Text under the cut
“Um… Can you stand..?” Asher asked quietly. Carefully, Paxton began to stand. Stumbling a bit, but Asher held onto his hands making sure he didn’t fall. He was mostly standing on his right leg, the one that didn’t get burned. Once he was finally standing, Asher turned around & lowered himself down. Without the support of Asher holding him, he nearly fell, but he quickly grabbed onto his back. “Wrap your arms around my neck so I can carry you,” Asher said.
Paxton didn’t love the idea of being carried, mostly because he didn’t want to accidentally choke him, but it was his only option. So gently, well as gently as he could in his state, Paxton wrapped his arms around Asher

Any guesses as to what Trick was suggesting dkxhsnzxkzh

[Text under the read more-]
Asher nodded along, “Yeah, that makes sense… But how do we avoid being caught again?” He asked. There wasn’t much coverage around them. No plants, no buildings, nothing. Just muted greyish brown dirt that nearly blended in to the the grey sky, that hadn’t changed the whole time Asher had been in this world, which, while he didn’t have a way of checking time, wss definitely well over a few hours.
“I suppose our only option is to follow closely & hope we don’t get caught,” Treat said after a moment of looking around. Asher watched Trick look around at their current environment.
“What if we-” Before Trick could finish, Treat cut him off, with a swift “No.”
“What if we do what?” Asher asked tentatively. Treat gave Trick a look, seemingly thinking “Go ahead, explain your bright idea”.
“Well, the Lites are over there on the ground, and Treat has a knife, so what if we-” Asher began to realize where this was going & began to frantically shake his head. The thought alone made him sick.

Text under the cut
Vlad watched as Aurora tried to break through the machines wall, but there was no use. There was one material she couldn’t break through & the only place to get it was in The Starter. The only person who could get some was his father. This was made with her in mind. As her vines hit the machine, not even leaving a dent, the machine stopped.

Excerpt from chapter twelve of Deaths Diner:
It did sort of hurt not being alive. He missed the things he used to be able to do. He missed baking all day & Treat decorating his baked good with her homemade candy. There were things he loved here of course, but it wasn’t the same. He didn’t particularly mind being dead - not as much as other do that is. He liked it here. But that doesn’t mean parts of him didn’t miss being alive.

Deaths Diner: Chapter Eleven
Aurora & Treat had long since stopped talking. Not for any reason in particular, they just, stopped for the time being. Aurora thought about Treat. Vlad had never told her how the twins died, though he was never one to talk about the deaths of the living anyway, but judging by how they looked it must’ve been gruesome. Especially Treats. A large slash was on her throat, so deep that it was surprising her head was still attached to her body. Who could do that to someone like her…
She turned to say something to Treat - what that was going to be she didn’t know yet, but when she looked to her right Treat was… Gone.
Trying to stay calm, Aurora looked behind where they were to see if she had simply slowed down for some reason. Not there. She looked ahead to see if maybe she went ahead to talk to Vlad or Trick or even Paxton. Also not there.
Everyone was engrossed into their own worlds. Paxton seemed to be examining every inch of the tunnel in front of him for a sign of Dexter, Trick & Vlad were talking about who knows what, while Unix & Asher were both in their own world, they weren’t talking but they didn’t seem… Present.
Aurora turned & rushed towards Unix & Asher.
“Hey, did you guys happen to see where Treat went?” She asked urgently. They looked up at her confused & looked around the tunnel.
“No? Wasn’t she with you?” Unix said in response. She didn’t know how they couldn’t have seen what happened to her. Granted, she hadn’t either, but they were… How could they have not seen anything?
She didn’t say anything back. What could she say? They didn’t do anything wrong.
Not wanting to waste anymore time, she rushed to catch up to Vlad & the others to see if they knew. Or if they knew what to do.
She grabbed onto Vlads arm, a bit rougher than she was trying to, and stopped him, “Do you know where Treat went?” She questioned, he voice a bit more distressed than she would’ve liked.
“Is she not with you?” He asked. Obviously not she wanted to say, but she didn’t. He ended up grasping what was happening & started looking all around them.
