simply Luke, tells of the origins, birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ.

Sinclair- Catholic saint of computers and TV screens (i mean... he is in the av club).

MAXimilian was deemed a saint in the 1980s- saint of journalists and radios. (Both aspects of s3)

Saint stephen/steven ( STEVE)-an early disciple and deacon . Considered one of the first m*rtyrs of the church.Stephen is first mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles as one of seven deacons appointed by the Apostles to distribute food (lol icecream) .According to Orthodox belief, he was the eldest and is therefore called “archdeacon”.

Sara- Her name is a feminine form of sar (Hebrew: שַׂר‎), meaning “chieftain” or “prince." She was the wife and sister of Abraham (ew -given her being an alter of Will though, such a name doesn’t surprise me). Similar to st Barabara’s dad - Abraham tried to k*ll his son isaac in the name of god. Becky (El's aunt) - is derived from Rebecca - wife of Isaac.

Claudia (Dustin's mom)- Christian woman of Rome greeted by Paul in his second letter to Timothy (in the bible).

Sam mayfield (max's dad) - Short for Samuel or Samantha, from the Biblical name Shemu'el, which means "God has heard", from the Hebrew shama, meaning "heard" and el, meaning "God". Samuel is rumored to be argyle first name.

Marsha Kelly (s4)- Kelly means "frequents churches" or " bright headed". Given she's a counselor the bright headed pun makes sense. But maybe she's not to be trusted if she frequents churches during a satanic panic arc which was fueled by Christian religious extremism . Or she's someone who contrasts the rest of the religious people in town since she's not originally from hawkins...who knows. x files’ main character was catholic but in one ep she criticized a small town for the satanic panic occurring-and says how accusing these kids who listen to rock as satanic or being k*llers is ludicrous.

Peter ballard (s4) - Peter was also the name of an apostle.

Tina (side character s2)- like christy (s4) it’s short for Christina which translates to "follower of christ" or 'stream'. Tina was the gal who hosted the t halloween party and also the name of one of Erica’s friends in s3.

Samantha (goth girl jonathan talks to in s2 party) translates to "told by god".

Tommy (s1-2) "God's gift" or "twin".Thomas is the Greek variation of the Aramaic name Ta’oma’. It came about because there were too many apostles named Judas; Jesus renamed one Thomas—meaning "twin"—to distinguish him from Judas Iscariot and the Judas also known as Thaddeus.

carol (tommy’s gf)- Carol is the short form of Caroline and the meaning is derived from the English vocabulary word for “song” or “hymn". A hymn being a religious song or poem.

Benny ( who helped El at his dinner) - originally derived from latin bennedictus which means "blessed"

Stacey (s2-3 ) rejected dustin at dance. Stacey- "resurrection "

Grigori (the guy following and tracking hopper, Joyce, and alexi)- The name was adopted by early Christians heedful of the Biblical passage located in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober-minded; be watchful."grigory now means 'watchful and vigalent'

Alexi- prob based on the russian folklore story of alexy. A clever priest's son who tricks a dragon.

Harrington- similar to Robin's religious animal iconography. Harrington means 'he goat'.The most popular image of the Satanic goat dates back to the ever-mysterious Knights of Templar, who were accused of worshipping an idol known as Baphomet (a 1/2 human 1/2 goat man). Given the fact s3 alluded to the satanic panic. A Christian movement in the 80s that demonized and said d&d ,rock music, homosexuality, other religions, stephen King,horror films, wearing black,and non conservative ideology were 'satanic.' I wouldn't be surprised by this possible ref. Heck even William Blake criticized similar religious movements in his own time period. Several movies from the s4 list allude to this. The most obvious being the documentary paradise lost (named after the fictional retelling of satan/adam and eve story) - the documentary directly focuses on a witch hunt of rock loving teens (wrongfully accused of m*rders) in a small town during the satanic panic. Not to mention ironically s4 is hinted to be around easter. So Using such symbolism to address religious fundamentalism and the bigotry/hysteria it can cause isn't surprising. No i’m not lumping all religious people into this negative category- obviously.

Hayes means "hedged area'.

Flowers

Flo (hopper's secretary)- means flower. Suzie- lily flower. Susan (Max’s mom)- means lily, lotus flower or rose. Karen (in Japanese can mean)- flower, lotus, or water lily. Heather is also a variety of small shrubs with pink or white flowers which commonly grow in rocky areas. Erica is a type of "heather" plant. martin/marsha: in the legend of Mars,his mother become pregnant with him using a magic flower- which was given to her by the goddess flora.

Bright (aka intelligent)

Bob- nickname of Robert . Both Bob and Robert mean 'bright, shinning or fame'. Aka smart -he's called ' Bob the brain ' for a reason.

Robin- is also diminutive of Robert . And we all know robin is smart too. Being multilingual/ cracking the code.Robin (like Robert) also means 'bright, shining , or fame.'

Lucas- means "bright" or "shinning" aka he's also a smart cookie. His firework plan saving the day.

Lonnie and Larry (the mayor) can both be nicknames for Lawrence which also means ' bright one' or 'shinning one'. Well... both are cunning I'll give them that. Lonnie is unfortunately ...smart. I think this detail had other foreshadowing. Joyce to Will about Will the wise ' if he's so wise why does he need the fireballs? can't he just outsmart the bad guys? " Will: " yeah. Usually. BUT sometimes the bad guys are smart too." I never understood why on earth Joyce would be with someone as awful as Lonnie in the first place- than be with his literal opposite Bob- but maybe she just found intelligence attractive?

