Remember how I said back here that I'm in the middle of a project to edit down Our Song episodes, fix the subtitles, and add annotations?

Well, I'm starting to post them! I've got Ep 1 up now and Ep 2 I need to adjust a few translations but then it's ready. Ep 3 and 4 I've got rough drafts of. The rest of the season (12 episodes in total) will take a while, since I haven't started editing them yet.

I also have help with translation now!! @artknifeandglue offered translation from Chinese in @fandomtrumpshate and will be doing song translations for me - since I'm mostly done with the first few episodes he'll just be doing some spot-checking of things I wasn't sure on, but beyond that he'll be doing full translations of many of the songs!

I'm hosting the videos on GDrive, because they'd probably get taken down from YouTube for copyright violation, and I also have copies of the annotations in docs in the same drive.

But! I am also posting the annotations - with links to the videos - on AO3!

So if you're actually interested, you can subscribe so you're notified when I post a new episode!

Song Of The Sky Walkers

I have read 20 chapters to see what it is about. Unlike Song of the Long March, which is political and full of political intrigues. This story is a Chinese fantasy story with cultivators trying to get golden core and stuff like this.

It is slow-burn and has a slow start. It literally starts from the beginning which is the birth of the main characters, 20 chapters in and they are not even teenagers yet.

As for the main twins, the girls is ok. The boy however is a boring perfection. He is a kid, but acts as if he were 40 years old.

Ngày này 5 năm trước là trung thu á. Đọc chương truyện này của Tử Bất Ngữ thấy hay thật. May hồi xưa đã mua Tử Bất Ngữ, chứ giờ hình như không có bản scan luôn.

Nếu nhớ không nhầm thì quán Mơ Coffee (104 B4 Ngõ 1 Nghĩa Tân, Hà Nội) có 3 tập Tử Bất Ngữ ở giá sách. Nhưng mà từ lâu lâu rồi chưa quay lại, không biết quán còn để truyện ở đó không. Các bạn muốn đọc mà chưa tìm được chỗ đọc có thể ghé qua xem thử. Giá sách còn có Liar Game, Bad Luck với mấy bộ manga nữa...

Không phải quen biết hay quảng cáo gì hộ quán đâu mà thấy quán có Tử Bất Ngữ ở giá sách là khác biệt rồi. Chứ mấy quán khác mua mấy truyện cũ rích tả tơi theo cân, bày kiểu trang trí chứ không phải để đọc ý.

Come Drink With Me (1966)

My rating: 7/10

I was pretty close to giving up on wuxia in general and the Shaw Brothers in particular, because they were Not Picky with the movies they greenlit, but this one is actually pretty good? There's a plot and characters and everything! It's a fun time! Who would have thought?

Also, given that everybody uses male pronouns with Golden Swallow in the first part of the movie and then switches to female without batting an eye, I am forced to conclude that a) they are a genderfluid icon and b) everybody in this version of ancient China is extremely cool with that, including the bandits. Diversity win.
