QL Things That Made Me Happy in 2024
It's the end of the year, and people are doing a lot of cute things with superlatives and such, but with my limited bandwidth, I'm gonna keep it simple. Those who follow me know I am here to have a good time, and I like to focus on what brings me joy. 2025 is going to be a rough one, and I know I'm going to continue to need the QL space to help me emotionally cope, so if you'll indulge me, I want to just roll around in the good and the happy for a bit.
Tumblr media
(Note, there is also a ton of 2024 content I did not have time to watch, so this does not capture everything good that happened this year!)
Diversity of Genre
Every year we're breaking a little bit more new ground! I'm particularly excited to be seeing more mystery/thriller, for both our BLs & GLs. Robots, vampires, animals turned human, and hopefully soon, mermen. We're getting weirder and wilder, and I am here for it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Baby Steps in Representation
I know, I know, we all want it to get all better right now, but as someone in my fifth decade of life, I've also seen how small step after small step over the years can lead to huge changes. And in a world where a lot of people are trying to drag us backwards, it's important to keep pushing forward, and celebrate each successful step, even when it feels like it's not enough. (And keep advocating for more, of course!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Continuing to Give Friendship Its Due
Amazing friend groups are fortunately a QL staple, and this year was no different. We got so much good friend representation this year!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Japan Being Japan
The very top at efficient story-telling, whether it be hitting your heart or tearing it apart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taiwan Being Taiwan
Never change Taiwan. Just keep feeding me, pretty please.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Acting Highlights
Wow, did we get some incredible performances this year. Way more than I can list here, but here's a few that came immediately to mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Special Mentions
ie stuff that didn't fit under one of the above categories.
A year of TayNew
Step one, be the absolute most in the cutest shit ever. Step two, queer up a found family story. Step three, celebrate owning 2024. (And we get more of them in 2025!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Big getting his due
We've been chomping at the bit for a Big Thanakorn lead role for ages, and our man delivered! And we're gonna get more next year!
Tumblr media
A win for creative independence
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am so fucking proud of Yin and War. They did something incredibly difficult at great personal cost, and made something genuinely unique. Jack & Joker had a lot of layers, including a lot of cultural depth, along with social commentary. That kind of thing is always going to alienate some people, but that's part of what impressed me so much. If they wanted to make something to appeal to the most generic possible audience, they would have done it. They swung big, and made an impact, and I hope it opens up so much more opportunity for them.
Tumblr media
When talent grows exponentially
One of my favorite things about having been into QL for a while now is getting to see actors grow and develop past their initial roles. Often the raw talent is there from the beginning, but as in all careers there is a benefit from experience, the right kind of support, and the right opportunities.
2 Moons 2 was a largely forgettable series that managed to land some unforgettable talent, and both Joong and Pavel were highlights. They've both done so well, but in this particular case, I need to rave about Joong's growth in his performance as Fadel. The entire cast is rocking it in Heart Killers, Dunk is also doing incredible, but I have such a soft spot for the boy I immediately fell for way back in my first year of BL, and seeing him steal scenes from some of my all time favorite GMMTV actors. Well done, bebe, well done.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In summary
This doesn't remotely encompass everything (I didn't even get to all the delightful spice from this year!), I am limited by time and image restrictions per post, but as always, I am so grateful to have discovered this arena of media and this space in which to squee about it, and I am endlessly grateful for the people in this space who bring positivity, nuance, grace, compassion, caring, open-mindedness, humility, and curiosity to my dash.
Happy New Year, y'all.

Having trouble finding some films to watch, especially now that it's pride month?
Well have no fear, because I have some that is recommended, whether queer or queer-coded, these are movies you should watch.
Despite being forgotten or criticize being "woke", Strange World is a underrated gem that join the list of underrated and forgotten disney films such Lightyear, Treasure Planet and Atlantis.
It has an gay main character and a diverse cast including an 3-legged dog. Inspired by classic sci-fi adventure film in the 50's and 60's, Strange World is fun adventure film about an generation of a family dealing with their own faults, also opening a door of possibilities with it's lore.
Freaky is a fun twist on the classic "Freaky Friday" trope, telling the story of a teenager who swap bodies with a serial killer, thanks to a mystical artifact.
Co-written and directed by the guy who also made Happy Death Day, Freaky delivers some gore-filled kills and feel good laughs while offering some parts of queer identity along with a gay character who proud of who he is.