Names associated with thunder/lightning/fire (Like Will/mf/Will the wise)

Byers-reprsents Greek Zeus (god of thunder/lightning). Martin - references the roman god Mars who was originally a ‘thunder or storm deity’ .ROBIN- was the German God of Thunder’s- Thor’s- favorite bird. And Dustin also means ‘Thor’s stone.’Jim- “son of thunder”. Christian god- has throne (surrounded by thunder /lightning). Kali- could summon thunder storms.Nancy/Barb-both saints associated with fire. Kali-is called at times ‘ the bright fire of truth’ /and bestows the fire of knowledge. Robin also name drops the greek god prometheus- the god of fire. Mars -the keeper of Rome's perpetual flame . The Robin bird in a Christian story myth protects Jesus from hell's fire. William Blake- wrote about a fire wielding character of Los who represented jesus. Jesus during end times wields fire. Michael is the archangel who oversees on Earth the natural element of fire. Fire is the most typical element associated with the Saint John's Eve celebration (Saint John- called Jesus’s brother).

Animals (and their symbolism)

Byers- means ‘ cattle shed’.The Greeks considered the bull animal totem to be a symbol of Zeus (god of thunder and lighting - will the wise powers). He is the head of the gods and the almighty ruler of Olympus. I”n hinduism, Shiva is known as Gorakhnath, means the lord of the cows. And is also known as, Pasupathinath, the lord of all animals (similar to Rhadaghast). According to some scholars, Shiva’s association with cows and bulls might date back to the Indus Valley period. Cows have a special significance in Hinduism, as aspects of Mother Goddess and as symbols of selfless service. Mahatma Gandhi declared the protection of cows a central feature of Hinduism.Hindus worship cows as the Mother Goddess and symbol of motherhood, kindness and forbearance.”

Tigers: (Sarah’s plushie/ Hawkin’s macott/ Will & Mike have tiger posters in their rooms): The goddess Kali & God Shiva wore a tiger skin (this fact was actually mentioned by Kali in the prequel novel ‘suspicious minds’ ).”In many tribal traditions of India, the tiger (or lion) is worshipped as a god. Robin- thor's fav bird/ helped Jesus from hell's fire.

Buckley- can also translate to " field filled with deer" (like the deer attacked by the demogrogan or the bambi film jon reffed in relation to the hunting story about lonnie).And Karen ( when from it’s Hebrew origins) can mean- antler or horn. Also the caananite God el was usually depicted with animal horns on his head.Diana in Roman art usually is accompanied by a hound (demo dog) or deer. Because of the story of her turning an attempted r*pist-hunter into a deer/ and then causing dogs to attack him. Deer is also one of the symbolic animals accepted since early Christianity as an allegory of Jesus Christ and the Christian Disciple. And when associated with Shiva (kali's husband) in Hindu iconography, the deer omen denotes sovereignty over nature and symbolizes the lord of all animals, humans, and the King of the Forest. In many visual and written illustrations, human beings and deer appear as close companions and in some cases, humans adopt the face or antlers of a deer, in images more common in stories of human strife. Deer also have a supernatural significance and appear as apparitions of divinity and in legends of spiritual awakening.

Hargrove- meadow filled with rabbits (like the rabbit lonnie made jonathan k*ll.) Hopper sounds like thumper the rabbit- which jonathan mentions in relation to bunnies . And ... idk... Hopper did make that pun in s3 about bunnies to Larry (lawerence) ? We also have rabbit refs elsewhere like with- el in Benny's. They play the song 'white rabbit' a song referencing Alice in wonderland and in el's room at Terry's house is the white rabbit from that story. Also paralleling to jonathan- el was almost made to k*ll a cat by her father (Cheshire cat aka Alice in wonderland ref + cats are associated with magic powers/witch craft).In Celtic folklore, the rabbit is seen as a supernatural being from the Otherworld.The rabbit symbolism in Christianity has found its way through the Germanic deity Eostre from which the name Easter came to be (s4 will most likely have the Easter holliday).One tale describes the rabbit as the pet of Jesus Christ. And rabbits were often inserted into art of jesus' mother .

Creel- basket or container of fish.fish is taken as symbolizing Christ’s faith, charity, and abundance. A biblical story goes how Christ fed his disciples with 2 fishes and called them “fishers of men.” The Christians made an acrostic from the Greek word for fish, “ichthys” as early as the first century and it is, “Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter”, meaning Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.

Names hinting at character traits (which are very literal)

Mr clarke (science teacher)- clarke means 'scholar'

Dottie (in kali's gang)- she was in an insane asylum . And ‘Dotty’ is a very old British slang term for 'crazy'

War (usually relates to ‘villains’)

Troy- means ' foot soldier'. Martin brenner: Martin means 'war like'. Lonnie is diminutive of Alonzo or Lawrence. Alonzo means 'ready for battle'.

In contrast to Lonnie, Will can mean "desiring peace. " Axel who is part of Kali’s crew (who i think Will created along with others ) even means "father is peace."

Twin

Tom (Heather's dad) and Tommy mean ‘twin’. Robin's crush Tammy ('twin') Thompson ( 'son of tom’).

* Besides similar/identical name meanings.There’s also a lot of other repeated names that go into this whole twin/mirror imagery which i find strange... makes me wonder about @strangertheory ‘s version of the did theory. If not...maybe it’s just a allusion to the whole Will vs Will the wise arc (possibly) coming up?

