Greedflation, but for prisoners
Tumblr media
I'm touring my new, nationally bestselling novel The Bezzle! Catch me TOMORROW (Apr 21) in TORINO, then Marin County (Apr 27), Winnipeg (May 2), Calgary (May 3), Vancouver (May 4), and beyond!
Tumblr media
Today in "Capitalists Hate Capitalism" news: The Appeal has published the first-ever survey of national prison commissary prices, revealing just how badly the prison profiteer system gouges American's all-time, world-record-beating prison population:
https://theappeal.org/locked-in-priced-out-how-much-prison-commissary-prices/
Like every aspect of the prison contracting system, prison commissaries – the stores where prisoners are able to buy food, sundries, toiletries and other items – are dominated by private equity funds that have bought out all the smaller players. Private equity deals always involve gigantic amounts of debt (typically, the first thing PE companies do after acquiring a company is to borrow heavily against it and then pay themselves a hefty dividend).
The need to service this debt drives PE companies to cut quality, squeeze suppliers, and raise prices. That's why PE loves to buy up the kinds of businesses you must spend your money at: dialysis clinics, long-term care facilities, funeral homes, and prison services.
Prisoners, after all, are a literal captive market. Unlike capitalist ventures, which involve the risk that a customer will take their business elsewhere, prison commissary providers have the most airtight of monopolies over prisoners' shopping.
Not that prisoners have a lot of money to spend. The 13th Amendment specifically allows for the enslavement of convicted criminals, and so even though many prisoners are subject to forced labor, they aren't necessarily paid for it:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/02/captive-customers/#guillotine-watch
Six states ban paying prisoners anything. North Carolina caps prisoners' pay at one dollar per day. Nationally, prisoners earn $0.52/hour, while producing $11b/year in goods and services:
https://www.dollarsandsense.org/archives/2024/0324bowman.html
So there's a double cruelty to prison commissary price-gouging. Prisoners earn far less than any other kind of worker, and they pay vastly inflated prices for the necessities of life. There's also a triple cruelty: prisoners' families – deprived of an incarcerated breadwinner's earnings – are called upon to make up the difference for jacked up commissary prices out of their own strained finances.
So what does prison profiteering look like, in dollars and sense? Here's the first-of-its-kind database tracking the costs of food, hygiene items and religious items in 46 states:
https://theappeal.org/commissary-database/
Prisoners rely heavily on commissaries for food. Prisons serve spoiled, inedible food, and often there isn't enough to go around – prisoners who rely on the food provided by their institutions literally starve. This is worst in prisons where private equity funds have taken over the cafeteria, which is inevitable accompanied by swingeing cuts to food quality and portions:
https://theappeal.org/prison-food-virginia-fluvanna-correctional-center/
So you have one private equity fund starving prisoners, and another that's gouging them on food. Or sometimes it's the same company. Keefe Group, owned by HIG Capital, provides commissaries to prisons whose cafeterias are managed by other HIG Capital portfolio companies like Trinity Services Group. HIG also owns the prison health-care company Wellpath – so if they give you food poisoning, they get paid twice.
Wellpath delivers "grossly inadequate healthcare":
https://theappeal.org/massachusetts-prisons-wellpath-dentures-teeth/
And Trinity serves "meager portions of inedible food":
https://theappeal.org/clayton-county-jail-sheriff-election/
When prison commissaries gouge on food, no part of the inventory is spared, even the cheapest items. In Florida, a packet of ramen costs $1.06, 300% more inside the prison than it does at the Target down the street:
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24444312-fl_doc_combined_commissary_lists#document/p6/a2444049
America's prisoners aren't just hungry, they're also hot. The climate emergency is sending temperatures in America's largely un-air-conditioned prisons soaring to dangerous levels. Commissaries capitalize on this, too: an 8" fan costs $40 in Delaware's Sussex Correctional Institution. In Georgia, that fan goes for $32 (but prisoners are not paid for their labor in Georgia pens). And in scorching Texas, the commissary raised the price of water by 50% last summer:
https://www.tpr.org/criminal-justice/2023-07-20/texas-charges-prisoners-50-more-for-water-for-as-heat-wave-continues
Toiletries are also sold at prices that would make an airport gift-shop blush. Need denture adhesive? That's $12.28 in an Idaho pen, triple the retail price. 15% of America's prisoners are over 55. The Keefe Group – sister company to the "grossly inadequate" healthcare company Wellpath – operates that commissary. In Oregon, the commissary charges a 200% markup on hearing-aid batteries. Vermont charges a 500% markup on reading glasses. Imagine spending decades in prison: toothless, blind, and deaf.