The Fear Street trilogy itself not only joined the list of amazing horror films in 2021 but also an spot of queer horror.
It follows an romance of two lesbian teens in the 90's not only dealing with homophobia but also a ancient connected curse of the town of Shadyside.
Chalked with nostalgia of classic horror films like Scream, Friday the 13th and The Crucible.
Fear Street wins fans over with it's violent kills, remarkable characters, talented performances, and great and relatable queer representation.
Jennifer's Body introduced an another horror icon and bisexuality.
Megan Fox plays Jennifer Check who was possessed by a demon and targets on guys after being sacrificed by an fame-hungry band.
Tho Jennifer is not a lesbian, but the films does show that she is interested in both boys and girls, claiming she goes both ways and has some interest in her friend Needy, even kissing her too.
The cult classic not only has an amazing bisexual icon but tackles heavy themes such as assault, exploitation and the female gaze.
Bottoms is a must watch masterpiece, chaotic, brutal and gut-bursting funny, the film follows two high school friends that made a fight club to just hook up with two popular cheerleaders.
With an ridiculously unhinged final act, meet cute romance, and jokes that have you laughing your butt off. This 2000's coded movie is a a treat to start off the month.
After rewatching it again, Arlo has queer heavy themes if you think about it. Looking back, one of the film's characters, has some queer-coded hints about him.
I'm not going to spoil on the titular character, I think you should watch the film in order to get what I'm saying.
Other than that the film has an amazing soundtrack and has colorful characters as well.
Luca definitely is a queer film without a doubt. Focusing on two young sea monsters, spending an unforgettable summer in the town of Portorosso on the Italian Riviera.
It's themes of self discovery, chosen families, homophobia and acceptance.
This emotionally sweet sea-filled tale is a instant classic with a pretty much Canon couple too.
Robot Dreams also has hints of queer companionship and also is a story of loneliness, the film's out now, you definitely think you should see it.
Based off the comic in 2007, Robot Dreams is set in the 80's of New York City.
A lonely dog assemble and befriends a robot in a dialogue-less journey of friendship, love and rusted parts.
There's no surprises are a lot of clear queer-tonic themes in the films, especially among the two main characters, Robot Dreams is a perfect way to spend your summer.
Last year, Nimona was not only one final goodbye from Blue sky studios but is a part of the best films of 2023.
No surprise that the creator of the graphic novel also did Netflix's She-ra, the film is heavy on not only disability but also gender identity and transphobia.
it's a film that everyone will enjoy, thanks to it's commentary and electrifying performances by the cast, combine with pretty metal animation, Nimona is the film you should definitely watch.
🏳️‍🌈Happy pride month, hope all of you have a great day, and let me know on what think of these films.🏳️‍🌈

Fandom Manifesto: Hello From The Hallowoods
(Originally written for the Fandomanifesto community on Pillowfort.)
Here's a (mostly spoiler-free) fandom manifesto for my favorite podcast, Hello From The Hallowoods. (Please try to keep the comments on this post spoiler-free as well.)
What is a fandom manifesto?
Inspired by ship manifestos, a fandom manifesto is an essay meant to introduce people to a fandom and promote it by explaining its appeal. It's a really fun tradition that I would love to keep going.
What is Hello From The Hallowoods?
Darker than your dreams, and farther North than you remember, there is a forest where life and death meet…
Hello From The Hallowoods is a queer horror podcast written and produced by William A. Wellman (they/them). This is the official description (taken from Spotify):
Come walk between the black pines! In this award-winning queer fiction podcast, a cosmic narrator follows the increasingly connected residents of the forest at the end of the world. It's a bittersweet story that explores queer identity, horror genre tropes, and finding hope in humanity's last moments.
It's set in a forest in northern Canada (the Hallowoods) in a post-apocalyptic world plagued by the black rains. The story follows the inhabitants of the Hallowoods—only some of whom are alive and human—as their lives become increasingly interconnected.
The podcast is narrated by Nikignik (he/they), also known as One Hundred Eyes in the Dark, an eldritch god who speaks directly to the listener via their nightmares. He begins to tell these stories because he's grieving his partner, another god called Marolmar (he/him), and humans were the last thing Marolmar created. Over time, Nikignik changes from a more passive narrator to an active character in the story.