Jennifer hayes (popular girl) & Jen (Mr clarke’s gf). Tina (highschool gal) & Tina- erica’s friend- Tina & christy are also nicknames of christina (s4 character). Susie (dustin’s gf) & susan (max’s mom). Sam (max’s dad) and Samantha (girl at party)/ samuel (possibly argyle). Billy Hargrove, Bill (dianne’s new huband), and Will-all being nicknames for William. Robin & Bob-nicknames for Robert. Lonnie & Larry-nicknames for Lawerence. Ted & Eddie being nicknames for Edward.James (Will’s bully), Jim Hopper (real name James), jacobi, and jason- all 4 are derived from jacob . Marsha Holland (barb’s mom) and marsha kelly (therapist s4)/martin relate to mars. Tom (reporter), tommy (highschooler), thompson (other highschooler).

it’s definitely peculiar to repeat names like this in a story. Unless it means ...something... I talked about how David was mentioning alot of doppelganger/twin imagery recently-here. So the name mirroring could just be an allusion to the Will/WW arc coming up ...possibly?

Wartober/Kisstober - Day 4

I’ve decided to combine @rubinecorvus Wartober 2021 and @raincoffeeandfandoms Kisstober 2021 prompt challenges for double the fun and double the headache. :3

Day 4 - Navigate + Slow Kisses

WARNING: POETIC AND OVERLY METAPHORED ALLUSIONS TO SEX AHEAD

Dick has always loved maps.

As a boy he’d been obsessed with charting the world, one latitude at a time. He could see the peaks of the Himalayas on every globe. The jungles of Madagascar in every atlas. The sea currents. The depths of the Pacific Ocean in every naval chart.

He’d trailed bony boy hands over the lines of longitude, zigzagging past the equator and up to each pole in turn, imagining the far off lands detailed in perfect topography beneath his fingertips and what adventures they may hold. Wild animals perhaps. Inland seas the color of blue only dreamt of, brimming over with dolphins bearing their backs of gold. Rubies deep in the planet’s crust the size of a fist, too glamorous even for the most queenly neck. Anything beyond the tidy suburban monotony of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

He’d joined the air force with a head full of boyish fantasies that never quite grew up. A misplaced Peter Pan training to plummet to the ground instead of fly, while fiery flak explodes in every direction. Dick falls from planes and navigation blows away, pulling it with him. A mere leaf in the wind. A tiny insignificant speck in a great big world.

He never lands in the lush tropical jungles of his childhood imagination. He never sets foot on the coastline with water so crystal clear you can see straight to the bottom. He lands in Hell. And there are no fantastic creatures here, no jewels or mountain-whisp clouds to chase. No sunsets over the curve of the horizon.

There’s only death. And fear. And the responsibility of leading men who look to him for guidance out of the smoke and into the daylight. He grips his compass like a lifeline and does his best. It’s almost good enough. They almost all make it to the next day.

Dick gets lost occasionally.

When he’s left to the watches of his chilly billet and the candles in the rest of the camp have long gone out. That’s when the isolation strikes hardest and the ghosts feel free to crowd in. They cast a shade so thick, he chokes, drowning on his own failures, his own insipidity. He wonders if he’ll ever make it out to see the sun again. If he’ll ever find the way back.

And then enters Nix.

With his sly, self assured grin and his dark, sardonic wit. He slips like a wish into Dick’s billet, or the potato cellar of a blown out building, or the back of the jeep when he purposely drives off the marked path. He takes Dick’s hand and cocks that brow that says “Trust me” and by God and all his angels, Dick does. He follows blindly and oh so willingly, grateful for the guide and indebted to Nix for knowing exactly when he’s in danger of venturing too far off course.

Nix strips him of the olive military wool that demands strict obedience. The color that barters not a hair of deviation from a pre-drawn map made by men who don’t know what it’s like to nose dive into the inferno of battle. Nix casts it away, tossing it to the floor and covers Dick’s skin with his own hands, paints him with his own array of colors. A black-brown fan of lashes skirting over his collarbone, the red of his mouth at Dick’s pulse point, coral pink tongue in the shell of his ear, the beach sand tan of his calloused fingers tightening around Dick’s naked bicep. Teeth with brightness to rival the Pacific white caps on his chest and abdomen. Eyes the color of expensive coffee from the tropics glancing up over his belt buckle, warm and rich.

Nix kisses him and he can feel the earth’s rotation slow beneath his feet.

Nix touches him and gravity is solid and real beneath his back once more.

Nix traces the constellation of Dick’s freckles with his lips and Dick can set time by the star’s orbit again.

He lets Nix take him apart and put him back together, piece by tattered piece. Until he’s whole and functional again, at least for a little while. Long enough to get his bearings and restart the cycle of playing tour guide through the landscape of dreary Europe, his band of Lost Boys in tow.

He comes to the siren song of Nix’s praises, his lover urging him on with clever fingers that play Dick's body like a well rehearsed instrument. When he’s caught his breath and regained his sense enough to flip their positions, Dick pins Nix down. Cages him against the cot and splays him wide, the scroll of his skin like fine golden parchment in the dim candlelight.

Nix squirms under the tenacious attention, craving speed and friction. But Dick is on a mission. He’ll recommit every part of him to memory, burying it deep in his psyche like treasure. Until the mental image of Nix bowing under his hand becomes as priceless and coveted as monstrous gemstones he can bask amongst at whim. Sorting them like a king sitting on his spoils. He’ll relearn the lines and transits of Nix’s form until he can recite in perfect detail the landmarks of his moles, the patterns of his body hair, the slope and angle of his wrists. He’ll stake his flag here, laying claim to Nix’s body and heart as conquistadors of old did to things and locations too precious to part with.