Everyone had stopped walking at this point. It seemed as though while Paxton wanted to find Dexter as soon as possible, he was sympathetic to the situation. He bore a look of concern on his face, rather than annoyance, like Aurora would’ve expected. Which was presumptuous on her end, given how she’s only met him today. Yesterday if you count when she met the four when they were… But that’s not important right now. They had to find Treat and then find Dexter.
“When was the last time you saw her?” Trick asked, looking around with Vlad. It seemed useless to look around when there was nowhere she could’ve gone, but at the same time, there wasn’t much they could do. She just vanished into thin air.
“She was right next to me while we were walking I don’t know how she just…” She trailed off. While she wasn’t as familiar with this place as Vlad was, or the Deaths, she still knew her way around this place. Or at least she thought she did.
“Why don’t we double back? Check the walls, floor, ceiling, & shit for any discrepancies?” Paxton suggested.
“Yeah, yeah that’s a good idea,” Aurora said. She turned around & placed her palm on the wall.
She felt to see how far the wall went. She had never really needed to do this, so she wasn’t as good at doing it as she could be, bit it was better than nothing. She slowly moved forward, trying to make sure she didn’t miss anything.
It was hard for her to do this as well as keep the flames bright enough for everyone else to see.
As she focused harder on feeling how far the wall went, the flames began to dim.
Thats when she felt it.
The spot her hand was on didn’t go as far back as the other places did. In fact, it felt much closer.
The flames went out as she focused her energy, everyone voiced their confusion, but Aurora wasn’t focusing on them. The rocks beneath her palm began to crack as the wall opened.
It wasn’t too difficult at first. It was like when she made this tunnel earlier [but easier given how she currently wasn’t being attacked]. But then it got… Hard. It was like something didn’t want her to break through the wall. She could see where it had stopped, but it looked exactly the same as the previous rock looked. The first bit was like breaking through a door that was already open. This part felt like slamming your whole body against a locked door while someone else was putting their whole weight on the door to make sure it didn’t give in. The ground began to shake as everything around them began to crumble. It was only until the ceiling began to cave in did she decide to call for back up, not wanting souls to get in.
“Vlad, I’m gonna need some help,” Aurora called out. Over the noise she heard him move closer until she saw him in the corner of her eyes. “I can’t break through this rock” She said.
Vlad unwrapped his antennas from his neck. Antenna wasn’t the best word though. The were more like tentacle-esque appendages that coiled around his neck.
She didn’t know what he was planning on doing with them. He waved for her to pause, which she begrudgingly obliged. Vlad placed his antennas to the wall and listened closely, tapping gently on the wall.
It was silent for a few moments, barring Vlads tapping.
Vlad pointed to a spot on the lower part of the wall, “Theres a weak spot”.
With nothing more needed, Aurora began to break through the rock. It was still harder than usual, but still a great deal easier than prior. The spot Vlad had pointed out began to give in-
CRACK
Dark blue light began to fill the room. Shuffling could be heard on the other side of the wall, and in seconds the wall blasted away. Too much Aurora thought. Rock splashed in their direction, Aurora stopping the rocks mid-air, before letting them fall gently to the ground.
Before them was a cave, filled with glowing blue crystals. There appeared to be other routes & this was just an entrance of sorts.
But that wasn’t their main concern at the moments.
Stood before them was… Two Treats. They both were breathing heavily, looking up at the now destroyed wall. The Treats looked at each other, both looking taken aback upon seeing the other.
“Thats not- you’re not-” They both said in unison, disbelief filled their voices. They sounded identical as well.
The Treats both rushed over to the group, “You- you guys, that’s not me” The both said. To their expressions to their inflections, they looked & sounded the same. The Treats rushed over to Trick, “Please, you have to recognize me”
Trick stammered, not being able to tell the difference, before gathering himself. “How about we quiz you two to see which ones real?” Vlad said stepping in. Both the Treats nodded, eager to prove themselves to be the real one. “We… Have to talk about what to ask you two so… Go stand over there?” Vlad said, pointing further into the cave. The Treats begrudgingly listened, hesitantly walking away from the group.
Once they were far enough away, Vlad turned around to speak to the group, “Trick, you should question them,”
“Why me?” Trick asked, not wanting to be the soul one responsible for figuring out who of the two was the real one.