There are a lot of characters, including but not limited to:
a nonbinary Frankenstein's creature piercing together their identity
a trans ghost dealing with his occultist father
an invisible man finding love at first sight
a genderfluid storm witch trying to prove themself
a retired rockstar and her punk butch lesbian daughter
a floral-suit-wearing demon on a celestial audit of earth
a starwolf on a mission to kill said demon
a killer robot skull and his pet dead seagull
an unkindness of ravens (yes, they are one character)
… and many, many more.
How scary is it?
It's a horror podcast, so there are some scary moments, but for me, the story feels very comforting and bittersweet as it explores horror tropes in a really unique way. According to the website:
It's been described as a show that helps you sleep easier, rather than one that keeps you up at night.
The story also explores themes like religious trauma, isolation, death, grief, and queerphobia, so please check the content warnings at the end of each episode description or at the start of each episode transcript. Transcripts are available on the website.
Why should I listen to it?
If the description above didn't convince you, here are some more reasons why you should listen to Hello From The Hallowoods.
There is so much content! I often complain about books being almost always standalones or duologies lately and TV seasons only being 8-10 episodes. If I really like something, I want to spend as much time with it as possible!
With HFTH, I don't have that problem because there is so much to listen to! There are currently (almost) 150 episodes available (plus a few live shows and bonus episodes), and new episodes come out every Wednesday. There are also weekly 100-word bonus stories on Patreon, and a tie-in novel called One Hundred Eyes In The Dark is currently in the works, so if you're looking for a story you can get really invested in (or if you're angry that all your favorite shows have been canceled), HFTH is perfect for you!
There are so many queer characters, disabled characters, and characters of color! If you're looking for a really diverse show, you will love HFTH. (I cried when I heard a character describe herself as aromantic.) But even aside from the diversity, the characters are just amazing. I mean, "What if Frankenstein's creature got love and support and was an absolute cinnamon roll?" is the perfect character concept. The villains are also really compelling and well-written.
It's a great introduction to podcasts, especially for book lovers, because it often feels like a very immersive audiobook! The voice acting and music are incredible, and even though there are a lot of characters, you can tell them apart very easily by their voices. If you like fantasy and horror books, this could be your introduction to the world of audio dramas.
That being said, if you have listened to other horror podcasts before, you will still love this one! It sometimes reminds me of Welcome To Night Vale, but the setting and characters are very unique, and the writing is so, so beautiful.
It's also a great introduction to horror! I used to avoid horror media because I get scared very easily, but horror podcasts (and especially Hello From The Hallowoods) made me discover how much I actually enjoy horror. HFTH explores horror tropes in such a kind, unique, and hopeful way, and as sappy as that sounds, listening to it makes the horrors of everyday life a little easier to deal with.
If you like Malevolent (another really great horror podcast), Harlan Guthrie has a guest role in HFTH! You might also recognize Mx. Wellman's voice from other podcasts like WOE.BEGONE, The Silt Verses or Old Gods of Appalachia.
The fandom is amazing! Everyone is so kind and talented, and we always have a lot of fun theorizing about what will happen next. There's even a fan-run Discord server!
We also have a fan wiki, and in addition to the official information, we also have a "fun gender" for each character. Here are some of my favorites:
Tumblr Sexyman (Official)
Eye-Affiliated Podcast Host
Deer that will fuck you up
Whatever the hell was going on with the guy from Shape Of Water
Nightmare Personality
Hot Topic Goth
Dilf Automobile
How do I listen to it?
You can listen to Hello From The Hallowoods on the podcatcher of your choice. Here are some suggestions from the Hallowoods website:
Spotify
Apple Podcasts
Podbean
YouTube
Google Podcasts
It's not an anthology, so please listen to it from the beginning to see how the different characters and plot threads come together.
The show is entirely ad-free and sponsor-free, so if you like it and want to financially support it, please consider joining the show’s Patreon.
And that's it! There are many things I didn't include for spoiler reasons, but this should give you a basic idea of what HFTH is about and why I love it so much.
I hope I convinced you to listen to Hello From The Hallowoods, and maybe you will love it as much as I do!

Quick Review: Pink Sugar [Season 1]
Tumblr media
Pink Sugar by @dulceskull is one of the most queer and exciting comics I've read, period, no qualifiers. Very few comics have made me as excited about comics as a medium despite my work on multiple award winning series as Pink Sugar has. The comic is still in it's very early days so where it goes and how it grows, who knows but as it stands it's the comic that I see there is an update for and dart onto my phone to read.