He can read his future in the curve of Nix’s hip bones. The universe in the earth tones of his eyes.

“Dick,” Nix whispers, something between a whine and a moan. He scraps desperate fingernails along Dick’s scalp, trying to steer his mouth where he needs it most. “Come on. Come on.”

Dick won’t be bullied off course. He runs the tip of his tongue along the shadow of the Adonis belt Nix used to have when he was in peak fighting shape at the start of the war, lingering at the scar just there above the pelvic crest. He lets his lips trek as fingertips do, memorizing the most scenic routes across and over and around this body he loves so dearly.

He steers southward down from the navel, following the trail of dark hair and Nix groans. He heads north to circumvent a nipple and Nix whimpers. He nibbles and sucks contrails on every inch he can find, until Nix bears the purple marks that label him as Dick’s territory and Dick’s alone.

He wrings curses and prayers and nonsense from Nix’s mouth. Until he arches beneath him and cries his release into the hush of Dick’s palm, breathy laughter squeezing through the spaces in Dick’s fingers.

“Jesus Christ,” Nix gasps, chest heaving with blasphemy and bliss. He tugs at Dick until he slides back up the length of his form, letting out the softest sigh for every slow kiss pressed to each body part on the journey up. “How do you do that? Remember exactly what gets me going? You always know.”

“I’m good at cartography,” Dick says.

“The hell does that mean?”

Dick just shrugs, cranes his neck down to pepper his shoulder with kisses.

Nix pulls a face that suggests Dick might be moderately insane, but then he laughs that ruby-ocean-wilderness-touchstone laugh of his and maneuvers Dick fully down on top of him for a long, lazy, silky sweet kiss. And though they’re both sated and satisfied for now, passing back and forth the same oxygen, filling each other's sails - it does not feel like journey’s end.

It feels like a beginning. Each and every time he’s with Nix and resets his course by the steady, unwavering foundation of his being. It’s always a new start. One he hopes against hope never stops resetting.

Because Nix has always been his True North.

Dick kisses his mouth and feels like he’s come home.

I do! Sometimes it takes me awhile to respond but I do, even if it is just to say "thank you". I know how hard leaving comments can be, even when all you can think of to say is "thank you for writing/I look forward to the next chapter/etc" and I guess I always want to acknowledge that. It also helps me to recognize the readers that continue to come back and comment, even when there's so much time in between my updates.

The times I don't reply is when I see the same reader having commented on multiple stories so I'll reply to their latest to thank them for all the other comments (unless there's something story-specific that needed replying).

Oh! Also when the comment is particularly frustrating, which is rare, but it happens.

6. A fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending.

Ummm, the fic where I wrote reactions to Kara's fall after fighting Reign was pretty angsty I feel (I still remember @youngbloodbuzz telling me to go to jail 😂)

Another one would have been the one where I wrote of Kara and Alex going back home to Midvale in the time that Alex had the mind-wipe. That was particularly sad, I feel.

This tumblr prompt I filled for @pippytmi awhile ago was also deliciously angsty

7. Do you write crossovers?

I do! I've written Glee/South of Nowhere, Supergirl/LoT, Supergirl/Wonder Woman. Does Agents of SHIELD/MCU count as a crossover even though it's technically just a tv/movie crossover?? I'm counting it anyway, haha

8. Ever received hate on a fic?

I've thankfully been lucky enough not to get direct hate on a fic. I have gotten unnecessary comments, if that counts, most of which are usually in some variation of "I headcanon this character to be a bottom and I don't like that you made them a top" which has happened across TWO different fandoms.

9. Do you write smut?

I write a lot of flut (fluffy smut) though I have to say that after fwb au, I'm taking a break from the smut 'cause I'm all smut out y'all 😂

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, not that I know of anyway.

I work a lot and very hard on getting into a character's head. Since I like writing within canon, it's something I do often. There's a restricti...veness (is that a word? It is right? 😂) in working only with what you're given which can be a fun writing exercise. I think you learn a lot about yourself when you can so completely access another person's psyche... which I feel sounds weird but it has always worked for me, haha.

16. Writing weaknesses?

I would love to work more on building stronger plots within a story, more of everything else that exists outside of romance stories. I love having lived in the world of writing romance fics but I want to dive into a different world.

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

Good??? I'm not too sure what this is trying to ask me, haha. If the scene calls for it, I'd happily write in a different language.

18. First fandom you wrote for?

I'm pretty sure it was Hannah Montana. Those were the days, haha.

No Time To Die

No Time To Die is an excellent send-off for Daniel Craig’s tenure as the world’s most famous superspy.

When Craig stepped into the tuxedo, it felt like a seismic shift. Previous iterations of Bond had touched on the existential dread and remorse that stem from a life lived dangerously, but never had the films seemed so intent on diving quite so deep into Bond’s psyche as he saved the world. Given that this version emerged in the shadow of the rise of Jason Bourne, it meant so too must Bond eschew the need for silly gadgets and villains with outlandish schemes. Bond was capital-s Serious now and by god, his movies needed to reflect that.

There’s a lot to be debated as to the merits of such an approach for a character who has, traditionally, been treated with a more playful spirit. I’ve enjoyed Craig’s run more than I haven’t. But by the end of Spectre, after we’d learned some absurdly unnecessary backstory about Bond’s childhood and how his older stepbrother was actually behind every bad thing that had ever happened to him, personally and professionally, I had grown weary of the approach. I longed for the days when Bond simply saved the world, no muss, no fuss.

