I’ll give you a headcanon: I accept that at some point in time, most of the crazy stuff that happened to Donald in the old shorts did happen to the 2017 version of him (not being able to turn in early, building a ship, etc.).

Did you know that Mickey adopted a kid for 1 (one) short in 1934 (nineteen thirty four). His name was Elmer.

I had to check that out cause I've never heard of it??

Apparently it's a short called "Mickey Plays Papa" from 1934. (Here's to watch on youtube, just set it to 0,5x so is better paced)

He was left at Mickey's doorstep with a note

Right then we get Mickey pulling a shotgun to a baby

(he was reading a horror book and got scared at first thinking the baby was a monster don't worry)

He tries to make the baby laugh doing a Charlie Chaplin impression

Baby Elmer doesn't give a shit

Gotta say Pluto giving a bone to the baby cause he was hungry was cute okay

In the end, Baby Elmer only laughs when Mickey is looking like this.

Nightmare fuel.

There's other things that happen like Pluto fighting toys and Mickey trying to close a baby bottle and failing A LOT

But yeah, never thought I got to see Mickey trying his hardest to take care of a baby