Pink Sugar follows Blake, Rocko, Artemis and near the end of this volume Satya. We see what leads up to these four lesbians going on a road trip across the different realms of the afterlife. Everyone is a hot demon in the after life because I mean, duh, obviously, why wouldn't we be? This first season is all about establishing characters, giving you a good idea of who they are, what they want, how they think, what they can do. It's a simple opener that doesn't take it too fast but instead masterfully lingers on life in a way that is still engaging thanks to the masterful dynamics between the four and the killer art.
The story ahead of us promises to be polyamarous, gender diverse, lesbian fuckery in the best way possible. There is compelling interpersonal trauma, personal trauma, relationships, friendships, adventures, magic systems, afterlife systems, and so much more. I really don't want to say too much other than, go read it now, do it, it's fucking good and it's free. You can even read it here, on tumblr, where I like linked in the first paragraph or on webtoon where I mostly read it or on Tapas or comics fury. 10/10, a truly special story, something like this comes around only ever so rarely, please support it so we can see this story reach the end.

Okay listen. I have seen some people who have listened to what conservatives say about their demographic, and try to be more like that to bother them. To be like “ha ha ha oh I am a big scary [fill in the blank] what are you going to do now? 👻”
And in some cases that’s good. Like if they say queer people are idk, socialists and then you become more interested in mutual aid and democratic socialism. Cool good.
In some cases that’s not so good, like if they say queer people are baby killers and you make a habit out of kicking in the heads of plastic baby dolls. I get it, you’re doing it for the meme. But you’re also publicly destroying representations of a minority group that doesn’t actually have many rights?
Or if they say child free women hate children so you make jokes about hating children and how gross and stupid they all are and how they should be banned from public spaces. Hey bud, that’s a persecuted demographic right there. What, what are you doing?
Im just saying, some of these traits are actually negative, and that’s why they are assigning then too you. Maybe don’t immediately and wholeheartedly adopt them? Maybe don’t base your personality around the hateful vie they have of you in their head and spend your life doing the equivalent of repeating what your friend says even though they’re making you say terrible things about yourself and others but you have to win the game? Maybe don’t spend your life on some fucked up version of Plato’s allegory of the cave except you’re mimicking the shadow puppet version of you they got up on the wall? Maybe don’t let horrible people decide and define who you are?
It’s hard living in a world where people hate you for being who you are, I know. But don’t define yourself by being the people you hate. Maybe define yourself by the people and things you love. Things like diversity, justice, art, human rights activism.
We are so much more then what they say we are. We need to keep being our amazing selves and ignore them until they get in the way of progress. At which point we shove them out of the way and keep going.
They’re not the supervillain to your superhero story, they’re a footnote in the book of your life. Laugh at them and move on.

#DIVERSITY WIN???
I'm laughing so hard over all the tags on this post but I gotta take the opportunity to tell folks:
If you have no idea what Chucky is about or who made it or what the plot is, you may be surprised and pleased to know that it is one of the queerest horror series out there. Don Mancini, the creator, is a gay man, and the films have been queer as hell since the beginning, in theming and subtext, but also in the main text.
I believe the first canon queer character shows up in the fourth movie, which was made in 1998, but it has only gotten more explicitly queer since. There are queer characters all over. John Waters himself plays a side character in the fifth movie. The currently-airing television show follows a pack of teenagers, including a pair of gay teenage boys. There are lesbian love affairs, bisexual murder babes, a gendahflooid killer doll, and constant commentaries about gender roles.
Like, Chucky is really, really queer. If you want queer horror, the work of Don Mancini should be on your list. Also, Clive Barker.
And if you can't really handle gore but still want to know all about how queer Chucky is, I recommend the Kill Count series from Dead Meat! The gore is blurred out and the plot summaries are very good. The host, James, goes into a ton of detail about how queer the series is. This link has the full playlist, but I particularly recommend the ones labelled "RECOUNT," because they have way, way more detailed info.
youtube
We finally started watching the Chucky TV show and I am once again personally thanking Brad Dourif for the way he says GENDAHFLOOID. It's so fucking great.

Acephobia and transphobia? Where? Like, actually where, I'm actually asking. Don't they have a whole ass ace character? How is it transphobic?