Thankfully, No Time To Die lands the deft trick of not only paying off all the existential dread sown in Casino Royale by giving Craig’s Bond meaningful closure, but we get a “traditional” save-the-world-from-potential-doom mission that’s every bit as fun as I’d hoped while never betraying the “serious” tone of the previous four films.

This time out Bond faces off against Safin (Rami Malek), an assassin whose nanobot super virus can wreak unimaginable havoc on the world. Normally this would be just another day at the office for an international superspy, but there are numerous wrinkles that make this anything but a typical work week for Bond. For starters, he’s been replaced. Nomi (Lashawna Lynch) is MI-6’s 007 now and she’s all too happy to remind Bond that he’s past his prime. Then there’s Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux), with whom he ran off in the last film, but then abandons early on here before going off the grid for five years. She’s then unexpectedly thrust back into his life, bearing more than a few secrets of her own.

All of this creates a web of emotional complexity for Bond to navigate in a way that none of his previous films achieved, but that also wouldn’t have been possible without the groundwork that those films put in place. It all comes to a head with a finale that was both surprising and yet perfectly fitting given the trajectory set in motion with Casino Royale. The entire throughline of these films has been that of a man questioning his place as an agent, as a man, as someone who does or does not add anything of value to an already violent and uncaring world. No Time To Die brings all of that to a full and satisfying resolution. It’s a definitive bit of punctuation, but I can honestly think of no better way to send Craig off than how it’s achieved here.

But make no mistake, this isn’t simply a grim rumination on mortality or Bond simply pondering his own existential dread for nearly three hours. It’s a cracking good time at the movies. The runtime is longer than any previous movie in the series, but it moves like a rocket and never once did I feel like it dragged or should have spent less time in any one portion. If anything, there were times when I wished it would have lingered. More specifically, I’m sad we only got about 15 minutes (tops) with Paloma (Ana de Armas), a charmingly enthusiastic rookie agent with whom Bond all-too-briefly meets up with in Cuba. Their soiree is light on its feet, action-packed and made me wish more of its energy had been found in Craig’s films as a whole. If nothing else, I want a series of spinoff films starring Paloma and Nomi, as Lynch also delivers standout work as an agent coming into her own.

It’s a handsome film, to boot. I’m not sure any Bond film will ever match the sheer visual richness of Roger Deakins’ cinematography on Skyfall, but Linus Sandgren’s work here is no slouch. His eye for naturalistic settings is superb. It also sounds great thanks to a wonderful score by Hans Zimmer, whose compositions may be familiar but that’s a somewhat welcome feeling after previous, recent films which could often feel a bit too contemporary.

At its core this was everything I was hoping for from a finale for this iteration of the character. Craig’s comedic abilities were rarely put to use in the role, but his Bond finally gets to fire off several perfect one-liners. The aversion to gadgets and tricked-out cars is gone, granting us a delightful return to form for Bond’s iconic Aston Martin. And he gets to save the world while still experiencing what is perhaps the most definitive arc of growth the character has seen on film.

I have no idea what the future of Bond looks like. My hope is that the character can go back to a more devil-may-care tone with less of a focus on “serious” storylines and a grander sense of adventure and just outright fun. Until then, I’m just glad Daniel Craig was able to go out with a proper bang.

"You ain't fooling anyone pops! This little 'runt' wormed himself into your heart and you let me stay there nice n' cozy. Might act grumpy all the time but you're a big softy... that goes apeshit half of the time." Sonic 'Mihou' the Hedgehog, Son and Apprentice of the Warrior.

This was something that came to me out of the blue after hearing the update on Sonic Prime and diving further into LMK sinkhole. What if instead of ending up in Green Hills, a young 2020 movie Sonic ended up in Megapolis specifically Macaque's theatre?

The black furred monkey was super hesitant to bring the little hedgehog into his home but gave in considering he was once in a similar position. Learning about Sonic's incredible power was a doozy to say the least. Unlike with what he did to MK in canon, Macaque thought about taking the hedgehog's power but that idea was tossed aside instantly for the student approach.

Sonic was taught both martial arts and how to use a staff, the cudgel being his main weapon in battle than just his classic Homing Attack or Spin Dash. It didn't take long for the two to form a father and son bond as time went by with Sonic taking Macaque's last name as his own.

It's heavily advised to not mess with either student or master. To harm the student is to be torn apart by his master's shadow and to harm the master is to be shredded by the student's quills. All enemies have to be wary of the dark storm that these two can conjure together in battle. The moon and the star, Six Eared Macaque and Sonic the Hedgehog.

It's been sometime since I actually drew a normal Sonic than the Werehog. If you don't know, Sonic the Hedgehog 2020 is my favorite videogame movie of all time and I am super psyched for the sequel coming next year. This particular crossover is called Fast Shadows.

For this particular Sonic, I wanted to change the design a bit other than just the new threads. This hedgehog is rougher considering whose his caretaker is, something that led to wilder quills and sharper teeth. The chip on his ear does have a story to it and the only thing I will say is Magic Lantern.

If I ever do anything with Sonic Prime or an alternate Sonic, this particular Sonic will go by the name Mihou. His mannerisms are a mix between the cinnamon roll of the 2020 film and a sarcastic smartass.

As for his powers, it won't be just his standard abilities he'll have. Macaque is going to have a wild ride raising this little hedgehog. Here's a fun insight. Our Six Eared Monkey made both Sonic's weapon and uniform so it can coordinate properly with his fighting style.