Then there's the religious items. Bibles and Christmas cards are surprisingly reasonable, but a Qaran will run you $26 in Vermont, where a Bible is a mere $4.55. Kufi caps – which cost $3 or less in the free world – go for $12 in Indiana prisons. A Virginia prisoner needs to work for 8 hours to earn enough to buy a commissary Ramadan card (you can buy a Christmas card after three hours' labor).
Prison price-gougers are finally facing a comeuppance. California's new BASIC Act caps prison commissary markups at 35% (California commissaries used to charge 63-200% markups):
https://theappeal.org/price-gouging-in-california-prisons-newsom-signature/
Last year, Nevada banned any markup on hygiene items:
https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/REL/82nd2023/Bill/10425/Overview
And prison tech monopolist Securus has been driven to the brink of bankruptcy, thanks to the activism of Worth Rises and its coalition partners:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/08/money-talks/
When someone tells you who they are, believe them the first time. Prisons show us how businesses would treat us if they could get away with it.

To begin, the paper discusses the EudraVigilance system, which serves as the European Union's centralized system for managing and analyzing information on suspected adverse reactions to medicines. Operated by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), it plays a critical role in pharmacovigilance, ensuring the safety of medicines authorized or being studied in clinical trials within the European Economic Area (EEA).
EudraVigilance facilitates the electronic submission and exchange of Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs), documenting suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs). The case reports are submitted by national regulatory authorities, marketing authorization holders, healthcare professionals, patients, and clinical trial sponsors. You can think of it as somewhat like the CDC VAERS system, and it has similar problems.
The paper’s abstract is as follows:
Aims: We aimed to describe suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in infants resulting from medications transmitted through mothers' milk, as reported to the European ADR database, EudraVigilance. The research sought to understand the frequency, seriousness and nature of these ADRs to assess potential risks associated with maternal medication use during breastfeeding. Methods: Data from EudraVigilance were analysed. The study included all reported ADRs suspected to be related to medications transmitted through mothers' milk from 1 January 2013 to 1 July 2023. The data were categorized by reporting time, infant age and sex, seriousness and type of ADR, and the medications involved. Results: A total of 922 suspected ADRs were reported in breastfed infants. Serious ADRs accounted for 133 cases (14%), with 15 reported fatalities, primarily associated with methadone (n = 11) and diamorphine (n = 3). COVID-19 vaccines were linked to half of the suspected ADR reports (n = 479, 52%), while serious ADRs were mainly associated with nervous system drugs (n = 73, 43%), particularly anticonvulsants and opioids. Most cases (n = 511, 55%) occurred in infants aged between 1 month and 1 year.

A small private medical plane crashed in Philadelphia, killing all on board and injuring people on the ground.
Elon Musk forced the Head of the FAA out of office, as this individual was prosecuting Musk for accidents involving Musk's company SpaceX
Trump shut down the Aviation Security Advisory Committee last week as well as firing the Transportation Secretary, and put a freeze on all government hires when he was inaugurated, which left the DC tower with only one air traffic controller at the time of the accident instead of two.
Trump plans to put 25% tariffs on our allies Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on China (additional) as of Feb 1,
which is tanking the stock market and guaranteed to raise prices if trade wars begin
The a top Treasury official, having served in a non partisan fashion for 30 years is retiring in protest over Elon Musk seeking access to all federal monies through The Bureau of Fiscal Service
This secure system processes Social Security and Medicare benefits, federal salaries, payments to government contractors, grants, and tax refunds, among it's purview. Only a small number of career officials control Treasury’s payment systems. Experts do not know why Musk would need this level of access.
ELON MUSK LOCKS FEDERAL EMPLOYEES OUT OF THEIR ACCOUNTS
Workers at the Office of Personnel Management, have had their access to department data revoked. They lost access to the Enterprise Human Resources Integration database, which includes the dates of birth, Social Security numbers, appraisals, home addresses, pay grades, and length of service of government workers.
“We have no visibility into what they are doing with the computer and data systems, There is no oversight. It creates real cybersecurity and hacking implications.”
Trump changed the email system so that every single federal worker could be contacted with one email. all 13,000 employees of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, were flooded with explicit spam emails on Thursday.
