Database as a Service (DBaaS), also called the Management Database Service, is a key component of cloud computing service along with SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. The benefit to users is that while working on tasks related to the database, they can access and use a cloud database system without purchasing it. A part of Software as a Service (SaaS), the demand for Database as a Service is growing exponentially today.  

DBaaS is a fully automated on-demand service and as in all cloud computing services, users do not have to pay any flat fees for using resources but only for the quantum availed. This leads to substantial savings when compared to traditional database systems. The Database as a Service has several built-in features that enable users to avoid a large number of time-consuming activities such as in-house database configuration, management, upgradation, and system security.

All underlying info instances are controlled through an info manager element of DBaaS via API to which users have access through a management console. Provisioning or de-provisioning info instances and managing and assembling the info can be typically done by an online application.