Mercury’s Retrograde in Scorpio

Yup it’s finally time, the third and final Mercury retrograde of 2020 kicking off at 11 degrees in Scorpio! While we’re familiar with Mercury’s themes of communication, study, thought, and travel/transportation, Scorpio gives an emphasis on dissection, secrecy, you know digging deep into the heart and soul of things. Scorpio’s traditional ruler, Mars, is retrograde in Aries and facing a nasty T-square with the sun and half the outer planets, adding a bit of sinister energy to this retrograde as the sign’s ruler is battling it out with half the planets in the sky.

Right now Mercury is opposing retrograde Uranus in Taurus and will be for much of the retrograde period, “what lives in the dark must come to the light” comes to mind when interpreting this. Mercury’s trine with retrograde Neptune in Pisces will make it easier to expose the grand illusion and clear up some of the fog we’ve been left in, an excellent aspect for journalists and writers to find truth and depth in the stories they want to tell. Mercury’s sextile with the Capricorn conjunct (Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto) and Venus in Virgo will be telling as we re-evaluate our relationship with the world around us, there will be a lot to take in related to these things but the information will help you make the changes you need.

Expect to see secrets exposed and to learn more about what goes on beneath the surface of where it is that Mercury is traveling in your chart. Now more than ever it’s important to look beyond the surface, if you’ve been meaning to do a deep dive into the underbelly of how something works now is your chance, if not then expect a ton of over-the-top news and scandals to pop up.

Transits

Mercury in the 1st house: This retrograde will help you deep dive and re-evaluate yourself. This is a great time to get to the root of your self image and how it affects your relationships with others. While it’s opposing Uranus in the 7th house it will be easier to form new partnerships around a part of your identity you’ve been wanting to express for some time now, but there is a risk of suddenly getting the attention of some haters. My advice; avoid gossipy crowds and be mindful of what you say or share. With Mars (Scorpio’s ruler) in Aries facing an aggressive T-square with the Sun and the Capricorn conjunct, they out for blood.

Mercury in the 2nd house: There may come a time during this retrograde where you need to re-evaluate your investments and how you’ve been making income. Opposite Uranus in the 8th may be making or breaking your bank account right now, so use this retrograde to adjust your materials and your coin spending accordingly. Be extra careful of impulse buying right now, and if you find yourself running out of space to put your things maybe donate what you don't need. It’s not a good idea to make any big long-term investments right now but it is a good time to perfect your hustle.

Mercury in the 3rd house: This is my transit and I just had to drop a bunch of money to get my car fixed >.< That being said, this is the transit of broken phone screens, delayed messages, and complications with travel and your vehicle (DO NOT ignore that check engine light). With opposite Uranus in the 9th you may get overwhelmed with education and new information during this transit, and by the end you may start feeling like Eviline, cuz you won’t want nobody to bring you no bad news. Be careful of those nosey neighbors and try not to get into spats with your siblings or cousins if you can afford it. Online arguments will be especially frustrating now.

Mercury in the 4th house: Familial secrets may start coming to the surface, exposing some skeletons behind your public image. Shadow work will be really important during this transit because you’ll likely be forced to confront and break some family curses. For those who worship the ancestors this is the perfect time to divine with them and ask them for guidance. With opposite Uranus in the 10th house, you’re also likely to run into sudden changes in your work life or may have to make a change in how you work to accommodate for the needs of home.

Mercury in the 5th house: If you still find joy in your hobbies and forms of entertainment then this’ll be a fun transit that’ll allow you to sharpen your skills and nerd out with others. However some of you going through this transit are starting to realize that what once bought you joy is starting to become a burdensome. During this time you may be more open to trying new things, perhaps even tapping into spirituality or engaging in dark mysteries and conspiracies. Opposite Uranus in the 11th suggests there being a chance of finding new networks to enjoy your interests with. Be careful with misinformation though, not every rabbit hole leads to a good place.

Mercury in the 6th house: Pay close attention to your mind and body this retrograde. There’s an emphasis on soothing a pain this time around, especially paired with Uranus in the 12th house of isolation and psyche. Flair ups and random aches may manifest now, but because Mercury is fast moving and quick to change this too shall pass. Self care and adjusting routines is what's important right now.

Mercury in the 7th house: This retrograde is going to force you to re-evaluate your close relationships and commitments. If there’s something that you and another person have been sweeping under the rug then Mercury is going to force you to finally acknowledge the elephant in the room. With opposite Uranus in the 1st house you’re probably going through an intense personal change right now, so Mercury is here to help you adjust to how you now relate to others and purge old commitments that no longer align with who you are.

Mercury in the 8th house: Scorpio’s Mercury retrograde can actually do a lot of good here since this energy can help you dig deep and tap into resources from others and help you connect with your shadow. Though there is a catch, you may be extra clumsy handling other people’s posessions so it’s important don’t take on more than you know you can handle. With opposite Uranus in the 2nd tighten up your security because this transit can cause a sudden loss of stuff and Mercury in mythology is also lord of thieves.

Mercury in the 9th house: A particularly challenging transit for students, teachers, and clergy folk. This transit may cause you to re-evaluate your method of teaching and/or your academic/philosophical pursuits. For everyone else this transit may push you to change your mind and adjust your values based on new information found from opposing Uranus in the 3rd. The result of this transit can go one or two ways, either you’ll find it easier to enlighten yourself and then pass it on to others or you’ll find yourself fighting about an unpopular stance.

Mercury in the 10th house: If you’ve been feeling miserable in your workplace or feel like you’re exhausted being seen as person most people think you are, this transit is going to help you confront the issue and make a change. Opposite Uranus in the 4th’s influence is making you realize you can’t hide from your past and how much your home and familial ties affects how you interact with the world. A sudden change in family/home dynamics is probably making you to re-evaluate the roles you play and what adjustments are needed to better fulfill them.