“Because you’re her brother,” Vlad said, “ You know her better than any of us do”. Which was true. Aurora had only just met Trick & Treat, and while Vlad was good friends with her, she didn’t talk about what she was like in life often, if at all. Only Trick knew the answers to those question. Vlad saw Tricks hesitation & continued, “Remember, she can’t die for a second time,” He said gently. This seemed to ease Tricks nerves.
Trick turned to face his sister and her imposter. “Okay Treat & Fake Treat, what was…” He paused, trying to think of a good question, “The name of the neighborhood cat?” He asked.
“VERMIN!” Both the Treats said eagerly, before realizing the other had gotten the answer correctly too.
This was going to be harder than we thought Aurora thought to herself.
“Oh um… Thats correct…” Trick said, “Okay! How about… What happened that made you not get any birthday when we turned eight or Halloween presents that year?” He asked. Aurora was a bit taken aback at the part about Halloween presents, but judging by their clothing, she couldn’t say she was too shocked.
“I SET THE CHRISTMAS FAMILIES TREE ON FIRE!” Once again, they spoke in unison.
This went back & forth for a bit. Trick would ask a question, the Treats would answer in unison, the same expression & the same tone. Neither faltered. Not a split second were their expressions weren’t identical. Even as the questions got more specific, they both knew the answer right away.
Trick paused after asked the latest question - what was the color of the flameball Trick, Treat, & the Valentines kids sent launching towards the christmas kids [Green & red]. He got a somber look on his face. “How did… How did you die?” No one was talking before, but the silence grew thicker once he asked the question. It was obvious that her death was gruesome, but no one knew exactly how she died. Besides her, the Death that collected her, and whoever did that to her.
Only one of the Treats spoke this time, the one on the right. The voice was shook as sadness filled the few words it spoke, “The Christmas…” It realized the other Treat wasn’t speaking. The other Treat had tears filling her eyes, as she touched her neck.
Just as soon as it spoke, Trick aimed his gun at the one that spoke, the one on the right. “That one. Thats the fake Treat.” The one of the left ran over to the group upon hearing Tricks decision.
Raising its hands, it began to plead, “Trick come on, you- you can’t do this - thats not me,” It said. Tricks hands shook. Judging by the look on his face, Aurora could tell a part of his wasn’t fully sure he was right. Or maybe he didn’t like the idea of holding someone that looked like his sister at gunpoint.
Despite any of that, with hands still shaking, Trick shot.
A bullet came out & flew through the air towards the other Treats face, until it stopped inches away from it’s eye.
It’s voice distorted, “Ya know, you’re a lot smarter than you look,” It said with a low chuckle. Its body began to morph into a new creature. Fake Treats eyes rolled back, long horizontal pupils filled its yellow eyes. It looked like it was from… No, something from there couldn’t get here Aurora thought to herself.
Tentacles burst from its body, violently thrashing around at everyone. Its body morphed into a giant blob of bubbling dark orange flesh. Six tentacles thrashed around. It still had a large toothy grin in the middle of its stomach & huge bulging eyes. Its erratic movement slammed into the group, separating them. Treat, Unix, & Trick on the left side, Asher, Paxton, Vlad, & Aurora on the right.
Aurora quickly recovered & sprung into action, wrapping vines around its tentacles. The creature was stronger than the last one she had faced, breaking away from them easily. It swung one of its many tentacles at her, she ducked down, barely dodging it, when another came crashing down. She held her arms up, sending a strong gust of wind above her to block the blow, but it was much stronger. The wind did stop it, but she could feel herself about to give in.
The tentacle broke through the air & once again began crashing down. Aurora conjured up a plethora of poisonous plants & blasted them towards the creature, but it didn’t seem to affect it. A tentacle was about to hit her head, but before she could react or even conjure up some sort of protection, it stopped mid air.
Looking behind her, Aurora saw Asher holding the tentacle in his hands. He had a panicked look on his face, clearly not having thought through what he was doing.
Instead of slamming more at this action though, the creatures howled in pain as its flesh began to rot beneath Ashers finger tips. Seeming freaked out at this fact, Asher in a panic dropped the creatures tentacle.
The creature pulled its wounded tentacle to its face, clearly needing a moment to recover. Aurora took this moment to stand up & rush over to Asher.