The federal gov system email no longer has a basic form of security. Trump admin is now being sued for the lack of privacy for all federal employees

Trump fired the Head of the Consumer Protection Agency
which among it's numerous investigations held Wall Street accountable for cheating hard-working families and prevented the de-banking of Americans across the country
FEDERAL EMPLOYEES ARE NOT TAKING TRUMP'S FALSE 'BUYOUT' which has led to a begging email from Trump, the President has no authority and no budget to pay employees for not working.
Trump is telling federal employees to remove any pronouns from their email signatures
Governor J.B. Pritzker of Illinois is blocking any January 6 rioters pardoned by Donald Trump from working for the state, other states may follow suit.

Unlocking the Power of Data Warehousing: A Key to Smarter Decision-Making
In today's data-driven world, businesses need to make smarter, faster, and more informed decisions. But how can companies achieve this? One powerful tool that plays a crucial role in managing vast amounts of data is data warehousing. In this blog, we’ll explore what data warehousing is, its benefits, and how it can help organizations make better business decisions.
What is Data Warehousing?
At its core, data warehousing refers to the process of collecting, storing, and managing large volumes of data from different sources in a central repository. The data warehouse serves as a consolidated platform where all organizational data—whether from internal systems, third-party applications, or external sources—can be stored, processed, and analyzed.
A data warehouse is designed to support query and analysis operations, making it easier to generate business intelligence (BI) reports, perform complex data analysis, and derive insights for better decision-making. Data warehouses are typically used for historical data analysis, as they store data from multiple time periods to identify trends, patterns, and changes over time.
Key Components of a Data Warehouse
To understand the full functionality of a data warehouse, it's helpful to know its primary components:
Data Sources: These are the various systems and platforms where data is generated, such as transactional databases, CRM systems, or external data feeds.
ETL (Extract, Transform, Load): This is the process by which data is extracted from different sources, transformed into a consistent format, and loaded into the warehouse.
Data Warehouse Storage: The central repository where cleaned, structured data is stored. This can be in the form of a relational database or a cloud-based storage system, depending on the organization’s needs.
OLAP (Online Analytical Processing): This allows for complex querying and analysis, enabling users to create multidimensional data models, perform ad-hoc queries, and generate reports.
BI Tools and Dashboards: These tools provide the interfaces that enable users to interact with the data warehouse, such as through reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
Benefits of Data Warehousing
Improved Decision-Making: With data stored in a single, organized location, businesses can make decisions based on accurate, up-to-date, and complete information. Real-time analytics and reporting capabilities ensure that business leaders can take swift action.
Consolidation of Data: Instead of sifting through multiple databases or systems, employees can access all relevant data from one location. This eliminates redundancy and reduces the complexity of managing data from various departments or sources.
Historical Analysis: Data warehouses typically store historical data, making it possible to analyze long-term trends and patterns. This helps businesses understand customer behavior, market fluctuations, and performance over time.
Better Reporting: By using BI tools integrated with the data warehouse, businesses can generate accurate reports on key metrics. This is crucial for monitoring performance, tracking KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), and improving strategic planning.
Scalability: As businesses grow, so does the volume of data they collect. Data warehouses are designed to scale easily, handling increasing data loads without compromising performance.
Enhanced Data Quality: Through the ETL process, data is cleaned, transformed, and standardized. This means the data stored in the warehouse is of high quality—consistent, accurate, and free of errors.
Types of Data Warehouses
There are different types of data warehouses, depending on how they are set up and utilized:
Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW): An EDW is a central data repository for an entire organization, allowing access to data from all departments or business units.
Operational Data Store (ODS): This is a type of data warehouse that is used for storing real-time transactional data for short-term reporting. An ODS typically holds data that is updated frequently.
Data Mart: A data mart is a subset of a data warehouse focused on a specific department, business unit, or subject. For example, a marketing data mart might contain data relevant to marketing operations.
Cloud Data Warehouse: With the rise of cloud computing, cloud-based data warehouses like Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, and Snowflake have become increasingly popular. These platforms allow businesses to scale their data infrastructure without investing in physical hardware.
How Data Warehousing Drives Business Intelligence
The purpose of a data warehouse is not just to store data, but to enable businesses to extract valuable insights. By organizing and analyzing data, businesses can uncover trends, customer preferences, and operational inefficiencies. Some of the ways in which data warehousing supports business intelligence include:
Customer Segmentation: Companies can analyze data to segment customers based on behavior, demographics, or purchasing patterns, leading to better-targeted marketing efforts.
