moondaddy Transcends with Analog Dreamscapes on New EP ‘Lightwave Lightwave’
Tumblr media
What began as a form of escapism from existential angst has blossomed into a fully realized artistic vision for San Diego’s dream pop quintet, moondaddy. In just a few short years, lead singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Cara Potiker has transformed from crafting hazy bedroom demos to captivating audiences with the band’s hypnotic live performances. With their latest EP, Lightwave Lightwave, moondaddy has channeled the raw energy of those performances into the studio, delivering a bold, all-analog recording that feels both fearless and deeply immersive. “This is the first project that sounds exactly the way I want my music to sound,” Cara reflects. “I used to let others steer my vision, but this time I took full control. The manic spontaneity of recording to tape really allowed the music to come alive.” Lightwave Lightwave captures an impressive balance of the ethereal and the tangible, blending vintage warmth with contemporary dream pop atmospheres. Recorded at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, and co-produced by Manuel Calderon (known for his work with Animal Collective, Portugal. The Man, and Beach House), the EP was mastered straight from the tapes to lacquer by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering, ensuring every sonic detail is preserved. moondaddy’s sound is emotionally charged yet lyrically abstract, crafting evocative landscapes that shimmer with both light and shadow. Cara’s vocals glide through these tracks with an unpredictable grace—sometimes hauntingly low and brooding, other times soaring with a phoenix-like intensity. The four-track collection doesn’t dwell on linear storytelling, but rather captures poetic fragments of feeling, leaving space for listeners to interpret and connect on their own terms. The band’s meticulous arrangements unfold patiently, building immersive soundscapes filled with lush synths, dreamy guitar lines, and intricate rhythms. In the studio, the band—featuring Julia Rahm on synths and harmony vocals, Patrick Heaney on drums, Rob Wren on bass, and Gabe Poissant on guitar—recorded directly to tape, embracing the creative constraints of analog. “Recording to tape brings an immediate sense of finality,” Cara explains. “There’s no room to endlessly tweak. You have to commit.” The EP’s spirit of spontaneity carries over from their live show, which has earned the band a reputation for its transcendent energy. On stage, moondaddy’s performances are elevated by visually stunning projections created by NYC-based artist Blair Neal, adding another dimension to their dreamy aesthetic. With Lightwave Lightwave, moondaddy has captured the essence of their live presence within the studio walls, delivering a sonic experience that is atmospheric, enigmatic, and timeless. As the EP drops on vinyl and streaming platforms, moondaddy invites listeners to drift away into their analog dreamworld, where the lines between the past, present, and future blur in shimmering waves of sound. Panda Bear Unveils “Sinister Grift” with the Warm, Experimental Glow We Didn’t Know We Needed
Tumblr media
Panda Bear, the solo moniker of Animal Collective’s Noah Lennox, is set to release his latest full-length album, Sinister Grift, on February 28, 2025, via Domino. Recorded at Lennox’s Estudio Campo in Lisbon, the album marks a reunion with longtime collaborator and Animal Collective bandmate Josh Dibb (a.k.a. Deakin), who co-produces the project. Today, Panda Bear offers a first taste with the single “Defense,” featuring Cindy Lee—an alter ego of Canadian musician Patrick Flegel—on guitar. “Defense” is an immediate standout, a swirling blend of warm guitar riffs and Lennox’s unmistakable vocal delivery, transporting listeners into a dreamscape that’s both immersive and disarmingly tender. The accompanying video enhances the track’s introspective charm, drawing viewers deeper into the song’s hypnotic pull. A 7” single of “Defense,” featuring the exclusive B-side “Virginia Tech,” will be available on October 18 at select indie stores, giving fans a bonus glimpse into Lennox’s evolving sound. Pre-orders for Sinister Grift include limited-edition vinyl options—Clear (Domino Mart exclusive) and Curacao Blue (indie exclusive)—as well as a standard LP, CD, and digital release. Fans will also receive a double-sided 12”x36” poster with every vinyl copy, and a limited-edition album shirt is up for grabs via Domino’s store. While Sinister Grift is the first Panda Bear solo album in five years, it feels more like a culmination of Lennox’s entire career. From the genre-bending triumph of Person Pitch (2007) to the kaleidoscopic electronics of Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper (2015), Lennox has maintained a rare consistency across wildly diverse projects. His work with Animal Collective—think Sung Tongs (2004) and Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009)—and collaborations with artists like Daft Punk, Solange, and Jamie xx have only cemented his legacy as a sonic visionary. Sinister Grift signals a new creative chapter, with Lennox leaning into an organic, ensemble-like feel. This time, Panda Bear’s experimental edge is infused with a warmth and immediacy that feels fresh, almost familial. Playing most instruments himself, Lennox enlists collaborators like Cindy Lee, Spirit of the Beehive’s Rivka Ravede, and—perhaps most notably—all of his Animal Collective bandmates, making their first collective appearance on one of his solo records. With Sinister Grift, Lennox once again demonstrates his uncanny ability to weave the familiar with the unexpected, crafting a sound that’s simultaneously intimate and expansive. It’s a reminder that even after two decades, Panda Bear’s creative flame burns as brightly—and unpredictably—as ever. Read the full article

