GUYS I'M SCREAMING RIGHT NOW: THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SECRET MONSTER SOCIETY IN NIMONA!!!!!!!
THERE SHE IS: OH MY GOD I WISH THE MOVIE WENT AHEAD WITH THIS: DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE THEMES??? OF FINALLY FINDING OTHERS IN THE QUEER COMMUNITY??? OF WHAT IT'S LIKE TO FINALLY GO TO THAT MARCH, TO THAT CLUB, AND SEE ALL OF THE OTHER OUTCASTS AND REALIZE YOU’RE NOT ALONE??? IT'S NOT JUST ALLIES, THAT THERE'S ACTUAL, OTHER, MONSTERS!!!????
[ID: A screenshot from the official Nimona artbook. It features Meredith Blitzmeyer pointing to the side, showing Nimona and Ballister Boldheart a vast room. It’s a purple-tinged area with a ceiling with light filtering through: It appears to be somewhere underground. There is ornate decorations of dragons at the sides, and broad arches and spiralling staircases. There are people of diverse skin tones with colorful outfits walking around: There’s someone with a spiked jacket, someone with a stylish updo dyed white, and more. The page number is 174. Text near the bottom reads “moment painting by jeff turley” Blitzmeyer is a pereson with dark skin, long silver hair in a ponytail, and wearing a lab coat with a pouch by her side. Boldheart is a knight with dark skin, short black hair, knight’s armour, and a sword. Nimona is a person with pale skin, a simple tunic, and pink choppy hair. All characters face away from the viewer. end ID]
[ID: text that reads “For a long time, the character of Meredith Blitzmeyer was in the film. She served many different functions in many different iterations. At one point, she had a magical van that was bigger on the inside. In another, she was covered from head to toe in magical tatoos. And in another, she was the head of a vast underground society, called the Silver Society, comprised of all the magical creatures forced into hiding by the institute. Ultimately, the story went in a different direction, but her design and model were so beloved that she wans’t lost but repurposed into The Queen. end ID]

Lots of "Nimona" movie concept art just dropped by Jeff Turley
Thoughts of what I'm seeing cut for minor spoilers
more concept art of long-haired Ambrosius (and some with him having a bun????
that Silver Society piece I see floating around in higher quality (the Silver Society was an organization that Ballister and Nimona were going to befriend, I kind of assume Blitzmeyer was tied up in them well, and so when one or the other got nixed, the other one did as well)
More of axlotl-looking Nimona, which, according to another artist, was going to be ancient Nimona, but got scrapped
Gloreth making her own kid armor??
So much more dragon Nimona T-T I'd have loved to see them flying together in the movie and not just in the look of picture animation...
#Nimona#Nimona movie#Nimona film#Nimona concept art#Nimona development#Ballister Boldheart#Ambrosius Goldenloin#Silver Society#Gloreth#ah this is all so beautiful

Below is my column on Fox.com on the expanding boycott of the Washington Post by Democratic politicians, pundits, and members of the press. The reason? Because owner Jeff Bezos wants to stay politically neutral and leave the matter to the public. In an age of advocacy journalism, the return to neutrality is intolerable. The reaction is itself revealing. In a heated meeting this week at the Post, writers were apoplectic with attacks on Bezos and alarm over the very notion of remaining neutral in an election. One declared to the group: “One thing that can’t happen in this country is for Trump to get another four years.” The immediate and reflexive call of the left for boycotts and canceling campaigns is all too familiar to many of us. The question is whether the targeting of Bezos could backfire in creating a major ally for the restoration of American journalism.
Here is the slightly altered column:
It is not every day that you go from being Obi-Wan Kenobi to Sheev Palpatine in twenty-four hours. However, Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos now has the distinction of having Luke (Mark Hamill) lead a boycott of his “democracy dies in darkness” newspaper as the daily of the darkside.
Figures like former Rep. Liz Cheney announced she was canceling her subscription as a boycott movement led a reported 200,000 to give up their subscriptions. Some like George Conway even seemed to target Bezos’ Amazon. It is a familiar pattern for many of us (on a smaller scale) who used to be associated with the left and faced cancel campaigns for questioning the orthodoxy in the media or academia.
Then something fascinating happened. Bezos stood his ground.

ROADGAMES (1981) – Episode 262 – Decades Of Horror 1980s
Quid: “Aren’t you kind of young to be hitchhiking out here all by yourself?” Hitch: “Aren’t you kind of old to be picking me up?” She’s got a point. Join your faithful Grue Crew – Chad Hunt, Bill Mulligan, and Jeff Mohr – as they take another trip down under for some Ozploitation with Richard Franklin’s Roadgames (1981).

It’s Ozploitation time again for the Grue Crew! This go-around, the Crew discusses Richard Franklin’s Roadgames (1981) starring Stacy Keach and Jamie Lee Curtis as the pair trek across Southern Australia’s Nullarbor Plain hauling pig carcasses from Melbourne to Perth. Conceived as Hitchcock’s Rear Window (1954) as seen from a tractor-trailer, Roadgames features encounters along the road with a cast of recurring travelers and a serial killer. Keach’s and Curtis’ chemistry is apparent in their engaging performances. Though not straight horror, Roadgames is horror-adjacent while generating its share of suspense amid horrific events.
At the time of this writing, Roadgames is available to stream from Amazon Prime, Peacock, Tubi, PlutoTV, and multiple PPV sources. The movie is available on physical media as a standard Blu-ray disc from Shout! Factory.
Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Bill, will be Evilspeak (1981), one of the video nasties, featuring Clint Howard as an outcast military cadet, R.G. Armstrong as Sarge, and Richard Moll in a supporting role. This should be interesting!
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans – so leave them a message or comment on the Gruesome Magazine Youtube channel, on the Gruesome Magazine website, or email the Decades of Horror 1980s podcast hosts at [email protected].