Predictive Analytics: By analyzing historical data, businesses can forecast trends and predict future outcomes, such as sales, inventory needs, and staffing levels.
Improved Operational Efficiency: With data-driven insights, businesses can streamline processes, optimize supply chains, and reduce costs. For example, identifying inventory shortages or surplus can help optimize stock levels.
Challenges in Data Warehousing
While the benefits of data warehousing are clear, there are some challenges to consider:
Complexity of Implementation: Setting up a data warehouse can be a complex and time-consuming process, requiring expertise in database management, ETL processes, and BI tools.
Data Integration: Integrating data from various sources with differing formats can be challenging, especially when dealing with legacy systems or unstructured data.
Cost: Building and maintaining a data warehouse can be expensive, particularly when managing large volumes of data. However, the investment is often worth it in terms of the business value generated.
Security: With the consolidation of sensitive data in one place, data security becomes critical. Organizations need robust security measures to prevent unauthorized access and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
The Future of Data Warehousing
The world of data warehousing is constantly evolving. With advancements in cloud technology, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, businesses are now able to handle larger datasets, perform more sophisticated analyses, and automate key processes.
As companies increasingly embrace the concept of a "data-driven culture," the need for powerful data warehousing solutions will continue to grow. The integration of AI-driven analytics, real-time data processing, and more intuitive BI tools will only further enhance the value of data warehouses in the years to come.
Conclusion
In today’s fast-paced, data-centric world, having access to accurate, high-quality data is crucial for making informed business decisions. A robust data warehousing solution enables businesses to consolidate, analyze, and extract valuable insights from their data, driving smarter decision-making across all departments. While building a data warehouse comes with challenges, the benefits—improved efficiency, better decision-making, and enhanced business intelligence—make it an essential tool for modern organizations.

Title: Data Warehousing: The Backbone of Data-Driven Decision Making
In today’s fast-paced business environment, the ability to make data-driven decisions quickly is paramount. However, to leverage data effectively, companies need more than just raw data. They need a centralized, structured system that allows them to store, manage, and analyze data seamlessly. This is where data warehousing comes into play.
Data warehousing has become the cornerstone of modern business intelligence (BI) systems, enabling organizations to unlock valuable insights from vast amounts of data. In this blog, we’ll explore what data warehousing is, why it’s important, and how it drives smarter decision-making.
What is Data Warehousing?
At its core, data warehousing refers to the process of collecting and storing data from various sources into a centralized system where it can be easily accessed and analyzed. Unlike traditional databases, which are optimized for transactional operations (i.e., data entry, updating), data warehouses are designed specifically for complex queries, reporting, and data analysis.
A data warehouse consolidates data from various sources—such as customer information systems, financial systems, and even external data feeds—into a single repository. The data is then structured and organized in a way that supports business intelligence (BI) tools, enabling organizations to generate reports, create dashboards, and gain actionable insights.
Key Components of a Data Warehouse
Data Sources: These are the different systems or applications that generate data. Examples include CRM systems, ERP systems, external APIs, and transactional databases.
ETL (Extract, Transform, Load): This is the process by which data is pulled from different sources (Extract), cleaned and converted into a usable format (Transform), and finally loaded into the data warehouse (Load).
Data Warehouse Storage: The actual repository where structured and organized data is stored. This could be in traditional relational databases or modern cloud-based storage platforms.
OLAP (Online Analytical Processing): OLAP tools enable users to run complex analytical queries on the data warehouse, creating reports, performing multidimensional analysis, and identifying trends.
Business Intelligence Tools: These tools are used to interact with the data warehouse, generate reports, visualize data, and help businesses make data-driven decisions.
Benefits of Data Warehousing
Improved Decision Making: By consolidating data into a single repository, decision-makers can access accurate, up-to-date information whenever they need it. This leads to more informed, faster decisions based on reliable data.
Data Consolidation: Instead of pulling data from multiple systems and trying to make sense of it, a data warehouse consolidates data from various sources into one place, eliminating the complexity of handling scattered information.
Historical Analysis: Data warehouses are typically designed to store large amounts of historical data. This allows businesses to analyze trends over time, providing valuable insights into long-term performance and market changes.