“How did you do that?” She asked quickly.
“I- I don’t know, I just- I don’t know,” Asher stammered, his voice shaking.
“Okay, okay, I’m going to try something, but you have to trust me, okay?” She asked urgently. Asher was shaking, but nodded his head in agreement.
She positioned herself behind him & using a large gust of wind, sent him launching towards the creature. She felt terrible to do so given his state at merely touching the creature, but it seemed as though her plan worked.
Asher crashed into the middle of the creature. The second he made contact with it, its flesh once again began to bubble & decay at his touch. This time its howl was twice as loud as before as Asher sank lower inside of the creatures rotting figure. She could see him scrambling to get out of the thing, so she grew a vine, grabbing him with it & pulling him away.
It seemed as though the brief time Asher made contact with the creature was long enough to seriously damage it. It rolled around & began to shrink. Its body cycled through different forms until it landed on Aurora. This version of Aurora was highly damaged though. It looked like even though it could still shape-shift, it couldn’t fully mask the damage done.
It stood up & made its way over to them, stumbling with every step. Aurora readied herself in case it tried to attack again, and a now crying Asher shakily did the same. It looked at Asher & paused for a moment.
“Ah I see now,” It said, voice weak & rough, “This is just wonderful” Its voice was filled with some sort of sick joy.
“Wh- what is?” Asher said, voice shaking. The creature smiled.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” It said looking at him & then at Sage, “But I better be on my way, I must prepare for the show.” It continued, changing into a smaller version of its prior form.
Paxton rushed forward, “Wait, what did you do tp Dexter?” He demanded.
The creature stopped for a moment, “Oh that small thing? I didn’t have the chance to meet him. Someone else grabbed him. Something about him escaping & The Head will be very pleased to have him back,” Aurora felt her blood run cold, “But like I said I really must be on my way,”
It rolled away. Paxton was about to chase after it when Vlad stopped him.
“What are you doing? You’re just gonna let that thing go?” Paxton said, trying to get to the creature, “It probably did something to him!”
“It didn’t. If it’s telling the truth, risking fighting this thing will make it so we will never get Dexter back,” Vlad said.
“How do you know?” Paxton said, anger filling his voice.
“Because, I know who The Head is & he doesn’t like humans, especially the ones that are alive,” Vlad said “And if he get ahold of a living human, he’ll make sure theres not a chance they leave this place alive…”
“How do you know that?”
“The Head is… My dad… And having Dexters fate in his hands would be sentencing him to a fate worse than death”

Deaths Diner: Chapter Ten
Soon after everyone that could eat got a bit of fruit & water, they continued on their way to find Dexter. Treat was near the front of the group. Paxton & Vlad were leading the group, Trick was with Vlad. Aurora was next to Treat on her left, and the other two, Sage & Asher, were behind them.
Those two were fairly quiet. Even when that monster attacked the diner, they didn’t say much. Unix-Sage sometimes spoke up more, but barring the when he introduced the two of them Asher never really talked unless it was through Unix-Sage. They seemed sweet though. As far as Treat could tell at least.
It wasn’t too bad down here. The flame bubbles Aurora made light the area up fairly well. She didn’t bother to count how many bubbles there were, but it was enough. There were a few just ahead of Vlad, Trick, & Paxton, a few next to them, a few next to Treat & Aurora, & a few next to Unix-Sage & Asher.
She liked it here. Not in this weird tunnel of course, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t ideal. She liked the waiting room. That’s what Vlad called this place at least. Souls would come here as their first stop after death. Some would be waiting for someone else [or several others] & some would just need more time to cope. Just because someone didn’t go so mad with the reality they were in, doesn’t mean they coped well with the situation.
It was normally children that were waiting. Some kids would move on, maybe they had a grandparent or aunt/uncle or someone else waiting for them. Or perhaps a parent that had passed before them. But most sat & waited. It wasn’t often, but sometimes, no one would come for them. Those kids stayed at what Vlad called The Central. He had never taken her or Trick - thats were his dad was, and he wasn’t too close to his father. He didn’t really talk about why - which she respected, besides her siblings, she wasn’t too close to her family & that seemed to be the same situation with Vlad.