You don't have to answer lmao I'm just curious
ok I'll be honest, I legit do not remember. It was so long ago and I've detached myself so hard that I kinda forgot it existed until this week but here's a thing from some time ago but the main takeaway is child porn is bad; trans/ace representation not the best to say the least

🟩⬜️⬛️ Animes for aro/ace people - Part 2 ⬛️⬜️🟪
The list was getting a bit too long so I decided to make a different post.
~if you see this post as a reblog, make sure to go to the original post, chances are I edited and updated it! ;)
part 1 here
“Yofukashi No Uta” / “Call Of The Night” (13 episodes)🔻
Tumblr media
The protagonist wants to become a vampire, but for that to happen you need to be bitten by a vampire you are in love with, and he’s aro (can be both seen as aroallo or acespec). It’s not canon canon in-universe, but like, it’s canon, that’s literally what the plot is about. It has awkward wording/takes coming from the characters sometimes but it got the spirit. I haven’t finished the manga but I’ve been told that the character’s aromance is not invalidated to the end, and the story is precisely about how he doesn’t need to be “fixed”. The show tackles amatonormativity and the value of platonic relationships :). If you can’t handle or don’t like sensual/sexual stuff though, know that it’s omnipresent.
“Shimanami Tasogare” / “Our Dreams At Dusk” (4 volumes)🔻
Tumblr media
An LGBTQ+ manga with multiple kinds of representation, including an AAA battery (character who is agender/nonbinary and aroace). Canon and they said the word! Although they didn’t differentiate between aromantic and asexual; in my translation they used ‘asexual’ and meant it as aromantic as well I assume.
“Death Note” (37 episodes)🔻🔹
Tumblr media
Another big one but I’ll assume you don’t know about it so, basically: So misogynistic it’s gay. But also so homophobic it’s aroace. And since it’s a psychological thriller, romance is virtually nonexistent, except for a side character annoying girl who is in LOVE with the protagonist. Protagonist who does not show any interest whatsoever in romance/sex. He’s a serial killer but #diversity win I guess. I have admittedly only read the manga once when I was 12 so I may not remember these things accurately.
“Mob Psycho 100” (37 episodes + 2 OVAs)🔹
Tumblr media
A must watch regardless. But in this context, a show about life wisdom and connection in the most fundamental human way, which makes it a very platonic show. Because of the nature of the relationships between the protagonist and the other main cast (master/‘parental’ figure, brother, intergenerational friendship), there is literally not even the place for shipping, apart from like the 1 friend his age. And these platonic relationships, oh boy, are they explored and developed and heartwarming. The protagonist has an idealized crush on a girl and that’s the only romantic element there is, and it’s handled maturely and to carry the same main themes I mentioned earlier; it’s absolutely not there for the sake of being romanticized.
! Mp100 is a phenomenal show in many ways, queer representation is not one of them. it is very much incredibly cishet. warning for transmisogynistic humor.
“Gintama” (367 episodes + specials and movies, but don't worry 'bout it)🔹
Tumblr media
Genre: comedy. Gintama really is such a platonic show and I mean that as the highest compliment from an aspec person. If you’re looking for actual found family and other wholesome unconventional types of relationships you should know gintama is always there for you. Everything I said about mp100 just above is valid here too. Literally I don't know how to properly express how to me this show is about the celebration of platonic bonds! I literally made this meme, it's to this extent. An anime to bring up if someone pretends life (or fiction) without romance is pointless or less meaningful or whatever. And I'm not the only one who headcanons/interprets Gintoki (the protag) as aro(allo) <3.
warning: unsurprisingly for a comedy from the 2000s there is some offensive/insensitive queerphobic humour but it's (usually…) in a "they're a little confused but they got the spirit" way. Most importantly it's always humanizing. Like, the main characters would call me a slur while fighting alongside me for my rights. The LGBTQ+ community (me) has forgiven gintama.
It's unanimously beloved for a reason too, and aro ppl have all the more reason to vibe, so I recommend it in general; and don't think about the amount of episodes because I did at first and eventually I found myself devastated there were only like 50 left.