Increased Efficiency: With a data warehouse in place, organizations can automate their reporting and analytics processes. This means less time spent manually gathering data and more time focusing on analyzing it for actionable insights.
Better Reporting and Insights: By using data from a single, trusted source, businesses can produce consistent, accurate reports that reflect the true state of affairs. BI tools can transform raw data into meaningful visualizations, making it easier to understand complex trends.
Types of Data Warehouses
Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW): This is a centralized data warehouse that consolidates data across the entire organization. It’s used for comprehensive, organization-wide analysis and reporting.
Data Mart: A data mart is a subset of a data warehouse that focuses on specific business functions or departments. For example, a marketing data mart might contain only marketing-related data, making it easier for the marketing team to access relevant insights.
Operational Data Store (ODS): An ODS is a database that stores real-time data and is designed to support day-to-day operations. While a data warehouse is optimized for historical analysis, an ODS is used for operational reporting.
Cloud Data Warehouse: With the rise of cloud computing, cloud-based data warehouses like Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, and Snowflake have become popular. These solutions offer scalable, cost-effective, and flexible alternatives to traditional on-premises data warehouses.
How Data Warehousing Supports Business Intelligence
A data warehouse acts as the foundation for business intelligence (BI) systems. BI tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, and QlikView, connect directly to the data warehouse, enabling users to query the data and generate insightful reports and visualizations.
For example, an e-commerce company can use its data warehouse to analyze customer behavior, sales trends, and inventory performance. The insights gathered from this analysis can inform marketing campaigns, pricing strategies, and inventory management decisions.
Here are some ways data warehousing drives BI and decision-making:
Customer Insights: By analyzing customer purchase patterns, organizations can better segment their audience and personalize marketing efforts.
Trend Analysis: Historical data allows companies to identify emerging trends, such as seasonal changes in demand or shifts in customer preferences.
Predictive Analytics: By leveraging machine learning models and historical data stored in the data warehouse, companies can forecast future trends, such as sales performance, product demand, and market behavior.
Operational Efficiency: A data warehouse can help identify inefficiencies in business operations, such as bottlenecks in supply chains or underperforming products.

So I made an app for PROTO. Written in Kotlin and runs on Android.
Next, I want to upgrade it with a controller mode. It should work so so I simply plug a wired xbox controller into my phone with a USB OTG adaptor… and bam, the phone does all the complex wireless communication and is a battery. Meaning that besides the controller, you only need the app and… any phone. Which anyone is rather likely to have Done.
Now THAT is convenient!
( Warning, the rest of the post turned into... a few rants. ) Why Android? Well I dislike Android less than IOS
So it is it better to be crawling in front of the alter of "We are making the apocalypse happen" Google than "5 Chinese child workers died while you read this" Apple?
Not much…
I really should which over to a better open source Linux distribution… But I do not have the willpower to research which one... So on Android I stay.
Kotlin is meant to be "Java, but better/more modern/More functional programming style" (Everyone realized a few years back that the 100% Object oriented programming paradigme is stupid as hell. And we already knew that about the functional programming paradigme. The best is a mix of everything, each used when it is the best option.) And for the most part, it succeeds. Java/Kotlin compiles its code down to "bytecode", which is essentially assembler but for the Java virtual machine. The virtual machine then runs the program. Like how javascript have the browser run it instead of compiling it to the specific machine your want it to run on… It makes them easy to port…
Except in the case of Kotlin on Android... there is not a snowflakes chance in hell that you can take your entire codebase and just run it on another linux distribution, Windows or IOS…
So... you do it for the performance right? The upside of compiling directly to the machine is that it does not waste power on middle management layers… This is why C and C++ are so fast!
Except… Android is… Clunky… It relies on design ideas that require EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM AND APP ON YOUR PHONE to behave nicely (Lots of "This system only works if every single app uses it sparingly and do not screw each-other over" paradigms .). And many distributions from Motorola like mine for example comes with software YOUR ARE NOT ALLOWED TO UNINSTALL... meaning that software on your phone is ALWAYS behaving badly. Because not a single person actually owns an Android phone. You own a brick of electronics that is worthless without its OS, and google does not sell that to you or even gift it to you. You are renting it for free, forever. Same with Motorola which added a few extra modifications onto Googles Android and then gave it to me.
That way, google does not have to give any rights to its costumers. So I cannot completely control what my phone does. Because it is not my phone. It is Googles phone.