She still remembered when she first got here. It was scary - she didn’t like admitting that, she always considered herself brave in life. Maybe a bit too brave… But most people would be scared to die, even if they didn’t want to admit it. Even if they didn’t even realize themselves that they were scared.
Trick had died first. They weren’t with each other when they died, in fact up until meeting here, they hadn’t known the other was even in danger.
She touched the wound on her neck. She wished it would go away.
Most would of course, but even still. Maybe if she wasn’t… The way she was, in life, they’d both be alive.
She liked it here. It was better, in ways, than their old home. And Trick was so happy with Vlad. But she wished they hadn’t met such tragic ends…
“Treat?” Aurora said. Treat glanced up at Aurora. “Are you alright?” She asked.
“I- yeah, yeah I’m fine, why do you ask?” She said, the words stumbling out of her mouth, she felt her voice raise in pitch as she spoke.
“You just seemed really in your head, thats all,”
“Oh…” Was all Treat said, before realizing she should probably say more, “Um- thanks for checking! How- how are you doing?” Treat asked. She glanced back up at Aurora, who let out a soft laugh, briefly & swore she saw her smile.
“I’m… Well, as good as one can be in this sort of situation?”
Treat smiled & said a soft “Yeah” But she doubted Aurora heard her.
They walked in silence for a few moments, when she noticed a flower floated in her direction. It was a deep green & bright orange stripped flower.
Treat gently picked it up. She had held things made in this place, made by beings that resided here, but nothing that she had made. A part of her was worried it’d slip out of her fingers & onto the ground they were walking on.
But it didn’t.
It felt different than the stuff made here felt. It was hard to explain, you’d have to die to understand. It felt like touching a world she hadn’t even realized she had forgotten the touch of.
“I thought you couldn’t…” She began, trailing off.
“I haven’t mastered fruits & other foods, but I’ve been able to make a couple flowers that seemed successful,” Aurora said
“Was this… The first one to work?” She asked.
“As far as I know,”
“What if it didn’t work?”
“Then I suppose I’d have to make the flower follow you for all eternity,”
Treat felt her face heat up. She gently placed the flower in her hair.

Deaths Diner: Chapter Nine
Once Vlad saw the soul floating down he ran over to Asher & Sage, grabbing onto their wrists & pulling them away. He saw the more begin to follow the first one. Aurora was already leading Paxton & Treat away, but Trick waited for him. Vlad used one of the antennas wrapped around his neck to grab Tricks wrist & pull him along.
They backed further away,  but more & more kept coming down.
“Where are we going?” Asher asked, his voice filled with anxiety. Vlad looked around. They had caught up to Aurora, Paxton, and Treat, but there was nowhere else to go besides further upstream.
“We- we could uh-” Vlad tried to think fast, the souls were getting closer, “Up?” he suggested.
“No, no way, you can go up, but I’m finding my friend even if those things chase me” Paxton said.
“Why don’t we make a new path?” Trick suggested.
“How? Theres nowhere else to go!” Vlad replied, still not knowing what to do. They didn’t have much time, the ones on the other side of them started coming down too, as well as the ones above them.
“I can make one,” Aurora said, she motioned for everyone to move to the left wall of the river, to which they all obliged. The ground beneath them began to rumble & open, as Aurora foraged a new path for them to go down.
As the ground crumbled below them, the sounds of the souls got louder. The sounded different, angrier. They were still wailing & screaming, but it didn’t sound… Right. Or rather right by the standards of this place. They began to grow closer, Vlad didn’t have an powers like Auroras, or at least any that’d be useful in a fight, but he did his best to keep them back. He used his hands & the antennas around his neck to throw them away, but more kept coming, & he didn’t have enough limbs to keep them all away. The others did their best to help.
Trick & Treat matched what he was doing, throwing them in a different direction, while Sage & Asher did the same as well. It was different though. It may be because he couldn’t focus on what everyone was doing at the same time, but he could’ve sworn whenever Sage grabbed one it’d… It’d speak. He’s never heard one of them speak. Where as whenever Asher grabbed one, it seemed like the screaming intensified.
Paxton was aggressively throwing them back like them, but he was also throwing them into the walls, and as far as he could tell, it was intentional. It didn’t do much to hurt them, they did sort of explode due to the force of being thrown into the wall, but they quickly regrouped, as if nothing had happened. It did grant them an extra second or so, which was better than nothing.