YOUNG POSSE Set to Shake New York City with Their First American Tour Stop at Queens Theatre
Tumblr media
K-pop’s rising stars, YOUNG POSSE, are bringing their fierce hip-hop energy to New York City on Monday, October 21, as part of their inaugural U.S. tour. The five-member crew—SUNHYE, YEONJUNG, JIANA, DOEUN, and JIEUN—will light up Queens Theatre, showcasing their unique spin on Korean hip-hop and the raw talent that’s making waves across the globe. As the youngest girl group in the K-pop industry, with an average age of just 16, YOUNG POSSE embodies ambition. Their name carries a dual meaning—“YOUNG” marking their youth and “POSSE,” rooted in the Latin term for “possible,” reflecting their mission to break boundaries and redefine what a K-pop girl group can achieve. And their next goal? Taking America by storm. Since their debut in October 2023, YOUNG POSSE has been making noise as the only girl group in K-pop performing pure hip-hop—and the twist? They write all their own lyrics. Now, they’re bringing that lyrical prowess and electrifying energy to the U.S. on The Hungry Tour, which kicked off in Miami and winds through cities like Orlando, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Seattle before closing out in the Pacific Northwest. Fans attending the New York stop can expect a full-throttle performance featuring tracks from their latest EP ATE THAT, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes K-pop chart and landed at #32 on the Melon Hot 100. With hits like “Ate That” earning them the Best Music Video award at the K-World Dream Awards, the group has mastered the art of blending hard-hitting hip-hop beats with visual storytelling. The video, inspired by Grand Theft Auto, racked up over 30 million views within just nine days—another testament to their star power. Audiences will also get a taste of YOUNG POSSE’s earlier work, including tracks from their previous EPs, XXL and Macaroni Cheese. Channeling the rebellious spirit of ’90s American hip-hop, their performances reimagine classic sounds with fresh choreography, setting them apart from the typical K-pop fare. Already crowned as “Hot Potential” winners at The Fact Music Awards and recently becoming the youngest models for MURASAKI SPORTS in Japan, YOUNG POSSE are proving their versatility extends beyond the stage. But it’s the raw, unfiltered energy of their live shows that’s truly cementing their reputation as trailblazers. Brace yourself, New York—YOUNG POSSE’s arrival promises a night of unstoppable energy, undeniable talent, and a glimpse of the future of K-pop. The countdown to October 21 is on, and this is a show you won’t want to miss. Check out “Ate That” below: Read the full article

Sun-Kissed Sounds and Dreamy Escapes: Saccades’ ‘Land of the Hearth’ Album Review
Tumblr media
Saccades’ Land of the Hearth is a captivating exploration of dreamy psychedelia, melding elements of shoegaze, synth-pop, and folk. From the very first track, the album invites listeners on a reflective journey, with lush soundscapes that feel both expansive and intimate, offering a sense of nostalgia grounded in the warmth of personal memories. We missed this one in 2023!kv The album is marked by its airy, reverb-drenched guitars and shimmering synth textures that create a dreamlike atmosphere. There’s a subtle interplay between light and dark moods, as the lyrical themes touch on home, belonging, and the search for personal meaning. Tracks such as “Open Up the Way” evoke a meditative calm, while others, like “Out of Sight,” introduce more energetic rhythms without breaking the album’s soothing continuity. Saccades strikes a delicate balance—gentle, understated delivery that complements the instrumentation without overshadowing it. This soft-spoken approach enhances the album’s introspective feel, allowing the listener to immerse themselves fully in the experience. Land of the Hearth flows seamlessly, with each track building on the previous, creating an album that feels cohesive yet exploratory. There’s also a cinematic quality to the production, making it easy to imagine these songs as the backdrop to quiet road trips or hazy afternoon reflections. The sonic palette—rich in synth swells, hypnotic rhythms, and guitar arpeggios—invites comparisons to artists like Tame Impala and Real Estate, but Saccades maintains a distinctive voice throughout, grounded in authenticity. Land of the Hearth is a rewarding listen for those seeking immersive, tranquil soundscapes with subtle emotional depth. It offers an invitation to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with the personal notion of home—a meditative experience that lingers well beyond the final notes. Check it out below and let us know your thoughts. Read the full article

Charli XCX Unleashes Brat Remix Album Featuring Bon Iver, Julian Casablancas, and More
Charli XCX's Brat is entering a thrilling new phase with the release of Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat, a remix album that breathes fresh life into the original. The 16-track collection features an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Bon Iver, Ariana Grande, Caroline Polachek, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Tinashe, and The 1975, each adding their own unique spin. Just when the night seemed to be winding down, this album arrives like a fresh burst of energy, revamping the vibe and keeping the party alive—fittingly “bratty” in nature. The remixes range from genre-bending transformations to dance-floor-ready bangers, creating a dynamic listening experience that feels both eclectic and cohesive. It’s a testament to Charli's knack for keeping things unpredictable, with each guest artist amplifying the album's rebellious spirit while preserving the essence of Brat. Whether it’s Caroline Polachek’s ethereal touch or Julian Casablancas’ gritty vibe, the tracks continually shift gears, offering surprises at every turn. With Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat, Charli XCX proves once again that she thrives on reinvention, delivering an audacious blend of styles that invites listeners to embrace the chaos and dive deeper into her world. This album isn't just a collection of remixes—it’s an evolution, a bold declaration that even as things change, the heart of Bratremains unmistakably intact. Read the full article