“Kimi No Sekai Ni Koi Wa Nai” / “Is Love The Answer?” (1 volume)🔻
Tumblr media
Another manga. It is a queer manga specifically about aromance and asexuality, following an aroace character (touch repulsed) and their experience of comphet and general compallo, feeling alienated, and then learning about this identity, finding queer community and accepting herself. It delves into the topics of labels and identity, acknowledging and embracing fluidity, vagueness, and spectrums. It actually presents specific aspec microidentities I’ve never seen acknowledged anywhere else in fiction, much less explored. It made me feel like crying and kicking my legs with glee. I won’t go say everything it talks about but I truly recommend it for anyone, not just aspec people; in general but especially if you want to learn more about the world of aspec identities. (Also not that any are reading this but I recommend it to exclusionists. Like idk how you can read this and not feel it evident that aspec people are queer)
The same author also did a manga called “Mine-kun Is Asexual” prior to this one, and wrote other things on the topics of romance, sexuality and gender identity :)
“Koisenu Futari” (="two people who can't fall in love" idk the official engish translation if there is one) (8 episodes)🔻
Tumblr media
This is a japanese drama. I have broadened the original topic of these posts a bit but I realized that with the microscopic amount of representation we have, why would I intentionally deprive people from knowing about the existence of this show? It is specifically about aromance and asexuality, and follows 2 aroace people who decide to live together and form a queerplatonic relationship. There are many other elements to the story and it touches upon multiple aspects of the aspec experience (lol aspects aspec), starting obviously with allonormativity and amatonormativity. Also our 2 main characters are both fully aroace but the show does make the distinction between aromantic and asexual, and shows a alloromantic asexual character at one point just for that clarification.
“Last Gender” (3 volumes)🔻
Tumblr media
Similar to Shimanami Tasogare; it’s an LGBTQ+ manga. This one is centered around a sex bar which 'accepts anyone of any gender or sexuality'. It has an aroallo character, a lithromantic character, and a character who, to my understanding, would be the closest labelled as greyromantic and greysexual. That’s just for the aspec characters but there are other, particularily underrepresented, identities and kinds of people in this manga, like a pansexual person, a bigender person, polyamorous people, or ‘simply’ a gnc woman.
content warning: it’s sexually explicit. I mean the setting is literally a sex bar.

🎥 CREEP (2014)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
14 Nov 2022 | Day 7/∞: Creep (2014) Trigger warnings: murder, creepy behaviour, stalking, drugging, SA mention
The classic found footage film and one I've been meaning to watch for a while! Josef is classically unhinged and it was delightful to not know whether anything he said was the truth or not. There seems to be sincerity only when he is in control of the situation. I quite honestly hoped that this would go down a Hannibal/Will Graham route, though it didn't - and still, it felt like I was watching a romcom half the time featuring a funny little guy and a stalwart videographer who can't get said funny little guy out of his head.
Tumblr media
Simply put, this is about the horror of answering Craigslist ads and encountering.... someone you don't want to encounter. Aaron answers Josef's ad and agrees to record him, believing that Josef is a terminally ill patient who wants to leave his son with a memento of who he was. They go on a walk and find a heart-shaped lake - romantic! great date idea josef - and then go to a diner where Josef reveals he took photos of Aaron. Uh oh! They get drunk and Aaron, unsettled by Josef, drugs him. Then Josef's phone rings and Aaron learns from Angela (Josef's sister) that Josef is dangerous. He tries to leave and, after a scuffle, succeeds. Then begins the courting; Josef sends him videos, gifts, a heart-shaped locket. Diversity win, the creep is bisexual! Then Josef asks Aaron to meet him at the park and of course he thwacks him in the head with an axe. Oh yeah, and Josef likes to wear a wolf mask and become a persona he calls Peachfuzz. Actual depiction of ending is as below:
Tumblr media
I do think that there was potential for the film to explore Josef more rather than turning it into straight, outright horror - it could've been a silly horror-adjacent romcom featuring a guy who doesn't know he's creepy. I've read some reviews on tumblr saying that he shows some aspects of bpd. It would've been really interesting to see him not be a killer and genuinely have a friendship with Aaron, who is genuinely kind of receptive to a connection (also Aaron is totally a repressed queer man by the way he definitely saw something in Josef I don't make the rules. that hot tub dream was sus af). It seems like the filmmakers were considering this idea - here are alternate endings that came with the DVD I think that I haven't seen floating around tumblr yet:
youtube
That first one would have been sweet!!!! I mean it still could've ended badly after, but hey. It is what it is.

Another idea worth addressing is that Aaron isn't a stupid protagonist, guys - also people in horror films are classically not making the best decisions, they're fucking scared! He tries to be polite to Josef because what else do you do when you're in someone's house in the middle of nowhere! What if he's being genuine, amirite? What do you DO if someone dumps some crazy crime that they've committed on you when you've got a whiskey in you? Anyway, Aaron is, surprisingly, nice, which was, I don't know, comforting to me in some way. Like Josef said, he was a nice guy.