It was hard to stay balanced, Aurora kept the piece of the ground they were on in the air, but directly below them was nothing. That mixed with the softness of the the ground already made for a very wobbly situation. One latched onto Paxtons arm, catching him off-guard, causing him to begin to stumble backwards. He was about to fall when Asher grabbed onto his arm before he fell. He pulled him back up, before quickly helping him get the soul off his arms. Paxton said a quick ‘Thank you’ before they both continued to grab the incoming souls. Treat stumbled backwards, bumping into Auroras back. Aurora faltered for a moment, making the ground beneath them begin to fall, but she quickly recovered & raised the ground once more.
Aurora finished making the opening of the tunnel, & they all rushed inside it. Or rather, Aurora let the piece they were on drop, making them all tumble to the new floor below them. Aurora closed the opening behind her, narrowly missing a few of the souls slipping in. A small flame light up Auroras hands, before it floated off. She was making floating light bubble to illuminate their surroundings. The new tunnel didn’t look much different than the original river, other than the fact that the ground was far more firm than the original one they stood on, as well as the fact they no longer had the bright blue light of the souls, but now the orange light from the flame bubbles Aurora made.
It took them all a moment to stand up & catch their breath. “Is everyone okay?” Vlad asked. He walked over to Trick & checked him over. He looked fine but, this whole situation wasn’t right. He just wanted to be sure. He was about to check on Treat as well, when he saw Aurora already doing that. He looked at Treat, whos face was a mix of panic & an awkward smile she was clearly trying to suppress.
“Um, yeah, we’re- we’ve fine,” Asher said quietly. He & Sage both looked fine, but Asher always spoke as if he was unsure of himself, so Vlad went over to check on them too. Nothing seemed wrong with them, as Asher had said.
“Hows you arm?” Vlad asked Paxton. His jacket, which was made of pink leather, had visible marks on it from the soul that had latched onto him.
Paxton took a moment to feel his arm before responding, “Uh, fine,” was all he said. He began to look around at their new surroundings “How are we supposed to know where we’re going now?”
“Well, the direction of the river hasn’t changed, so we’re still going to go that way,” Vlad said, pointing down one direction of the tunnel.
“Yeah but, how are we supposed to know where we are” Paxton asked. That was a point Vlad hadn’t considered.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there I suppose. Ideally we’ll walk down here for a bit, then Aurora & I will check to make sure everythings clear. As well as check were we are,” Vlad explained. That was the best he could come up with right now.
He looked over & saw Asher whispering something into Sages ear. Sage checked his pockets & shook his head.
“Uh, hey - is there anything to ya know… Eat?” Sage asked. To Vlad this was a dumb question, there was no need for food in this place - or at least food they could eat. But they were new here & had no way of knowing that. Before he could respond though, Aurora spoke up.
“What sort of fruit do you like?” She asked them.
“Any kind of fruit really… Apples the most I guess?” Sage said looking at Asher for conformation, to which Asher nodded in agreement.
“And you?” She asked, turning her attention to Paxton. He hesitated for a moment.
“We should really hurry & find Dexter…” He said.
“Not eating anything won’t help us find him faster,” She said “Now, would you like apples, or something else?”
“Apples are fine.”
Aurora nodded & smiled. A small tree began to sprout from the ground. It gave a soft rumble, less loud & aggressive than the rumble that came from Aurora bringing them down here. It quickly began to grow leaves before flowers started to appear, and then bright green apples. “Grab them when they’re to your liking.” she said to the three of them.
Vlad got weird looks when he waited fo the apples to be almost fully rotted before grabbing one for himself, but they just tasted better that way. Any earlier & they’d be too sour & crunchy. He liked when they were soft, sweet, and a little moldy. This wasn’t new to Trick, but that didn’t stop his boyfriend from reeling in disgust watching him eat it.
“Sorry,” Aurora said to Treat. Unfortunately for them, Trick & Treat couldn’t eat the food Aurora could produce, so they had to simply watch as everyone else ate. But trick was having fun giving Vlad grief for eating rotten food, so he seemingly didn’t mind not getting anything.