Phoneboy Returns with New Single "I Look Alive" and Halloween Show Announcement
Tumblr media
Indie rock band Phoneboy is back with a fresh release, dropping their new single, "I Look Alive," accompanied by a striking music video. This is the band's first new music of the year, following their 2023 sophomore album Moving Out. You can watch the video for "I Look Alive" here. The band describes "I Look Alive" as a candid take on grappling with insecurities and the small lies used to mask inner turmoil. “The song is about getting smacked in the face by your insecurities," they explain. "You might feel like everyone is scrutinizing your every move, and you hide behind a cigarette, a drink, or a joke to get by. It works for a while, but eventually, the pressure becomes overwhelming." It's a track for anyone who has ever seemed fine on the outside while struggling on the inside. "I Look Alive" also marks the first song to feature Jordan Torres on lead vocals. The band embraced this transition in the music video, aiming to spotlight Torres with an ambitious concept. “Since it’s her first time leading, we wanted to make it something special. The record’s 80s-inspired synths paired perfectly with a Halloween vibe, so an '80s zombie prom' theme was a natural fit,” they shared. To celebrate the release, Phoneboy is hosting a Halloween show at Brooklyn Made on October 31. Don't miss the chance to experience their latest single live—tickets are available here. HNAF: Caribou Bridges Dancefloor Rhythms and Emotional Soundscapes on ‘Honey‘
Caribou's latest album, Honey, marks a notable shift in Dan Snaith’s evolving sound, blending elements from his Caribou and Daphni projects. The album arrives after a four-year hiatus since Suddenly (2020), offering 12 tracks that incorporate influences from various electronic genres, including house, garage, and pop. This release leans more towards club-ready beats, diverging from the introspective tone of his previous work, while still maintaining a melodic core. The album opens with high-energy tracks like "Broke My Heart" and "Honey," setting a vibrant tone that continues through songs like "Do Without You." These tracks showcase Snaith's knack for merging pop accessibility with experimental dance music. There’s a playful use of AI to manipulate vocals, adding a layer of modernity to tracks such as "Campfire," which contrasts upbeat moments with introspective ballads. The album’s sonic diversity allows Snaith to explore both danceable grooves and emotive landscapes, with nods to the 2000s French electro scene and Daft Punk-style filters. Throughout Honey, Snaith retains his distinctive style, balancing catchy hooks with rich soundscapes. The second half of the album introduces a more experimental vibe, particularly from the short interlude "August 20/24" onwards, with songs like "Climbing" integrating disco influences. The result is a dynamic and eclectic collection that invites listeners to lose themselves in the beats while appreciating the underlying complexity. Overall, Honey captures Snaith’s dual artistry, bridging introspective pop with dancefloor rhythms, creating a project that is both familiar and refreshingly new. Checkout Read the full article

Shower Curtain Unveils New Single ”You're Like Me” Ahead of Debut Album Release
Tumblr media
New York City's Shower Curtain, fronted by Brazilian-American artist Victoria Winter, are making waves with their latest single, "you're like me." Layered with reverberating guitars and piercingly honest lyrics, the track showcases the band's knack for turning emotionally fraught experiences into sonic landscapes filled with melodic distortion. As the centerpiece of their upcoming debut album, words from a wishing well, set for release on October 18 via Angel Tapes/Fire Talk Records, "you're like me" arrives alongside an evocative music video directed by NYC duo Sex Week, depicting the complexities of a distant, strained relationship. Winter describes "you're like me" as a reflection on the painful realization that the people who hurt us most often share qualities we see in ourselves. The song explores the dynamic between two individuals who struggle to express their feelings, creating a cycle of subtle emotional harm. Musically, the track leans into a 90s-inspired guitar sound while experimenting with the resurgence of Y2K drum machine aesthetics in modern indie music. The accompanying video, shot over a weekend in New York City, captures the growing distance between two people who know exactly how to push each other's buttons. Following last month’s insomnia-fueled single "benadryl man" and this year's earlier release "wish u well," "you're like me" continues to illustrate Shower Curtain's evolution from Winter's solo bedroom pop beginnings to a fully-realized band diving into sludgy rock and shoegaze textures. With their forthcoming album, the band—rounded out by Cody Hudgins (Crate) on bass, Ethan Williams (Punchlove) on guitar, and Sean Terrell (Fasting) on drums—cements its place in Brooklyn’s slowcore scene, building anticipation for what promises to be a raw, reflective debut.