That I am allowed to use. By the good graces of our corporate god emperors
"Moose stares blankly into space trying to stop being permanently angry at hoe everyone is choosing to run the world"
… Ok that turned dark… Anywho. TLDR There is a better option for 95% of apps (Which is "A GUI that interfaces with a database") "Just write a single HTML document with internal CSS and Javascript" Usually simpler, MUCH easier and smaller… And now your app works on any computer with a browser. Meaning all of them…
I made a GUI for my parents recently that works exactly like that. Soo this post:
It was frankly a mistake of me to learn Kotlin… Even more so since It is a… awful language… Clearly good ideas then ruined by marketing department people yelling "SUPPORT EVERYTHING! AND USE ALL THE BUZZWORD TECHNOLOGY! Like… If your language FORCES you to use exceptions for normal runtime behavior "Stares at CancellationException"... dear god that is horrible...
Made EVEN WORSE by being a really complicated way to re-invent the GOTO expression… You know... The thing every programmer is taught will eat your feet if you ever think about using it because it is SO dangerous, and SO bad form to use it? Yeah. It is that, hidden is a COMPLEATLY WRONG WAY to use exceptions…
goodie… I swear to Christ, every page or two of my Kotlin notes have me ranting how I learned how something works, and that it is terrible... Blaaa. But anyway now that I know it, I try to keep it fresh in my mind and use it from time to time. Might as well. It IS possible to run certain things more effective than a web page, and you can work much more directly with the file system. It is... hard-ish to get a webpage to "load" a file automatically... But believe me, it is good that this is the case.
Anywho. How does the app work and what is the next version going to do?
PROTO is meant to be a platform I test OTHER systems on, so he is optimized for simplicity. So how you control him is sending a HTTP 1.1 message of type Text/Plain… (This is a VERY fancy sounding way of saying "A string" in network speak). The string is 6 comma separated numbers. Linear movement XYZ and angular movement XYZ.
The app is simply 5 buttons that each sends a HTTP PUT request with fixed values. Specifically 0.5/-0.5 meter/second linear (Drive back or forward) 0.2/-0.2 radians/second angular (Turn right or turn left) Or all 0 for stop
(Yes, I just formatted normal text as code to make it more readable... I think I might be more infected by programming so much than I thought...)
Aaaaaanywho. That must be enough ranting. Time to make the app

National Healthcare
Today, Republican representatives in the Senate are meeting to discuss and develop the upper chamber’s version of a plan for the future healthcare of our people that might be accepted by a majority of Congress and finally approved by our President. Let there be no doubt in your mind about one thing. There will be no knowledge presented that is new. Everything said will have been said beforeevery argument argued time and time again. We know the history of healthcare over and over again, here and around the world. Political ideology, greed, avarice, corruption, and personal gain notwithstanding, the only issue—the only issue—at hand should be the overall good and well-being of our country and our people. Again, I submit to you, that everything to be known relative to this subject, is known (or available to all who care to know) as well as the results of whichever direction to be determined. The only real question remaining is whether or not our elected representatives in Congress will truly represent the best interests of our people and our country, politics, and all else notwithstanding.
We can put all the arguing and bickering, all the legal confrontations and cases, and all the massive spending associated with such inefficiencies aside as well as to take a giant step forward toward the reduction of our horrendous national deficit and, eventually, our debt by adopting a single-payer universal healthcare system for all. Let’s get this over with. Let’s give relief to our people from their fear. Let’s give relief to businesses from the burdens of healthcare so that they may focus on the management of their businesses.
To those who argue the merits of free markets, I say to you as I have said before: The only free markets that exist in these days and times are to be found on a blackboard in a classroom. Today, they are called chalkboards, but I digress. The closest we have ever come to free markets was in the eighteen hundreds; and, most certainly, healthcare is not adaptable to such. Are you able to analyze and evaluate drug prices? Are you able to compare prices when you choose a doctor? How much choice do you have in choosing a hospital or evaluating their charges to you or your insurance company? If you are honest with yourself, you know, for the most part, you are at their mercy—there is no free market in healthcare. It’s a myth.
The only question remaining, a question I am confident our representatives in Congress wish to avoid is how to finance such a system. You know as well as I that nothing is free—no argument there. I have discussed this before in my past writing, but I think it appropriate to address this matter again. Healthcare is such a significant portion of our national budget, much if not most of which significantly contributes to our national deficit and, therefore, debt that I believe it is imperative that the financing should be self-funding annually and excluded from the national budget. By this, I mean that income to the fund in a given year must be sufficient to pay the expenses of that year—no deficit. The healthcare fund should be a stand-alone fund in the same manner as our Social Security. It is, also, imperative to say that its accounting system be auditable with an integrated database.