“Ah its- don’t worry about it,” Treat said quickly, her voice raising in pitch. On the bright side, sort of, they also didn’t need to eat, nor could they feel hunger, so it wasn’t as bad for them. Though Aurora always felt bad when the dead couldn’t eat the plants she could make. She always tried to better her abilities, so maybe one day anyone could have something - whether or not they’re dead or alive. “Don’t worry, once I figure out how to make plants the dead can interact with you’ll be the first to know” She said, taking a step closer to Treat. Treat gave a big smile, although it was clear she was trying to suppress it, & looked away.

Deaths Diner: Chapter Eight
What if he was wrong? What if he didn’t go this way and - and he just killed Dexter? Anxious thoughts like this rushed through Ashers head. Logically he knew that that was their only lead, and if he didn’t bring it up, someone else would’ve… Probably. Hopefully someone else would’ve. But he didn’t like the idea of it being his fault if they didn’t find Dexter.
Even though he had been the one to find it, he & Sage were in the back of the group. He didn’t like being too close to the action. That’s why they didn’t go out when whatever happened to that dead lady happened. That & the fairy girl told them to wait there & he wasn’t one to argue. Which wasn’t great when the halloween boy told them to come out with them when everyone else was taking too long.
He didn’t know why Sage had agreed to go out, but Sage was always more adventurous than he was, and since their parents never allowed them to do anything separately for whatever reason, he was sort of… Forced, into adventure. Of course Sage didn’t know how unhappy he was with this, or if he was he decided not to acknowledge it. Asher didn’t talk about it because he didn’t want to be a buzzkill. Without Sage everyone thought he was a buzzkill anyway, and he didn’t want to add to that. Everyone always found an excuse to not be around him, which he understood, he could be boring, at least he thought he was boring. Though he wished people tried to make better excuses. They always pretended like they were sick when they were one on one with each other [or in a group without Sage].
He felt bad for not remembering most of the groups names, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be that important in the end. Once they were out of here, he would never see anyone here, of course not counting his brother. He had only remembered Dexter because of the panic. And he liked the way the x in his name sounded. He liked names with X’s in them. That’s also why he remembered Paxtons name. The both had pretty names. Especially Paxton.
The cave - or river? Wasn’t very bright. It wasn’t dark, but with how bright those things were before they came in here, it doesn’t make sense as to why it was so dark. Maybe their light was focused on their top halfs? The freaky bat guy was leading the group ahead. He didn’t want to go near him, seeing as he made his face into a human face & then proceeded to melt it right before their eyes. He didn’t like that guy. He didn’t seem mean, or evil or something, but he didn’t like the possibility of him doing that again.
Everything looked the same down here. The things above them moved towards the right, so they were going upstream. Well… He thinks they were going upstream. He was homeschooled & it seemed his parents skipped the nature part of their science studies. He went to elementary school, but his dads pulled them out when they got to middle school. They wanted him & Sage to have the exact same schedules. Apparently their local middle schools didn’t want to cooperate with that. But he learned about streams & rivers in elementary school.
The walls down here felt a lot more firm than the floor did.
Asher looked up. One of the things had stopped. It was staring at him. It didn’t really have a face - or not one that he could make out. But he could tell it was mad at him. Or didn’t want him here. It didn’t have eyes, but he could tell it was looking at him, not the rest of the group.
“Um…” He didn’t know if it was important, but he gestured up, “That things looking at me…” He said quietly to Sage. He didn’t want the rest of the group to hear, as it probably wasn’t too important, & the people who live here keep saying they have to hurry, so he didn’t want to delay things with him being anxious.
Sage looked up at the thing that stopped. As popular as he was, Sage seemingly liked having Asher around, which of course Asher didn’t get, everyone always seemed bummed when they both came, rather than just Sage & he would be more liked if he didn’t have Asher tagging along. But he was always protective of Asher. Before Sage could even say anything, that thing began to start to float down. Slowly, but still.
“Hey!” Sage yelled ahead, getting the rest of the groups attention, much to Ashers dismay. Paxton & the bat guy looked annoyed, especially Paxton, but they all stopped, “Is that thing supposed to start coming down?”
The bat guys face immediately dropped as he rushed over to them. It seemed as though Asher was wrong about the lack of importance this had.