Mercury in the 11th house: I’m not gonna lie this one looks rough af, but it won’t be all bad! For some, this transit is going to reveal who the snakes around you are and what systems have been holding you back this whole time. For others, you’re about to get a rude awakening about what it is that's hurting your connections with others and what you need to do to make a change and heal them (or cut ties all together. Idk, it’s your transit). In both scenarios, opposite Uranus in the 5th is likely in the process of helping you find new hobbies and experiences that could help bring joy. As you find new ways of channeling your will and vision this allows Mercury to help you discover new friends and communities

Mercury in the 12th house: This retrograde may be a very isolating one for most of you. There’s something deep in your psyche that needs to be acknowledged or a deep psychological change that you’ve gone through recently, but the 12th house is the spot in our charts that’s most difficult to reach since it’s the non-tangible space just below the horizon. Uranus sitting in your 6th house gives me online meet-ups, check-ins, therapists, and doctor visit vibes, but it can also manifest a friend or partner coming into your life to break you out of your rut and help you tap into the repressed part of you that’s hard for you to reach on your own. Utilize them during this time, but be aware that not everyone whose nice to you has your best interest at heart and just because you’re feeling isolated doesn’t mean you should welcome just anyone in. Keep in mind that the 12th house also rules hidden enemies and agendas and sure enough they too will be exposed in due time.

Characters: Sokka, Yue

Sokka wiggled his eyebrows as he peered over the windowsill of the ice-crafted guest suite that he, Aang, and Katara had been provided for their stay in the Northern Water Tribe. The Arctic wind swirled beyond the paneless window, pushing little snowflakes into Sokka’s brown hair and flushed face. He sneezed as a few of the tiny puff particles tickled his nose. While rubbing his nares with the side of his index finger, his periwinkle-blue eyes searched the snowy streets carving through the harsh lines of the residential buildings.

The hour was late, the moon nearly at its peak in the starry night sky, so only the tribal guard wandered the city streets at this time. Sokka watched carefully as a man holding a lit torch patrolled the immediate area. As the soldier turned the corner, the torchlight slowly faded from bright yellow to dull orange before melting into the inky blackness of the shadows. Sokka waited a few moments just in case the man decided to return before boosting himself into the sill. He was grateful for his mittens because even with the soft cloth, the cold of the crafted ice building still bit eagerly into the skin of his palms and fingers.

The snow crunched under the soles of Sokka’s boots as he landed in the drift piled against the building’s wall. He only barely surprised a high-pitched whine as his legs sunk to the calves in the bank, the wet cold diving into his clothes to claw at his skin and tear down to the bone with relish. Hurriedly, he clambered out into the street proper, shaking out his legs to dislodge as much of the clumpy white fluff as he could as he ambled along his way. The moonlight shone down to guide his path.

Sokka hummed pleasantly as he confidently navigated the narrow streets of the Northern Water Tribe. After several days of staying there, he’d more or less memorized the area immediate to the lofty palace where the chief and his beautiful daughter resided. As the image of the graceful, sweet white-haired young woman blossomed in his mind, Sokka sighed dreamily. Yue… There was no denying it; Sokka was smitten. Hence why he sacrificed his precious sleep to sneak out to see the girl.

If only… A sour taste bloomed on his tongue as the image of her betrothed invaded his psyche. His fists involuntarily curled in his mittens, making the cloth squeak with how tight he tensed the threads. Sokka could understand, superficially, why Yue felt so compelled to agree to the political marriage. That didn’t make him any less jealous of the totally undeserving snotrag she would marry. He allowed himself to seethe for a moment before exhaling, releasing his anger in a cloudy misty breath. I’ll take my victories where I can…

The buildings began to thin out, hugging the streets less and growing squatter and simpler. As he approached the fridge of the capital city, hugging the great ice wall that surrounded its sprawl, the snow drifts began to rise in great mounds in comparison to the short buildings. In a majority of the city, not an inch of space was wasted; with its great population, the Northern Water Tribe can crammed structures into every inch of space it could on the massive glacier facing the ice-cold ocean. However, on one of his daily meanderings, Sokka had discovered a clear square patch, no more than a hundred by a hundred feet maybe, crammed between some residential buildings.

Naturally, Sokka had invited Yue to partake in some good old-fashioned snowball fighting and snowman making.

Sokka, hands shoved under his armpits as the cold continued to creep through the fabric of the wool, lumbered onto the empty swathe of snow. In the buildings marking the perimeter, all the windows were dark, reassuring him that no one would be privy to their midnight rendezvous. Still, they had to be quiet; the tribe’s leader wasn’t exactly keen on Sokka courting his daughter. Not that Sokka righteously cared; he liked Yue, but more than that, he felt sorry for her, as she was no more than a trophy to her ungrateful fiancé. A smart, pretty girl like that just pawned off to some jerk… he thought with a disdainful snort. I just want her to be treated like she deserves...

“Sokka!” A goofy grin split the boy’s face as he caught Yue’s whisper prancing on the wind. Snow flew up in flurries as he whirled on his heels; he then cried out in alarm as he slipped on its slick surface, pinwheeling his arms and snow crunching loudly under his boots as he struggled to stabilize his body. Yue giggled girlishly as she watched him fumble with himself before scurrying over to grab his arm and steady him. “Careful. We don’t want to get caught.” Sokka could see the enlivened glint in her clear ice-blue eyes; the fact they were rebelling riveted her.