I recommend that a single tax, earmarked for the purpose, should be levied on “taxable wages” on a progressive basis determined by ability to pay. To this end, I think it fair that healthcare benefits currently paid by employers be incorporated into employee gross income to facilitate employee ability to pay. I also suggest an increase in minimum wage rates to facilitate the incorporation of the plan for small business employees.
Some believe our nation cannot afford such safety nets as Social Security, Universal Healthcare, public education, unemployment insurance, etc. I don’t believe that. Given that we the people of the United States of America take back our country from the Shadow Government of the Corporatocracy and Power Elite now reigning over us, retain our democracy and sovereignty with equal opportunity for all, a fair and more equal distribution of income and wealth, and a system of progressive income taxation levied according to one’s ability to pay, I believe our annual Gross Domestic Product will enable us to prosper once again as we did in the fifties, sixties, and seventies, the most prosperous period in the history of civilization. Also, to this end, it is imperative that we treat our neighbors throughout the world fairly, and seek peace rather than war and dominance.   Quoting Noam Chomsky, “Violence is a powerful instrument of control, as history demonstrates. But the dilemmas of dominance are not slight” (Ref: Interventions, pg.48, by Noam Chomsky). To this end, you only have to look at our present status in the world and our National Debt. So, when entering the marketplace of the cryptocurrencies it would be the most possible work of something to pay off at a rapid pace: the Binance Clone Script proves so.
How to Get Started with BlockchainX’s Binance Clone Script
It is quite a straightforward process to begin working with a BlockchainX Binance Clone Script-this involves the first step of getting in touch with the company for an initial consulting period to understand more about what you require, need, or customize for the site, and what your goals are. When BlockchainX has an understanding of your needs, they offer a detailed list of what a proposal would entail before they can start the work; afterward, they will estimate the costs needed to do the project. Once both sides accept both the presentations and all features and timelines are agreed with, BlockchainX starts working on the development process of building a Binance Clone Script tailored to the brand, user interface, and other features.
After the entire platform is created, it passes through severe testing to ensure that everything functions excellently. Deployment follows the thorough test. BlockchainX customizes your user interface and more extensions, after deployment. BlockchainX also commits to supporting and sustaining your exchange so that it runs successfully and securely.
Conclusion:
At the end, your confusion may as well be cut short. Yes, the Binance Clone Script will be a resilient solution to spark up the exchange platforms synthesizing user-generated cryptocurrency dreams in the blockchain, even without bankroll when it comes to developing the app. Turning with BlockchainX expertise, you can make an adjustment and scale a powerful platform stocked with the likes of Binance that produced Blockchains, while still containing some specific set-ups for your masterpiece. More amazing features are exclusive to the clone script, moreover, such as support for multiple currencies, high-end security, real-time data, and a smooth user interface that completes the trading process for your users without any glitch.
This solution gives easy access to ready-made solutions. It could have quality Depending on the time you conveniently let BlockchainX’s be and use both exchanges or any variation of the two permutations. After all, who decides to couple up with a one-experienced Crypto Exchange developer who is struggling to offer anything new.

week 1 | re-(centering, settling, organizing)
I embrace the new year with a cup of candy cane tea and a bare bullet journal whose only filled page resembles a coloring book. “2025” it announces, shaped from traced out (and colored in) vines that twist over one another to make the edges of the numbers. I have my “Quests” (new year’s resolutions) on one side, below a red (colored in) banner, and “Achievements” (unexpected, but defining experiences and moments in the new year) to the other, but of course, below its banner is empty space.
The hardest thing about new year’s resolutions is accepting that the goals you wrote— potentially scoured Pinterest for, if you’re anything like me, who deemed their ten-goal list (already difficult) too skimpy on paper— require you to start today. Not in a week or a few days.
2025 is already a week old, and I have yet to put on my retainers (one of the many habits I swore to start this year); I have been using my creative pursuits as excuses to put off the gritty work of starting my term readings early (to loosen the burden of the start of term) or starting a research database for my lab work (I was supposed to do this…weeks ago); and my tasks for the “ambitious, but not unattainable” days I scheduled preceding the end of break continue to be postponed, dragged onto future days, with previously-schedule tasks rescaled and reordered to compensate for my unproductiveness.