Also the idea of found footage films are fascinating to me. I know this gets played with in Creep 2 a lot more, but it's also crazy to think about recording and how it has become such a huge part of our lives. It's our media. It's our digital memory bank. And Josef uses it to document his murders, and the lead up to the murders. You know? A versatile record.
Lastly, I fucking loathe the idea of tubby time. nononono

What r your fnaf sb sexuality and hc's?
I don't know if you mean like general headcanons, cause there's a lot but I'll throw in one or two per bot.
Freddy is gay gay homosexual gay. Yeah, the company does the "Oh look at him and Chica!" But he is like "Bonnie my beloved."
Practices his dance moves in his green room when no one is able to see him. He fucks it up on the dance floor
Used to accidentally throw the bowling balls into the ceiling at Bonnie bowl cause he legitimately does not understand how to bowl
Chica is a lesbian with a big fat crush on Roxanne. Like you don't understand how happy she was another chick was gonna be in the band and even happier that she was cute~
Wasn't designed to have taste buds, so she can't taste what she's eating, but has scent tractors for things like smoke and like monoxide
Has the most limber endo compared to the rest of the band as she runs the fitness area and needs to be able to run the class and move fluidly like a person
Roxanne is bisexual. I feel like she was set up to be with Monty like Freddy and Chica but then was like "Chica's kinda hot ngl" and like let him down gently. This was fine as Monty had other things on his mind too
Watches the repair people who fixed the cars and learned how to do it herself. It's like surgery ig cause she's also a machine but she doesn't think about that. She just likes to modify her sweet ride
Gets the zoomies and challenges the others to on-foot races, only Monty accepts and he has never one but he's in good sport about it.
Monty is also bisexual. Again, was set up to be with Roxy but other things. Feel like he had a crush on both Bonnie and Freddy because "Woah, two cool rocker dudes like my golf course wow" but jealousy can change things can't it. Still has a slight crush on Roxy
Used to invite everyone to come to play on the course, until replacements happen and tamperings. Now it's just awkward when he tries to
Animatronics consider conception and the date your A.I to be programmed to be your "birthday" so technically he is the youngest even if he is technically the same program age as everyone else
Sunrise & Moondrop are pan. Like they probably get crushes a lot but it's like the fleeting ones where you see someone pretty and imagine what it'd be like with them. The type that's in love with love. Music Man is a consistent one tho (Freak loving Freak)
The daycare is full of sensors so they can tell where kids are the moment they step into the play area. They get uncomfortable when they can't sense where people are around them
Their mouth used to be able to frown but Sunrise would constantly flip between manically happy to manically sad during playtime so it was constantly made to smile in hopes kids would be scared less.
Bonnie just is gay but the most deceptive gay ever. Like he dresses and acts like a suburban fun dad who would say the BBQ community cause he genuinely thinks it's correct. Only know he's gay cause he's with Freddy
Literally refused to let kids beat him at bowling. Like not in a mean way but in a "They have to learn to be better guys". Still gave out the victory prizes to everyone. No one's a loser if everyone's having fun!
Would hang around Gator Golf because there were a lot of cozy places to relax and he like the repetitive sounds of the golf balls being hit. Monty didn't mind cause Bonnie respected the silence needed and was good at conversation.
Diversity win! The killer animatronics are queer!!!

I completely abandoned any pretense about reaching my yearly reading goal this December, but I did manage to read one TBR book per month and read 50 of the books I wanted to in 2022, so I’m counting the year as a win. And I got close to the goal, anyway, at least if you include the picture books. (I do not like to include the picture books.) This month also included surprise highlights, surprise disappointments, and not one, but two, history books, which I feel like I never do.
December also, obviously, included a book haul. I got a couple books I asked for for Christmas, a couple books that came from the “give everyone an essay about my tastes” wishlists, and The Atlas Six, which arrived at work too damaged to sell but is still perfectly readable and it had been recommended by a friend…. The highlight is Weirdos of the Universe Unite!, however. I read this at least three times as a kid, via the public library, and I’m pretty sure we can credit my love of urban fantasy to it. That one’s actually part of my birthday haul, but the postal system got in the way. Very excited to (hopefully) reread it in 2023!
