The Power of Cultural Works: Impact on Web3
In recent times, we have witnessed several instances where cultural works and their creators have had a significant impact on industries. One of the most notable cases is Dave Carroll’s protest song “United Breaks Guitars,” which caused United Airlines’ market value to drop by $180 million in 2008. Similarly, in 2022, TikTok influencer Salem Ilese’s song “Crypto Boy” caused a widespread crash in…

Video of the Week: "United Breaks Guitars"
Video of the Week: “United Breaks Guitars”
In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didn’t deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on…

Bending Steel: A Doc About a Latter Day Strong Man
Bending Steel: A Doc About a Latter Day Strong Man
Originally published in The Villager, April 2013 Bending Steel is an unexpectedly moving documentary by director Dave Carroll about a guy with the Quixotic dream of becoming an old time circus strong man. Chris Schoeck, the film’s subject is a 43 year old physical therapist and self-professed loner who literally spends all of his spare time in a storage room straining to bend pieces of metal. To…

One Year Of The Newsreader’s Season Two!
.
.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today is the 10th of September, and guess what happened this day, one year ago? After almost 24 months of being off air, The Newsreader returned with its second season. Today, Decision 87 is a full year old! (Well, technically 37 years old 😉)
Season Two is a year old; my goodness, that came around fast, didn’t it? After pretty much clawing at every hard surface I could find in frustration over having to wait for Season Two (it had been a long time since Season One finished, after all), sitting down to watch this debut episode of Season Two was the biggest sense of release and excitement. No one could talk to me for that hour, I was far too transfixed on the telly. After 24 months of waiting for this, do you blame me?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Decision 87 is now one of my top favourite episodes of the show. My favourite episodes of The Newsreader are the ones with the strongest focus on their historical events, and Decision 87 absolutely fit that criteria. The season truly did come in swinging, with all sorts of nerdy political goodness, faux interviews with real politicians, CGIed tally room appearances, and references to Romper Room and variety shows of Australia’s past just to make the episode even sweeter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was truly so much heart and exhilaration in Decision 87, and it was the perfect way to welcome the show back to our screens after so long of being off air. A lot happened in that 24 months in between, for the cast, crew and fans alike, but we got there, and we all got to dance our way into this much anticipated season alongside each other, and Aretha Franklin and George Michael too 😉
Happy first birthday to Season Two and Decision 87! What were your personal highlights of this episode?

Sandman Comics Re-Read
Issue 1: Sleep of the Just
I thought I’d share my contributions to our Sandman Book Club comics reread here—mostly so I can find them via tag library later 🤣
I will do the same for the rewatch of the series, which we’ll start discussing… tomorrow!
If you’d like to see what everyone else has commented or posted (some good stuff to be found!), or if you’d like to join the conversation, come on over 🙂

Alice: New Adventures In Wonderland
The two Lewis Carroll classics, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass are two of my all-time favorite novels, so I was quite surprised and intrigued when I saw this comic. I had to look up the history online to find out where it came from, and there’s not much info, other than back in 1951, some year the original classic animated Disney film was released, a publisher…

Hello! Goodbye! And welcome to-
Tumblr media
From the popular indie show “the amazing digital circus” crossing with the classics from Lewis Carroll “Alice Adventures in Wonderland”
Pomni after chasing a white clown, falls into an old computer that transports her into a digital realm of wacky nonsense and comedic irony. Meeting characters of all sorts, always finding herself in a new situation that’ll leave her second guessing if up is left and right is backwards.

Questions and boundaries
1.Can I ship any characters?: Boyo, go crazy! As long you’re safe and respectful, then set sail.
2. Are any of the characters (besides Pomni) human?: All the characters are ai, even the main cast from the series. But headcannon away cause if it keeps you guessing, then it’s alright.
3. Can I make nsfw art?: YES! Please send them to me by @ me. Please be careful and respectful and don’t go too far in the phalic side. Stay safe ;3
4. May I make fanart/fics/collabs/animations/ect?: I think you can answer that :D
5. Why is a raven like a writing desk?: I haven’t the slightest idea!

Sanguis Vita Est
The Holmwood Foundation is a Found Footage Horror-Fiction Podcast created by Fio Trethewey @fiotrethewey (Big Finish: Gallifrey War Room, 18th Wall Productions) and Georgia Cook @georgiacooked (Big Finish: The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles, Gallifrey War Room, BBC Books, The Dracula Daily Sketch Collection). It is a modern day sequel to the gothic novel Dracula.
What is the Holmwood Foundation about?

This is a story about identity and self discovery, family loyalty and devotion, all wrapped around a nightmare of a road trip with a rejuvenating severed head, incredibly sincere Victorian ghosts, and an analogue recorder. If the blue headdress worn by Pat Carroll in "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella" was worn by Matthew Porretta in "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," could Dave Chapelle be wearing Barbara Ruick's peach headdress?
Indeed he is! I haven't posted it yet, but will be eventually!

"765874 - Unification" Review
"765874 - Unification" isn't just the return of William Shatner as James Kirk, it's also the return of Robin Curtis as Saavik and Gary Lockwood as Gary Mitchell. But what does it all mean, maman?
We're talking about all of the OTOY/Roddenberry Archive shorts up to the latest, Unification, as well as the extended media that inspired the content from the shorts such as William Shatner's "Return" novels, the Marvel Star Trek: Early Voyages story that introduced the Well of Tomorrows and gave us Yeoman Colt's serial number (765874), Star Trek #400, and the novel "Vulcan Heart" as well as give our thoughts about this short and what it might mean.

The doors were blasted off their hinges, revealing a well-dressed man with a golden cane standing in the doorway. "That hex was uncalled for, Merlin."
About a week ago, Merlin had crashed a Wizard's Council meeting—well, technically intruded on their Zoom meeting via crystal ball. Alphonse had then invited Merlin to his home, along with another wizard, Sean, to discuss the modernization of the council and the trademarking of spells. The conversation spiraled out of control when Alphonse used Dave’s "Understanding the Context" beam on Merlin, just as Sean mentioned Wonderland. Merlin, without warning, suddenly became aware of Lewis Carroll’s unsavory history involving sleepovers with little girls, understandably enraging him. In retaliation, Merlin cast a hex on Alphonse, making him forget everything he had read for a week.
Now, Alphonse had tracked down Merlin, equally upset. "A whole week? You couldn’t have made it last a day, you jerk? Do you know what I thought during that time? That my ADHD was messing with my memory!" At 550...something years old, your memory already fades in and out occasionally.