That isn’t to say I have been wasting this break. These past few days I have been easing myself back into a working mindset, doing the tedious, yet needed, tasks to set myself up for actually doing my larger goals: downloading and sorting readings for the term (if available), finding research programs to apply for, labs I would want to reach out to for those research programs, finally responding to neglected emails, and carrying out overdue action items from those message threads. I redid my notion for the year, scrapping the overcomplicated and overwhelming parts of my organization system that I just…didn’t use.
A small aside: I see so many YouTube videos and Instagram reels marketing Notion as a game changing software for productivity, and I would spend hours scouring free templates and downloading them, watching videos on how to format pages or organize my knowledge, and eventually attempting to build my own aesthetic system. Only to almost never use it. I had the same problem with the Hobinichi planner (which I spent a ridiculous amount of money shipping overseas)! Systems require upkeep and consistency, and while I am absolutely one of those types of people that need to write things down to remember them and need organization systems to structure their time and keep their goals in check, I think I fell into the trap of having too many systems in place. I would “touch and go,” skipping between my paper planner, to creating a daily page in notion, that I would inevitably forget to check any of my tasks off from, to sometimes even ripping a page out of my notebooks to create a makeshift to-do list if I felt like it.
Don't get me wrong, Notion is an incredible program to visually organize information and create a workflow! I just wanted to put my entire life into Notion, and the fact of the matter is that...*my* system was not working for me. It didn't make sense for me to split up my life into 20 different pages that I honestly forgot to check and keep up with. I have bursts of motivation, much like the dawn of a new year, to create all these new ways to see and pick apart my life on these programs, but I quickly lose stamina to keep up with all of them.
So, one of my primary goals for 2025 is to simplify and redesign my organization systems (including Notion) to cater to my lifestyle and priorities.
Being in uni with two jobs, being on board for a few student organizations, and studying biomedical engineering, I have found the most success in managing my day primarily with Google Calendar. I even downloaded the “Duration for Google Tasks” extension, so that I can assign tasks for specific time blocks and visually factor in the time estimated for completion into my plans around and beyond class and work schedules. This is how I best visualize my days and prioritize work for the week.
So, I massively simplified my Notion workplace to supplement what my Google ecosystem cannot adequately take care of for me. I almost use it as a control panel/dashboard, with dropdown yearly and quarterly goals; daily, weekly, and monthly habits; a dashboard to keep track of all my applications for internship and research opportunities; and for now, an “everything page” to organize and keep track of miscellaneous notes that I would like to find better homes for later. [A brief snapshot of my Notion page, affectionately also called "ary's garden" is below]
Tumblr media
It’s not perfect, but it’s a start!
And as I progress throughout this "quarter" (I set the arbitrary end date of Q1 to Mar 29, 2025), I will keep and adapt what works and discard what doesn't. I just simply no longer have time to waste on systems that do not work for me.
And my bullet journal…will be more of a visual archive than a day-to-day task manager. I might write down some notes or visually plan out projects on its pages (instead of ripped out notebook pages I neatly fold and place into the depths of my backpack, never to be seen again), but it is not a part of my organizational system. It's more an art project than anything, and I am setting it up as such. Vision boards, photos, journal entries, ideas...we will see what I shall fill up this beautiful, blank journal with later, but this year I stop with the monthly and weekly spreads that beg for me to spill my life into its neatly traced boxes and under new list headings. This year, I accept the bujo for what it is: a hobby, that sometimes, I won't have time for.
I will update you all on how these changes impact my day-to-day operations and longer term achievements (or don’t). As I said before, we'll figure it out together!
Tumblr media
[Above is a Salem the Cat gif from one of my favorite television shows, Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996-2003), where he is sporting scholarly glasses sitting atop a book. He looks fabulous and unbothered, as always. Truly the vibe I'm trying to embody this new year]
Nevertheless, I didn’t start of 2025 on magically better footing simply because the calendar marked an ending and beginning or because my motivation shot up at the creation of resolutions. I spent much of this break resting and healing, and frankly, and I spent the first half week of 2025 doing the same. But, as the start of school again looms for the next few days, I actually feel restored and ready to take on the new year with all it promises...and requires of me.
I have applications to finish, readings to absorb, and a life to live. Guess I have to start today :)
Until next week, mis amores,
Ary