“Yeah,” he laughed sheepishly. He smiled shyly at her as he rubbed at the back of his neck. His expression melted like snow on the oncoming of spring; she was just so beautiful, so kind, so perfect. Yue’s cheeks rosied under his adoring gaze, and she bashfully clasped her mittened hands together and swayed from side to side. Sokka’s eyes tracked a course down her face to fall to her neck; as soon as they hit the bridal necklace clasped around her throat, a sourness spread across his tongue. He cleared his throat and ripped his gaze away. He was determined not to ruin the evening contemplating the inevitability of their heartbreak; he would live in the moment, for as many moments as he could.

He clapped his hands over his mouth to swallow an ear-splitting shriek as Yue suddenly yanked his overcoat and shirt back to dump a handful of snow down them. He hissed and writhed and wriggled as Yue laughed mirthfully. Clumps of snow slid down his spine to fall in half-melted clumps from the hem of his coat. Back stinging with the cold, he whirled on her with a grin he most desperately was trying to morph into a scowl.

“Yue!”

“What?” she asked with an innocent flutter of her white lashes. “You said we were playing in the snow…” Sokka’s lips curled in on themselves as he struggled to maintain a scolding demeanor, but he just couldn’t with Yue looking so amused and proud of herself. That’s it; that’s the look he wanted to see on her face. Joy, fun, freedom- Yue deserved all those and so much more.

“Fine. You wanna play in the snow? Let’s play in the snow.” As Sokka dove down to fling a pile of the white powder up into her face, Yue gasped. The snow exploded against her face to instantly chill her cheeks and clump to her lashes. The Water Tribe princess hissed in displeasure. However, in the next second, she chuckled elatedly and fumbling down to try and return the favor. “Nope! Gotta catch me!” he called, quietly so as not to awaken the slumbering denizens around them, before darting off.

The night became a symphony of crunching snow, uncontrollable giggles, and barely-suppressed shrieks of delight. Eventually, the fine powder dusted them from head to toe like powdered sugar pastries, and their hot breath steamed in the chill of the cold morning. Sokka collapsed on his back in the snow to lazily carve a snow angel into the drift; his blood pumped to hotly in his veins for the cold to breach the barrier of his skin. Yue kneeled beside him. Both of them gazed up at the bright full moon with smiles on their faces.

“Yue,” Sokka said suddenly, looking at her. She hummed inquisitively, turning those eyes like clear ice on his own like the deep waters of a glacial river. “Did you have fun?”

“I did,” she replied earnestly. Her smile illuminated the deep dark of the night, pristine white teeth catching the moonbeams to reflect them tenfold. “Sometimes I get so caught up in my duties as a princess I forget to enjoy myself every once in a while.”

“Yeah, you should.” He rolled onto his side with a haughty pout. His curled fist pressed into his waist as he regarded her adamantly. “You deserve to have freedom just like everyone else.” Yue’s eyes dropped down to her lap, the edges of her smile drooping as sadness encroached upon the momentary bliss. Whether Sokka brought up her dismal situation or not, Yue’s smile always ended up like that- hollow, longing, resignated.

“No matter how much I wish to be a normal girl, I have a duty to the tribe. If I can fulfill that duty to the best of my ability, I will be happy.” A flicker in her eyes revealed the doubt swimming deep within her being. The snow squeaked when Sokka pushed his body up; white powder rained from his form as he scooched close to her, the side of his body molding with the fluffy layers of her overcoat to press against the skin beneath. Her eyes drifted to his, finding them both warm and regretful.

“You will be.” Yue’s ivory eyebrows inched up her forehead as hope seeped back into her features. “I know you will. You’re already a fantastic princess who cares so much about her people.” His mittened hands took hers, folding them over to hold them tenderly. “You’re gonna be the happiest girl in the whole Northern Water Tribe.”

“Sokka…” Her breath misted before his face, materializing the ghost of his whisper. She then snickered, dropping her head down as she squeezed her eyes shut from the sheer elation and slight embarrassment. “You give really good pep talks.”

“Why, thank you! Just another one of my many talents,” he boasted. She smiled gratefully at him, peering up at him through her lashes. Sokka gazed deeply into her eyes, marveling the way happiness made them gleam all the brighter, until his eyes slowly drifted down to her pretty pink lips. He debated kissing her, for a second. Perhaps Yue sensed it, because she took that moment to retract her hands from between his. The warmth left his palms and cold invaded, gnawing into the flesh with a vengeance. He looked at her with knitted eyebrows when she rose and brushed as much of the snow from her blue fur-lined dress as she could.

“I should get back to the palace.” A numbness crept into Sokka’s body, but he didn’t know if it was the chill of the snow and wind or her hollow statement. He said nothing as she stoically left the clearing, only watched until she melted into the shadows of the streets and buildings, like a phantom fleeing the inevitable oncoming of the sun.

Sokka released the groan he had been holding, craning his neck back to stare mournfully at the Milky Way glimmering in the inky night sky above. Guilt gnawed at his belly; how could he have given her false hope like that? What happiness could a marriage built from politics, not love, bring Yue? None, that’s what. It was a pipe dream, a crumbling foothold for a girl dangling over the precipice of despair- a momentary respite only doomed to fail.

Still, if a little white lie brought Yue’s smile back… Sokka would tell as many as necessary. He watched the snow flurries dance over his head through lidded eyes. He’d return to their lodgings when the cold finally forced him to seek shelter- but for a while, he would watch those white snowflakes, white ghosts, white lies, spiral up into the abyss of futile fantasies.
