*note: this is only for what we consider as main characters, or recurring side characters! if you need clarification for a character that isn't here, send either of us an ask!

common terminology:

daren 大人 (suffix) — gender-neutral honorific often translated as Mr. or Ms. (e.g. Pei-daren = Ms. Pei)

xiao 小 (prefix) — little (e.g. Xiao-Jiu = Little Jiu)

jie/jiejie 姐姐 (suffix) — older sister (e.g. Wen-jiejie)

ge/gege 哥哥 (suffix) — older brother (e.g. Xiao-Zhuo-ge)

didi 弟弟 (suffix) — younger brother (e.g. Bai Jiu-didi) 

“A-” 阿 (prefix) — added before a single character of someone’s name/address, to indicate affection, familiarity, closeness etc (e.g. A-Heng, A-jie)

“er” 儿 (suffix) — added after a single character of someone’s name & is an affectionate term used by someone (often older) whose relationship to them involves some kind of caregiving; can be romantic or platonic (e.g. Wen Xiao’s foster father calling her Xiao’er)

common mistakes:

referring to someone with only one character—in chinese this is generally considered odd (e.g. Zhuo Yichen as “Zhuo”) and is not recommended unless done in-story (e.g. 蜚 Fei’s name just being Fei).

referring to a character by only their surname (e.g. Pei Sijing as “Pei”). chinese names put surnames before given names. (to call her by just her given name, use “Sijing”.)

referring to a character with a 2-character name by only their given name (e.g. Bai Jiu as “Jiu”). since his given name is only 1 character, it can’t be used on its own. using just the given name generally only works with 3-character names (e.g. Zhao Yuanzhou can be referred to as just “Yuanzhou”).

NOTE 1: calling a character by their given name usually implies closeness and informality. generally it is more common among chinese-speakers to use each other’s full names or their surnames combined with a title.

NOTE 2: to call a character by their surname or 1-character given name, you add on a prefix or suffix (e.g. Xiao-Zhuo or Xiao-Chen with Zhuo Yichen, Wen-jiejie or Xiao-jie with Wen Xiao)

NOTE 3: jiejie, gege, didi, (+meimei, what Wen Xiao called E’shou) are not just addresses exclusive to those of blood/familial relation! they can be used to address anyone younger/older than you and also be used in a flirtatious manner (e.g. Wen Xiao’s “Pei-jiejie” is very different from Bai Jiu’s “Pei-jiejie”)!

oh one of my dearest old headcanons for tdroti was when the cast was announced knock off merchandisers immediately got to work after the success of gen 1 and mass produced shitty little button pins of each contestant with the photos either poorly cropped promotional material or straight up personal photos of their faces from the internet

dakota already keeping an eye on her publicity finds them and goes wow these are the ugliest things ive ever seen. and buys the cast an entire pack

everyone gets a pin of their own face and while some people (scott) immediately threw it out some have been traded around or kept in their bags because come on theyre funny looking. there's an ongoing competition to see who can keep brick's the longest. mike gives zoey his pin instead of that terrifying necklace. b has managed to accumulate atleast 3 of his face and they dont know how.

How much evidence would you need laid out before you to be convinced vampires are real?

There's a sliding scale in vampire movies for how quickly the characters come to the conclusion that vampires are out and about and attacking people.

You got 'From Dusk till Dawn' at one end where right out the gate the characters accept the situation that they're going to have to fight their way out of a vampire den.

at the other end you've got 'Midnight Mass' where the characters don't ever even say the word vampire and are 1000% convinced what they're seeing is either a miraculous act of God or must surely be explained by science.

Somewhere in the middle you've got Bella's just doing an internet search for answers.

Your standard 'Dracula's and 'Lost Boys' where a character is already up to speed on the vampires and just lays it out for everyone else.

So here's the question. Where do you stand on that scale? How much evidence would you need laid out before you to be convinced of vampires?

Because for me personally, I can't just be running out of a slowly human to vampire transforming town every time some guy says so. Moving's a bitch.

But at the same time I'd rather not let victims just pile up before I make any reasonable stand against them or run away for safety.

So what's a reasonable piece of evidence/amount of evidence for one to be convinced to believe in the existence vampires?

i forgot that i gave chiyo fangs in her b.nha verse and now i'm just sitting here, imagining her smiling and laughing and there's those pointy lil teeth... they're really cute but it does make you think " why does she have those?? " bc most people think chiyo's quirk is related to a chameleon's skin cells rather than an octopus' -- in fact, there's an active debate within the small following of people who keep up with her career. and chiyo doesn't ever clarify this detail, rather just explaining how her quirk works on occasion and avoiding the comparison of herself and any creatures. she doesn't want what little public image she has to involve such a thing bc sometimes people get weird about it :/ and she will shrivel up and die if she ever perceives something vile :/

all this to say: remember that chiyo does have fangs bc like an octopus, she has a venomous bite that is capable of paralysis and worse. she just rarely needs to resort to using it!
